They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious testtakers.Sian Beilock says, “They start worrying about the consequences. They might even start worrying about whether this exam is going to prevent them from getting into the college they want. And when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources. I talk about them as their cognitive(认知的)horsepower that they could otherwise be using to focus on the exam.”Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious testtakers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test. The researchers tested the idea on a group of 20 anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test. The researchers added to the pressure. They told the students that those who did well on the second test would get money. They also told them that their performance would affect other students as part of a team effort.Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12 percent worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of five percent.Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test.Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B-for those who did not.The research shows that for students who are highly testanxious, who'd done the writing intervention(排解), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. Those students most likely to worry were performing just as well as their classmates who don't normally get nervous in these testing situations. But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam or presentation? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.11.The purpose of the passage is ________.A. to build the confidence of the highly anxious testtakersB. to introduce a research about the anxious testtakersC. to improve the performance of the testtakersD. to tell something about the highly anxious testtakers12.The underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refers to________.A. attention and memory resourcesB. worries about the consequencesC. concerns about the examD. cognitive horsepower13.According to the research, the solution to the test anxiety is to________.A. sit quietly before the examB. prepare well before the testC. set their mind on happy memoriesD. write about their feelings before the test14.The result of the research suggests that ________.A. proper amount of burden may turn out to be a good thingB. avoiding facing the problem may contribute to relaxationC. facing the fears bravely may help one to achieve moreD. taking no action before difficulty may result in successBSeen from space the Earth is covered in a blue mantle. It is a planet on which the continents are dwarfed(相形见绌)by the oceans surrounding them and the vastness of the marine area.An astonishing 80 percent of all the life on Earth is to be found hidden beneath the waves and this vast global ocean pulses around our world driving the natural forces which keep life on our planet. The oceans provide necessary sources of protein, energy, minerals and other products of use the world over and the rolling of the sea across the planet creates over half our oxygen, drives weather systems and natural flows of energy and nutrients around the world, transports water masses many times greater than all the rivers on land combined and keeps the Earth habitable.Without the global ocean there would be no life on Earth. It is seriously worrying, then, that we are damaging the oceans on a scale that is unimaginable to most people. We now know that human activity can have serious influences on the vital forces governing our planet. We have fundamentally changed our global climate and are just beginning to understand the consequences of that. As yet largely unseen, but just as serious, are the influences we are having on the oceans. A healthy ocean has diverse ecosystems and strong and healthy habitats. The actual state of our oceans is a far cry from this natural level.A large quantity of human pressures are being exerted both directly and indirectly on ocean ecosystems the world over. Consequently ecosystems are collapsing as marine species are driven towards extinction and ocean habitats are destroyed. With the decrease and removement of their diversity, ocean ecosystems are losing their natural recovery.15.The 2nd and the 3rd paragraphs are given mainly to describe________.A.what the oceans look likeB.what the oceans are made up ofC.what lives in the oceansD.what functions the oceans have16.The oceans provide all the following except ________.A. various marine creaturesB. rich living resourcesC. all natural forcesD. comfortable habitats for man17.Man has not yet realized that ________.A.he has done harm to the oceansB.he has done harm to the planetC.he has benefited from the oceansD.he has benefited from the planet18.The best title for this passage should be ________.A. Unit 2 Poems课时作业Ⅰ.阅读A(2020·甘肃省天水一中第一学期第一次考试)I start every summer with the best of intentions: to attack one big book from the past, a classic that I was supposed to have read when young and ambitious. Often the pairings of books and settings have been purely accidental: “Moby Dick” on a threeday crosscountry train trip; “The Magic Mountain” in a New England beachside cottage with no locks on the doors, no telephones or televisions in the rooms, and little to do beyond row on the salt pond. Attempting “The Man Without Qualities” on a return to Hawaii, my native state, however, was less fruitful: I made it through one and a quarter volumes (册), then decided that I'd got the point and went swimming instead. But this summer I find myself at a loss. I'm not quite interested in Balzac, say, or “Tristram Shandy”. There's always “War and Peace”, which I've covered some distance several times, only to get_bogged_down in the “War” part, set it aside for a while, and realize that I have to start over from the beginning again, having forgotten everyone's name and social rank. How appealing to simply fall back on a favorite—once more into “The Waves” or “Justine,” which feels almost like cheating, too exciting and too much fun to properly belong in serious literature. And then there's Stendhal's “The Red and the Black”, which happens to be the name of my favorite cocktail (鸡尾酒) of the summer, created by Michael Cecconi at Savoy and Back Forty. It is easy to drink, and knocking back three or four seems like such a delightful idea. Cecconi's theo ry: “I take whatever's fresh at the green market and turn it into liquid.” The result is a pure shot of afternoon in the park, making one feel cheerful and peaceful all at once, lying on uncut grass with eyes shut, sun beating through the lids ...篇章导读:本文是一篇记叙文。

