Install the new badge by lining up the notch with the register mark on the clutch knob and press it into place.Your telescope is now set up and ready to align! Here’s how to quickly align your telescope for the fi rst time1.P ower the scope on and connect to its WiFi network from your phone or tablet. The WiFi network name will begin with “Celestron-XX”.Power LogoWifiLogo Power Switch 5VDC OutUSB Charge Port Power InputAux Accessory PortsY our NexStar Evolution generates its own WiFi network. Y ou do not need WiFi or cellular service to use the telescope.2. O pen SkyPortal, tap the scope icon, and tap “Connect and Align”. Follow the on-screen prompts and StarSense will automatically align your telescope.P lease note the following for the most reliable WiFi connection to the telescope: Areas with high WiFi traffi c, such as large star parties or crowded public spaces, can potentially pose diffi culties connecting to the telescope. Additionally, multiple smart devices and multiple WiFi telescopes in the same area can generate confl icting traffi c. Follow these tips to maintain the most robust connection to your telescope.1.I f you experience l ag or connection probl ems in areas with high WiFi traffi c–To minimize possible connection problems in high traffi c areas, select a viewing site with minimal WiFi traffi c. Numerous nearby devices with WiFi enabled can contribute to unwanted WiFi traffi c. Disabling WiFi in nearby devices can improve connectivity to your telescope. Alternatively, high traffi c areas may require the use of the included NexStar+ hand control instead of the SkyPortal app over WiFi.2. I f you experience confl icts when using multiple devices to control a telescope–If you have multiple smart devices, and have connected to the same WiFi telescope previously with them, both devices may unintentionally communicate with the telescope at the same time. For example, if you have previously used your smartphone to control the telescope and later use a tablet to control the same telescope, the smartphone may interfere with the telescope connection. We recommend “forgetting” the telescope WiFi network with any smart devices not currently in use.3. I f you experience confl icts when multiple WiFi telescopes are in the same area–If you are using multiple WiFi telescopes and have connected to them with your smart device previously, we recommend “forgetting” the other telescopes/devices not currently in use. This way, you won’t accidentally connect to the other telescopes/devices. This is especially useful at a star party where more than one WiFi telescope may be in range.StarSense is aligned, but there’s just one fi rst-time-only step before you’re ready to go: Calibrate the camera to the telescope.3. A fter the StarSense alignment is complete, select a bright star in SkyPortal by tapping it on the screen, then tap “GoTo”. If the star is not in the eyepiece’s fi eld of view, start by centering it in the StarPointer, then center it in the eyepiece. With the star centered in the eyepiece, tap Align, then tap Calibrate. Once the camera is calibrated, follow the prompts to start a new StarSense Auto alignment. You only need to do this the fi rst time you are usingStarSense with the telescope in SkyPortal. Congratulations! Y ou are now aligned andready to observe.Tap objects on your screen and select GoTo or search for a specifi c object in the search fi eld. To start, you can choose from the “Tonight’s Best” list in SkyPortal under the Search menu. Important Information About Your 8” EdgeHD Optical Tube AssemblyYour EdgeHD optical tube is optimized for both visual astronomy and astrophotography, delivering images free of coma or fi eld curvature across a large image circle. Start by using the supplied Star Diagonal and eyepieces to familiarize yourself with the telescope.Primary Mirror Clutch Knobs(for Astrophotography Only)The primary clutch knobs hold the mirror in place to prevent movement during a long exposure astroimage. Keep these loosened unless you are using a camera for long exposures. When using a camera, focus the telescope fi rst, then tighten the knobs.Warning: Do not turn the focus knob with the clutch knobs tightened. Anytime you refocus the telescope, loosen the clutch knobs.Optimum Camera DistanceThe 8” EdgeHD was designed to work with your camera at a specifi c distance from the end of the threads on the back of the scope to the camera’s sensor.Remove Visual BackCameraFocal PlaneAdapter Plate5.24”(133 