Lesson OneThe Naval ArchitectA naval architect asked to design a ship may receive his instructions in a form ranging from such simple requirements as ―an oil tanker to carry 100 000 tons deadweight at 15 knots‖ to a fully detailed specification of precisely planned requirements. He is usually required to prepare a design for a vessel that must carry a certain weight of cargo (or number of passengers) at a specified speed with particular reference to trade requirement; high-density cargoes, such as machinery, require little hold capacity, while the reverse is true for low-density cargoes, such as grain.Deadweight is defined as weight of cargo plus fuel and consumable stores, and lightweight as the weight of the hull, including machinery and equipment. The designer must choose dimensions such that the displacement of the vessel is equal to the sum of the dead weight and the lightweight tonnages. The fineness of the hull must be appropriate to the speed. The draft (吃水)------which is governed by freeboard (干舷)rules------enables the depth to be determined to a first approximation. After selecting tentative values of length, breadth, depth, draft, and displacement, the designer must achieve a weight balance. He must also select a moment balance because centres of gravity in both longitudinal and vertical directions must provide satisfactory trim and stability. Additionally, he must estimate the shaft horsepower required for the specified speed; this determines the weight of machinery. The strength of the hull must be adequate for the service intended, detailed scantlings (frame dimensions and plate thicknesses ) can be obtained from the rules of the classification society (船级社). These scantlings (the dimensions of the structural parts of a vessel)determine the requisite (必需的)weight of hull steel. The vessel should possess satisfactory steering characteristics, freedom from troublesome vibration, and should comply with the many varied requirements of international regulations. Possessing an attractive appearance, the ship should have the minimum net register tonnage, the factor on which harbour and other dues are based. (The gross tonnage represents the volume of all closed-in spaces above the inner bottom. The net tonnage is the gross tonnage minus certain deductible spaces that do not produce revenue. Net tonnage can therefore be regarded as a measure of the earning capacity of the ship, hence its use as a basis for harbour and docking charges. ) Passenger vessels must satisfy a standard of bulkhead subdivision that will ensure adequate stability under specified conditions if the hull is pierced accidentally or through collision.Compromise plays a considerable part in producing a satisfactory design. A naval architect must be a master of approximations. If the required design closely resembles that of a ship already built for which full information is available, the designer can calculate the effects of differences between this ship and the projected ship. If, however, this information is not available, he must first produce coefficients based upon experience and, after refining them, check the results by calculation.TrainingThere are four major requirements for a good naval architect. The first is a clear understanding of the fundamental principles of applied science, particularly those aspects of science that have direct application to ships------mathematics, physics, mechanics, fluid mechanics, materials, structural strength, stability, resistance, and propulsion. The second is a detailed knowledge of past and present practice in shipbuilding. The third is personal experience of accepted methods in the design, construction, and operation of ships; and the fourth, and perhaps most important, is an aptitude (智慧)for tackling new technical problems and of devising practical solutions. The professional training of naval architects differs widely in the various maritime countries. Universitydegrees in naval architect are offered by many universities and polytechnic schools; such academic training must be supplemented by practical experience in a shipyard.Trends in designThe introduction of calculating machines and computers has facilitated the complex calculations required in naval architecture and has also introduced new concepts in design. There are many combinations of length, breadth, and draft that will give a required displacement. Electronic computers make it possible to prepare series of designs for a vessel to operate in a particular service and to assess the economic returns to the shipowner for each separate design. Such a procedure is best carried out as a joint exercise by owner and builder. As ships increase in size and cost, such combined technical and economic studies can be expected to become more common.(From ―Encyclopedia Britannica‖, V ol. 16, 1980)Technical terms1.naval architect 造船工程(设计)师naval architecture造船(工程)学2.instruction 任务书、指导书3.oil tanker 油轮4.deadweight 载重量5.knot 节6.specification 规格书,设计任务书7.vessel 船舶8.cargo 货物9.passenger 旅客10.trade 贸易11.machinery 机械、机器12.hold capacity 舱容13.consumable store 消耗物品14.lightweight 轻载重量、空船重量15.hull 船体16.dimension 尺度、量纲、维(数)17.displacement 排水量、位移、置换18.tonnage 吨位19.fineness 纤瘦度20.draft 吃水21.breadth 船宽22.freeboard 干舷23.rule 规范24.tentative 试用(暂行)的25.longitudinal direction 纵向26.vertical direction 垂向27.trim 纵倾28.stability 稳性29.shaft horse power 轴马力30.strength 强度31.service 航区、服务32.scantling 结构(件)尺寸33.frame 肋骨34.classification society 船级社35.steering 操舵、驾驶36.vibration 振动 register tonnage 净登记吨位38.harbour 港口39.dues 税收40.gross tonnage 总吨位41.deductible space 扣除空间42.revenue 收入43.docking 进坞44.charge 费用、电荷45.bulkhead 舱壁46.subdivision分舱(隔)、细分47.collision 碰撞promise 折衷、调和49.coefficient 系数50.training 培训51.fluid mechanics 流体力学52.structural strength 结构强度53.resistance 阻力54.propulsion 推进55.shipbuilding 造船56.aptitude (特殊)才能,适应性57.maritime 航运,海运58.polytechnical school 工艺(科技)学校59.academic 学术的60.shipyard 造船厂61.electronic computer 电子计算机62.owner 船主,物主63.encyclop(a)edia 百科全书Additional Terms and Expressions1.the Chinese Society of Naval Architectureand Marine Engineering (CSNAME) 中国造船工程学会2.the Chinese Society of Navigation中国航海学会3.“Shipbuilding of China‖中国造船4.Ship Engineering 船舶工程5.“Naval 安定Merchant Ships”舰船知识6.China State Shipbuilding Corporation(CSSC) 中国船舶工业总公司7.China offshore Platform EngineeringCorporation (COPECO) 中国海洋石油平台工程公司8.Royal Institution of Naval Architects(RINA) 英国皇家造船工程师学会9.Society of Naval Architects and MarineEngineers (SNAME) 美国造船师与轮机工程师协会10.Principle of naval architecture 造船原理11.ship statics (or statics of navalarchitecture) 造船静力学12.ship dynamics 船舶动力学13.ship resistance and propulsion 船舶阻力和推进14.ship rolling and pitching 船舶摇摆15.ship manoeuvrability 船舶操纵性16.ship construction 船舶结构17.ship structural mechanics 船舶结构力学18.ship strength and structural design 船舶强度和结构设计19.ship design 船舶设计20.shipbuilding technology 造船工艺21.marine (or ocean) engineering 海洋工程Note to the Text1.range from A to B 的意思为“从A到B的范围内”,翻译时,根据这个基本意思可以按汉语习惯译成中文。

