raise people's awareness of the living conditions of animals that are raised for food.He decided to pay $5,000 out of his own savings to two people who were willing to live like chickens for a week.To Rob's surprise, quite a few people answered his advertisement. He had interviewed and selected Eric,a 24﹣year﹣old restaurant worker, and Para,a 24﹣year﹣old chemist. The plan was for them to spend seven days together in a chicken cage that was six feet long and three feet wide.A camera would record their experiences, which would take place in an art museum. The week was long and difficult. They slept on a hard wooden floor. They couldn't stand up without hanging their heads. They ate vegetables and drank water from a garden hosepipe.Their only privacy was a toilet surrounded by a curtain. There were no was over, and Para and Eric appeared from their cage. They had survived the week, and they each had a $2,500 check in their hands. When RobThompson opened the cage,Eric came out, changed into clean clothes, and ate a chocolate bar right away."It's great to be able to stand up,"he said.Para just changed her clothes and left. After a week of visitors and reporters watching her,she didn't want to they have maintained a Body Mass Index (BMI)of at least 18.5for three months before a fashion show. That means a woman who is 68inches tall can weigh no less than 119pounds."This law is another step in the war against eating disorders,"said physician Adatto."Underweight models,"he explained,"can no longer serve as role models for innocent young people who copy their false image of being skinny."But some critics in this country say it is misguided, focusing on weight instead of health. They also say the Israeli ban is bound to fail because of the strong power of the fashion industry."I think it's an approach that isn't going to work."said eating disorder expert Susan Ice,who worked with an organization which creates a healthy working environment for models. But Adatto told the reporter that he began to concern the issue after meeting an ambitious model who looked like she needed to be hospitalized. He said."I realized that only legislation(立法)can change the situation. There was no time to waste;so many girls were dieting to death."However, the efforts to regulate models'weight in Spain and Italy have not resulted in significant changes in part because of difficulties in determining reliable methods of measuring weight and health.Still, folks including Ice say there's no denying that images from Hollywood and the fashion industry can be difficult for young women to deal with."Certainly I don't believe the modeling industry has caused the rise in eating disorders, but it makes it harder,"she says."It's a difficult recovery environment, worshiping thinness as the beauty ideal."64.One benefit the new Israeli law may bring is.A.to change the working conditions of modelsB.to lower the chance of skinny models'deathC.to provide guidance for women worshiping thinnessD.to prevent models from suffering from eating disorders65.In the opinion of the critics, the law won't succeed because.A.it misleads young women to form a bad eating habit.B.it doesn't provide a proper approach that can work well.C.it doesn't create a healthy working environment for models.D.the fashion industry is much too influential.66.What caused Adatto to think that a law was needed to change the situation?A.Meeting an ambitious but too skinny model.B.Establishing his fashion model agent.C.Being interviewed by a reporter.D.Seeing a model die from eating disorders.67.(8分)In face of global warming, much effort has been focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through a variety of strategies. But while much of the research and innovation has concentrated on finding less﹣polluting energy alternatives,it may be decades before clean technologies like wind and solar meet a significant portion of our energy needs. In the meantime, the amount of CO2in the air is rapidly approaching the limits proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)."As long as we're consuming fossil fuels,we're putting out CO2,"says Klaus Lackner,a geophysicist at Columbia University,"We cannot let the CO2 in the atmosphere rise indefinitely."That sense of urgency has increased interest in capturing and storing CO2,which the IPCC says could provide the more than 50% reduction in emissions needed to reduce global warming."We see the potential for capture and storage to play an integral (基本的)role in reducing emissions,"says Kim Corley,Shell's senior advisor of CO2 and environmental affairs. That forward thinking strategy is gaining support. The U.S.Department of Energy recently proposed putting 1billionintoanew2.4billion coal ﹣burning energy plant. The plant's carbon﹣capture technologies would serve as a pilot project for other new coal﹣burning plants. But what do you do with the gas once you've captured it?One option is to put it to new uses.Dakota Gasification of North Dakota captures CO2 at a plant that converts (转换)coal into synthetic(合成的)natural gas.It then