the most beautiful bridge in the world
Golden Gate Bridge旧金山金门大桥
Golden Gate Bridge旧金山金门大桥Bridge – probably the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed bridge in the world – are visible from almost every point of elevation in San Francisco. The only cleft in Northern California's 600-mile continental wall, for years this mile-wide strait was considered unbridgeable. As much an architectural as an engineering feat, the Golden Gate took only 52 months to design and build, and was opened in 1937.Designed by Joseph Strauss, it was the first really massive suspension bridge, with a span of 4200ft, and until 1959 ranked as the world's longest. It connects the city at its northwesterly point on the peninsula to Marin County and Northern California, rendering the hitherto essential ferry crossing redundant, and was designed to withstand winds of up to a hundred miles an hour and to swing as much as 27ft. Handsome on a clear day, the bridge takes on an eerie quality when the thick white fogs pour in and hide it almost completely. You can either drive or walk across. The drive is the more thrilling of the two options as you race under the bridge's towers, but the half-hour walk across it really gives you time to take in its enormous size and absorb the views of the city behind you and the headlands of Northern California straight ahead. Pause at the midway point and consider the seven or so suicides a month who choose this spot, 260ft up, as their jumping-off spot. Monitors of such events speculate that victims always face the city before they leap. In 1995, when the suicide toll from the bridge had reached almost 1000, police kept the figures quiet to avoid a rush of would-be suicides going for the dubious distinction of being the thousandth person to leap.Perhaps the best-loved symbol of San Francisco, in 1987 the Golden Gate proved an auspicious place for a sunrise party when crowds gathered to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. Some quarter of a million people turned up (a third of the city's entire。

The British Museum is the biggest one in the world. Inside, you feel smaller than usual. There are about a hundred things in the museum to see. Clocks which have been telling the time for six hundred years, Roman money, some of the earliest books in the world, including Shakespeare's own works...The British Museum was founded nearly 300 years ago by a doctor, Sir Hans Sloane. The man liked to collect such things as books, drawings, clothes, money, animals, flowers, and also hoped that his things would be well kept and so visited by people after his death. His wish came true, and the museum opened in 1759, six years after Sir Hans Sloane died.Later, more old things arrived at the museum, more books, old and new, came to it, and more people wanted to visit it. All this made Pauizzi design the famous round Reading Room. There was something unusual in the room. Cool air came up through small holes in the tables. Hot air flowing under the floor kept readers' feet warm. Since its opening, many famous men have written and studied there. And the library is growing faster and faster—there are four kilometres of new shelves each year! The British Museum has changed a lot. It is now open every day of the year, except for three holidays. Entrance is free. There are lots ofspecial exhibitions and every day there are different films and talks, some of them for children. Small machines tell you about the museum and as you walk around it, you can look and listen at the same time. So if you are one of the British Museum's two million visitors this year, don't try to see it all too quickly. There is a lifetime of looking in the British Museum.B. Lankao’sfindings highlight ways in which city-residents are particularly vulnerable, and suggest policy interventions that could offer immediate and longer-term 7 benefits .The locations and dense construction patterns of cities often place their populations at greater risk for natural disasters. Potential 8threats associated with climate include storm surges and prolonged hot weather. Storm surges can flood coastal areas and prolonged hot weather can heat 9 heavily paved cities more than surrounding areas .The impacts of such natural events can be more serious in an urban environment .For example ,a prolonged heat wave can increase existing levels of air pollution ,causing widespread health problems .Poorer neighborhoods that may 10lack basic facilities such as drinking water or a dependable network of roads ,are especially vulnerable to natural disasters .Many residents in poorer countries live in substandard housing 11 without access to reliable drinking water ,roads and basic services.Local governments, 12therefore ,should take measures to protect theirreside nts.”Unfortunately ,they tend to move towards rhetoric 13rather than meaningful responses, Romero Lankao writes, ” They don’t impose construction standards that could reduce heating and air conditioning needs. They don't emphasize mass transit and reduce 14automobile use. In fact, many local governments are taking ahands —off approach.” Thus, she urges them to change their 15 idle policies and to take strong steps to prevent the harmful effects of climate change on cities.