However, about the administration had been argued for a long time. In fact, at the time when the invasion of Iraq first been put forward, most senators were indisagreement .Unfortunately, the President Bush willfully persisted doing that. As the result, such a great loss not only in large casualties but also in a depression of America economy testifies that the Iraq War at the beginning is incorrect. Challenger{1} In some cases, a tiny mistake may cause a huge catastrophe. For example, the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred in 1986, when Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, leading to the deaths of its seven crew members. The spacecraft disintegrated over the Atlantic Ocean. Disintegration of entire vehicle began after an O-ring seal in its right solid rocket booster (SRB) failed at liftoff .The O-ring failure caused a breach in the SRB joint it sealed, allowing pressurized hot gas from within the solid rocket motor to reach outside and impinge upon the adjacent SRB attachment hardware. It is this tiny mistake that broke up the orbiter. Therefore it is as vital to concern the situation as a whole as it is to emphasis details.(可用之处:1.细节决定成败;2.小的错误会酿成大错){2}Nothing will suspend the human exploration of the universe. For instance, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, leading to the deaths of its seven crew members. However, after the accident, NASA continue their project on investigation, hearing , engineering redesign of the SRBs, and other behind-the-senses technical and management reviews ,changes and preparations. In 1988, Space Shuttle Discovery lifted of with a crew of five from Kennedy Space Center, which represented a test of the redesigned boosters, a shift to a more conservative stance on safety. Frank YangFrank Yang, a renowned physicist who won the Nobel Prize in theoretical physical. Although he won the top achievement –Nobel Prize for his non-conservation of parity theory, he struggled with what kind of physics he would choose at the start. When he was a graduate student, his major was experimental physics. At MIT, there was a joke widespread disseminated. It said “you can find Frank wherever has an explosion.” He tried hardly to improve his procedures, and repeated his experiment over and over; he still couldn’t figure out how to solve the problems. After his professor had an access to what he had done, the professor was attracted by his summary talent and steady theoretical physics knowledge. The professor suggested Frank that he should re-choose his major, and switchexperimental physics to theoretical physics. Frank adopted his professor idea. Consequently, he devoted his life to the theoretical which is more suitable for him and acquired the remarkable achievements for science and human. If he had not taken the advice from his professor, he might never stand out or accomplish any valuable things for human.6. BusinessPersistence plays an essential role in determining one's success in business. For example, Chirrs Gardner, the main character in the movie named The Pursuit of Happiness, is trying to be a stockbroker at a company because of the financially breaking. Untalented as he is, he never gives up, squeezing time to finish his work when other competitors take a rest .Also, he always busy working between officers and customers tireless .After 6 months training, it is his persistence in working that guarantees his great success. Therefore, what I want to emphasize is that the individuals without outstanding ability can be successful by being persistent.7. John NashBefore 1950, Adam Smith was respected as “the father of Game Theory”, he wrote a famous book named The Wealth of Nations and demonstrated “perfect competition” which was commonly accepted by people. There is a sentence from the book “Individual ambition serious the common good” which means when each individual pursue his own interests, the benefits of the group will be improved most effectively. However, John Nash, a normal mathematician in Princeton University, created a theory “Nash Equilibrium” whic h laid the foundation of Game Theory in 1950. He doubted the statement from Adam Smith, and he succeeded. John Nash wrote a 28 pages dissertation to argue a new theory. Due to the fact that personal benefits conflict each other, the interest of a group will be harmed. To ensure the interests of whole group, individuals should find equilibrium between the personal and group interests. Consequently, John Nash received the Nobel Prize in economics and fundamentally reformed the arena of economics.8. Henry FordHenry ford, one of the most influential inventors in the history, was always inattentive in school. Once, he and a friend took a watch apart to probe the principle behind it. Angry and upset, the teacher punished him both to stay after school. Their punishment was to stay until they had fixed the watch. But the teacher did not know young ford’s genius, in