When the class began, he picked up a very large and empty jar and went on to fill it with tennis balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The teacher then picked up a box of small pebbles(鹅卵石) and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles fell into the open areas between the tennis balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.The teacher next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded(回应) with “Yes”. The teacher then took two cans of beer from under the table and poured the beer into the jar, filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.“Now, I want you to know that this jar stands for your life. The tennis balls are the important things—your family, your partner, your children, your health, your friends, and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other big things that matter—like your job, your house and your car.”“The sand is everything else—the small things.” He continued, “If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the tennis balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small things, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are important to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checks. Take your partner out to dinner. They don't store food like a camel(骆驼) or a squirrel. So how did we end up using a pig as the style of a bank? Believe it not, it happened by mistake.During the fifteenth century, metal was very expensive. Dishes and pots were made of a type of inexpensive orange clay(黏士) called pygg, which was pronounced just like pig. At that time, there weren't banks we have today, so people would store their money at home. When people had extra coins to save, they would place them in clay jars or pots. Since the type of clay was called pygg, people referred to the jars as pygg banks. After a few hundred years, people forgot that the word pygg referred to the clay the banks were made from. The English language was also changing and the word pig was more commonly used. So in the nineteenth century, when English potters began to get requests for piggy banks, they assumed their customers were asking for banks in the shape of pigs, not banks made from pygg.根据短文内容填空,每空1词。

He went to school in St Albans—a small city near London. Although he did well, he was never top of his class. After leaving school, Hawking went first to Oxford University where he studied physics, then he went to Cambridge University where he studied cosmology. As he himself admits (承认), he didn't work hard. He was a very lazy student, and did very little work. However, he still got good marks. It was at the age of 20 that Hawking first noticed something was wrong with him. He started to bump into things. When he visited his family at Christmas time, his mother was so worried that she made him see a doctor. Hawking was sent to hospital for tests. Finally, the result came back. Hawking had motor neurone disease, an incurable illness which would make him unable to speak, breathe(呼吸)or move without the help of a machine. Doctors said they had no way to help him. He would die before he was 23.At first, Hawking became very depressed (抑郁). After a while, though, he began to see his life in a different way. As he later wrote, "Before my illness was diagnosed (诊断), I had been very bored withlife. There had not seemed to be anything worth doing. But shortly after I came out of hospital, I suddenly realized that there were a lot of worthwhile things I could do." Hawking married, found a job at Cambridge University, and had three children. He also went on to do some of the most important scientific research.Today, Hawking still works at Cambridge University as a professor. He strongly believes that his story shows that nobody should lose hope. "Life is not fair," he once said. "You just have to do the best you can in your own situation."根据短文,选择正确答案。
