一、重点词汇
1.smoke
通常作不及物动词,意为“吸烟”。

smoke也可以作名词,意为“烟”。

[例句] I can't stand the smell of smoke.我不能忍受烟味。

2.start 不及物动词,意为“开始,着手’’
[例句]Summer vacation usually starts in early July.暑假一般在七月初开始。

[拓展延伸] 还可以表示“启程,出发”。

[例句] We will start at six on Friday morning. 我们星期五早上6点出发。

批注:begin 和start 意为“开始;发生;发起”时,两者可互换。

如:
Then he began/ started a series of experiments. 然后他就开始做一系列的实验。

How did the accident begin/ start?事故是怎样发生的?
3. match
作名词,意为“火柴”。

[例句] Boy, don’t play with matches!孩子,别玩火柴。

[拓展延伸] 作名词,还可以表示“比赛”。

[例句] There is a football match between Class 1 and Class 3 next week. 下周一,一班和三班有一场足球赛。

批注:可以跟学生讲讲卖火柴的小女孩的故事:Once upon a time a little girl tried to make a living by selling matches in the street.
4.careful
作形容词,意为”仔细的,小心的”。

[例句] Tom was careful not to say anything about this to her. 汤姆小心翼翼,避免向她提及此事。

Be careful with the fire.当心这火。

I am always careful when crossing a street. 我过马路时总是很小心的。

批注:拓展一些类似变形的形容词,如:
care-careful help-helpful color-colorful use-useful forget-forgetful
5. safety n. 安全,平安。

[例句] We should lead the children to a place of safety. 我们应该把孩子们带到一个安全的地方。

批注:可以拓展safe, safely的用法
6. country n. 国家,乡村
[例句] There will be rain in all parts of the country. 全国各地将有雨。

My grandpa lives in a country. 我爷爷住在乡下。

批注:表示国家的词:country, state, nation.
Section B: Key sentences
二、重点句型
1. Jill’s father Mr Xu, a firefighter, is at Rainbow Primary School today. 吉尔的父亲徐先生是一个消防队员,他今天在彩虹小学。

在本句中Mr Xu, a firefighter 是Jill’s father 的同位语,起解释说明作用。

[例句] Lao She, a Chinese writer, is famous in the world. 老舍,一位中国作家,在世界上都很著名。

Mary, one of my classmates, is my best friend. 玛丽,我的一个同学,是我最好的朋友。

2. The fire starts because people start a campfire. 火灾的开始是因为人们营火。

because 是连词,在这里引导原因状语从句。

[例句] He doesn’t go to school because he is ill. 他因病没有上学。

3. It does not taste good at all. 它一点都不好吃。

not…at all 意为“一点也不”,表示强调。

[例句] I don’t like the shirt at all. 我一点也不喜欢这件衬衫。

批注:学生可能会把Not at all. 与not…at all 混淆,讲解一下区别。

4. I don’t want to eat any raw meat, so I throw it away into the fire. 我不想吃任何生肉,所以我把它扔进了火里。

so 作连词,意为“因此,所以”。