mm)Edge HD 8”- Optimum Back Focus Distance If you are using a DSLR, the distance is already set correctlywhen you use these standard adapters available from Celestron:• T-ring for the make and model of your camera• T-adapter for 8” EdgeHDIf you are using an astronomical CCD camera, you must determine the necessary adapter length to the camera body. The total distance from the end of the adapter plate threads to the camera sensor shou ld be 133mm. This is the total required backfocus distance. Y our camera body to the imaging sensor will take up some of this backfocus distance. Your camera manufacturer will usually specify the camera backfocus distance. For example, if your camera’s backfocus distance is 55mm, then you will need 78mm of spacing to reach 133mm.Fastar Compatibility and Imaging at f/2CorrectorPlateSecondaryMirror MountHandleSecondarySecondaryMirrorRetaining RingY our 8” EdgeHD is equipped with a removable secondary mirror that allows you to convert your f/10 telescope into an f/2 imaging system using an optional lens accessory. This adds versatility to use the telescope at different focal ratios for astrophotography. Imaging at f/2 is favored for wide-angle deep sky imaging with short exposures, well suited to large, deep sky objects. Optional Focal ReducerA dedicated 0.7x Focal Reducer for the 8” EdgeHD is available from Celestron. This focal reducer maintains the flat-field and coma-free imaging performance specifically designed for this telescope.CollimationY our telescope is factory aligned and generally should not need collimation unless it is transported roughly. However, you should be aware of the eventual need to collimate your telescope to keep it operating at peak performance.1. U sing your included 13mm eyepiece (or a higher power eyepiece if you have one), point the telescope at a moderately bright star center it in the eyepiece.2. D efocus the star about 1 turn on the focus knob.3. I nspect the star pattern. When collimated, the pattern should look like a concentric doughnut. If the pattern is concentric, no adjustment is necessary.ENGLISH I78 I ENGLISH4. I f the star pattern is thin on one side, adjust the collimation so that the star moves towards the thin side, then adjust the position of the telescope to re-center the star. Repeat this until you achieve correct collimation.Secondary Mirror Collimation AdjustmentScrewsA defocused star where thesecondary shadow is not concentric to the star patternindicates the telescope requires collimation. The telescope is collimated if the defocused star pattern is concentric as shown. Two Year Limited WarrantyYour telescope comes with a two year limited warranty. The local and remote units can be connected together for a Point-to-Point or Point –to-Many connection through a network switch. Support for multiple local units requires a managed network switch.∙Supports HDTV resolutions to 1080p and computer resolutions to 1920x1200.∙Ideal solution for digital signage applications.∙Broadcast real-time HDMI video/audio to multiple display locations.∙Transmits an HDMI signal over one CAT5e/6 cable.∙Plug-and-Play installation allows receivers to find the transmitters automatically on the same subnet. (Network configuration may be required for managed network switch.)∙Web interface for changing IP addresses, firmware updates and resetting units to factory default settings.∙Easily expandable. Add remote units as you add monitors.∙Inexpensive CAT5e/6 cable replaces bulky video cables.∙Supports 10/100 Ethernet connection.∙Built in default EDID table.∙HDCP compliant.∙Support for multiple transmitters requires a managed network switch with VLAN/IGMP support. Standard LAN switches can only support one transmitter.o The managed switch must support port based IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, IGMP, and permit duplicate IP addresses across the VLAN domains.o Each VLAN acts as a separate HDMI Over IP Channel on the network.o Number of local and remote units that can be used is dependent on the backplane bandwidth of the switch.o Cascade managed switches up to 3 levels, allowing the farthest display to be located up to 1,000 feet away from the source device. Each receiver can be located up to 330 feet away.