ten minutes; this mechanical wizard had repaired the watch and was on this way home. It is imagination that invigorated Ford to make a through inquiry about things he did not know. He once plugged up the spout of a teapot and placed it on the fire. Then he waited to see what would happen. The water boiled and, of course, turned to steam. Since the steam had no way to escape, the teapot exploded. The explosion cracked a mirror and broke a window. Ford’s year of curiosity and tinkering paid off, when he built his imagination of horseless carriage into reality, thehistory of transportation was changed forever.9. So far, he has spoken to over two million people so far, in twelve countries on four continents. In his DVD he said: "No Arms, No Legs, No Worries”,”“Attitude Is Altitude"11.Wolfgang Amadeus MozartWolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791), was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. He composed over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concert, chamber, piano, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers.Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood in Salzburg. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty; at 17 he was engaged as a court musician in Salzburg, but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position, always composing abundantly. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He chose to stay in the capital, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years in Vienna, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of Mozart's death. The circumstances of his early death have been much mythologized. He was survived by his wife Constanze and twosons.( 可用之处:天才儿童,重视天赋,培养,个人兴趣)Mozart learned voraciously from others, and developed a brilliance and maturity of style that encompassed the light and graceful along with the dark and passionate. His influence on subsequent Western art music is profound. SAT写作经典例子之“贝多芬”贝多芬的经历是非常曲折坎坷的,在SAT写作例子中非常具有代表性。

Beethoven,German composer. He is universallyrecognized as one of the greatest composers of theWestern European music tradition. Beethoven's workcrowned the classical period and also effectivelyinitiated the romantic era in music. He is one of thefew artists who genuinely may be consideredrevolutionary.LifeBorn in Bonn, Beethoven showed remarkable talent at an early age. His father, a courtmusician, subjected him to a brutal regimen, hoping to exploit him as a child prodigy. Whilethis plan did not succeed, young Beethoven's gifts were recognized and nurtured by histeachers and by members of the local aristocracy. In 1787 Beethoven first visited Vienna, atthat time the center of the music world. There he performed for Mozart, whom he greatlyimpressed. In 1792 Haydn invited him to become his student, and Beethoven returned to Vienna, where he was to remain permanently. However, Beethoven's unorthodox musical ideasoffended the old master, and the lessons were terminated. Beethoven studied with severalother eminent teachers, including Antonio Salieri, but was developing according to his ownsingular genius and could no longer profit greatly from instruction. Both his breathtaking piano virtuosity and his remarkable compositions won Beethovenfavor among the enlightened aristocracy congregated at Vienna, and he enjoyed theirgenerous support throughout his life. They were tolerant, too, of his notoriously boorishmanners, careless appearance, and towering rages. His work itself was widely accepted, ifcontroversial, and from the end of the 1790s Beethoven was not dependent on patronagefor his income. The year 1801 marked the onset of Beethoven's tragic affliction, his deafness, whichbecame progressively worse and, by 1817, total. Public performance eventually becameimpossible; but his creative work was not restricted. Beethoven never married; however, hewas stormily in and out of love all his life, always with women unattainable because of marriageor station. His personal life was further complicated when he was made the guardian of hisnephew Karl, who caused him much anxiety and grief but towhom he nevertheless remainedfondly attached.Beethoven died, after a long illness, in the midst of a fierce thunderstorm, and legend hasit that the dying man shook his fist in defiance of the heavens.CompositionsBy the 19th cent., Beethoven's work could already be divided into three fairly distinctperiods. The works of the first period include the First (1800) and Second (1802) Symphonies;the first three piano concertos (1795?800); the first group of string quartets (1800); and anumber of piano sonatas, among them the Pathique (1798) and the Moonlight Sonata (1801).Although the compositions of the first period have Beethoven's unmistakable breadth andvitality, they are dominated by the tradition of Haydn and Mozart.Beginning about 1802, Beethoven's work took on new dimensions. The premiere in 1805 ofthe massive Third Symphony, known as the Eroica (composed 1803?), was a landmark incultural history. It signaled a definitive break with the past and the birth of a new era. Thelength, structure, harmonies, and orchestration of the Eroica all broke the formal conventionsof classical music; unprecedented too was its intention to celebrate human freedom andnobility. The symphony was originally dedicated to Napoleon, who at first symbolized toBeethoven the spirit of the French Revolution and the liberation of mankind; however, whenNapoleon proclaimed himself emperor, the disillusioned composer renamed his work the"Heroic Symphony to celebrate the memory of a great man."The works of Beethoven's middle period, his most productive, include the Piano ConcertosNo. 