The appeal of the interview has everything to do with the human factor. Most people believe that they are a reasonable judge of character and trust their instinctive feeling. We might use some kind of test to aid theselection process, but we usually pick a candidate who interviews well, has good qualifications and impressive work record. But suppose the candidate lies or is less than completely honest. “This can be a serious problem for employers”, explains Alan Conrad, Chief Executive at Optimus Recruiment. “The most difficult liars to find are those who tell half-truths rather than complete lies.”Research shows that up to 75 percent of resumes are inaccurate on purpose. The most common practice is omission.Interviewer should therefore concentrate on areas of uncertainy such as gaps between periods of employment and job descriptions that seem strange. “Focusing on these areas will force candidates to tell the truth or become increasingly dishonest. This is usually when people signal their anxiety by their body language. Sweat on the upper lip, false smiles and nervous hand movements all indicate discomfort.”Conrad does not suggest an aggressive policy-style interview technique , but insists that close inspection of a resume is absolutely essential. Only by asking the right questions can you confirm the suitability of the candidate or put pressure on those who are being less than completely honest.21. The best title of this passage can be ___________.A. How to Catch Out the Dishonest CandidateB. How to Find a Job by TricksC. Disadvantages of Job InterviewsD. Advantages of Job Interviews22. Coots need to be tricky because of the nunsual way the animals. Compete: One coot will put its eggs secretly into another’s nest to trick the host into raising the invader’s eggs. But nest owners use their wits to fight back, Lyon finds.Over four summers, Lyon monitored 400 coot nests near Williams Lake in central British Columbia, tagging the eggs with a marker. Of these , 160 coot nests received eggs from unrelated coots. The hosts generally were not fooled, however,. About half the time, coot parents rejected thestrange eggs completely, usually by burying them deep in the nest.“Foreign eggs were not disappearing by chance ---and that can only mean the birds were recognizing them, ”Lyon says. Apparently , the coots were alerted by the unfamiliar colors and patterns on the foreign eggs. In other cases, the parents pushed the foreign eggs to an unfavorable position at the border area of the nest, where there is less heat for hatching.Even if a mother coot didn’t remove the foreign eggs from her nest, she continued to lay a normal hatch number of her own eggs, despite theapparent extra foreign eggs. Lyon thinks that means the coots somehow kept a count of both their own eggs an d the suspicious ones. “That coots can distinguish their own eggs from the foreign ones is a rare but very convincing example of counting wild animal world,” the ecologistconcluded.26. The meaning of the bird’s name “coot”probably is __________.A. wonderful and amazingB. unusual and remarkableC. secret and unbelievableD. old and silly27. It is reached by a delightful road that drops down 700 meters over two huge "steps" of rock to the sea.Tourists go down to Apollonia in the afternoon, after they have spent the morning in Cyrene. Both places were cities long ago, and they are full of interesting and beautiful ruins. There is more to be seen in Cyrene -- on the ground, you understand. If you want to know the excitement of an underwater city, Apollonia is the place. Some ruins of Apollonia are on the mainland. Some are on an island a thousand meters from the short. The rest now lie between, under eight or ten meters of water. The sea is warm, seldom rough. It is often almost as clear as glass. On a still day, then, swim out towards the island. Swim under water as much as you can, with your eyes open. Look down.First you see a street, with houses and shops on both sides. Their roofs have fallen in, but the walls are standing. Some shops have a big stone table -- a counter perhaps -- and stone shelves. At the end of this street you come to a square. It has a wide pavement all around, and some buildings open directly on to the pavement. Were they cafes Did the waiters put tables and chairs on the pavement in summer long agoOver two thousand years ago the king of Egypt visited the city. He brought his daughter Cleopatra with him. She was ten years old at the time, and her father built a huge swimming bath for her. You can still see Cleopatra's Bath, behind the cafes in the square. These halls are popularly called "dorms." Residence halls may offer various types of living accommodations. There are single rooms, in which a student lives alone but there probably are a good many more double rooms, which two students share. Some dorms have sets of rooms, where small groups of students have separate bedrooms but share a bathroom and maybe a study room. There are usually a number of conveniences available for those living in university residence halls. Most have washing machines and clothes dryers for use by the residents. Many dorms have kitchens where students can prepare light meals. Residence halls generally provide not only room and board but public rooms and recreational facilities娱乐设施and sometimes study rooms for their use.If you live in a dormitory you need to know what the rules and regulations are. Meals usually are served at only certain hours, and you must be there at those hours if you expect to eat. There may