体育英语期末考试Reading Comprehension,Exclusive Choice and Multiple ChoiceReading ComprehensionPassage1Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage:In the 1960s, many young Americans were dissatisfied with American society. They wanted to end the Vietnam War and to make all of the people in the U.S. epual. Some of them decided to "drop out" of American society and form their own societies . They formed utopian communities , which they called "communes," where they could follow their philosophy of "do your own thing." A group of artists founded a commune in southern Colorado called "Drop City." Following the ideas of philosopher and architect Buckminster Fuller they built domeshaped houses from pieces of old cars. Other groups, such as author Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters, the followers fo San Francisco poet Steve Gakin, and a group that called itself the Hog Farm, lived in old school huses and traveled around the United States. The Hog Farm become famous when they helped organize the Woodstock Rock Festival in 1969. Steve Gaskin's followers tried to settle down on a farm in Tennessee, but they had to leave when some members of the gruop were arrested for growing marijuana. Not all communes believed in the philosophy of "do you own thing," however . Twin Oaks , a commune founded in Virgiania in the late 1960s, was based on the ideas of psychologist B.F.Skinner. The people who lived at Twin Oaks were carefully controlled by Skinner's "conditioning" techniques to do things that were good for the community. In 1972, Italian architect Paolo Soleri began to build Arcosanti, a utopian city Arizsona where 2500 people will live closely together in one large building called an "archology" Soleri believes that people must live closely together so that they will all become one. 1、Why did some young Americans decide to "drop out" of scoiety during the 1960s? The first is the sort of brain he is born with. Human brains differ considerably, some being more capable than others. But no matter how good a brain he has to begin with, an individual will have a low order of intelligence unless he has opportunities to learn. So the second factor is what happens to the individual—the sort of environment in which he is reared. If an individual is handicapped envionmentally ,it is likely that his brain will fail to develop and he will never attainthe level of intelligence of which he is capable. The importance of environment in determining an individual's intellingence can be demonstrated by the case history of the identical twins, Peter and Mark X. Being identical, the twins had identical brains at birth, and their growth processes were the same. When the twins were three months old , their parents died, and they were placed in separate foster homes. Peter was reated by parents of low intelligence in an isolatedcommunity with poor educational pooprtunities.Mark was reared inthe home of well-to-do parents who had been to college. He was read to as a child , sent to good schools, and given every opportunity to be stimulated intellectually. This enviromental difference continued until the twins were in their late teens, when they were giben tesets to measure their intelligence. Mark's I.Q. was 125, twenty-five points higher than the average and fully forty points higher than his identical brother. Given equal opportunities , the twins , having identical brains, would have tested at roughly the same level.6、This selection can best be titled_________. 材料用量英文

材料用量英文

材料用量英文Material Quantities:To determine the quantities of materials, one must first calculate the required volume or weight. This can be achieved through various means, including using standard formulas or relying on specialized software that takes into account the project's specifications. Once the required volume or weight is determined, it is essential to factor in wastage and shrinkage, which often range between 5% to 10%, depending on the material. For e某ample, when calculating the quantity of concrete required for a foundation, one can follow these steps:。

1. Determine the dimensions of the foundation, such as length, width, and depth.2. Multiply the dimensions together to obtain the volume of the foundation in cubic meters (m³).3. Add the wastage factor to the calculated volume to account for any potential losses during construction.4. Convert the total volume into the number of concrete trucks required, assuming the capacity of each truck is known.Similarly, when quantifying the amount of steel reinforcement needed for a project, one can use the following steps:。

生长时间的英语

生长时间的英语