4 (1806) and No. 5 (Emperor Concerto, 1809); the Razumovsky Quartets (1806); his NinthSonata for violin, the Kreutzer Sonata (1803), and his one Violin Concerto (1806); the Fourththrough Eighth Symphonies (1806?2); a number of piano sonatas, among them the Waldsteinand the Appassionata (both 1804). His sole opera, Fidelio, was produced in its first version in1805 and in its final form in 1814. Beethoven wrote four overtures for the opera, three ofthem known as the Leonore Overture. He also composed overtures to Collin's Coriolan (1807)and to Goethe's Egmont (1810). From about 1813 to 1820 there was some slackening inBeethoven's productivity, probably due in part to difficulties concerning his nephew.Beethoven's final period dates from about 1816 and is characterized by works of greaterdepth and complexity. They include the demanding, nearly symphonic Hammerklavier sonata(1818) and the other late piano sonatas; the monumental Ninthcomposed in his last years, areconsidered by many music lovers to be Beethoven's supreme creations, and by some the mostsublime music ever composed. An extraordinarily prolific composer, Beethoven produced, in addition to the worksmentioned, sonatas for violin and piano and for cello and piano; string and piano trios; musicfor wind instruments; miscellaneous piano works, including the popular bagatelle Elise (1810);over 200 songs; a number of shorter orchestral works; and several choral pieces.Beethoven's influence on subsequent composers has been immeasurable. Aside from hisarchitectonic innovations and expansion of the classical sonata and symphony, he brought tomusic a new depth and intensity of emotion that was emulated by later romanticcomposersbut probably never surpassed.以上就是关于贝多芬的SAT写作经典例子的全部内容,非常详细的介绍了他的生活以及作曲的过程。

It encourages people and organizations to try harder and do their best. That is why American society is largely organized around competi-tive battles. But a balance is needed. When there is too much competition, everybody loses.Take business as an example. When companies try to win at all costs, people often suffer. Companies fghting for sur-vival may lower their prices, which is good for customers. But companies locked in competition also fre workers, which can hurt thousands of families. Sometimes managers feel driven to use unfair tactics, as when companies exploit employees by failing to pay overtime wages. Competition that is out of control can hurt average Americans.Politics is another feld where competition has gotten out of hand. At one time, competition in politics took place only during elections. Now it is constant. Politicians call one another names, accuse one another of crimes, and run ads attacking each other. The high cost of campaign ads makes it hard for candidates who aren’ t rich to be elected. No wonder many Americans say they have come to hate politics. Now competition has even come to the T V screen. Today’s most popular shows are “reality” shows where people lie, cheat, and hurt each other. What kind of lesson about life does this send to young kids who may be watching? We will never do away with all competition – and we should not try to. But too much of agood thing can be bad and this is true of competition.。

下面是一个简单的SAT格式解析示例:假设我们有一个布尔表达式:(a AND b) OR (c AND d),其中a、b、c和d 是布尔变量。

在SAT格式中,这个表达式可以表示为:(a & b) | (c & d)其中,"&" 表示AND操作," "| " 表示OR操作," "表示括号。

这个表达式可以描述为以下形式:(a & b) | (c & d) = (a' & b')' | (c' & d')'其中,a'表示a的非,即1-a。

这个表达式可以进一步转换为以下形式:(a' & b')' | (c' & d')' = (a' & b') | (c' & d') = a'b' | c'd'现在,我们可以通过解析这个表达式来找到一个符合条件的解。