be only certain hours when visitors may come, or they may be limited to certain areas of the dormitory. Often cooking in bedrooms is prohibited禁止, and the use of certain pieces of electrical equipment such as coffee pots or hair dryers may be limited. Living in a residence hall carries certain obligation义务. You have to be considerate of others, especially during study hours. Telephone calls and visits by friends should be short. You have to cooperate in keeping the room as neat as possible. It is sometimes hard to be tolerant of another person's habits that may differ from your own.21. Residence halls in American universities provide ______.A single rooms shared by two students.B apartments for small groups of students.C double rooms for two students.D separate rooms with a common bathroom.22. They feel they are poor listeners when they think about something else while the other is talking or when they're tired, or not interested in what she or he is talking about. In fact, there are a variety of ways to listen, just as there are a variety of ways to say something. Human beings are complex and concealing. Often we don't say what we want to say, or say exactly the opposite of what we want to say. Sometimes, we aren't honest or direct with another because we think we don't have the right or are afraid of what will happen if we are. The body "talks", too, sometimes more honestly than the tongue. These different ways of talking need different ways of listening. To keep the seesaw going in conversations and in relationships, we need to understand and use these different ways, especially if our goal is to be a caring, thoughtful person. By knowing how to listen in various ways, you can be accurate in picking up messages no matter how they are masked or distorted变形了的 or how they are delivered. Some messages are heard just by listening silently; some, by holding a hand or giving a hug拥抱. But to be able to respond accurately, you need to hear accurately. Most people listen only with their ears. Too few listen with their hearts as well as their ears, listening to the other's, sharing of his or her hopes, joys, fears.26. According to the passage, listening only with ears may happen to us when ______.A we are emotionally tiredB we are physically disabledC we are so interested in the topicD we are asked many questions27. Which of the following is NOT TRUE about a good listenerA He can feel what the speaker thinks.B He can share the speaker's feeling.C He can remember what the speaker says.D He can listen with his heart.28. The purpose in writing the second paragraph is to ______.A demonstrate why we are not honest in communicationB explain how our body “talks”C illustrate ways used by people in speakingD show that understanding one's speech is not an easy job29. The word "seesaw" Line 1, Para. 3 probably means ______.A communicationB purposeC understandingD friendship30. According to the passage our failure to give proper response to thespeaker is probably because ______.A we misunderstand what he saysB we don't like the speakerC he speaks in a distorted wayD he speaks in a different languageQuestions 31 to 35 are based on the following passage.Passage FourSuperstition 迷信 is a difficult question. We cannot quite say that superstition in Britain is dead. Its history is too long and too recent for that, and indeed you will find many remains of it in modem Britain. But they are only connected chiefly with vague beliefs of good luck and bad luck. It is unlucky, for instance, to walk under a ladder, or to spill salt, or break a mirror, or to have anything to do with number 13; whereas a horseshoe brings good luck, and people jokingly "touch wood" to prevent the return of a past misfortune. There are still many strange country remedies against sickness which are obviously superstitions. Most of all, there is still a surprising amount of interest in fortune-telling, e.g. in the form of "horoscopes" 占星术in newspapers and women's magazines-though for most people this is nothing more than an amusement, which they may well be slightly ashamed of.But the real measure of superstition is fear. In this sense there is no superstition in Britain. British people as a whole do not believe in evil influences or evil spirits. Sickness and misfortune do not come from devils, but are the result of chance or foolishness or inefficiency. Devils belong only to history books. Devils exist only in the mind -- usually the minds of others. Magic is simply an interesting word for performing tricks.Fairies童话故事中的仙女 are pretty little winged creatures in "fairy stories" for children and any adult who believed in fairies or magic or devils would be considered slightly mad. Thus, modern Britain has largely emerged from superstition, and the future seems to consist not of devils, but of matter and machines.31. The author's purpose in writing this passage is to ______.A criticize British people's superstitious beliefsB show British people's attitudes towards superstitious beliefs todayC describe various superstitious beliefs still practiced in modern BritainD emphasize the influence of superstition upon the British people32. 