高中英语(人教版)必修一 Unit 5 Vocabulary extension 课件
高中英语(人教版)必修一 Unit 5 Vocabularyextension 课件Unit 5 Vocabulary ExtensionAs one of the essential components of the high school English curriculum, vocabulary extension plays a crucial role in helping students improve their language skills. In Unit 5, students are introduced to a variety of new words and phrases related to the topic of the environment. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the vocabulary extension activities included in the Unit 5 course material. One of the vocabulary extension activities focuses on word formation. By analyzing the root words and prefixes or suffixes, students can decipher the meanings of unfamiliar words. This activity not only enhances their understanding of the new vocabulary but also develops their ability to deduce the meanings of words in context. By engaging in this activity, students will be able to expand their vocabulary base and use the newly learned words appropriately in different contexts.Another vocabulary extension activity in Unit 5 prompts students to classify words into different categories. For example, students are asked to categorize words related to environmental issues into subtopics such as pollution, recycling, and conservation. This activity not only consolidates their knowledge of the acquired vocabulary but also helps them organize information effectively. It enables students to develop a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of the vocabulary terms and how they relate to different aspects of the environment. In addition to these activities, Unit 5 provides opportunities for students to engage in meaningful discussions using the newly acquired vocabulary. This activity encourages students to express their opinions on environmental issues and engage in debates or group discussions. By actively using the vocabulary in real-life contexts, students can improve their oral communication skills and fluency while incorporating the new vocabulary into their everyday language use.Furthermore, Unit 5 incorporates vocabulary games and quizzes to make learning more engaging and interactive. These activities allow students to review the vocabulary they have learned in a fun and challenging way. The games can be played individually or in groups, fostering a sense of competition and camaraderie among students. By participating in these activities, students can revise and reinforce their understanding of the vocabulary, ensuring its long-term retention. To further support vocabulary extension, Unit 5 also includes exercises that require students to complete sentences or write short paragraphs using the new vocabulary words. This activity promotes the application of the vocabulary in written form, reinforcing their understanding of the words and their ability to use them accurately in context. By practicing the new vocabulary in their writing, students can develop their written communication skills and enhance their language proficiency.Overall, the vocabulary extension activities provided in Unit 5 of the high school English curriculum offer students a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to improving their language skills. Through various activities such as word formation, categorization, discussions, games, andwritten exercises, students are exposed to the new vocabulary in different contexts and are encouraged to actively use and apply the words in their communication. This not only helps students to expand their vocabulary, but also enhances their overall language proficiency, ultimately preparing them for future academic and professional endeavors. In conclusion, Unit 5 of the high school English curriculum offers a diverse range of vocabulary extension activities that cater to the needs of students. By engaging in these activities, students can not only expand their vocabulary knowledge but also improve their language skills in a holistic manner. These activities create a dynamic and interactive learning environment, ensuring that students are motivated, engaged, and well-prepared for their language learning journey.。

The Best Teacher I Ever Had
Mr.Whitson taught sixthgrade science. On the first day of our class,he gave us a lecture about an animal called the Cattywampus,an illadapted(不适应的)nocturnal(夜行的)animal that was wiped out①during the Ice Age,and he passed around a skull as he talked. We all took notes and later had a quiz.
When he returned my paper,I was shocked. There was a big red“×”through each of my answers.I had failed. There must be some mistakes!I wrote down exactly what Mr.Whitson had said. Then I realized that everyone in the class had failed. What had happened?Mr.Whitson explained that he had made up②all the story about the Cattywampus. There had never been such an animal. The information in our notes was, therefore, incorrect.Did we expect credits③for incorrect answers?Needless to say④,we were outraged(使震怒).What kind of test was this? And what kind of teacher was he?Mr.Whitson said we should have figured it out⑤.After all,at the very moment he was passing around the Cattywampus' skull(in truth,a cat's),hadn't he been telling us that no trace⑥of the animal remained?[1]He had described its amazing night vision, the color of its fur and any other facts he couldn't have known. He had given the animal a ridiculous⑦name,and we still hadn't been suspicious(可疑的).He said the zeros on our papers would be recorded in his grade book. And they were.
Mr.Whitson said he hoped we would learn something from this
experience.Teachers and textbooks are not always right. In fact.no one is.He told us that we should not let our minds go to sleep, and should speak out if we ever thought he or the textbook was wrong.[2]

that we should...not...textbook was wrong是that引导的宾语从句,从句作told的宾语,其中宾语从句中又包含一个if引导的条件状语从句。

Ice Age