ships the gas 200miles by pipeline to Canada, where it is pumped underground in oil recovery operations. In the Netherlands,Shell delivers CO2 to farmers who pipe it into their greenhouses, increasing their production of fruits and vegetables. However, scientists say that the scale of CO2 emissions will require vast amounts of long﹣term storage. Some propose storing the CO2 in coal mines or liquid storage in the ocean,Shell favors storing CO2 in deep geological structures such as saline (盐的)formations and exhausted oil and gas fields that exist throughout the world.67.What does the author intend to tell readers?A.How to find more oil and natural gases.B.How to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.C.How to deal with the greenhouse gas creatively.D.How to make good use of solar and wind energy.68.According to the passage, the following statements are true EXCEPT that.A.the idea of capturing and storing CO2 is supported by the American government B.it is widely accepted that the CO2 captured should be stored in deep geological structuresC.capturing and storing CO2 is intended to handle the problem with global warming D.long﹣term storage of CO2 is no easy job because of the scale of CO2emissions 69.By using CO2,Dutch farmers have been able to.A.increase their production of fruits and vegetables B.convert coal into synthetic natural gasC.pump it underground in oil recovery operations D.make exhausted oil and gas fields productive70.How would you understand the underlined part in the third paragraph?A.It means a project training new pilots who will serve the new strategy.B.It refers to the coal﹣burning energy plant that U.S government sponsors.C.It implies the carbon﹣capture technologies will be popular once successful.D.It shows the new idea of reduction of CO2emissions needs a large sum of investment.第四部分:任务型阅读(满分10分)请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词.注意:请将答案写在答题卡上相应题号的横线上.每个空格只填一个单词.71.(10分)Learning is a daily adventure that one carries throughout life, and we should keep learning something new every day.To become a lifelong learner, first of all you should learn where your talents and interests lie.You can try many different things so that you'll find you're not only good at a few things.Be careful of past memories that tell you to stay away from certain things. This can soon prevent you seizing chances to try many new things.Anyway,be careful not to let past experiences like these cut off opportunities for you now.To make learning fun,you need to see learning as an exploration, not a chore (杂事).Don't just force yourself to learn things because they're important or necessary.Instead, learn things you need to learn and you love to learn.Follow your heart,as well as your sense of duty.Even when you're learning the things you have to,seek to go beyond what you're being asked to learn.Look at the history, case studies, different applications, etc.,to make your learning experience much more colorful.Doing reading as much as you can is also helpful. So make friends with local new and used book sellers.Through reading you'll never stop learning.Wise people read lots of books all the time;it's as simple as that. And reading will help you know the discoveries and mistakes of others so that you don't have to learn things the hard way.So remember that books, newspapers, and magazines are all reading, and as are websites, reviews and other online sources of information.Asking the right questions can be more important than having the answers. So be sure to listen closely and understand the response.Sometimes a response is difficult to understand.Feel free to take notes, ask more questions and break down the response into smaller components (成分)to make sense of it.You can keep a diary or notebook to record what you learn and what questions you still have.Questions can teach as much as,or more than, answers. To be a lifelong learner, often evaluate (评估)and apply what you learn.Does it make sense? Is it true?Try to answer these questions and make good evaluation about what you're learning. In addition, applying what you learn is the best way to test it and it'll help you learn it more completely and keep it longer. How to become a lifelong learner.ParagraphoutlinesSupporting detailsKnow what you are good at and(71)By trying many different things, you can be aware of your possible (72)to do many things well. You should overcome your past ASunstroke (中暑) is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn’t given immediately.Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke, is a result of the body temperature rising above safe limits. This causes the body’s necessary functions to stop working. It’s usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke, as long as proper action is taken.I n that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person’s body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke.Call for helpCall to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted(昏倒). Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you’ re in a public place. If there’s no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance. Ask everyone to bring you as much water as pos sible, if there isn’t much nearby.Get the person to a cooler areaIf there’s a building nearby, aim for that. Anywhere with plenty of air conditionings and water is perfect. If a building isn’t available, bring the person to a well shaded area.Get the water flowingIf the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there’s a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.If your water supply is limited, you have to save it. Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the pe rson’s body. Focus on the face, neck, and chest.Fan the personGetting moving air over the person cools him or her down. Use anything, a towel or sheet, a shirt your hands,or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps, as they can combine to fan the entire body.1. When does a person get sunstroke?A. When the body temperature goes up beyond what one can bear.B. 山西省大同市第一中学2015—2016学年度上学期期末考试高二英语试题第Ⅰ卷客观卷(共60分)第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节:(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AIt was 7:00 am in Kyoto, Japan, and the taxi company had just called a second time to say they couldn’t find my house. Once again I spelt out directions even a blind person could follow. I glanced impatiently at my watch, and waited. Only two hours remained until my flight left—and it was an hour and a half trip to the airport.Outside, heavy rains were pouring down. My house was so far north in the city that buses pass only here times a day.The telephone rang again. “Terribly sorry,” began the man at the taxi company. Then I realized that the taxi company, flooded with calls, could only offer in-city runs. I had heard this happens when the weather gets bad. I shouted into the phone that I had a plane to catch and I would meet the taxi outside my house.Standing in the wind-driven rain, I looked up and down the road. No taxi. A car went by, the driver and passenger staring at the crazy foreigner in the downpour. Finally a white car appeared and pulled to a stop. A young man threw open the door, waving for me to get in. Shaking with cold and anger, I climbed in.In the most polite Japanese, the man said he was called Mike, with who I had spoken three times that morning. He had left his post in the office and raced here in his personal car. He apologized again, but didn’t explain why a taxi would not pick me up. Delivering me straight to the airport, he refused the 2,000 yen I pressed into his hand.A few hours later, as the storm-delayed 727 took off, I opened the newspaper. This unique sense of humor is often cited as one of Britain’s defining national characteristics.“The famous British sense of humor has long been our most cherished national characteristic,” says the British journalist Leo Mckinstry. “We have valued it above historic military victories and great works of literature, above our rich scenic landscape and our talent for invention.”The British sense of humor differs from other countries because it is generally more negative. When it comes to making the British laugh, there is nothing more effective than a socially inappropriate joke.Popular British comedy shows such as Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and The office are full of sarcasm(讽刺), teasing and self-deprecation(自嘲). It reflects the culture where mocking, moaning and ridicule is part of everyday life. While most Britons don’t take these jokes too seriously, foreigners are often puzzled by them. A recent survey found that most foreigners who visited Bri tain found that the British are “arrogant, unfriendly and have almost no sense of humor”.Do foreigners not understand British humor or are the British just not as funny as they think they are? 山西省大同市第一中学2017-2018学年高二上学期期末考试英语试题

2017-2018学年度第一学期期末考试高二英语第Ⅰ卷阅读题(共72分)第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分60分)第一节(共15小题;每小题3分,满分45分)AThe manager of Samoan airline says that they are the world’s first carrier to charge passengers by their weight. Samoa Air, which opened in 2012, asks passengers to give their personal weight during booking, which is then charged according to the length of a flight. The customers will also be weighed just before they board the plane.“It is believed that all people throughout the world are the same size,” Samoa Air CEO Chris Langton said. “Airplanes always run on weight, not seats.”