三、学位英语作文必备范文WeatherWeather affects all of us in one way or another, directly or indirectly. For example, good weather makes people happy and gay, while bad weather makes people sick and depressed. Besides, on a fine day, one can get out for a walk or play a game in the open air. On a rainy day, however, he can only stay indoors. In a word, weather is part of life for all of us.The first thing that many people do after getting up in the morning is to see what the weather is like. With a knowledge of the weather, people can arrange work and life of the day. If it is fine, he may decide to go on a picnic. If it is cloudy, he will have to take a raincoat or an umbrella with him when he is leaving the house. Whatever the weather may be, one tends to adjust his activities to it accordingly. In order to know what the weather will be, special people are hired to provide this information. They collect data, analyze them and provide the weather of the coming day. This information, which is announced on the radio or on TV, is usually very accurate. Thanks to the efforts of those professionals, we can always know the weather in advance and get prepared for it.2Health or WealthI prefer health to wealth if I have to choose between them. It is true that wealth makes life easier and more comfortable, but health is even more important. Only when one has good health can he pursue wealth and happiness.Wealth cannot be acquired without health. As we know, to gain wealth usually means working hard. If one does not have a strong body, how can he work hard? How can he have enough energy to overcome all the difficulties on his way towards success? Only with a sound body may one get a chance to enjoy the better life provided by his wealth because health ensure wealth but not vice versa. Therefore, health is the basis for attaining wealth.Even if one is born into a rich family, wealth alone cannot make him happy. Imagine a rich man who can do nothing but stay in bed. How can he enjoy his life? What can his money do for him? So long as one is healthy, there are always chances for him to attain everything including wealth.3Directions: For this part, you need to write a short passage with a title Spring Festival in not less than 100 words. Thousands of years ago, Chinese people started to count days according to the changes of moon and in this way thus created a lunar calendar. Spring Festival is considered to be the first day in Chinese lunar calendar. It is an occasion for all the members of the family to gather together to celebrate the festival. Because it is the most important festival and people take the longest leave in the whole year, it becomes a proper time for family members who live far away from each other to take the opportunity to reunite.Besides, it is the time of the year at which relatives and friends exchange visits. Most of the people are busy with their work or other daily chores and seldom have time to pay visits to their friends and relatives. The long leave during Spring Festival provides them with good chance to visit each other and share their experiences of the year.4Directions: For this part, you need to write a short passage with a title Travel in not less than 100 words. Urban residents enjoy good housing, medical care, convenient transport and lots of cultural activities. Children living in cities can get better education, because almost all the famous universities are located in the cities. However, there are also many disadvantages if one lives in a city. For example, cities are usually polluted and noisy. Urban residents can hardly enjoy fresh air and birds’ singing as rural people do in the countryside. In conclusion, if a person tries to decide whether to live in a city or not, he should take into consideration both the advantages and disadvantages of urban life before he makes the final decision.7One ―Child FamilyIn China one-child family has many advantages. China has a large population. In order to control the growth of population and improve the living standard of the people, the government requires that every family have one child. Most people take a positive attitude towards the one-child policy. They realize that a family with one child is better than those with more children. Parents have much time show concern about the growth of their child. In addition, they can spend more time on their studies and work. But there are some negative views about the one-child family. Some people argue that it may lead to some social problems in future. For example, the parents will feel lonely when their child gets married. Moreover, parents tend to spoil their only child. In my opinion, one-child family has a lot of advantages. It benefits people as well as the country. No matter it is food, clothes or furniture, each of them costs money. You can get none of them for free. But there are things that money can not buy. Not all the things in the world can be evaluated and estimated by money. You can not acquire things like love, happiness and friendship merely with money. So we may conclude that money is not everything. It is useful to get many things you need or you like. You can survive without it. But when it comes to feelings and emotions, it loses its magic power as to material things.12Laid-off Workers and Re-employment(下岗工人与再就业)There is an increasing number of workers not only the middle-aged but also the young who are laid off their jobs. And these employed are also worried a great deal that someday they may lose their job. This phenomenon has caught a great social attention. The increasing number of laid-off workers is caused mainly by the industrial restructuring and economic development across China. In order to improve efficiency, many enterprises have to reduce workforce. Another reason is that some enterprises claim bankruptcy, which made millions of workers jobless. Laborers from countries are also contributing to the increasing numbers of the laid-offs.Off-job