一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Garbage sorting has become a hot issue around China, especially after Shanghai began carrying out a regulation on July 1.Beijing, as a forerunner in environmental protection, has thus been expected to follow suit. The capital of the country has long been campaigning for sorting and recycling household waste, as part of its environmental drive for sustainable growth, local media reported. The current regulation gives garbage sorting responsibilities to government departments, property management groups and other organizations. It also gives rules for companies, outlining how they're responsible for waste collection, transportation and treatment. Only individuals are not subject to responsibilities. The long-awaited revision will soon change the situation, "Taking out the trash without sorting it properly will be illegal," said Sun Xinjun, director of the Beijing Commission of Urban Management. In Shanghai, violators are now fined up to 200 yuan ($30)for trash-sorting violations. The maximum fine in Beijing will not be less than that, he said. The Beijing city government first set out to promote garbage sorting in 2009. Authorities have since called on citizens to sort their household waste into four types-recyclable waste, kitchen trash, dangerous waste and others-and leave it in a corresponding dustbin or trash can. Blue-colored dustbins signify items within are recyclable, green represents kitchen trash, red corresponds to dangerous materials and grey to other waste. To promote the awareness of garbage sorting and expand the base of participants, authorities have employed workers to help residents on the spot. With intelligent devices, those who throw in recyclable waste at given sites will be rewarded with bonus points, which can be used to buy daily goods. At some communities, there are no color-coded dustbins. Instead, a scheduled garbage collection service is offered to help improve the environment. In other communities, workers offer a door-to-door service to collect recyclables or kitchen waste.Beijing Environmental Sanitation Engineering Group has been promoting new garbage sorting facilities such as recycling cabinets and smart kitchen waste trash cans since 2016, Xinhua News Agency reported. Nearly 26,000 metric tons of household waste is generated across Beijing on a daily basis and 29 terminal garbage disposal facilities are working at full capacity. Nearly 9.3 million tons of household waste was processed in the city last year.(1)According to the passage, which dustbins should some used coke cans be thrown into?A. Grey-colored dustbins.B. But the days of having to quickly close your sunroof could soon be a thing of the past thanks to Jaguar Land Rover’s latest technology. The firm is developing cars that can adapt automatically by closing windows and roofs or starting the heater if they detect bad weather is on the way. The weather forecasting system uses a set of air pressure, humidity (湿度)and light sensors (传感器)to help its vehicles predict changes inconditions and adapt to them. Cars equipped with the system could make slight changes to the air conditioning if it finds the weather is getting warmer during a journey or increase the cabin tem-perature if it will get colder. The forecast may indicate there is a possibility of one or more weather conditions, such as rain, within a period of time, such as five minutes. The vehicle may then adapt to the local weather conditions. In particular, it may close one or more windows, or close a roof of the vehicle in re-sponse to a forecast of rain. Similarly, windows could be darkened using electrochromic (电致变色的)glass to improve visibility if bright sunshine is forecasted.Although it is unclear whether this technology will make its way to a production vehicle soon, such a system would be advantageous on autonomous vehicles. Since there is no human driver present, the system will allow the vehicle to make it comfortable for its passengers, based on current weather conditions. It can also make the vehicle safer if it knows rain or snow is coming.24. How will Jaguar Land Rover's latest technology benefit drivers?A. Vehicles can automatically drive themselves.B. Vehicles can find positions and routes themselves.C. Vehicles can act as mobile weather forecasting stations.D. Vehicles can open windows and sunroofs automatically25. What is the feature of the glass of a vehicle with the new technology?A. It can help adjust the temperature.B. It can still be clear in rainy days.C. It is too strong to break into pieces.D. Its color can change with the sunshine.26. What can we know about the weather forecasting system from the text?A. It is intelligent enough to stop raining.B. It makes the driver more comfortable.C. It can't predict the weather accurately.D. It makes autonomous cars safer in bad weather.27. Where might the text be taken from?A. A book review.B. A