“There is no doubt in my mind that this is the concept of the future. This is the fairest way of your travelling with your family or yourself.”Though the airline introduced the plan last November, it caught people's attention last week when the carrier began international flights to neighboring American Samoa.Almost at the same time, a Norwegian economist, Bharat Bhatta, published a report suggesting that airlines should charge obese(过度肥胖的)passengers more. The Pacific Islands contain some of the world’s most common countries for obesity, many ranking in the top 10, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Samoa is ranked number four, with 59.6 percent of the population considered obese, said the most recent WHO report. According to Samoa Air's latest schedule, the airline charges up to $0.57 per kg for flights in Samoa and $1.03 per kg for its only international flight to American Samoa, around 250 miles.Children under 12 are charged 75 percent of the adult rate, with fares also based on weight. Any overweight baggage is calculated at the same rate as the passenger's personal weight. The plan could actually prove cheaper in some cases, such as for families travelling with small children, and Langton said customer reaction has mainly been "amazingly positive".The idea of charging passengers by weight has been hotly discussed before, and in the US some airlines require those who do not fit into a seat comfortably to buya second seat.1. What does the underlined word "this" in Paragraph 3 refer to?A. Airlines should charge passengers by flight length.B. All people throughout the world are the same size.C. It is unfair to weigh passengers at the airport.D. Airplanes always run on weight, not seats.2. In Bharat Bhatta’s eyes, Samoa Air's plan might be _______.A. funnyB. acceptableC. strangeD. disappointing3. A 100 kg adult flying to American Samoa would be charged _______.A. $57B. $75C. $103D. $1254. What does the text mainly tell us?A. 59.6% of Samoans are considered obese.B. Samoa Air introduces pay-by-weight pricing.C. Airlines should charge obese passengers more.D. Baggage must be calculated as passengers’ weight.BWhen you are shopping in a department store and you see a couple of attractive young women looking at a sweater. You listen to their conversation:"I can't believe it-Lorenzo Bertolla! They are almost impossible to find.Isn't it beautiful? And it's a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome."They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It's nice and the price is right. You've never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those girls looked really stylish. They must know. So,you buy it.You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes.Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing.Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it.Undercover marketing is important because it reaches people that don't pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation-consumers between the age of 18and 34.It's a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don't trust ads.So advertising agencies hire young actors to"perform"in bars and other places where young adults go.Some people might call this practice misleading, but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative."Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing."However, one might ask what exactly is“real”about of young women pretending to be enthusiastic about a sweater? Advertising managers would say it’s no less real than an ad.The difference is that you know an ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. You don't know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance.5.The two attractive young women were talking so that they could___.A.get the sweater at a lower priceB.be heard by people aroundC.be admired by other shoppersD.decide on buying the sweater6.Lorenzo Bertolla is___.A.the name of a popular singerB.an advertising agencyC.a clothing company in RomeD.the brand name of a sweater7.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?A.Two Attractive ShoppersB.Lorenzo Bertolla SweatersC. Ways of AdvertisingD.Undercover MarketingCHow many things can you see in the night sky?A lot!On a clear night you might see the Moon, some planets, and thousands of sparkling stars. You can see even more with a telescope. You might see stars where before you only saw dark space. You might see that many stars look larger than others. You might see that some stars that look white are really red or blue. With bigger and bigger telescopes you can see more and more objects in the sky.And you can see those objects in more and more detail. But scientists believe there are some things in the sky that we will never see.We won't see them with the biggest telescope in the world,on the clearest night of the year. That's because they're invisible. They're the mysterious dead stars called black holes. You might find it hard to imagine that stars die. After all,our Sun is a star.Year after year we see it up in the sky, burning brightly, giving us heat and light. The Sun certainly doesn't seem to be getting old or weak. But stars do burn out and die after billions of years. As a star's gases burn, they give off light and heat. But when the gas runs out,the star stops burning and begins to die.As the star cools, the outer layers of the star pull in toward the center. The star squashes(挤) into a smaller and smaller ball.If the star was very small, the star ends up as a cold, dark ball called a black dwarf. If the star was very big,it keeps squashing inward until it's packed together tighter than anything in the universe.Imagine if the Earth were