生长时间的英语The English Translation for "生长时间" - "Growth Period"The concept of "生长时间" in English can be translated as "growth period." It refers to the length of time that it takes for something to grow or develop, whether it be a plant, animal, or even a business. The growth period is an essential factor to consider when planning and managing various aspects of life, ranging from agriculture to personal development. In this article, we will explore the importance of the growth period and its significance in different areas. In agriculture, understanding the growth period of crops is crucial for farmers. Different plants have different growth periods, and farmers need to be aware of these timelines to ensure optimal conditions for their crops. This knowledge allows farmers to determine the best time to plant, fertilize, and harvest their crops. For example, some crops have a short growth period and can be harvested within a few weeks, while others may take several months to reach maturity. Understanding the growth period allows farmers to plan and manage their resources effectively, ensuring a successful and efficient agricultural practice. In the animal kingdom, the growth period also plays a vital role. It determines the development and maturity of various species. For instance, mammals, including humans, have a significantly longer growth period compared to insects or reptiles. Human beings, in particular, have a prolonged growth period, with childhood and adolescence lasting for many years. This extended growth period allows for the development of complex cognitive abilities, physical growth, and the acquisition of various skills. Understanding the growth period in animals helps scientists and researchers to study and better comprehend the processes of growth and development in different species. Moreover, the growth period is not limited to the natural world; it also applies to the business world. In business, the growth period refers to the time it takes for a company or organization to expand and become profitable. Every business has its unique growthperiod, and factors such as market conditions, competition, and customer demand influence its duration. Understanding the growth period is essential for entrepreneurs and business owners as it allows them to develop effective strategies for sustainable growth. It helps them identify the best time to invest in new products or services, expand their operations, or enter new markets.Furthermore, the growth period is not only relevant to the external aspects of life but also to personal development. Each individual goes through different stages of growth and development, and the duration of these stages may vary. For example, childhood is generally considered a crucial growth period for cognitive, emotional, and physical development. During this time, children acquire essential skills, knowledge, and social behaviors. Similarly, adolescence is another significant growth period characterized by hormonal changes, self-discovery, and the development of personal identity. Understanding these growth periods is essential for parents, educators, and individuals themselves, as it helps guide and support personal growth and development. In conclusion, the concept of "生长时间" in English, known as "growth period," is of great importance in various areas of life. Whether it is in agriculture, the animal kingdom, business, or personal development, understanding the growth period allows for effective planning, management, and success. By recognizing the duration and significance of the growth period, we can harness its potential and ensure the optimal growth and development of various aspects of life.。

曼昆宏观经济经济学第九版英文原版答案3(总13页)--本页仅作为文档封面,使用时请直接删除即可----内页可以根据需求调整合适字体及大小--Answers to Textbook Questions and ProblemsCHAPTER3?National Income: Where It Comes From and Where It Goes Questions for Review1. The factors of production and the production technology determine theamount of output an economy can produce. The factors of production are the inputs used to produce goods and services: the most important factors are capital and labor. The production technology determines how much output can be produced from any given amounts of theseinputs. An increase in one of the factors of production or animprovement in technology leads to an increase in the economy’soutput.2. When a firm decides how much of a factor of production to hire ordemand, it considers how this decision affects profits. For example, hiring an extra unit of labor increases output and thereforeincreases revenue; the firm compares this additional revenue to the additional cost from the higher wage bill. The additional revenue the firm receives depends on the marginal product of labor (MPL) and the price of the good produced (P). An additional unit of labor produces MPL units of additional output, which sells for P dollars per unit. Therefore, the additional revenue to the firm is P ? MPL. The cost of hiring the additional unit of labor is the wage W. Thus, this hiring decision has the following effect on profits:ΔProfit= ΔRevenue –ΔCost= (P ? MPL) –W.If the additional revenue, P ? MPL, exceeds the cost (W) of hiring the additional unit of labor, then profit increases. The firm will hire labor until it is no longer profitable to do so—that is, until the MPL falls to the point where the change in profit is zero. In the equation abov e, the firm hires labor until ΔP rofit = 0, which is when (P ? MPL) = W.This condition can be rewritten as:MPL = W/P.Therefore, a competitive profit-maximizing firm hires labor until the marginal product of labor equals the real wage. The same logicapplies to the firm’s decision regarding how much capital to hire:the firm will hire capital until the marginal product of capitalequals the real rental price.3. A production function has constant returns to scale if an equalpercentage increase in all factors of production causes an increase in output of the same percentage. For example, if a firm increases its use of capital and labor by 50 percent, and output increases by50 percent, then the production function has constant returns toscale. If the production function has constant returns to scale, then total income (or equivalently, total output) in an economy ofcompetitive profit-maximizing firms is divided between the return to labor, MPL ? L, and the return to capital, MPK ? K. That is, under constant returns to scale, economic profit is zero.4. A Cobb–Douglas production function has the form F(K,L) = AKαL1–α.The text showed that the parameter αgives capital’s share ofincome. So if capital earns one-fourth of total income, then ? = .Hence, F(K,L) = Consumption depends positively on disposable income—. the amount of income after all taxes have