第十篇 Chicken Soup for the SoulChicken Soup for the Soul :Comfort Food Fights Loneliness Mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, may be bad for your arteries . but according to a study in Psychological Science, they’re good for your heart and emotions .The study focuses on “comfort food” and how it makes people feel . "For me personally ,food has always played a big role in my family,” says Jordan Troisi, a graduate student at the University of Buffalo, and lead author on the study .The study came out of the research program of his co —author Shira Gabriel .It has looked at non-human things that may affect human emotions .Some people reduce loneliness by bonding with their favorite TV show, building virtual relationships with a pop song singer or looking at pictures of loved ones .Troisi and Gabriel wondered if comfort food could have the same effect by making people think of their nearest and dearest. In one experiment, in order to make participants feel lonely, the researchers had them write for six minutes about a fight with someone close to them .Others were given an emotionally neutral writing assignment. Then, some people in each group wrote about the experience of eating a comfort food and others wrote about eating a new food . Finally ,the researchers had participants complete questions about their levels of loneliness . Writing about a fight with a close person made people feel lonely .But people who were generally secure in their relationships would feel less lonely by writing about a comfort food ."We have found that comfort foods are consistently associated with those close to us ."says Troisi ."Thinking about or consuming these foods later then serves as a reminder of those close others ."In their essays on comfort food, many people wrote about the experience of eating food with family and friends. In another experiment, eating chicken soup in the lab made people think more about relationships, but only if they considered chicken soup to be a comfort food .This was a question they had been asked long before the experiment, along with many other questions, so they wouldn’t remember it. Throughout everyone’s daily lives they experience stress, often associated with our connections with others," Troisi says ."Comfort food Can be an easy remedy for loneliness .★*第十二篇 Free Statins With Fast Food Could Neutralize Heart Risk 快餐加免费降胆固醇药物可以降低罹患心脏病的风险Fast food outlets could provide statin drugs free of 1charge so that customers can reduce the heart disease dangers of fatty food, researchers at Imperial CollegeLondon 2suggest in a new study .Statins reduce the 3amount of unhealthy ”LDL” cholesterol in the blood. A wealth of trial data has proven them to be highly effective at lowering a person’s heart attack 4risk . In a paper published in the American Journal of Cardiology ,Dr Darrel Francis and colleagues calculate that the reduction in heart attack risk offered by a statin is 5enough to offset the increase in heart attack risk from 6eating a cheeseburger and drinking a milkshake .Dr Francis ,from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London ,who is the senior author of the study, said:”Statins don’t cut out a11 of the 7unhealthy effects of cheeseburgers and French fries .It’s better to avoid fatty food altogether .But we’ve worked out t hat in terms of your 8possobility of having a heart attack. Taking a statin can reduce your risk to more or less thesame 9degree as a fast food meal increases it.”“It’s ironic that people are free to take as many unhealthv condiments in fast food outlets as they 10like , but statins, which are beneficial to heart health, have to be prescribed. It makes sense to make risk-reducing statins available just as easily as the unhealthy condiments that are 11provided free of charge .It would cost less than 5 pence per 12customer ---not much different to a sachet of sugar.” Dr Francis said .When people engage in risky behaviours like driving or smoking, they’re encouraged to take 13measures that lower their risk, 1ike 14wearing a seatbelt or choosing cigarettes with filters. Taking astatin is a rational way of 15lowering some of the risks of eating a fatty meal .——————————————第一页第八篇 Why India Needs Its Dying Vultures 印度为什么需要濒临灭亡的秃鹰The vultures ···and difficult exercise ————————————————第二页第十一篇 Climate Change Poses Major Risks for Unprepared Cities 气候变化给不备城市带来重大风险A new examination ···change on cities.————————————————第三页第十篇 Chicken Soup for the Soul Chicken Soup for ···remedy for loneliness .——————————————第四页★*第十二篇 Free Statins With Fast Food Could Neutralize Heart Risk 快餐加免费降胆固醇药物可以降低罹患心脏病的风险 Fast food outlets could ···eating a fatty meal .—————————————第五页。
小学英语口语教材:海湾地区的大桥
小学英语口语教材:海湾地区的大桥The Golden Gate Bridge is perhaps the most famous bridge in the world. It is famous for its size, location, and color. It is nearly 9,000 feet long, and above water its towers are 740 feet tall. Its unique color is officially known as "orange vermillion." Thousands of ships sail under it every year, and believe it or not, the U.S. Navy originally wanted it to be painted black and yellow so it would be easy to see.