doesn’t men no job. There are plenty of opportunities for the laid-off workers to be re-employed. But they have to get job training to make themselves qualified and competitive inhuman resources market.13Why Should We Learn EnglishEnglish language has now become an international language as it is spoken in most countries in the world. For example, English is the native language in the U.S., the Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. and it is also the official language in many other countries and international affaires. As we know, most of the valuable books, newspaper and magazines are printed in English. If we want to read them to increase our knowledge, we must learn English. If we want to do business with foreign countries, we should also learn English. Why? It is just because English is spoken by the majority of foreigners. We people in China come into contact with more and more foreign countries, English is considered as the most important and indispensable tool to communication. This is the reason why there are so many people in our country who learn English. The know that learning English helps make life more convenient.14Smoking CigarettesSmoking is a common phenomenon. People have smoked cigarettes for a long time. The tobacco which is used to make cigarettes was first grown in what is now part of the United States. Christopher Columbus, who discovered America, saw the Indians smoking. Soon the dried leaves were transported to Europe where smoking began to catch on. In the late 1800s, the Turk made cigarettes popular. However, it does more harm than good. Cigarette smoke contains at least two harmful substances, tar and nicotine. Tar, which forms as the tobacco burns, damages the lungs and therefore affects breathing. Nicotine, which is found in the leaves, causes the heart to beat faster and increases the breathing rate.Smoking cigarettes is dangerous. Therefore, efforts should be made to restrict smoking. The U.S. Public Health Service stated that cigarette smoking is the cause of lung cancer and several other deadly diseases. The U.S. government now requires that each package of cigarettes bear a special warning about the dangers of smoking.15Is Failure a Bad ThingFailure is a common thing in our daily life. As a student, we sometimes fail to get high scores in our examinations. When we play games, we can’t avoid being beaten by the others. And there are times when we fail to do more satisfactory work. All these failures happen naturally and almost every one of us has such experience. However, there are different attitudes towards failure. Some people lose heart in failure, and they think the world is at its end. Some people don’t take failure seriously, and they just let it be, while some others learn much from failure, and therefore see the light of hope through failure. In my opinion, what really counts is not failure itself, but what we think of failure and do after failure. As long as we don’t give up and believe in oursel ves, and in the meantime learn some thing from failure, we’ll certainly make progress in the end. So I’m never afraid of failure. I believe failure is not a bad thing.16The Way to SuccessIt is true that everyone tries to achieve success in his/her career. But one finally attains his/her aim while the other fails. Why? Because the one continues his cause to the end through long period of hard struggles. But the other is easily disappointed and stops halfway. In addition to strong will, perseverance and diligence are also essential to success. A man of strong will and perseverance always has an inflexible spirit. He sticks to his cause no matter how tough it might be. If we want to succeed finally in our career, we should hold to our goal.Where there is a will, there is a way. Success belongs to those who can suffer long years of patient toil and constant efforts.以上范文仅供大家参考,,如果有时间或挤时间,多背一些范文是非常有益的。

2024年广东学位英语考试时间表

2024年广东学位英语考试时间表

2024年广东学位英语考试时间表全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The Big English Test for Older Kids in GuangdongHi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 5th grader at Sunshine Elementary School in Guangzhou. I love playing games, watching cartoons, and learning new things - especially in English class! My teacher Mrs. Wang is always telling us how important it is to learn English well. She says it will open up so many opportunities for us in the future.Speaking of the future, a bunch of my older cousins and neighbors are getting really nervous and studying like crazy these days. They keep talking about this huge English exam called the Guangdong Postgraduate Entrance English Test. I don't fully understand what it's for yet, but it sounds like a really big deal! From what I've overheard, this test is a major hurdle that university students have to overcome if they want to get into a master's degree program in Guangdong province. The scores they get will play a big role in determining which schools andprograms they can apply to. No wonder everyone is stressing out!Mrs. Wang explained to our class that this English test is designed to make sure students have really strong language skills before moving on to intense graduate-level coursework taught completely in English. It covers all the key areas like listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The test is handled by the Guangdong Provincial Education Examination Authority and universities treat the scores as a crucial benchmark. My 18-year-old cousin Lingling has been driving my aunt crazy with all