crushed(挤压) until it was the size of a tiny marble (弹球).That's how tightly this dead star,a black hole,is packed. What pulls the star in toward its center with such power? It's the same force that pulls you down when you jump-the force called gravity.A black hole is so tightly packed that its gravity(重力) sucks in everything-even light. The light from a black hole can never come back to your eyes. That's why you see nothing but blackness. So the next time you stare up at the night sky, remember:there's more in thesky than meets the eye!Scattered(散开) in the silent darkness are black holes-the great mystery of space.8.According to the article, what causes a star to die?A.As its gases run out,it cools down.B.It crashes into other stars.C.It can only live for about a million years.D.As it gets hotter and hotter,it explodes.9.Paragraph 5 and Paragraph 6 mainly tells us___.A.what a black hole isB.why we can’t see black holesC.black holes have enormous gravityD.the formation of black holes10.What happens after a star dies?A.It burns up all of its gases.B.It becomes invisible.C.It falls to Earth.D.It becomes brighter and easier to see.11.Why can't you see light when you look at a black hole?A.Most black holes are so far away.B..Because the gravity of a black hole is so strong that it sucks the light inward.C.Because as the star's gases burn,it stops giving off heat and lightD.Because as a star cools, its outer layers pull in toward its center.DMoving to a new city and state was difficult for me, especially in winter. Little did I know that a Colorado snowstorm would greet me after I had been in my new home for only a week.I just missed home. But more than the old house and the beach, I missed Stacey, my best friend. And I missed our lovely tea. Going to a sweet little tearoom, we had discovered was a special treat for us. The place was a Victorian dream, withdelicate teacups and tablecloths with flower prints. The hat shelf near the front door swept us back to childhood. Stacey and I became little girls, trying on different hats until we found the perfect one for our dress-up tea party. We would then choose a lovely table and order our tea. That was a precious time, filled with laughter between scones(煎饼) and sharing our lives between tiny cucumber sandwiches.Springtime descended upon Denver, and the sun lightened my heart. But I still fought loneliness almost every day. I decided to explore the Denver area. While my husband went to the office, I took time to see what our new area had to offer. One day, I was walking along the street when suddenly the words "Tea Leaves" caught my eye. A tea room? Here, in the land of loneliness and pain?I walked through the doors, and tears came to my eyes. It was a beautiful room, not Victorian, but simple and lovely.I sat down and ordered a pot of tea, a cucumber sandwich, and some scones. It felt silly and wonderful --- and it felt like home. For the first time since moving, I felt as if this new city and state could be, would eventually be, my home. I would come back here and bring new friends. When Stacey visited, we would come here.I lifted my cup and made a silent toast. I toasted Stacey, whom I missed, andI toasted the sweet little tearoom that lessened my pain.12. The underlined word "treat" in Paragraph 2 probable means ____________. A.delicious food B.something pleasantC.service D.a kind of tea party13. Which of the following about "Tea Leaves" is true?A.It made the author recall her childhood.B.It looks silly and wonderful.C.Cucumber sandwiches and scones are its specialties.D.It touched the author.14. We can infer from the text that the author would probably ____________. A.open her own teahouseB.ask the owner of the teahouse to decorate it like a homeC.Want to actively adapt to the new environmentD.go back to her hometown to visit Stacey15. What would be the best title for the passage?A.East and West,Home Is the BestB.A Friend in Need Is A Friend IndeedC.A Difficult SettlementD.A Cup of Comfort第二节(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Since Fridays mark the start of the weekend in many countries, behavior in general tends to be more relaxed on Fridays, with some employers not being as particular about standards, and sometimes this is formalized in a casual Friday policy. Truly casual clothing like sweatpants and T-shirts is usually not satisfying. The casual Friday concept was one of the first signs that strict dress codes for offices were starting to relax. The principle of Dress-Down Fridays seems to have appeared around the 1950s, probably in response to changing attitudes toward careers and the workplace. Over time, some offices have relaxed their dress codes even more, adopting a business casual dress code every day.On casual Fridays, employees may wear clothing which is classified as ―business casual‖, meaning that it still obeys certain standards. Clothing must be clean and in good repair, with no spots or discolorations (变色). Men are generally allowed to wear casual trousers and bright-colored clothes, and in some offices they may be allowed