science report.B. A science fiction. D. A travel brochure.CAsking for salary history provides an easy way to sort applicants into an employer’s desired price range and helps the employer calculate the lowest offer that will still attract a candidate. But an increasing number of U.S. states and cities agree there ought to be a law against it. Massachusetts, Philadelphia, New York City and Puerto Rico have banned salary history questions on applications and in interviews. Why? Because when it comes to a candidate’s suitability for a job, salary history is a subjective and often misleading indicator —and it may most affect “the people who have already been illeg ally treated,” says Katie Donovan, a salary negotiation coach and one of the authors of the Massachusetts law.Candidates who start their careers underpaid because of the gender or race wage gap, a bad economy or a cheap boss finds that this lowball (虚报低价) figure continues to weigh them down throughout their career. At the same time, senior victims of layoffs have difficulty being hired because employers assume they’re not interested in senior victims. In an interview, you can avoid talking about salary history questions by turning the discussion to what you’re looking to make.Donovan recommends a method similar to what you’re already doing: Enter $0.00, or some other number that is clearly intended not to cheat, but to oppose.Of course, there’s always a r isk doing so because it will cost you opportunities. But Ronda Wakefield, owner of NW MT HR Solutions, says that when she receives an application with an obviously false salary history, she’ll still follow up if the candidate interests her. “I personally don’t want to miss out on a great candidate because they didn’t want to answer the question directly,” she says.28. Why are many U.S. states and cities against asking for applicants’ salary history?A. Because their salary history is not an objective or correct indicator.B. Because employees who have their careers underpaid have difficulty being hired.C. Because candidates start their careers underpaid because of the gender or race wage gap.D. Because they didn’t think of it as the only standard to judge a person.29. What does the underlined word “layoffs” in Paragraph 3 mean?A. The people dismissed.B. The action of dismissing others.C. The state of being dismissed.D. The bosses dismissing others.30. Why does Donovan suggest applicants write down $0.00 in the blank for their salary history?A. To cheat the boss.B. To fight against the question.C. To annoy the boss.D. To answer the question indirectly31. Who likes to know about applicants’ salary history most according to the pas sage?A. Any employer.B. Donovan.C. Wakefield.D. A mean employer.DAs PhD research goes, Brian Wisenden might be envied: watching baby fish swimming swiftly through the clear waters in the Costa Rican tropical dry forest. By recording their growth and numbers, he hoped to look at their risks of being eaten. Instead, he witnessed something strange. Many groups were increasing in numbers. In these groups, some were smaller than others, suggesting they weren’t siblings. Wisenden had accide ntally discovered that the fish, called convict cichlids, adopt each other’s babies. Why would they do that, he wondered? In the human world, we think of adoption as a selfless act. But in nature, its presence is puzzling. Taking on the burden of bringing up babies with no genetic link would seem to reduce an animal’s chance of survival or at least provide no gain. Yet, adoption is surprisingly common in the natural world.Take the eastern grey kangaroo. Between 2008 and 2013, Wisenden followed the fates of 326 baby kangaroos in the Wilsons Promontory National Park in Victoria and recorded 11 cases of pouch (育儿袋) swapping. The circumstances behind some of these adoptions aren’t known, but four were straight swaps and another four occurred after a mother had lost her own baby. How come? Before independence, baby kangaroos go through a period inside and outside their mothers pouch. Following out-of-pouch attempts, mothers normally sniff their young before allowing them back in, but Wisendens team suspect that during an emergency they may omit the sniff test, allowing a weak baby to quickly climb in before fleeing from danger. Some of nature’s adoptions are, actually, driven by young. In burrower bugs (土蝽), forexample, females lay a nest of eggs close to those of unrelated bugs. Mother bugs tend their developing eggs before they hatch, and then feed babies nuts from weedy mint plants. Finding nuts is a competitive business, so not every mother bug gets her fair share. And if the delivery rate isn’t up to standard, clever young may abandon their mothers to join a better-fed group. The consequences of adoption following mistaken identity can be horrible. The true babies of adopting mothers were abandoned. But it can have remarkable benefits, not just for adoptees but also for adoptive parents.32. What can we learn about Wisenden’s research about baby fish?A. It was beyond his expectations.B. It put many rare species at risk.C. It showed a genetic similarity in fish.D. It found a new way to protect forests.33. W hat does the underlined word “omit” mean in the passage?A. confirm.B. repeat.C. adopt.D. skip.34. Why would some burrower hugs abandon their mothers?A. To live in warmer nests.B. To reproduce.C. To seek for better parenting.D. To adapt to competition earlier.35. What may the author most probably talk about next?A. The causes of accidental adoption.B. The processes of accidental adoption.C. The drawbacks of accidental adoption.D. The advantages of accidental adoption.