People often think the Golden Gate Bridge is named after the color of its paint. In actuality, the bridge is named for the color of the water in the bay. On a clear day, when the sun sets at dusk, the water turns from blue to gold, due to light from the sun reflecting off the water. When this happens, the entire inlet, or "gate" of water, becomes golden.人们通常认为金门大桥是由颜色而命名的。

接下来是小编为大家整理的关于西湖英语导游词,方便大家阅读与鉴赏!西湖英语导游词1Dear tourists, good morning. My name is Zhu Minjia. You can call me Zhu Dao. Welcome to the "paradise on earth" West Lake. We are about to start a tour of the West Lake. We are going to visit Gushan, Duanqiao and three pools reflecting the moon. I wish you a happy trip! Please don't litter and scribble. The West Lake is so beautiful, of course, there are many wonderful legends. It is said that many years ago, there were jade dragons and golden phoenixes in the sky. They found a piece of jade on the fairy island next to the Milky way. After they pecked together for many years, the jade turned into a shining pearl. Where the light of the Pearl shines, the trees will be evergreen and the flowers will bloom. Later, the news spread to the heavenly palace, and the queen mother sent heavenly soldiers to take the jewels away. Yulong and Jinfeng rush to Suozhu. When the queen mother refuses, they fight. When the queen mother was knocked down and her hands were loosened, the jade fell into the world and became the Golden West Lake, while the jade dragon and the Golden Phoenix became Fenghuang Mountain and Yuhuang mountain to guard the West Lake.Look East, it's a broken bridge! It is the most famous bridge in the West Lake. It's very interesting: the broken bridge is the dividing point between Beili lake and Waihu lake. When the snowis clear, the sunny side of the bridge has been frozen, while the shady side of the bridge is still covered with snow. From a distance, the bridge seems to be broken, so "broken bridge" gets its name. Now please look ahead. This is "three pools reflecting the moon", also known as "Xiaoying state". This is a lake garden with "island in the lake, Lake in the island". The island is in the shape of "Tian", connecting Liuti in the East and West, and a curved bridge is built in the north and south. On both sides of the curved bridge, large areas of red, white and colorful water lilies are planted.Next, please visit the island. Please see: the three towers stand on the lake, with a height of 2 meters. The body of the tower is spherical, with 5 small round holes arranged. The top of the tower is gourd shaped, with beautiful shape. During the Mid Autumn Festival, when the bright moon is in the sky, people light candles in the tower and cover their mouths with tissue paper to make the candle light transparent. At this time, "tower shadow, moon shadow, cloud shadow" dissolved into a piece. Candlelight, moonlight and lake light complement each other. In the refraction of light, the lights of the three towers are projected on the water through 15 circular holes. There are a total of 30 small moons. Plus one in the sky and one in the lake, there are 32 small moons. It presents the beautiful scenery of "one moon in the sky, three shadows in the lake". It's really: "a lake of golden water wants to dissolve autumn"!Go ahead, there is a famous mountain by the West Lake! Why is it called "Gushan"? This is because the mountain is very beautiful in history and has been occupied by the emperor, so it is called "Gushan".The West Lake is a poem, a painting, a charming girl. "Recalling Jiangnan, Hangzhou is the most beautiful. Looking for Guizi in the mountain temple in the middle of the month, looking at the tide on the pillow of the County Pavilion. When is it more likely to revisit? " This is Bai Juyi's eternal masterpiece of praising the West Lake and leaving endless aftertaste for future generations!Dear friends, we are coming to the end of this trip to the West Lake. The three feet of the censer are the famous three pools in front of the moon.Well, this is the end of the tour of the West Lake. I hope you can get together in the West Lake again! Next time, I will continue to be your tour guide! bye.