Millions of people visit Yosemite National Park every year to see the tall waterfalls and mountains. The mountains are a splendid sight when viewed from the valley floor.Lots of stores, hotels, and restaurants are needed to handle the crowds. Also, water, roads, and other service systems are part of theinfrastructure(基础设施)that must be maintained.Unfortunately, these systems are starting to break down. It's not just in Yosemite but in national parks around the nation.Yosemite is thirty years old according to Dennis Calvin,a National Park Service worker. The park is not only old but worn out.Two or three times as many visitors come every year. That is too many visitors for the park to deal with.Four years ago a storm washed out a water pipeline in the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service had to send water trucks to provide water for the st month pipes almost broke again and roads had to be closed for a while. Why hasn't the National Park Service kept up the park repairs? There is a lack of money. The United States has 378 monuments, parks, and wilderness areas.Between three and four billion dollars are needed for repairs.Yosemite is one national park that does have money for repairs. It has two hundred million dollars but cannot spend it any way it chooses. When the park workers started widening the road, they were forced to stop by the Sierra Club. The club claimed that the road work was damaging the Merced River that runs through the park.A Sierra Club lawyer, Julia Olson, feels that the infrastructure needs to be moved out of Yosemite. That way less pressure will be put on the already crowded park.1.According to the text, the mountains in Yosemite look splendid when they are appreciated from ________.A.the bottom of the valleysB.the top of the mountainsC.the side of the mountainsD.the edge of the valleys2.National parks like Yosemite in the U.S.find it increasingly difficult to meet the need of visitors because ________.A.their transport management needs improvingB.they spend too much on their service systemsC.their service systems frequently go out of orderD.they need help from environmental organizations3.The main problem of Yosemite National Park is its ________.A.rundown water pipesB.over crowdednessC.lack of moneyD.narrow roads4.According to the text, the Sierra Club is most likely to be ________.A.an environmental groupB.an information centerC.a travel serviceD.a law firm【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

Others had female identities. Some male jurors were angry about the judgment. When this happened, the students reacted by doubting their own decisions about the case.Confidence in their responses on the judgment “dropped obviously,”said the study. But,when female jurors seemed angry, the student participants“became obviously more confident in their original judgments,”the study found. The study could have wider importance.“Our results have implications(启示)for any woman who is trying to have influence on a decision in their workplace and everyday lives,”said Salerno. She added that in a political debate,a female candidate might have less influence if she shows anger.1.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Powerful Men Must Be Those Who Often Get AngryB.Women,be Careful Not to Turn Angry EasilyC.Angry Men Win Influence While Angry Women LoseD.Angry Women Are Not Unfit for Leaders While Men Are2.The underlined word“rated”in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by“________.”A.forgaveB.ignoredC.regardedD.praised3.How did the students react to the female jurors' anger with their judgments?A.They more firmly stuck to their judgments.B.They began to doubt about their judgments.C.They gave up their judgments willingly.D.They had to change their judgments.4.If a woman politician wants to have more influence, she'd better________.A.always keep smilingB.avoid losing her temperC.become angryD.give orders firmly参考答案: 1.C; 2.C; 3.A; 4.B解析: 1.[主旨大意题。

Unit 2 PoemsⅠ.阅读理解A体裁:说明文话题:文学词数:312 时间:6′Today we talk about proverbs.A proverb is a short,well-known saying that expresses a common truth or belief.Proverbs are found in most cultures and are often very old.In American history,Benjamin Franklin was famous for his proverbs. He lived in the 1700s and was a leader of the American Revolution against English rule.He was also a scientist, inventor and writer.Franklin published a book called “Poor Richard's Almanac.” He included many proverbs he had heard or created. Some of them are still used today, like:“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”Here are other examples of proverbs that Americans use.The first ones are about love. Some people say,“All is fair in love and war.” T hey mean that anything you do in a relationship or in battle is acceptable.Another proverb about love is,“Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” This means you love someone even more when he or she is far away. But other people say,“Out of sight, out of mind.” You may not even think about that person when he or she is not with you.Which of these proverbs do you think is most true?Another proverb says “Love is blind.” In other words, when you are in love with someone, you may refuse to see anything bad about that person. Some people are only interested in having a relationship with someone who is very good-looking.You might tell them that “Beauty is only skin deep”. Your girlfriend may be lovely to look at,but she may also have some bad qualities.Or your boyfriend is a wonderful person, but not good-looking.So what a person looks like is not really important.Sadly,we have no more time for this program. So we must say,“All good things must come to an end.”【语篇解读】谚语是精炼的语言。