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

Researchers say that getting older should not necessarily mean becoming more weak or sick. Their research shows that a devotion to a life of movement and exercise may help us live not only longer, but also healthier. For their study, the researchers looked at two groups. The first group was made up of 125 non-professional cyclists between the ages of 55 to 79. This group included 84 healthy men and 41 healthy women. We will call this group the “cyclists”.Researchers then found 130 people to make up a second group. Within this group, 75 people were aged from 57 to 80. The other 55 were between the ages of 20 and 36. The people in this group were also healthy, but they did not exercise regularly. We will call this group the “non-exercisers”. Smokers, heavy drinkers of alcohol and people with other health issues were not included in the study. Then, researchers gave both groups a series of tests. They tested their muscle mass (肌肉质量), muscular strength, percentage of body fat and the strength of their immune (免疫的) systems. Then the researchers compared the results of the two groups. Results showed that the cyclists did not experience body changes usually regarded as a normal aging process. For example, they did not lose muscle mass or muscular strength. Also, their body fat did not increase with age.The researchers also found something they had not expected. The study showed that the immune systems of the cyclists did not age either. The researchers advise us all to find an exercise that we like in our lives.4. A Lifetime of Exercise Slows Aging ProcessCSix Neanderthals who lived in what is now France were eaten by their fellow Neanderthals some 100,000 years ago, according to fearful evidence of the cannibalistic (食人的) event discovered by scientists in a cave in the 1990s. Now, researchersmay have figured out why the Neanderthals, including two children, became victims of cannibalism: Global warming. While previous studies have examined Neanderthal remains to find proof of cannibalistic behavior, this is the first study to offer clues as to what may have led Neanderthals to become cannibals. Scientists found that rapid changes in local ecosystems as the planet warmed may have wiped out the animal species that Neanderthals ate, forcing them to look elsewhere to fill their stomachs. The researchers examined a layer of sediment (沉积物) in a cave known as Baume Moula-Guercy, in southeastern France. In that layer, charcoal (碳) and animal bones were so well-preserved that scientists could reconstruct an environmental picture representing 120,000 to 130,000 years ago. They discovered that the climate in the area was likely even warmer than it is today, and that the change from a cold, dry climate to a warmer one happened quickly. “Maybe within a few generations”, study co-author Emmanuel said. As the animals that once populated the landscape disappeared, some Neanderthals ate what they could find — their neighbors.Cannibalism is by no means unique to Neanderthals, and has been practiced by humans and their s “from the early Palaeolithic to theBronze Age and beyond,” the study authors reported. The behavior adopted by the starving Neanderthals in the Baume Moula-Guercy should therefore not be viewed as “a mark of bestiality (兽性) or sub-humanity”, but as an emergency adaptation to a period of severe environmental stress, according to thestudy.8. What does the study mainly focus on?A. The social behavior of Neanderthals.B. The reason for cannibalism among Neanderthals.C. The climate change in southeasternFrance.D. The influence of global warming on ancient animals.9. What can possibly be used to describe the climate in southeasternFrance120,000 to 130,000 years ago?A. It was no warmer than it is today.B. It was first warm while later cold and dry.C. Its change was mild and went through quite a long process.D. Its change is a chief factor contributing to cannibalism.10. Which of the following might the study authors agree with?A. Neanderthals’ cannibalism showed their bestiality.B. Cannibalism was actually a measure the Neanderthals had to adopt to survive.C. Neanderthals’ cannibalism