We always start in the Fantasyland area to ride the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Peter Pan's Flight. But my personal favorite areas are Tomorrowland with the TRON Lightcycle Power Run coaster and Adventure Isle with its Roaring Rapids river rapids ride that gets you completely drenched!Next up, let me tell you about Xintiandi. This area used to be full of old shikumen houses that Shanghai was famous for. Shikumen houses had classic stone-framed doors and windows. Instead of tearing these houses down, they restored and rebuilt them into modern restaurants, shops, and entertainment areas while keeping that historic Shanghai feel.Now Xintiandi is one of the trendiest spots in the city. It's filled with neon lights, alleyways lined with bars and cafes, and little plazas for events and street food vendors. At holiday times like Chinese New Year, they decorate everything so beautifully. I love getting a puffy creme brulee tart from one of the dessert shops and strolling around the car-free streets admiring all the historic architecture mixed with sleek new stylings.For science and tech lovers, you have to visit the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum! This place is mind-blowingly huge with tons of interactive exhibits spread across several buildings and outdoor areas. You can see a realyinghuo-1 rocket that went to space, build your own robots, ride a simulated rocket launch, and so much more.My favorite is the virtual reality zone where you can put on a VR headset and experience flying over Shanghai, traveling through the human body, and exploring ancient China. Itseriously feels like you get shrunk down and transported into these crazy virtual worlds. I could spend all day in that section!Those are some of the highlights, but there's still the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium with underwater tunnels to view sharks and rays, the Shanghai Tower's vertigo-inducingglass-floored observation decks, Fengshen Skateplaza for skateboarding and BMX stunts, and way too many other attractions to list. No matter what you're into, Shanghai has something unbelievable for everyone!I feel so lucky to live in such a big, diverse, exciting city. I just got back from visiting there with my family and I can't wait to tell you all about the awesome places we went. Shanghai has so many fun things to see and do. Let me start from the beginning!We flew into the ginormous Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Just the airport itself was exciting with so many planes taking off and landing. Once we got our bags, we took a taxi into the city center. Shanghai is humongous with over 24 million people living there! The taxi driver didn't speak much English, but luckily my dad knows some Mandarin so he could give directions.Our hotel was right in the heart of downtown near the Bund waterfront area. This is one of the most famous spots in Shanghai with old European-style buildings on one side and modern skyscrapers on the other side across the Huangpu River. At night, the whole area lights up in a spectacular light show. We went on a Huangpu River cruise to see the skyline up close - it was breathtaking!One of my favorite experiences was going up to the top of the 2,073 foot Shanghai Tower, which is the second tallest building in the world. The views from the observation decks were out of this world. You could see the entire city stretching out in all directions. I felt like I was on top of the world up there!Another incredibly cool place we visited was the Shanghai Disney Resort. It's kind of like the Disneyland in California, but even bigger with more rides and attractions. We spent two full days at the theme parks going on all the thrilling roller coasters and watching the amazing shows and parades. My favorite ride was the TRON Lightcycle Power Run - it's an insane futuristic motorbike coaster where you get to ride a motorcycle-style vehicle through the dazzling digital world. So rad!Of course, no trip to Shanghai would be complete without visiting the Yuyuan Garden, an amazingly beautiful classic Chinese garden right in the middle of the city. It was built back in the 1500s for a high-ranking official. We wandered along the winding paths, over the arched bridges, and around the peaceful ponds and rock sculptures. It felt like stepping back in time to ancient China. Nearby is the Yuyuan Bazaar, a huge outdoor market selling every kind of Chinese snack, souvenir, and handicraft you can imagine.We also explored some incredible museums, like the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum filled with hands-on exhibits about space, the human body, robots, and more. They even had an artificial tornado machine and a U-shaped cycling track that defied gravity! So much fun.And the food...oh man, the food in Shanghai was out of this world! We had amazing xiaolongbao (those delicious steamed soup dumplings), shengjianbao (pan-fried baos filled with pork), jianbing (crispy crepe-like breakfast wraps), and other crazy good street foods. My parents also took me to some incredible Shanghainese restaurants for fancier cuisine like hairy crab, beggar's chicken, and drunken shrimp. Everything was bursting with rich flavors unlike anything we can get back home. I probably gained 10 pounds on this trip!I could go on and on, but I'm running out of space to write. There is also the Fjord Rafting water coaster that splashes you down a giant water slide. My little brother's favorite is the Revolution coaster that spins you around and around until you feel dizzy. Apart from the wild rides, there are fun shows with dolphins, sea lions, and acrobats. You can even pet seals and swim with dolphins if you aren't scared!Not far away is the Shanghai Disneyland Park which is definitely a magical place for kids. It has so many classic Disney rides and attractions spread across different themed lands. I love racing through Space Mountain in Tomorrowland and sailing through Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland. Over the years, the gardens fell into disrepair until about 1760 when bought by merchants, before suffering extensive damage in the 19th century. In 1842, during the Opium Wars, the British army occupied the Town God Temple for five days. During the Taiping Rebellion the gardens were occupied by imperial troops, and damaged again by the Japanese in 1942. They were repaired by the Shanghai government from 1956–1961, opened to the public in 1961, and declared a national monument in 1982.DesignYu Yuan GardenToday, Yuyuan Garden occupies an area of 2 hectares (5 acres), and is divided into six general areas laid out in the Suzhou style:Grand Rockery - rockery made of huangshi stone (12 m high), featuring peaks, cliffs, winding caves and gorges. a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. The garden was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pan's parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age. In the 400 years of its existence, Yuyuan Garden had undergone many changes. During the late Ming Dynasty, it became very dilapidated with the decline of Pan's family. In 1760, some rich merchants bought Yuyuan Garden and spent more than 20 years reconstructing the buildings. During the Opium War of the 19th century, Yuyuan Garden was severely damaged. The Yuyuan Garden you see today is the result of a five year restoration project which began in 1956. The garden was open to the public in September, 1961.