∙Uses M-JPEG technology to process image compression on a fixed bandwidth.o Note: at high resolutions, characters on PCs get noticeably fuzzy due to image compression and decompression process.Power SupplyThe ST-IPHD-LC comes with two power supplies, one for the Sender, one for the Receiver. The ST-IPHD-R-LC is a Receiver only and comes with a single power supply. The type of power supply provided depends on the model ordered, which determines the type of plug that will be included to connect to your power source.ST‐IPHD‐LC US NEMA 1‐15PST‐IPHD‐LCEU Europlug CEE 7/16ST‐IPHD‐LCUK UK BS1363ST‐IPHD‐LCAU AS/NZS 3112ST‐IPHD‐LCUNVxx US NEMA 1‐15P with country‐specific universal power plugadapterThe ST-IPHD-LC UNVxx will include a universal power plug suitable for the power connections found in the country the power supply was ordered for (xx).ZA South AfricaIT ItalyCH SwitzerlandIN IndiaUK United KingdomRU RussiaIL IsraelAU AustraliaEU EuropeDK DenmarkINSTALLATIONCable Connections1. Order the desired length of cables for your application.Note: Using HDMI cable lengths greater than 50 feet may result in unsatisfactory video quality or even no video at all depending upon the quality of the video source and display device used.2. Connect the cable and supplied power supply to the ST-IPHD-LC Sender.3. Connect the cable and supplied power supply to the ST-IPHD-LC Receiver.4. Connect up to 100 meters (328ft) of CAT5e/6 cable in the configuration you will use. Connect the Sender directly to the Receiver, or connect each of them to a LAN switch or router. Once the Sender and Receiver are properly connected and powered, they will sense each other and be ready to extend video. To split the video to more than one display, connect multiple receivers to the LAN switch. (See images below.) No special configuration of the extenders or the LAN switch is required.Multiple HDMI Source- One or More DisplaysFor an installation involving multiple HDMI sources and one or more displays, a managed network switch with VLAN/IGMP support will be required to control which Transmitter is sending HDMI to the Receivers. Connections will be made just as they were with a single-source installation.NOTE: Cisco 2960 Series switches do not support many-to-many configurations of ST-IPHD-LC .LimitationsBe aware that when connecting multiple Transmitters and Receivers to a configuration, they must all have the same version number on the back. If you have older Transmitters and/or Receivers ("V1.0" or "V1.1"), They will not work with Transmitters and/or Receivers with a different version number on them as they are built differently. At present, all units available from NTI have "V2.0" on the back. If your units are older and you require more "V2.0" Transmitters and Receivers in your configuration, contact your NTI product consultant for assistance.HOW TO ACCESS THE WEB INTERFACEIf for any reason you wish to access the configuration of the ST-IPHD-LC (to change the default IP address or update the firmware perhaps), will need to follow this procedure:1. Connecting the local or remote unit directly to a computer using CATx cable2. Temporarily set your computer's IP address to 192.168.168.xx (where xx is any number from 1 to 255 except for 55 or 56) to match the subnet of the extender.3. Open a web browser and enter in the URL address bar the extender’s factory default IP address: 192.168.168.55 (local) or 192.168.168.56 (remote). The following will be displayed:In the initial screen you will be presented with the current network settings of the ST-IPHD-LC.Change the IP AddressTo change the IP address of the extenders to match your network's subnet, simply change the value in the box for “IP address” and press apply.Be sure to write this number down. If you make a mistake and forget the number you entered, you will not be able to reopen this interface to correct it.If the Sender and Receiver are not configured for the same subnet, they will not communicate with each other to extend video.Return your computer's network configuration to its original settings. The web interface can now be accessed through the newly assigned IP addresses.Update FirmwareIf updated firmware is available, click on “System Settings” and then “Firmware Upgrade”. You will be prompted to locate the file with the updated firmware. Once found and selected, click on “Upgrade”.Note: Be careful not to interrupt power to the extender during the upgrade.WARRANTY INFORMATIONThe warranty period on this product (parts and labor) is two (2) years from the date of purchase. Please contact Network Technologies Inc at (800) 742-8324 (800-RGB-TECH) or (330) 562-7070 or visit our website at for information regarding repairs and/or returns.