Endurance and toleration was a kind of victory on some aspect. As the first black player in MLB, Robinson would never fade from American’s heart for his enormous bravery to challenge tradition, breaking color barrier on field and thus earning black player dignity and justice right. Having meticulously carried out experiments, Galileo decided that his owntheory was more scientific. Demonstrating the novel theory, on the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa around which the crowd built, he dropped two substances instantaneously from the same height, which were same in shape but different in mass. The next day, June 18, Grouchy, commanding one third of the army of his emperor, was unable to follow Prussian army. Despite hearing the cannon sound from nearby Waterloo, he decided to follow the Prussians along the route literally specified in his orders while the Prussian and British-Dutch armies united to crush Napoleon. The poor Napoleon was fail to witness his relief troops to come and it is two days later, on June 19, when Grouchy finally realized that Napoleon had already lost at Waterloo.4Never would Napoleon go to meet his maker as a prisoner on an insolate island if Grouchy gained the bravery to break the rules and turn back to Waterloo in which only cost 3 hours to get. In this Grouchy case, breaking rules may sometimes lead us to a better upshot.集体,个人权威,主流适应,改变Mark Zuckerberg1 An exceeding American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur, Mark Zuckerberg is best known as one of the five co-founders of the social networking Facebook, now serving the CEO of his own company.2 However, had Zuckerberg made a wrong choice 12 years ago, he would never own his immensely social empire.3 It was during his high school years, he built a music player called the Synapse Media Player that used machine learning to learn the user's listening habits, which was posted to Slashdot and received a rating of 3 out of 5 from PC magazine.Shocking by Zuckerberg’s talent, software and AOL tried to purchase Synapse and recruited him.4 However, he complained of the unsuitable meeting time for 8:00 A.M. is too early for him to wake up and thus, in September 2002, chose instead to enroll at Harvard in which the legend of Facebook initiated.5 We could not and dare not to imagine what our world is like if Zuckerberg had received those high pay job and thus worked as a normal programmer. Maybe we would never welcome the greatest invention of 21st century to this world, and maybe an app called Facebook would vanish from people’s phone. However, Watson totally served as this “fundament” and provided considerable contribution to their cooperation. What’s more, Crick, at the same time, could always scrutinize problems from a unique point of view for he never limit to conventional law from biology.4 After several surmise and data collecting, two congenial researcher, Watson and Crick soon met with their first success in 1953, publishing the first double-helix, molecular model of DNA in the journal natural and this unprecedented discovery earned them the Nobel Prize in Physiology and medicine in 1962.5 Never could one of them made this preeminent achievement without the support from each other, so sometimes work as a team may acquire a extraordinary upshot than one can imagine. 集体和个人Martin Luther King1Martin Luther King was an America humanitarian, activist and leader in the Africa-American Civil Right movement. Government finally forced to compromise, ruling in Browder v. Gayle (1956) that Alabama's racial segregation laws for buses were unconstitutional.5What we respected and admired Martin Luther King not only was his contribution to AmericaCivil right movement but also his ever-lasting sprit that always inspire and remind people to chase for freedom and justice rights. He soon developed a partying and ______ lifestyle. However, in vain have he tried to escape from the past trepidation, getting instead more confused and vacuous. Kelly and others executives of the popular television series Ally McBeal even decided to dismiss Downey from the show mostly due to his notorious drug habits and tons of arrests, despite the fa ct that the Downey’s character had resuscitated Ally McBeal’s ratings. After five years of substance abuse, arrest, rehab, and relapse, in 2001, Robert Downey Jr. was finally ready to work toward a full recovery from drugs and a return to his career.4 Deciding to change, he got start to practice Chinese kongfu and Brazil Jujustu. Enormous sweat and pain served as the catalyst of his revival, and he never felt embarrassing to show his scar left by boxing while proud of them. He ended 2012 ranked no.4 in the world, the first time in eight years that he has dropped from top 3.3 Troubled with tendinitis in his knee, Nadal spent almost half a year out of court, and most critics claimed that he was almost close to an end of his career due to his extremely playing style. 