been paid. Higher disposable income means higher consumption. The quantity of investment goods demanded depends negatively on the real interest rate. For an investment to be profitable, itsreturn must be greater than its cost. Because the real interest rate measures the cost of funds, a higher real interest rate makes it more costly to invest, so the demand for investment goods falls.6. Government purchases are a measure of the value of goods and servicespurchased directly by the government. For example, the government buys missiles and tanks, builds roads, and provides services such as air traffic control. All of these activities are part of GDP.Transfer payments are government payments to individuals that are not in exchange for goods or services. They are the opposite of taxes: taxes reduce household disposable income, whereas transfer payments increase it. Examples of transfer payments include Social Security payments to the elderly, unemployment insurance, and veterans’benefits.7. Consumption, investment, and government purchases determine demandfor the economy’s output, whereas the factors of production and the production function determine the supply of output. The real interest rate adjusts to ensure that the deman d for the economy’s goodsequals the supply. At the equilibrium interest rate, the demand for goods and services equals the supply.8. When the government increases taxes, disposable income falls, andtherefore consumption falls as well. The decrease in consumptionequals the amount that taxes increase multiplied by the marginalpropensity to consume (MPC). The higher the MPC is, the greater is the negative effect of the tax increase on consumption. Becauseoutput is fixed by the factors of production and the productiontechnology, and government purchases have not changed, the decrease in consumption must be offset by an increase in investment. Forinvestment to rise, the real interest rate must fall. Therefore, a tax increase leads to a decrease in consumption, an increase ininvestment, and a fall in the real interest rate.Problems and Applications1. a. According to the neoclassical theory of distribution, the realwage equals the marginal product of labor. Because of diminishing returns to labor, an increase in the labor force causes themarginal product of labor to fall. Hence, the real wage falls.Given a Cobb–Douglas production function, the increase in the labor force will increase the marginal product of capital and will increase the real rental price of capital. With more workers, the capital will be used more intensively and will be more productive.b. The real rental price equals the marginal product of capital. Ifan earthquake destroys some of the capital stock (yet miraculously does not kill anyone and lower the labor force), the marginalproduct of capital rises and, hence, the real rental price rises.Given a Cobb–Douglas production function, the decrease in the capital stock will decrease the marginal product of labor and will decrease the real wage. With less capital, each worker becomesless productive.c. If a technological advance improves the production function, thisis likely to increase the marginal products of both capital andlabor. Hence, the real wage and the real rental price bothincrease.d. High inflation that doubles the nominal wage and the price levelwill have no impact on the real wage. Similarly, high inflationthat doubles the nominal rental price of capital and the pricelevel will have no impact on the real rental price of capital.2. a. To find the amount of output produced, substitute the given valuesfor labor and land into the production function:Y = = 100.b. According to the text, the formulas for the marginal product oflabor and the marginal product of capital (land) are:MPL = (1 –α)AKαL–α.MPK = αAKα–1L1–α.In this problem, α is and A is 1. Substitute in the given values for labor and land to find the marginal product of labor is andmarginal product of capital (land) is . We know that the real wage equals the marginal product of labor and the real rental price of land equals the marginal product of capital (land).c. Labor’s share of the output is given by the marginal product oflabor times the quantity of labor, or 50.d. The new level of output is .e. The new wage is . The new rental price of land is .f. Labor now receives .3. A production function has decreasing returns to scale if an equalpercentage increase in all factors of production leads to a smaller percentage increase in output. For example, if we double the amounts of capital and labor output increases by less than double, then the production function has decreasing returns to scale. This may happen if there is a fixed factor such as land in the production function, and this fixed factor becomes scarce as the economy grows larger.A production function has increasing returns to scale if an equalpercentage increase in all factors of production leads to a larger percentage increase in output. For example, if doubling the amount of capital and labor increases the output by more than double, then the production function has increasing returns to scale. This may happen if specialization of labor becomes greater as the population grows. For example, if only one worker builds a car, then it takes him a long time because he has to learn many different skills, and he must constantly change tasks and tools. But if many workers build a car, then each one can specialize in a particular task and become more productive.4. a. A Cobb–Douglas production function has the form Y = AKαL1–α. Thetext showed that the marginal products for the Cobb–Douglasproduction function are:MPL = (1 –α)Y/L.MPK = αY/K.Competitive profit-maximizing firms hire labor until its marginal product equals the real wage, and hire capital until its marginal product equals the real rental rate. Using these factsand the above marginal products for the Cobb–Douglas productionfunction, we find:W/P = MPL = (1 –α)Y/L.R/P = MPK = αY/K.Rewriting this:(W/P)L = MPL ? L = (1 –α)Y.