guaranteed their rule over other tribes.D. Only Neanderthals were found to have cannibalism in human history.11. Where can you most possibly find this passage?A. In a science journal.B. In a travel brochure.C. In a history book.D. In a geography book.DWhen the COVID-19 hit and supermarket shelves were empty, Chris Hall and Stefanny Lowey decided they no longer wanted to rely on others for food. The couple, who live on Pender Island in BritishColumbia, Canada, decided to start a year-long challenge where they wouldn't buy a single thing to eat. Instead they would grow, raise or catch everything—right down to sugar, salt and flour. Now, five months in, they say the challenge has changed their lives.Chris, 38, said, “It has always been something that we have wanted to do. We have had a garden and grown vegetables for a long time already. When the COVID-19 hit, it gave us that extra push that we needed to do it. We were both out of work when we started, and with the reality check of grocery stores running out of items, it gave us even more motivation to see if we could look after ourselves.”The pair spent the months before building a house for chickens, ducks and turkey as well as studying as muchas possible to figure out where they would get all the things they needed. Chris adds, “We had to learn so many new things like how to grow mushrooms, process our Stevia plants, and harvest salt from the ocean. We spent a lot of time reading and studying online to figure out all the things we were going to need to do.”Now after five months, they both feel its been going well but Chris admits the first few weeks were difficult. “The first three weeks were very challenging as our bodies adjusted to cutting out coffee, wine and sugar all on the same day,” he says. “After three weeks our energy levels balanced out and our wishes reduced and now we feel great.” Now February has ended. As they come through winter, they feel positive about continuing with this way of living, with their challenge officially ending in August.12. Why did the pair decide to produce foods on their own?A. They were isolated by Pender Island.B. They couldn't afford to buy them because they were out of work.C. They believed it's good for their health.D. They could hardly buy them in shops.13. But the days of having to quickly close your sunroof could soon be a thing of the past thanks to Jaguar Land Rover’s latest technology. The firm is developing cars that can adapt automatically by closing windows and roofs or start-ing the heater if they detect bad weather is on the way. The weather forecasting system uses a set of air pressure, humidity (湿度)and light sensors (传感器)to help its vehicles predict changes in conditions and adapt to them. Cars equipped with the system could make slight changes to the air conditioning if it finds the weather is getting warmer during a journey or increase the cabin temperature if it will get colder. The forecast may indicate there is a possibility of one or more weather conditions, such as rain, within a period of time, such as five minutes. The vehicle may then adapt to the local weath-er conditions. In particular, it may close one or more windows, or close a roof of the vehicle in response to a forecast of rain. But an increasing number of U.S. states and cities agree there ought to be a law against it.Massachusetts, Philadelphia, New York City and Puerto Rico have banned salary history questions on applications and in interviews. Why? Because when it comes to a candidate’s suitability for a job, salary history is a subjective and often misleading indicator —and it may most affect “the people who have already been illegally treated,” says Katie Donovan, a salar y negotiation coach and one of the authors of the Massachusetts law.Candidates who start their careers underpaid because of the gender or race wage gap, a bad economy or a cheap boss finds that this lowball (虚报低价) figure continues to weigh them down throughout their career. At the same time, senior victims of layoffs have difficulty being hired because employers assume they’re not interested in senior victims. In an interview, you can avoid talking about salary history questions by turning the discussion to what you’re looking to make.Donovan recommends a method similar to what you’re already doing: Enter $0.00, or some other number that is clearly intended not to cheat, but to oppose.Of course, there’s always a risk doing so because it will cost you opportunities. Who likes to know about applicants’ salary history most according to the passage?A. Wisenden had accidentally discovered that the fish, called convict cichlids, adopt each other’s babies. Between 2008 and 2013, Wisenden followed the fates of 326 baby kangaroos in the Wilsons Promontory National Park in Victoria and recorded 11 cases of pouch (育儿袋) sw apping. In burrower bugs (土蝽), for example, females lay a nest of eggs close to those of unrelated bugs.