her test prep over the past few months. She's been going to special classes, working through practice exams, and listening to English audio lessons basically non-stop. Her exam is scheduled for June 15th, 2024 and she's counting down the days!Apparently, there are two test dates scheduled in Guangdong this year - one on June 15th and another on December 14th. Lingling is taking the June test, but some of her friends are waiting until December to give themselves more time to prepare. From what I've gathered, a lot of students end up taking the test multiple times to try and improve their scores for better program admissions. The test itself lasts for 3 hours and is divided into several sections. Mrs. Wang broke it down for us:Writing (30 minutes): Students have to write a short essay of 300 words based on a given prompt.Listening Comprehension (30 minutes): They listen to recordings and answer multiple choice questions about what was said.Reading Comprehension (60 minutes): Lots of reading passages followed by multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. The passages cover topics like science, culture, and current events.Speaking (10-15 minutes): A one-on-one oral interview where the student has conversations and responds to questions from a certified English examiner. The scoring is done on a scale of 100 total possible points. Different universities and programs have different score requirements, but Mrs. Wang said students generally need to aim for at least 70-75% to have a decent shot at getting into a well-ranked program.I can see why everyone is taking this test so seriously! Getting a master's degree is a huge milestone in life, and thisEnglish exam seems to be holding the keys to those academic dreams. I'm just an elementary kid, but I know when I get to be a university student, I'll definitely be hitting the books hard to prepare for my own big tests like this one day.My advice to any students stressing over this exam? Stay calm, study smart, and believe in yourselves! If Lingling can power through all those practice tests while keeping up with her K-pop dance routine, you can conquer this English beast too! Just imagine how awesome it will feel to get that congratulatory Wechat message with your scores and uni acceptance info! The late night studying will all be worth it.Alright, that's my two cents as a pint-sized Englishexpert-in-training! You might be asked to describe a picture, answer some questions, or even have a conversation with the examiner. Don't be nervous, though! So, they have to do really, really well on this exam to even have a chance at getting into their dream school. And you know what else? This exam is no joke! It's not like the little English quizzes we take in school. Nope, this thing is like, the ultimate test of your English skills. You gotta know everything from grammar to vocabulary to reading comprehension to essay writing. It's enough to make even the smartest grown-up's head spin! But you know what's really crazy? Some grown-ups take this exam over and over again until they get the score they want! Can you imagine having to study for and take the same exam multiple times? I think I'd go crazy!Anyway, enough about how tough this exam is. Let's talk about when it's actually happening next year. The listening and reading part is happening on December 21st, 2024. That's right around Christmas time! I bet a lot of grown-ups are gonna be stressed out trying to study for this exam while also getting ready for the holidays. And the writing and speaking part? Well, that's happening on December 28th, 2024. So, there's a little bit of a break in between the two parts, but not much. I can only imagine how many grown-ups are gonna be spending their Christmas break studying and stressing out over this exam.Oh, and get this – the exam is happening all over Guangdong province! There are test centers set up in cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and a whole bunch of other places. So, no matter where you live in Guangdong, you'll have to travel to one of these test centers to take the exam. Talk about inconvenient! But you know what's really cool? Some of these test centers are in really fancy places, like universities and stuff. Can you imagine taking an exam in a place like that? I bet it would feel like you're a grown-up already!Anyway, that's about all I know about this crazy Guangdong Postgraduate Entrance English Exam. It sounds like a total nightmare to me, but I guess it's really important for a lot of grown-ups. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be the one stressing out over taking this exam! But for now, I think I'll just stick to my regular old school quizzes and tests.Good luck to all the grown-ups out there who are gonna be taking this exam next year! You're gonna need it!