4In 2013, obviously recovering from disease and shadow of failure, the Spanish returned, showing his fervently winning desire in his 12th season of career. Opposite to what critics had predicted, Nadal show his more powerful forehead and unprecedented agility on court, therefore winning 10 champion including the French Open and US Open during his first returned season. In November 2013, the all-new Nadal secured the year end World Number one spot in the final event of the season in London. “Ki ng of clay” has returned.5 After all that time, disease and the loss of No.1 have failed to defeat Nadal but have helped to create an invincible ruler, pushing him to surmount the original himself. However, the effect of being an indifferent man proved negligible, although reached a higher rank, he still cannot end his humiliated losing streak against Big3 (Federer, Nadal and djokovic) including 11 to Federer, 12 to Nadal and 14 to Djokovic. After defeated by Federer the 13th time in the Indian Wells Master 2013,he tattooed an inspired sentence from Samuel Beckett on his arm, “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better”.4With his mentally invincible quality honed by tons of ______, Wawrinka finally found his first triumph in the ninth season of his career. After winning six matches of the first 4 round, quarter final and semifinal including defeat Djokovic, he faced Nadal in the last match of Austria Open. This time Wawrinka won his opponent in 5 set, ending the losing streak and thus winning his first Grand Slam title. After this final, he became the top ranked tennis player in Switzerland ranking in NO.3 which mean he finally surpass Federer.5Imagine what if Wawrinka had refused to seek for hope from desperation, what if he had compromise to _____ and what if he had retired after suffering too much? Maybe we would never witness his defeating Djokovic and Nadal and we would never welcome the real Waweinka to this world. In this project, over a hundred thousand scientists contributed to the invention and mass-production of the atom bomb, including the prestigious researcher J. Robert Oppenheimer and L. R. Groves. Truman authorized two atom bombs to be dropped in Japan in 1945, one in Hiroshima and the other in Nagasaki. While 90% of the residents died in Hiroshima the very moment the mushroom cloud raised, there was a casualty of over 75,000 people in Nagasaki.4Although Emperor Hiroshito surrendered in 1945 and the allied forces eventually defeated the axis powers, death and injuries were even larger than those in the World War I. Why? More advanced and lethal weapons were developed and adopted in the war. Were it not because such a great number of scientists were converged and given opportunities to contribute to project, the atom bomb could not have been invented in such a short time, and the Second World War could have been ended a few years later, causing more casualties and damages.

John Nash(1928-)When the young Nash had applied to graduate school at Princeton in 1948, his old Carnegie Tech professor, R.J. Duffin, wrote only one line on his letter of recommendation: "This man is a genius". It was at Princeton that Nash encountered the theory of games, then recently launched by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern. However, they had only managed to solve non-cooperative games in the case of "pure rivalries" (i.e. zero-sum). The young Nash turned to rivalries with mutual gain. His trick was the use of best-response functions and a recent theorem that had just emerged - Kakutani's fixed point-theorem. His main result, the "Nash Equilibrium", was published in 1950 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He followed this up with a paper which introduced yet another solution concept - this time for two-person cooperative games - the "Nash Bargaining Solution" (NBS) in 1950. A 1951 paper attached his name to yet another side of economics - this time, the "Nash Programme", reflecting his methodological call for the reduction of all cooperative games into a non-cooperative framework. His contributions to mathematics were no less remarkable. As an undergraduate, he had inadvertently (and independently) proved Brouwer's fixed point theorem. Later on, he went on to break one of Riemann's most perplexing mathematical conundrums. From then on, Nash provided breakthrough after breakthrough in mathematics. In 1958, on the threshold of his career, Nash got struck by paranoid schizophrenia. He lost his job at M.I.T. in 1959 (he had been tenured there in 1958 - at the age of 29) and was virtually incapicated by the disease for the next two decades or so. He roamed about Europe and America, finally, returning to Princeton where he became a sad, ghostly character on the campus - "the Phantom of Fine Hall" as Rebecca Goldstein described him in her novel, Mind-Body Problem. The disease began to evaporate in the early 1970s and Nash began to gradually to return to his work in mathematics. However, Nash himself associated his madness with his living on an "ultralogical" plane, "breathing air too rare" for most mortals, and if being "cured" meant he could no longer do any original work at that level, then, Nash argued, a remission might not be worthwhile in the end. As John Dryden once put it:Great wits are sure to madness near allied, And thin partitions do their bounds divide.Key words: economist illness Nobel price winner3.法拉第,迈克尔法拉第(1791 -- 1867)是英国物理学家、化学家,也是著名的自学成才的科学家。