西湖英语导游词4Dear tourists, Hello everyone! You must have heard the famous saying "there is heaven above and Suzhou and Hangzhou below". Yes, it describes the beautiful Hangzhou West Lake, the destination we are going to arrive at. I'm your tour guide in Hangzhou. My name is Chen. Please call me director Chen. Now we all come to the first of the ten sceneries of the West Lake - spring dawn on the Su dike. Su dike is three kilometers long. It was built by Su Dongpo, a poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, when he was the governor of Hangzhou. He used the excavated mud to harness the West Lake. So it is named "Su Di". In early spring, walking along the Long Lake embankment in the light smoke and mist, the willows are floating ten miles away, and the red peaches are open with dew. The scenery is really charming and charming. When the spring rain is falling, you can see the West Lake through niaonaliusi, but the mist is diffuse, and the scenery is gradually fading. The scenery is even more fantastic and attractive. It is known as "Liuqiao Yanliu". "The water is bright and sunny, and the mountains are empty and rainy. If you want to compare the West Lake with the West Lake, it's always appropriate to wear light and heavy makeup." The great poet creatively compared the West Lake to the beauty of ancient China, so the West Lake has another nickname of "Xizi Lake". Do you see the bridge in front? It was called Baoyou bridge in Song Dynasty and Duanjia bridge in Yuan Dynasty. It used to be an old stone bridge with moss. Although the bridge we see now is a very common stone arch bridge, its name is connected with the storyof Xu Xian and Bai Niangzi in the legend of white snake, so it has become the most famous bridge in the West Lake. The broken bridge and the snow is a rare sight of the West Lake. "The West Lake is better than the rain lake, the rain lake is better than the Moon Lake, and the Moon Lake is better than the snow lake.". Speaking of this, I see that some friends have been observing carefully. Maybe you will immediately ask: this bridge is not broken at all. Why should it be named "broken bridge"? Let me answer this question. The broken bridge is one of the ten famous sceneries of the West Lake. Because the broken bridge is located on the back of the city and facing the mountain, it is located at the water dividing point of Beili lake and Waihu lake. It has a wide field of vision and is the best place to enjoy the snow scenery of the West Lake in winter. When the snow is clear, the sunny side of the bridge has been frozen and snowed, while the shady side of the bridge is still covered with snow. From a distance, the bridge seems to be broken but not broken, so the name of "broken bridge and residual snow" comes from it. In addition, the broken bridge is the end of the white dyke, and the white dyke from the autumn moon of Pinghu is interrupted here. At this point, perhaps you already understand that it is "dike broken bridge constantly". Dear friends, the scenery along the West Lake in Hangzhou is introduced here, and then we go to see the three islands in the lake.First of all, let's take a look at the largest island in Hangzhou West Lake, "Santan Yinyue", also known as xiaoyingzhou. This is a lake garden with "island in the lake, Lake in the island".Next, please follow me to visit the island. The essence of Three Ponds Mirroring the Moon is the three stone pagodas on the south side of the island. Please see: the three towers standon the lake. The height of the tower is 2 meters. The body of the tower is spherical, with 5 small round holes arranged. The top of the tower is gourd shaped, with beautiful shape. Every moonlit night, especially in the Mid Autumn Festival, when the bright moon is in the sky, people light candles inside the tower and cover their mouths with tissue paper to make the candle light transparent. At this time, the "tower shadow, cloud shadow and moon shadow" dissolve into one piece, and the "candle light, moonlight and lake light" complement each other. In the refraction of light, the lights of the three towers are projected on the water through 15 circular holes, with a total of 30 moons, plus 1 in the water in the morning The lake can reflect 32 small moons, presenting the beautiful scenery of "one moon in the sky, three shadows in the lake". It's really "a lake of golden water to dissolve autumn", which is full of poetic and picturesque."When I remember Jiangnan, I remember Hangzhou most. Looking for Guizi in the mountain temple in the middle of the month, looking at the tide on the pillow of the County Pavilion. When will you visit again? "This is the eternal masterpiece of Bai Juyi's great poet to praise the West Lake in Hangzhou. Dear friends, when we are about to finish our trip to the West Lake in Hangzhou, do you have the same feeling? I hope we will meet again later, enjoy Guizi in manjuelong and watch the tide on Qiantang River, so that the mountains and waters of the West Lake in Hangzhou will always retain your good memories.