1 Computer people talk a lot about the need for other people to become “computer-literate.” But not all experts agree that this is a good idea. One pioneer in particular, who disagrees, is David Tebbutt, the founder of Computertown UK. Although many people see this as a successful attempt to bring people closer to the computer, David does not see it that way. He says that Computertown JK was formed for just the opposite reason, to bring computers to people and make them people----literate.The underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refers to the idea thatComputertowns________(NMET19999-58)A help to set up more computer clubsB bring people to learn to use computersC bring more experts to work togetherD help to sell computers to the public解析:全文是在谈论如何普及电脑,使学习电脑变得容易的问题,此处的it指的是上文的 To bring people closer to the computer.

The rooster is the national emblem of France thanks to a wordplay: the Latin word meaning coq ,or rooster. rooster

例如,同位语in fact, only about 80 ocelots, an endangered wild cat, exist in the U.S. today.

Towards the evening, there comes the grand finale of the opening day ,an extremely exciting horserace.从an exciting horserace ,towards the evening ,of the opening day 等判断,应该是首日的最后一场的压台戏出场了。

and read intelligently. 此例中“the study of the meaning of words” 与前面生词semantics是同位关系,猜出 semantics指“语义学”。 eg. Capacitance, or the ability to store electric charge, is one of the most common characteristics of electronic circuits。 在复述中构成同位关系的两部分之间多用逗 号连接,同位语前常有or, similarly, that is to say, in other words, namely, or other, say i.e.等副词或短语出现。
eg. He fell into a ditch and lay there, semiconscious, for a few minutes. 根据词根conscious(清醒的,有意 识的),结合前缀semi(半,部分的, 不完全的),便可猜出semiconscious词 义“半清醒的,半昏迷的”。 eg. I'm illiterate about such things.
eg. Tom is considered an autocratic administrator because he makes decisions without seeking the opinions of others. eg. There were so many demonstrators in the Red Square that he had to elbow his way through the crowd.