The Windows system, which Bill Gates develop in the past, still has an important influnence on people’s lives today. Bill Gates, who created Windows system, is a great person because he helped us walk far on the computer’s way. Bill Gates created Windows system, which simplified the system , beautified the outlook, and better the computer engineers’ feelings, with his group. DOS system, which was used before windows system, was ugly and horrible beccause it was only 3 colors with red, blue, yellow, and the only way to use it was typing. You can see how beautiful system Windows is. Because Bill Gates created windows system , People do not need to feel that nightmare from DOS system anymore. If Bill Gates had not created Windows system or he had borned, people would not have used Windows system, that was horrible to morden people. If you walk alone one road, and cannot see other roads, the further you go, the shorter your insight will be. Da Vinci, who was learned with painting, physics, and anatomy, is a great example. He was famous at painting and his famous work is Mona Lisa, which site the standerd for Renaissance in many ways. For centuries, people have been fasinated and bewilded by the technique he used to display the subject in relaxed nature and 3quater pose. Just when people could not found the answer, some experts pointed out that, Da Vinci experienced formal training in the anatomy of human body and made over 200 drawings about human body, which might explain his technological originality. This exprience made him a better painter. Because besides painting, he also learned anatomy. He could create master piece Mona Lisa.投鼠忌器People should follow correct opinions or well-intentioned advice. Otherwise, there will be bad damages. Bian Que, who was a famous doctor in china at 407 BC, treating King Caihuan, who was a king during Bian Que’s period, was a great example. One day, Bian Que met with Caihuan and told to him about he was sick at skin, but Caihuan did not believe that and laughed Bian Que: “Treat a person who is without sick for credit.” Bian Que leaved. Two days later, Bian Que met the king again and said: “Sickness is between skin and muscle, if you do not get treated, and would be worse.” Caihuan still unbelieved that and let Bian Que leave. After five days, Bian Que third time met the king, “Sickness have submerged in stmock, please let me treat you.” Caihuan was angry with a person who always said he was sick, turned around, and leaved with nothing to said. Some days later, Caihuan found that Bian Que was worried about met with him, which made Caihuan curious and let Bian Que met him. “Why did you not want to meet me those days?” Caihuan asked and Bian Que answered: “Because your sickness was submerged in bone, and i can’t treat that.” After a few days, Caihuan found that he was sick and he wanted to look for Bian Que, but Bian Que left his kingdom and found another king to show loyalty. If Caihuan hadheeded Bian Que’s advice and let Bian Que treat him, he would not have died and lost a loyalty good docter. If you had not thought more then two times for doing something, it might have caused a bad outcome. A story, which happened in ancient China, illustrate the truth above. A person lived with his wife in a country. One day, he found a mouse was in his house and that mouse was finding food. He followed the mouse, when he wanted to use a wood to kill the mouse. That mouse jumped in a glenoid, which was made by jade and was very expensive. He found that mouse was eating the food on the glenoid. He was angry and used whole energy with wood to kill mouse. However, that mouse was very smart and jumped out the jade glenoid, but that man still waved that to jade glenoid because he could not stop it. You can imagine, the man broke the expensive jade glenoid and didn’t kill the mouse. If he have thought the outcome when he wave the wood, he would had not broken the glenoid.。

挑战权威1.Martin Luther (1483-1546) stands in history as one of those unique forces, anindividual who by force of will and by his ideas changed the world fundamentally. For a millennium Roman Catholicism had dominated the religious life of Europe.During this long age the pope, or bishop of Rome, amassed far-reaching political and ecclesiastical authority. Centuries before Luther challenged papal authority, the office had already degenerated into one of power politics where spiritualarrogance and ignorance, and even open immorality characterized many of its occupants. In this age of darkness Luther taught that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus as redeemer from sin. His theology challenged the authority of the pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge. In 1521, the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, demanded that Luther appear before the diet of the Holy Roman Empire at Worms. Luther was asked to explain his views and Charles ordered him to recant. Luther refused and he was placed under an imperial ban as an outlaw. He managed to escape, however, and he was hidden away in a castle in Wartburg where he continued to develop his new