西湖英语导游词5Hello, everyone. My name is Lu. You can call me Lu Dao. I will show you around Hangzhou West Lake. Please don't litter and keep your valuables. Have a good trip! Before coming to the West Lake, I believe many tourists haveheard the saying "there is heaven on the top and Suzhou and Hangzhou on the bottom". In fact, the analogy between Hangzhou and the paradise of adults has a lot to do with the West Lake. The beautiful scenery of West Lake in Hangzhou makes many poets forget to return. Bai Juyi's "can't throw Hangzhou, half of it is this lake.". That's a lot of proof. Please keep up with the team and be ready to witness the West Lake in Hangzhou!Hangzhou West Lake is located in the center of Hangzhou. It was called West Lake in Song Dynasty. The West Lake is 3.2 kilometers long from north to South and 2.8 kilometers wide from east to west, covering an area of 5.68 square kilometers. The most distinctive feature here is "ten sceneries of West Lake". The autumn moon of Pinghu is located at the west end of Baidi, which is simple and elegant. You can feel the vastness of the West Lake in the tranquility by climbing the stairs and overlooking the autumn moon. You can wash your restless state of mind and make people feel that the scenery is neutral in the city, the water is shaking in the scenery, and people are swimming in the painting. No matter what angle you stand, you can see a plain and elegant painting of Jiangnan. Looking at the autumn moon in Pinghu, you can see the building, the shore and the water. In the Southern Song Dynasty, sun Rui wrote that "the moon is cold and the spring does not flow, where to go boating" in his poem; in the Ming Dynasty, Hong zhanzu also wrote that "the autumn GE people climb the waves and wrinkle, and the fairyland pavilions and the dust in the mirror" all praise the autumn beauty of Pinghu. The autumn moon of Pinghu Lake is called the lake, reflecting the surrounding landscape and trees. It is especially quiet. It's like a wonderful picture. Let us have to admire theuncanny workmanship of nature, occasionally a boat across, we can not help complaining: "the boat cut our painting!"The West Lake is a poem, a painting and a charming girl. "When I remember Jiangnan, I remember Hangzhou most. Looking for Guizi in the mountain temple in the middle of the month, looking at the tide on the pillow of the County Pavilion. When is it more likely to revisit? " Bai Juyi's poem is a masterpiece to praise the West Lake. Dear tourists, the happy one-day tour of West Lake has ended. Thank you for your cooperation. Did you have a good time? I hope the mountains and waters of the West Lake will stay in your good memories forever.西湖英语导游词。

金门大桥的英文作文英文:Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in San Francisco, California. It is a suspension bridgethat spans across the Golden Gate Strait, connecting San Francisco and Marin County. The bridge was completed in 1937 and was the longest suspension bridge in the world at that time. The bridge is painted in an orange-red color, which is officially called "International Orange". It is a beautiful sight to see the bridge in the morning when the sun rises and at night when the lights are turned on. The bridge is also famous for its fog, which often blankets the area and creates a mystical atmosphere. One interesting fact about the Golden Gate Bridge is that it is constantly being painted. The painting process takes about 15 years to complete, and once it is finished, the painters start all over again. This is because the salt air and fog cause the paint to deteriorate quickly.Another interesting fact is that the bridge is apopular spot for suicide attempts. In order to prevent this, there are phones placed along the bridge that connectdirectly to a crisis hotline.Overall, the Golden Gate Bridge is a must-seeattraction when visiting San Francisco.