【世纪金榜】2021年高考英语大一轮温习 Unit 2 Poems课时作业新人教版选修6 Ⅰ. 阅读明白得AMention the terms Italian Culture and Renaissance Art and one is immediately reminded of the mysterious smile of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. The renaissance period had a deep effect on European culture development. Having its beginnings in Italy, by the 16th century, it had spread to the rest of Europe. Its influence was felt in different fields such as philosophy, literature, religion, science, politics, and, of course, art. The scholars of the renaissance period applied the humanist method in every field of study, and wanted human emotion and realism in art.Renaissance scholars studied the ancient Latin and Greek texts, searching the monastic(修道院的)libraries of Europe for works of ancient times that had become obscure, in their hunt for improving and perfecting their worldly knowledge. This was completely different from the religion that Christianity(基督教)stressed. However, that does not mean that they refused Christianity. In fact, much of the greatest works of the renaissance period was devoted to it, with the church supporting a lot of the works of renaissance art. However, there were slight changes in the manner in which the scholars began to treat religion, which affected the cultural life of the society, which in turn influenced the artists of that period and therefore was reflected in their art.In Raphael’s School of Athens, for example, some well-known people were described as classical scholars, with Leonardo da Vinci being given as much importance as Plato in his time. Giotto di Bondone, 1267—1337, a Florentine, who is regarded as the greatest Italian painterjust earlier than the renaissance period, is thought to be the first artist who treated a painting as a window into space. However, it was only after the writings of Filippo Brunelleschi, 1377—1446, who is considered the first great builder of the Italian Renaissance, that perspective was formally accepted as an artistic technique.【文章大意】文章介绍了文艺振兴的发源地意大利在那时的背景下的文化特色和相关艺术家在那个时期的作用。

核心素养测评二十七选修6Unit 2Poems(限时35分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解AI began writing poems fifteen years ago while I was in college. One day I was in the library, working on a term paper, when I came across a book of contemporary poetry. I don’t remember the title of the book or any of the titles of the poems except one: Frankenstein’s Daughter. The poem was wild, almost rude, and nothing like the rhyme-and-meter poetry I had read in high school. I had always thought that poetry was flowery writing about sunsets and walks on the beach, but that library book contained direct and sometimes shocking poetry about dogs, junked cars, rundown houses, and TVs. I checked the book out, curious to read more.Soon afterward, I started filling a notebook with my own poems. At first I was scared, partly because my poetry teacher, to whom this book is written for, was a serious and strict man who could see the errors in my poems. Also, I realized the seriousness of my devotion. I gave up geography to study poetry, which a good many friends said offered no future.I ignored them because I liked working with words, using them toreconstruct the past, which has always been a source of poetry for me.When I first studied poetry, I was single-minded. I woke to poetry and went to bed with poetry. I memorized poems, read English poets because I was told they would help shape my poems, and read classical Chinese poetry because I was told that it would add clarity to my work. But I was most taken by the Spanish and Latin American poets, particularly Pablo Neruda. My favorites of his were the odes—long, short-lined poems celebrating common things like tomatoes, socks and scissors. I felt joyful when I read these odes, and when I began to write my own poems, I tried to remain faithful to the common things of my childhood—dogs, alleys (小巷), my baseball mitts (手套) and the fruit of the valley, especially the orange. I wanted to give these things life, to write so well that my poems would express their beauty.I also admired our own country’s poetry. I saw that our poets often wrote about places where they grew up or places that impressed them deeply. James Wright wrote about Ohio and West Virginia, Philip Levine about Detroit, Gary Snyder about the Sierra Nevadas and about Japan, where for years he studied Zen Buddhism (禅宗佛教). I decided to write about the San Joaquin Valley, where my hometown, Fresno, is located. Some of my poems are absolute observations and images of nature — the orange yards, the Kings River, the Sequoias (红杉). I fell in love with the valley, both its ugliness and its beauty, and quietly wrote poems about it to share with others.【文章大意】本文是一篇记叙文。

The museum has been created by transforming a disused phone box. The attraction in Warley Town only has enough room for one visitor at a time. Despite the limitations of space, it features etched (风化的) glass, old photographs and a selection of personal items from the local people that tell the history of the village. Visitors can explore the museum and learn about the history and culture of the village. The phone box was redesigned by members of Warley Community Association (WCA). After researching the uses of other phone boxes, including book exchanges and cafes, the group decided to create the museum. The work and planning were carried out by Mrs. Bailey, her carpenter husband Doug Bailey, and Warley artists Paul and Chris Czainski. And the museum was unveiled (揭牌)by mayor Howard Blagbrough. Kathryn Gallagher from WCA, said,“We just started talking a bout what we could do with the phone box and came up with the idea. Many people are excited to come and look at it.”The theme is currently local history, but the group plans to make changes every three months. WCA has also submitted an application for the museum to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records.Eliana Bailey, WCA chairwoman, said:“We've had a positive response. People thought it was amazing. When they saw the inside of the museum they could not believe it. It's so great to show the history and culture of the village.”【文章大意】这是一篇说明文。