篇42024 Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam - A Kid's ViewHey kids! Jessica here. I'm just a regular 4th grader, but I've got some really important news to share about a big test called the 2024 Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam. I know, I know, you're probably thinking "An English test? Bor-ing!" But trust me, this one is kind of a big deal, especially for all the older kids out there looking to go to a university after high school. You see, the Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam is a really important test that a lot of high school graduates have to take if they want to get into a master's degree program at a university in Guangdong province. From what I understand, it tests how well you can read, write, listen to and speak English. The better you do on the test, the better your chances of getting into the postgrad program you want! This year's exam is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 15th, 2024 and Sunday, June 16th, 2024. Can you believe there are kids who will be taking a test over an entire weekend? I don't know how they'll stay focused that long. I can barely make itthrough Mrs. Robinson's math tests without daydreaming about my favorite cartoons! But this English test isn't just any old exam. It's actually made up of four different sections spread out over those two days. From what I've heard from my older sisters, it's no walk in the park either! On the first day, June 15th, there will be two test sections. The morning will start off with the listening comprehension part of the exam. This section tests how well students can understand audio recordings in English of conversations, speeches, lectures and more. My sisters told me the recordings can be pretty fast, so you really have to concentrate. No falling asleep at your desk! After a break for lunch (Hopefully the testing rooms have vending machines for snacks!), that same day students will move on to the written expression section. This part of the test looks at your English writing abilities. You might have to read a passage and write an essay about it, or summarize what you read in your own words. From what I've heard, having a good vocabulary and being able to structure sentences properly is crucial. Phew, no text speak allowed! Then on Sunday, June 16th, the exam continues with another two sections. The first part of the day will be the readingcomprehension portion. This is where they test how well you can understand different kinds of English texts like articles, fiction stories, and more. My sisters said you really have to pay attention to all the details and think critically about what you're reading. No zoning out allowed! Finally, in the afternoon, students will take the speaking section of the test. For this part, you get tested one-on-one with an evaluator. They might ask you questions and have a conversation with you completely in English to judge your pronunciation, fluency, grammar and more. No pressure or anything! My sisters said this section can be prettynerve-wracking. I'd probably be a stammering mess up there. Good thing I'm only in 4th grade!Whew, after writing all that out, I'm getting stressed out just thinking about having to take such a big, important test like this Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam. I'll be honest, part of me is excited to get older and take tests that really make a difference for my future. But another part of me wants to stay a kid forever so I can just goof off and not have to worry about any major exams! Maybe I'll feel differently when I'm a teenager though. No matter what, I have so much respect for any student tackling this English exam. Getting through all those sectionsover an entire weekend is no joke! If you're one of those students, I wish you tons of luck and all the best. Study hard, get plenty of rest, and sneak in some relaxing downtime before the big days too! You've got this!Well, that's about all I've got on the inside scoop of the 2024 Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam schedule and format. Let me know if you need any more tips from a fourth grader's perspective! For now, I'm going to go play outside and not worry about major tests for at least a few more years. Catch ya later!篇5The Big Scary Test I Can't Wait For!Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I live in Guangzhou with my mom, dad, and little sister Huihui. I'm writing today to tell you all about the super duper important test I'll be taking next year. It's called the Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam and just thinking about it makes me sweat buckets!I know, I know...you're probably thinking "Xiaoming, you're just a kid! Why are you worried about some crazy hard test for graduate students?" Well, let me explain. You see, my parents really want me to become a scholar when I grow up. Not just anyol' scholar either - they expect me to get a PhD and be a professor at a famous university. Crazy, right?Ever since I was little, they've been pushing me to study my bubbies off. Weekends are for extra tutoring sessions, not fun. Summer vacations mean intense study camps, not swimming or playing. I've pretty much had my nose stuck in books 24/7 for as long as I can remember. Don't get me wrong, I actually like learning and doing well in school. But the pressure my parents put on me is insane!Anyway, the reason I need to take the Guangdong Postgraduate English Exam is because it's one of the big hurdles I'll need to clear to have a shot at getting into a top university PhD program down the road. My parents say English is like the golden key that will open doors for me, so I need to master it.The exam is no joke from what I've heard. It has listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections - all in English of course. Just listening to people describe the reading part where you have to answer crazy detailed questions about long academic passages makes me want to pull my hair out. The writing section is just as bad where you have to write essays and reports using high-level vocabulary and perfect grammar. I'm getting heart palpitations just thinking about it!But the part that scares me the most is the speaking section. I'll have to go into a room and