church. Luther‟s prolific pen, combined with the new printing technology, flooded the continent with Reformation ideas. By 1523, only two years after he stood before the Imperial Diet at Worms, a million copies of Luther‟s religious and political treaties were circulation throughout Germany. His translation of the Bible into the language of the people (instead of Latin) made it more accessible, causing a tremendous impact on the church and on German culture. It fostered the development of a standard version of the German language, added several principles to the art of translation, and influenced the translation into English of the King James Bible.2.Edward Jenner was a country doctor who had studied nature and his naturalsurroundings since childhood. He had always been fascinated by the rural oldwives tale that milkmaids could not get smallpox. He believed that there was a connection between the fact that milkmaids only got a weak version of smallpox –the non-life threatening cowpox – but did not get smallpox itself. A milkmaid who caught cowpox got blisters on her hands and Jenner concluded that it must be the pus in the blisters that somehow protected the milkmaids.Jenner decided to try out a theory he had developed. A young boy called James Phipps would be his guinea pig. He took some pus from cowpox blisters found on the hand of a milkmaid called Sarah. She had milked a cow called Blossom and had developed the tell-tale blisters. Jenner …injected‟ some of the pus into James. Thisprocess he repeated over a number of days gradually increasing the amount of pus he put into the boy. He then deliberately injected Phipps with smallpox. James became ill but after a few days made a full recovery with no side effects. It seemed that Jenner had made a brilliant discovery. He then encountered the prejudices and conservatism of the medical world that dominated London. They could not accept that a country doctor had made such an important discovery and Jenner was publicly humiliated when he brought his findings to London. However, what he had discovered could not be denied and eventually his discovery had to be accepted – a discovery that was to change the world. In 1980, as a result of Jenner's discovery, the World Health Assembly officially declared "the world and its peoples" free from endemic smallpox.追求完美1.Wonderful as living in the current situation is, most of the time, it is essential topursue the perfection on the foundation. We can see through the success ofMcDonald‟s in management that the pursuit of high quality contributes to theprosperity of McDonald‟s.By seeking after the satisfying service and food, McDonald‟s has become theworld‟s largest chain of fast food restaurant, serving 47 million customers daily.First and foremost, in 1940, the business began with a little restaurant established by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino, California. At thebeginning, the brothers did not make much profit from the restaurant by virtue of the ordinary management and service. Later, they were determined to change the current situation and attain great achievements. Therefore, striving to achieve a superior goal, even if it might be unreachable right now, McDonald‟s disciplines itself by an extremely harsh principle, a principle called “QSCV”, whichrepresents quality, service, cleanliness and values. For example, the beef must be processed at least 40 steps before being sold and the milk must be reserved under4 centigrade for freshness. Likewise, the reservation of fries and hamburgersrequires a limited time of 7minutes and 10minuttes respectively. Besides the“QSCV” principle, McDonald‟s implements two main policies. Poli cy 1 is that the customer is always right and the other goes that read Policy 1 if the customer is ever wrong. As a result of the two policies, employees are able to providesatisfying service for customers. Consequently, the pursuit of perfection plays a crucial role in the success of McDonald‟s.2.Through the process of accomplishing the goal to satisfy the customers,Starbucks endeavors to be “a third place” besides home and work. Starbucksoriginated from a local coffee been roaster and retailer opened by Jerry Baldwin in Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington and Starbucks began its expansion withthe speed of a new store every weekday after 1990s. Actually, it was theadventurous spirit that resulted in the high speed and quality and the spiritembodies in different aspects of Starbucks. For instance, its logo is twin-tailed siren and the siren means adventure. What‟s more, Starbucks takes severalspecific and innovative measures to ensure that the coffee aroma is not adulterated.First, Starbucks implements the non-smoking policy strictly. Also, it restricts its employees from wearing strong perfumes. In addition, employees are educated in coffee tasting, growing, roasting and purchasing. Were it not for Starbucks‟ high standard of coffee, it would not be the largest coffeehouse company I the world with 16120 stores in 149 countries. While it is often that we obtain benefits from the stability, we must have thecourage to long for the perfection to achieve high quality.3.Lexus: When you pursue perfection, you can‟t stop at what‟s possible.