to wear button down shirts or polo shirts, with or without a tie. Women tend to wear neat skirts or dresses; casual trousers are common and generally perfectly acceptable, except in very conservative workplaces. As a general rule, extremely casual clothing like jeans, shorts, T-shirts, tank tops (吊带衫) and so forth, is discouraged on casual Fridays. Employees are still expected to make an effort to look professional, out of respect to their offices and their customers. Many people feel that casual Fridays are go od for employees’ mood, encouraging employees to express their individuality and feel more comfortable in the office. Others feel that business casual dress and the concept of casual Fridays devalues the workplace, by taking a sense of formality and respect away. Approaches to casual Fridays vary, depending on the industry and the nation; the technology industry, for example, is well-known for casual dress in general, while major financial companies tend to dislike casual dress.24. From the second paragraph, we can infer that .A. the casual Friday concept is out of fashionB it’s forbidden to wear casual clothing in offices beforeC. the idea of casual Fridays has originated from the early 1990sD. employees can wear all kinds of casual clothing every day now25 The underlined word ―devalues‖ in the last paragraph means ―‖.A. thinks little ofB. thinks highly ofC. estimates highlyD. takes the place of26. But since the tsunami and nucleardisaster in Fukushima (Japan) last year the issue is back in the headlines. And the world is divided—some countries are planning more nuclear plants, while others have promised to shut theirs down. After Fukushima, Germany decided to switch off all its nuclear plants by 2022. Switzerland and Italy are also phasing out nuclear power. But France and the United States remain staunch supporters of atomic energy. In fact, almost 80% of France’s electricity comes from nuclear power, the highest percentage in the world. And in the US, the Obama administration said it “continues to support the expansion of nuclear power, despite the crisis in Japan.”Nuclear supporters claim nuclear power can help the environment. Unlike fossil fuels, nuclear power doesn’t create greenhouse gases. So, pro-nuclear countries argue that nuclear power allows them to generate energy without contributing to climate change. Britain’s chief scientific adviser (John Beddington) supports this view. He recently said that the world doesn’t have the luxury of ignoring nu clear energy.Nuclear power is also relatively cheap. Renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro and wind power may be clean, but they’re expensive; and right now, they require a lot of investment. This higher cost of using “green energy” is usually pas sed onto the consumer. So, while many people may prefer their energy to come from a renewable source, not so many are prepared to pay higher energy bills. This is of particular concern while the world economy is in such bad shape. The main argument against nuclear energy is that it isn’t safe. For a start, nuclear waste is very difficult to dispose of, and remains toxic to humans for thousands of years. And even before Fukushima, there were several high-profile nuclear disasters. The most famous is probably the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, in the Ukraine. The radiation from the meltdown spread all over Europe, affecting thousands. The nuclear energy issue is very complex. And it doesn’t look like it’ll be resolved anytime soon. As a Japanese commentator recently said, “it’s been a bad year for the ‘nuclear village’, but I don’t think they’re down and out yet.” The battle continues.41. What does the underlined word“this ” refer to in paragraph 4?A. The fact that many people prefer to use the green energy sources while unwilling to payhigher bill.B. The cost of using renewable sourcesC. The fact that the nuclear power is cheaper.D. The investment of renewable energy sources42. In the 5th paragraph, the author takes the case of Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine to _______.A. convince the reader that nuclear waste is difficult to get rid of.B. explain that nuclear waste may remain harmful to humans for thousands of years.C. persuade the world not to use nuclear energy.D. support the idea that nuclear energy is not safe.43. We can learn from the last paragraph that _______.A. the Japanese commentator is positive about the future of nuclear energy.B. the nuclear energy issue will be soon settled.C. a battle will break out in the future.D. Japan is considering to build a nuclear village in the future.44.What is the author's purpose of writing the passage?A. To highlight the danger of using nuclear energy.B. To introduce some serious nuclear disasters.C. To show the argument between nuclear supporters and protesters.D. To give some advice on how to use nuclear energy safely.BThere is a serious problem to our earth. That's global warming. No doubt the tons of carbon dioxide being thrown up into the air are dangerously warming