(R/P)K = MPK ? K = αY.Note that the terms (W/P)L and (R/P)K are the wage bill and total return to capital, respectively. Given that the value of α = ,then the above formulas indicate that labor receives 70 percent of total output (or income) and capital receives 30 percent of total output (or income).b. To determine what happens to total output when the labor forceincreases by 10 percent, consider the formula for the Cobb–Douglas production function:Y = AKαL1–α.Let Y1 equal the initial value of output and Y2 equal final output. We know that α = . We also know that labor L increases by 10percent:Y 1 = Y 2 = .Note that we multiplied L by to reflect the 10-percent increase in the labor force. To calculate the percentage change in output, divide Y 2 by Y 1:Y 2Y 1=AK 0.31.1L ()0.7AK 0.3L 0.7=1.1()0.7=1.069.That is, output increases by percent. To determine how the increase in the labor force affects therental price of capital, consider the formula for the real rental price of capital R/P :R/P = MPK = αAK α–1L 1–α.We know that α = . We also know that labor (L ) increases by 10percent. Let (R/P )1 equal the initial value of the rental price ofcapital, and let (R/P )2 equal the final rental price of capitalafter the labor force increases by 10 percent. To find (R/P )2,multiply L by to reflect the 10-percent increase in the laborforce:(R/P )1 = – (R/P )2 = –.The rental price increases by the ratioR /P ()2R /P ()1=0.3AK -0.71.1L ()0.70.3AK -0.7L 0.7=1.1()0.7=1.069So the rental price increases by percent. To determine how the increase in the labor forceaffects the real wage, consider the formula for the real wage W/P :W/P = MPL = (1 – α)AK αL –α.We know that α = . We also know that labor (L ) increases by 10percent. Let (W/P )1 equal the initial value of the real wage, andlet (W/P )2 equal the final value of the real wage. To find (W/P )2, multiply L by to reflect the 10-percent increase in the laborforce:(W/P )1 = (1 – –. (W/P )2 = (1 – –.To calculate the percentage change in the real wage, divide (W/P )2 by (W/P )1:W /P ()2W /P ()1=1-0.3()AK 0.31.1L ()-0.31-0.3()AK 0.3L -0.3=1.1()-0.3=0.972That is, the real wage falls by percent.c. We can use the same logic as in part (b) to setY 1 = Y 2 = A Therefore, we have:Y 2Y 1=A 1.1K ()0.3L 0.7AK 0.3L 0.7=1.1()0.3=1.029This equation shows that output increases by about 3 percent. Notice that α < means that proportional increases to capital will increase output by less than the same proportional increase to labor.Again using the same logic as in part (b) for the change in the real rental price of capital:R /P ()2R /P ()1=0.3A 1.1K ()-0.7L 0.70.3AK -0.7L 0.7=1.1()-0.7=0.935The real rental price of capital falls by percent because there are diminishing returns to capital; that is, when capital increases, its marginal product falls. Finally, the change in the real wage is:W /P ()2W /P ()1=0.7A 1.1K ()0.3L -0.30.7AK 0.3L -0.3=1.1()0.3=1.029Hence, real wages increase by percent because the added capitalincreases the marginal productivity of the existing workers.(Notice that the wage and output have both increased by the same amount, leaving the labor share unchanged —a feature of Cobb –Douglas technologies.)d. Using the same formula, we find that the change in output is:Y 2Y 1= 1.1A ()K 0.3L 0.7AK 0.3L 0.7=1.1This equation shows that output increases by 10 percent. Similarly, the rental price of capital and the real wage also increase by 10 percent:R /P ()2R /P ()1=0.31.1A ()K -0.7L 0.70.3AK -0.7L 0.7=1.1W /P ()2W /P ()1=0.71.1A ()K 0.3L -0.30.7AK 0.3L -0.3=1.15. Labor income is defined asW P ´L =WL PLabor’s share of income is defined asWL P æèççöø÷÷/Y =WL PYFor example, if this ratio is about constant at a value of , then the value of W/P = *Y/L. This means that the real wage is roughlyproportional to labor productivity. Hence, any trend in laborproductivity must be matched by an equal trend in real wages.O therwise, labor’s share would deviate from . T hus, the first fact(a constant labor share) implies the second fact (the trend in realwages closely tracks the trend in labor productivity).6. a. Nominal wages are measured as dollars per hour worked. Prices aremeasured as dollars per unit produced (either a haircut or a unit of farm output). Marginal productivity is measured as units ofoutput produced per hour worked.b. According to the neoclassical theory, technical progress thatincreases the marginal product of farmers causes their real wageto rise. The real wage for farmers is measured as units of farmoutput per hour worked. The real wage is W/P F, and this is equalto ($/hour worked)/($/unit of farm output).c. If the marginal productivity of barbers is unchanged, then theirreal wage is unchanged. The real wage for barbers is measured ashaircuts per hour worked. The real wage is W/P B, and this is equal to ($/hour worked)/($/haircut).d.If workers can move freely between being farmers and being barbers, then they must be paid the same wage W in each sector.e. If the nominal wage W is the same in both sectors, but the realwage in terms of farm goods is greater than the real wage in terms of haircuts, then the price of haircuts must have risen relativeto the price of farm goods. We know that W/P = MPL so that W = P ?MPL. This means that PF MPLF= P H MPL B, given that the nominal wagesare the same. Since the marginal product of labor for barbers has not changed and the marginal product of labor for farmers hasrisen, the price of a haircut must have risen relative to theprice of the farm output. If we express this in growth rate terms, then the growth of the farm price + the growth of the marginalproduct of the farm labor = the growth of the haircut price.f. The farmers and the barbers are equally well off after the technological progress in farming, giventhe assumption that labor is freely mobile between the two sectorsand both types of people consume the same basket of goods. Given that the nominal wage ends up equal for each type of worker andthat they pay the same prices for final goods, they are equallywell off in terms of what they can buy with their nominal income. The real wage is a measure of how many units of output areproduced per worker. Technological progress in farming increased