Unit 2 PoemsⅠ.阅读理解A[2020·四川省绵阳市第二次诊断]I graduated in 1941 and of course got caught in the war. In 1945 I was out, twentyone years old, a soldier though 35 bombing missions, and at the University of Washington taking creative writing courses, something I'd looked forward to all through the Air Force.I'd started writing when I was nine and writing seemed to be the only thing I'd ever be able or want to do. My teacher was a new man named Grant Redford, a very good short story writing teacher but a sad man. He was from Montana and had been connected with the old Rocky Mountain Review. I think it became the Western Review but I'm not sure and I don't bother to look it up. I'm afraid I was never much of a student for Redford. My stories were hopelessly selfin dulgent (任性的), on and on about my personal problems, without form, without development, and without even any good writing. However, I did write humor in those days and had no trouble getting it published in the campus magazine, though I hate to see it now. Mostly my writing was used to get my own attention, to satisfy a terrible personal interest in selfadmiration, and it wasn't until I concentrated all my efforts on poems that I was to realize the only real reward of writing, that special way you feel just when you've done something you like. That's far more satisfying than seeing your name in print, good reviews, praise or applause after a reading. And more lasting.1.What do we know about the author's childhood?A.The author was a good student of his teacher.B.The author was crazy about writing.C.The author was good at telling short stories.D.The author felt a longing to be a pilot.2.How was his writing career at the early stage?A.Productive. B.Successful.C.Struggling. D.Bright.3.Where did the author eventually find comfort in writing?A.Short stories. B.Poems.C.Humorous stories. D.Good reviews.B[2020·石家庄市重点高中高三毕业班摸底考试]Every year around the world, humans waste an estimated 1.3 billion tons of food. This happens even though many people go hungry. So some people have made it their life's work claiming food before it goes to waste and then giving it to people who are hungry. One of those people is Brett Myers. In 2011, Myers started Nourish Now, a food recovery and food bank in the U.S. state of Maryland. This nonprofit organization collects food and then gives it to the poor and organizations that support them.“Nourish Now is a food recoverybased food bank that recovers food from restaurants, catering companies, grocery stores, hotels, farms and more. And then donates that food directly to families in need, kids in need at local schools.”Each month, it recovers more than 20, 000 kilograms of food and serves 700 needy families, schools and social organizations. Every day, staff and volunteers repackage the donations and distribute them to recipients (接受者).A woman named Rhoda is one of the recipients. She describes the quality of the food delivered to her family by Nourish Now. “It consists of fresh food, fruits and vegetables. You will get bread. Sometimes you get dairy products such as yogurt or milk. And you will get some meat items also. And if you get lucky you might get cooked food, or prepared salads, and stuff like that.”The supplies can feed a family for five days. Each recipient is able to receive food every 30 days. And the packages are made to fit the dietary needs of each family.Besides families, the organization also donates small meals called snacks to several nearby schools and social organizations.Nourish Now has grown considerably since it opened. Brenda is one of them. Part of her job as a volunteer is to make sure that none of the food goes to waste.“In the morning, I make sure that all the things that came late yesterday get put away so that we use that last, and we used the things that came the day before first, so that we're always giving fresh food and we're not throwing out anything.”4.What do we know about Nourish Now?A.It donates money to the poor.B.It benefits from collecting food.C.It gets food from many places.D.It distributes food only to the poor.5.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A.Nourish Now. B.Food banks.C.The poor. D.Organizations.6.What does the author want to clarify with the example Rhoda in Paragraph 5?A.She can get food donations every five days.B.She isn't satisfied with the food supplied.C.Eating better can keep people healthier.D.The recovered food is fresh and rich.7.What is the best title for the text?A.A Group Uses Leftover Food to Feed the HungryB.The Poor Are Suffering from StarvationC.Nourish Now Calls on People to Save FoodD.People Should Take Care of the WeakⅡ.七选五[2020·昆明市高三复习诊断]How to Win Votes in a School ElectionIn many ways, school elections are just like elections anywhere else. __1__ You will also need to work hard to make sure people know who you are and why they should vote for you.●Decide what positio n to run for.__2__ Make sure you know what the position does, and what you will be able to do once you get there.