the earth. It is clear that average temperature has risen during the last century. Not everyone can believe that carbon dioxide is responsible. A new study shows us it is not all the fault of carbon dioxide. Some scientists studied the sun and found that when the sun becomes more active, the earth warms up. When the sun quiets, as it did in the 1950s and 1960s,temperature takes a dip (下降).So some scientists said the sun's changeable moods may be more important than c arbon dioxide in warming the earth. You might think that “global warming” means nothing more than a rise in the world's temperature. But rising sea levels caused by it have affected our environment and living standard in many ways.We can't change the sun's moods .So in order not to make the earth warming up, what we can do is to control the amount of giving off carbon dioxide. Studies have shown that humanrelated emissions (排放物) of carbon into the atmosphere is causing, and will in the future cause seriously global warming. Many countries have already made some laws to stop sending carbon dioxide into the air directly. As an ordinary person,we use fewer cars when we go out. We can ride a bike or walk.It is not onlygood for environment, but also good for our health. Are you ready? It is the time that we do something for the global warming. Let us go for it.45.What makes the earth become warmer and warmer?A.Carbon dioxide B.The sun C.The air D.A and B 46.The scientists also said that the sun's changeable moods may be________than carbon dioxide in warming the earth.A.more serious B.more difficultC.more terrible D.more important47.What should we do in order not to make the global warming?A.We should try to change the sun's changeable moods.B.We should control sending carbon dioxide into the air directly.C.We should make some laws to prevent people from driving.D.We should make the sun become more active.CJune 26, 2000—the Human Genome(基因组) Project, a great $3 billion, 15year task aimed at drawing the genetic(遗传的) map of humans, is now more than 90 percent completed. The scientific and medical communities(团体) are very excited about the chances genetic research provides for getting rid of diseases and prolonging(延长) human life. But those communities and policy(政策) makers also are careful about the scientific door they are opening as the project uncovers the mysteries of life. For the last few years, the genetic advances in the developing field of biotechnology(生物技术) have provides material for all kinds of work, but the developments of modern science in unlocking the secrets of the human genetic code(密码) have opened a world of possibilities for human health, as well as for the popular imagination. While European and Japanese researchers are making rapid progress in decoding(解码) human DNA, the leading organization for genetic research is in the United States, which began in 1990, is “unlocking the code” of the human body to learn how to defeat fatal(致命的)diseases. Already, the Human Genome Project has become widely known and praised for finding the genes(基因) connected with terrible diseases as yet(迄今), and making progress toward separating the genes that show a sign of breast cancer or AIDS.Once these genes are found and studied, researchers can develop new ways to attack infections(传染), and genetic diseases. Medical companies are very interested in mapping the human genome, as they expect to develop a lot of new drugs for these illnesses.48. Why did the scientists work hard at mapping the human genome?A. Because the human genome can destroy many illnesses.B.Because the human genome's completion can help them get rid of many diseases.C.Because they wanted to be better known than others.D.Because the human genome can provide a lot of chances of work.49.Which country studied the genes most rapidly in the world?A.Japan. B.Germany. C.The United States. D.China.50.Which of the following is NOT true?A.If the genes can be found, scientists can study many new ways to cure illnesses.B.The scientists have made great progress in connecting the genes with the cancers.C.Many medical companies show great interest in drawing the human genome map.D.The United States began the Genes Study early in the 19th century.D(七选五)Change the world.I want the world to be a better one because I am in it. Good_morning,_everyone,
I_am_Li_Hua_._The_topic_of_my_speech_is_“Let's_Ride_Bicycles”.
As is known to all, with the improvement of people's living standards, cars have become a popular means of transport, bringing great convenience to our life. However, they have also caused some problems such as air pollution and traffic jams.
How can we solve the problems then? As far as I'm concerned, riding bicycles and taking a bus are good solutions. For one thing, bicycles don't need any petrol and they are energysaving. For another thing, taking a bus is relatively environmentally friendly because they give off less waste gas than private cars. What's more, they are cheaper. Therefore, let's take the responsibility t o build up a lowcarbon city . Come on and join us! Thank_you_!。