幸福乐观与自我选择1.Former philosopher, Leo Buscaglia, once stated, "What we call the secret ofhappiness is no more a secret than our willingness to choose life." Therefore, each of us makes a decision concerning our own happiness.Joni Tada A diving accident in 1967 left Tada hospitalized and paralyzed (as a quadriplegic; unable to use her hands or legs).[1] After two years of rehabilitation and in a wheelchair, Tada began working to help others in similar situations.Tada wrote of her experiences in her international best-selling autobiography, Joni, which has been distributed in many languages, and which was made into a featurefilm of the same name.Tada founded Joni and Friends (JAF) in 1979, an organization for Christian ministry in the disability community throughout the world. The organization grew into the establishment in 2006 of the Joni and Friends International Disability Center (IDC).Led by Tada and President and COO Doug Mazza, the Joni and Friends International Disability Center has four flagship programs. Joni and Friends, a daily five minute radio program, is heard over 1,000 broadcast outlets. In 2002 it received the “Radio Program of the Year” award from National Religious Broadcasters. The organization offers family retreats. Wheels for the World collects wheelchairs, which are refurbished by prison inmates and donated to developing nations where, whenever possible, physical therapists fit each chair to a needy disabled child or adult. In 2005, Tada was appointed to the Disability Advisory Committee of the U.S. State Department.During her two years of rehabilitation, Tada learned how to paint with a brush between her teeth, and now sells her artwork.2.Born September 30, 1928, Eliezer Wiesel led a life representative of many Jewishchildren. Growing up in a small village in Romania, his world revolved around family, religious study, community and God. Yet his family, community and his innocent faith were destroyed upon the deportation of his village in 1944.Wiesel survived Auschwitz, Buna, Buchenwald and Gleiwitz. After the liberation of the camps in April 1945, Wiesel spent a few years in a French orphanage and in 1948 began to study in Paris at the Sorbonne. He became involved in journalistic work with the French newspaper L'arche. He was acquainted with Nobel laureate Francois Mauriac, who eventually influenced Wiesel to break his vowed silence and write of his experience in the concentration camps, thus beginning a lifetime of service.Wiesel has since published over thirty books, earned the Nobel Peace Prize, been appointed to chair the President's Commission on the Holocaust, awarded the Congressional Gold Medal of Achievement and more. Due to a fateful car accident in New York in 1956, Wiesel spent a year confined to a wheelchair while recovering. It was during this year that he made the decision to become a U.S. citizen and is still today an active figure within our society, as well as fulfilling his role in Jewish politics around the world. For over four decades, Wiesel has continued to be a powerful advocate for human dignity-as a novelist, dramatist, journalist, religious scholar, and international activist. Seeeking to maintain global awareness of the Nazi atrocities, and to prevent similar crimes against humanity, he has spoken out against human rights abuses in Cambodia, the former Soviet Union, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and South Africa under Apartheid regime.环境保护1.Smog is a type of air pollution; the word "smog" is a portmanteau of smoke and fog. Modern smog is a type of air pollution derived from vehicular emission from internal combustion engines and industrial fumes that react in the atmosphere with sunlight to form secondary pollutants that also combine with the primary emissions to form photochemical smog. Smog is also caused by large amounts of coal burning in an area caused by a mixture of smoke and sulfur dioxide.Being in low basins surrounded by mountains, Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley are notorious for their smog. The millions of vehicles in these basins plus the added effects of the San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles/Long Beach port complexescontribute to further air pollution. While strict regulations by the multiple California government agencies overseeing this problem have reduced the number of Stage 1 smog alerts from several hundred annually to just a few, these geologically predisposed entrapment zones collect pollution levels from cars, trucks and fixed sources which still exceeds health standards and is a pressing issue for the more than 25 million people who live there.。