the units of farm output produced per hour worked. Movement oflabor between sectors then equalized the nominal wage.7. a. The marginal product of labor (MPL)is found by differentiatingthe production function with respect to labor:MPL=dY dL=13K1/3H1/3L-2/3An increase in human capital will increase the marginal product of labor because more human capital makes all the existing labor more productive.b. The marginal product of human capital (MPH)is found bydifferentiating the production function with respect to humancapital:MPH=dY dH=13K1/3L1/3H-2/3An increase in human capital will decrease the marginal product of human capital because there are diminishing returns.c. The labor share of output is the proportion of output that goes tolabor. The total amount of output that goes to labor is the real wage (which, under perfect competition, equals the marginalproduct of labor) times the quantity of labor. This quantity is divided by the total amount of output to compute the labor share:Labor Share=(13K1/3H1/3L-2/3)LK1/3H1/3L1/3=1 3We can use the same logic to find the human capital share:Human Capital Share=(13K1/3L1/3H-2/3)HK1/3H1/3L1/3=1 3so labor gets one-third of the output, and human capital gets one-third of the output. Since workers own their human capital (we hope!), it will appear that labor gets two-thirds of output.d. The ratio of the skilled wage to the unskilled wage is:Wskilled Wunskilled =MPL+MPHMPL=13K1/3L-2/3H1/3+13K1/3L1/3H-2/313K1/3L-2/3H1/3=1+LHNotice that the ratio is always greater than 1 because skilledworkers get paid more than unskilled workers. Also, when Hincreases this ratio falls because the diminishing returns tohuman capital lower its return, while at the same time increasing the marginal product of unskilled workers.e. If more colleges provide scholarships, it will increase H, and itdoes lead to a more egalitarian society. The policy lowers thereturns to education, decreasing the gap between the wages of more and less educated workers. More importantly, the policy evenraises the absolute wage of unskilled workers because theirmarginal product rises when the number of skilled workers rises.8. The effect of a government tax increase of $100 billion on (a) publicsaving, (b) private saving, and (c) national saving can be analyzed by using the following relationships:National Saving = [Private Saving] + [Public Saving]= [Y –T –C(Y –T)] + [T –G]= Y –C(Y –T) –G.a. Public Saving—The tax increase causes a 1-for-1 increase inpublic saving. T increases by $100 billion and, therefore, publicsaving increases by $100 billion.b.Private Saving—The increase in taxes decreases disposable income,Y –T, by $100 billion. Since the marginal propensity to consume (MPC) is , consumption falls by ? $100 billion, or $60 billion.Hence,ΔPrivate Saving = –$100b – (–$100b) = –$40b.Private saving falls $40 billion.c. National Saving—Because national saving is the sum of privateand public saving, we can conclude that the $100 billion taxincrease leads to a $60 billion increase in national saving.Another way to see this is by using the third equation for national saving expressed above, that national saving equals Y –C(Y –T) –G. The $100 billion tax increase reduces disposable income and causes consumption to fall by $60 billion. Sinceneither G nor Y changes, national saving thus rises by $60 billion.d. Investment—To determine the effect of the tax increase oninvestment, recall the national accounts identity:Y = C(Y –T) + I(r) + G.Rearranging, we findY –C(Y –T) –G = I(r).The left side of this equation is national saving, so the equation just says that national saving equals investment. Since national saving increases by $60 billion, investment must also increase by $60 billion. How does this increase in investment take place We know that investment depends on the real interest rate. For investment to rise, the real interest rate must fall. Figure 3-1 illustrates saving and investment as a function of the real interest rate. The tax increase causes national saving to rise, so the supply curve for loanable funds shifts to the right. The equilibrium real interest rate falls, and investment rises.9. If consumers increase the amount that they consume today, thenprivate saving and, therefore, national saving will fall. We know this from the definition of national saving:National Saving = [Private Saving] + [Public Saving]= [Y –T –C(Y –T)] + [T –G].An increase in consumption decreases private saving, so national saving falls.Figure 3-2 illustrates saving and investment as a function of the real interest rate. If national saving decreases, the supply curve for loanable funds shifts to the left, thereby raising the realinterest rate and reducing investment.10. a. Private saving is the amount of disposable income, Y – T,that is not consumed:S private= Y – T – C= 8,000 – 2,000 – [1,000 + (2/3)(8,000 –2,000)]= 1,000.Public saving is the amount of taxes the government has left over after it makes its purchases:S public= T – G= 2,000 – 2,500= –500.National saving is the sum of private saving and public saving:S national= S private+ S public= 1,000 + (500)= 500.b. The equilibrium interest rate is the value of r that clears themarket for loanable funds. We already know that national saving is 500, so we just need to set it equal to investment:S national= I500 = 1,200 – 100rSolving this equation for r, we find:r = or 7%.c. When the government increases its spending, private saving remainsthe same as before (notice that G does not appear in the S privateequation above) while government saving decreases. Putting the newG into the equations above:S private= 1,000S public= T – G= 2,000 – 2,000= 0.Thus,S national= S private+ S public= 1,000 + (0)= 1,000.d. Once again the equilibrium interest rate clears the market for loanable funds:S national= I1,000 = 1,200 – 100rSolving this equation for r, we find:r = or 2%.11. To determine the effect on investment of an equal increase in bothtaxes and government spending, consider the national income accounts identity for national saving:National Saving = [Private Saving] + [Public Saving]= [Y –T –C(Y –T)] + [T –G].We know that Y is fixed by the factors of production. We also know that the change in consumption equals the marginal propensity toconsume (MPC) times the change in disposable income. This tells us thatΔNational Saving = {–ΔT – [MPC ? (–ΔT)]} + [ΔT –ΔG]= [–ΔT + (MPC ? ΔT)] + 0= (MPC –1) ΔT.The above expression tells us that the impact on national saving of an equal increase in T and G depends on the size of the marginal propensity to consume. The closer the MPC is to 1, the smaller is the fall in saving. For example, if the MPC equals 1, then the fall in consumption equals the rise in government purchases, so nationalsaving [Y –C(Y –T) –G] is unchanged. The closer the MPC is to 0 (and therefore the larger is the amount saved rather than spent for a one-dollar change in disposable income), the greater is the impact on saving. Because we assume that the MPC is less than 1, we expect that national saving falls in response to an equal increase in taxes and government spending. The reduction in saving means that the supply of loanable funds curve will shift to the left in Figure 3-3. The real interest rate rises, and investment falls.12. a. The demand curve for business investment shifts out to theright because the subsidy increases the number of profitableinvestment opportunities for any given interest rate. The demandcurve for residential investment remains unchanged.b. The total demand curve for investment in the economy shifts out tothe right since it represents the sum of business investment, which shifts out to the right, and residential investment, whichis unchanged. As a result the real interest rate rises as inFigure 3-4.c. The total quantity of investment does not change because it isconstrained by the inelastic supply of savings. The investment tax credit leads to a rise in business investment, but an offsettingfall in residential investment. That is, the higher interest rate means that residential investment falls (a movement along thecurve), whereas the rightward shift of the business investmentcurve leads business investment to rise by an equal amount. Figure3-5 shows this change. Note thatI 1B +I 1R +I 2B +I 2R =S .13. In this chapter, we concluded that an increase in governmentexpenditures reduces national saving and raises the interest rate. The increase in government expenditure therefore crowds outinvestment by the full amount of the increase. Similarly, a tax cut increases disposable income and hence consumption. This increase in consumption translates into a fall in national saving, and theincrease in consumption crowds out investment by the full amount of the increase. If consumption depends on the interest rate, then saving will also depend on it. The higher the interest rate, the greater the return to saving. Hence, it seems reasonable to think that an increase in the interest rate might increase saving and reduce consumption. Figure 3-6 shows saving as an increasing function of the interest rate.Consider what happens when government purchases increase. At anygiven level of the interest rate, national saving falls by the change in government purchases, as shown in Figure 3-7. The figure shows that if the saving function slopes upward, investment falls by less than the amount that government purchases rises by. This happens because consumption falls and saving increases in response to the higher interest rate. Hence, the more responsive consumption is tothe interest rate, the less investment is crowded out by government purchases.14. a. Figure 3-8 shows the case where the demand for loanablefunds is stable but the supply of funds (the saving schedule)fluctuates perhaps reflecting temporary shocks to income, changes in government spending, or changes in consumer confidence. In this case, when interest rates fall, investment rises; when interestrates rise, investment falls. We would expect a negativecorrelation between investment and interest rates.b. Figure 3-9 shows the case where the supply of loanable funds(saving) is stable, whereas the demand for loanable fundsfluctuates, perhaps reflecting changes in firms’ expectationsabout the marginal product of capital. We would now find apositive correlation between investment and the interest rate—when demand for funds rises, it pushes up the interest rate, so we observe that investment and the real interest rate increase at the same time.c. If both curves shift, we might generate a scatter plot as inFigure 3-10, where the economy fluctuates among points A, B, C, and D. Depending on how often the economy is at each of thesepoints, we might find little clear relationship between investment and interest rates.d. Situation (c) seems fairly reasonable—as both the supply of anddemand for loanable funds fluctuate over time in response tochanges in the economy.。

Some people view success as wealth and material possessions, while others see it as achieving personal goals and fulfillment in life. Regardless of how success is defined, there are several key factors that can influence a person's likelihood of achieving it. In this essay, we will explore some of these factorsand discuss how they can impact an individual's chances of success. One of the most important factors that can determine a person's success is their level of education and skills. People who have a strong educational background and possess valuable skills are more likely to succeed in their chosen field. Education provides individuals with the knowledge and expertise needed to excel in their profession, while skills such as problem-solving, communication, and leadership can set them apart from their peers. Therefore, it is essential for individuals to continue learning and developing their skills throughout their lives in order to increase their chances of success.Another crucial factor that can influence a person's success is their mindset and attitude. People who have a positive and optimistic outlook on life are more likely to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. They are able to stay motivated and focused, even in the face of adversity, which can help them persevere through