The purpose of the new model is to develop stu dents’ ability to use English in an all-round way, especially in listening and speaking, so that in their future work and social interactions they will be able to exchange information more effectively, and at the same time they will be able to enhance(增强)their ability to study independently and improve their cultural quality so as to meet the needs of ourcountry’s social development and international exchanges. The new model requires both students and teachers to make some changes in their traditional roles of learning and teaching.