have an actual conversation with a test grader, all in English! What if I freeze up or my mind goes blank? What if they ask me something I don't understand? I don't want to let my parents down, but man that section sounds terrifying. My parents have me seeing an English tutor twice a week now to get ready. Mrs. Chen is nice but she works me to the bone. We spend hours doing practice tests and speaking drills. I have to memorize long lists of academic words and practice using them in sentences. By the time the sessions are over, my brain feels like mush! The exam is scheduled for June 22nd, 2024 which is still quite a ways off. But you better believe I'll be studying like crazy until then. My parents have it circled in big red marker on our kitchen calendar and bring it up basically every day. "Xiaoming, did you review your vocab words today? How much time did you spend on reading practice this week?" It's enough to drive me bonkers!Part of me is really excited though. If I can ace this test, it'll be a huge step towards making my parents proud and getting into a great school in the future. I know they just want the bestfor me, even if their expectations stress me out to the max. Just picturing the big smile on my dad's face if I get a high score makes me super motivated. And can you imagine how cool it would be to be able to speak English like a pro? Not just reading and writing, but actually having conversations with people from other countries. I could make foreign friends, travel wherever I want, and not get confused by those English movies and TV shows my parents are always watching. Maybe I could even study abroad one day if I'm really really good! Think of all the opportunities it could open up.Whew, just thinking about all that got me riled up! Thanks for listening to me ramble on about this huge exam. I'll be sure to keep you posted on my studying and let you know how it all goes. Wish me luck - I've got a whooole lot of work to do between now and June 22nd, 2024! Gambatte!篇6The Big Important English Test for Grown-Ups in 2024Wow, there's going to be a huge English test next year for all the big kids who want to go to university in Guangdong province! My teacher Ms. Wang told our class all about it. She said it'scalled the Guangdong Graduate English Test and it's really important for teenagers and adults. If you want to get into a good university or college program, you have to take this test and get a high score. It's kind of like the big tests we take at the end of the school year, but it's all in English and it's just for university entrance. Crazy, right?Ms. Wang said the test has listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections. You have to show you can understand people talking in English, read English texts, write english essays and paragraphs, and speak English out loud. Sounds really hard! I'm glad I don't have to take it yet.The listening part has conversations, news reports, and lectures that you listen to and then answer questions about. The reading has passages from books, magazines, and websites that you read and get quizzed on. I can't imagine reading a whole book in English! For the writing section, you have to write an essay responding to a prompt or describing an experience. You also have to read something and summarize the main points in writing. With the speaking, you get recorded answering questions and giving opinions about different topics.Ms. Wang told us there are three test dates set for 2024 in Guangdong:June 15, 2024September 21, 2024December 14, 2024She said most students take it in June after they finish senior year of high school. But if you don't get a good score, you can take it again in September or December to try for a higher mark. The highest score is 100 and different universities have different minimum score requirements. For example, Ms. Wang said you need at least an 80 to apply to programs at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. For other schools it might be lower, like a 70 or 75.Every test location has a registration deadline too, usually 1-2 months before the test date. You can't just show up, you have to sign up ahead of time and pay the test fee, which I think is around 200 RMB.There are test prep books, practice tests, and tutors to help get ready. Ms. Wang showed us a practice reading passage and I could barely understand any of it! The vocabulary was soadvanced. I felt bad for the ninth grade students in our class who have to start prepping for it soon.Apparently there are testing centers all over Guangdong - cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan and more. On test day, you have to bring your admission ticket and ID card. Then you sit in a big room with hundreds of other test takers and go through each section. It lasts almost 3 hours from start to finish! I can't imagine taking a test that long, especially having to write essays and speak English out loud. My hand would definitely cramp up from all that writing. After the test, you get a score report mailed to you or posted online. Then you submit your scores to the universities you're applying to as part of your application. The higher your English score, the better your chances of getting into a top program. This Guangdong Graduate English Test sounds crazy difficult. I'm just glad I'm still in elementary school and have years before I need to start worrying about it! Kudos to all the high schoolers out there working hard to master English for this important test. I'll be cheering you on...from far, far away!。