challenges and ultimately succeed. On the other hand, individuals with a negative mindset and defeatist attitude are more likely to give up easily and struggle to achieve success. Therefore, it is important for individuals to cultivate apositive mindset and believe in their ability to succeed in order to reach their full potential. In addition to education and mindset, another factor that can determine a person's success is their network of relationships and connections. Building strong relationships with mentors, peers, and other professionals can provide individuals with valuable support, advice, and opportunities that can help them advance in their careers. Networking can also lead to new collaborations, partnerships, and ventures that can open up new doors and possibilities for success. Therefore, it is important for individuals to cultivate a diverse and supportive network of relationships in order to enhance their chances of success.Furthermore, ambition and drive are key factors that can determine a person's success. Individuals who are ambitious and driven are more likely to set high goals, work hard, and take risks in order to achieve their desired outcomes. They are willing to put in the time and effort required to succeed, even when faced with challenges or setbacks. This determination and perseverance can help individuals overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. On the other hand, individuals who lack ambition and drive may struggle to achieve success, as they maybe more complacent and less willing to take risks or push themselves outside of their comfort zone.In conclusion, there are many factors that can determine a person's success, including education, mindset, relationships, and ambition. By focusing on developing these key factors, individuals can increase their chances of achieving their goals and reaching their full potential. Success is not guaranteed, but by working hard, staying positive, and building strong connections, individuals can greatly enhance their chances of success in any endeavor. It is important for individuals to believe in themselves and their ability to succeed, as this confidence and self-belief can be a powerful driver of success. Ultimately, success is a journey that requires dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to overcome challenges, but with the right combination of factors, anyone can achieve their definition of success.篇3There are many factors that can determine a person's success. 作文不要因为不为而说不能800字

作文不要因为不为而说不能800字

作文不要因为不为而说不能800字英文回答:As for the length of the essay, I believe that it should not be limited to a specific word count. The focus should be on the quality of the content rather than the quantity. A well-written essay can effectively convey ideas and arguments regardless of its length. It is important to remember that the purpose of an essay is to express thoughts and opinions, not to meet a specific word requirement.Additionally, setting a minimum word count can lead to unnecessary repetition and filler content. This can result in a less coherent and engaging essay. By allowing the writer to freely express their ideas without the pressure of meeting a certain word count, the essay can be more concise and impactful. Moreover, forcing an essay to be a certain length canlimit the writer's creativity and ability to fully explorea topic. Some ideas may require more explanation and analysis, while others may be more straightforward. By allowing the writer to determine the appropriate length for their essay, they can effectively communicate theirthoughts and arguments without unnecessary restrictions. In conclusion, the length of an essay should not be a determining factor of its quality. Instead, the focusshould be on the content and the ability to effectively convey ideas. A well-written essay can be concise or lengthy, as long as it effectively communicates theintended message.中文回答:至于作文的长度,我认为不应该限制在特定的字数范围内。

Total units of cloth production
Total amount of labor resources

Production Possibilities (cont.)
• In general, the economy should produce at the point that maximizes the value of production, V: V = PCQC + PFQF
• The production possibility frontier describes what an economy can produce, but to determine what the economy does produce, we must determine the prices of goods.
• If we allow substitution of inputs, then the PPF becomes curved.
♦ For example, many laborers could work on a small plot of land or a few labors could work on a large plot of land to produce the same amount of output.
• The above PPF equations do not allow substitution of land for labor in production or vice versa.

作业评价标准英语作文英文回答:Job evaluation is a systematic process of determining the relative worth or value of different jobs within an organization. It is used to develop a hierarchy of jobs and to assign appropriate compensation and benefits to each job. There are a number of different job evaluation methods, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Some of the most common methods include:Point system: This method assigns a certain number of points to each job based on a number of factors, such asthe level of skill, responsibility, and effort required. The total number of points for each job is then used to determine its relative worth.Factor comparison method: This method compares eachjob to a number of "benchmark" jobs that have beenpreviously evaluated. The benchmark jobs are selected basedon their similarity to the jobs being evaluated. The jobs are then compared on a factor-by-factor basis, and thetotal score for each job is used to determine its relative worth.Analytical method: This method involves breaking down each job into a number of smaller tasks or elements. It’s no doubt that summer and winter vacation is the most important vacation to us, teachers and students. Many people complain about it but the true is mostly of us don’t know what affect the length of our vacation.1.2Purpose of the studyIn this study, we try to find what affect the length of our vacation.1.3Significance of the studyIn our school, many students aren’t satisfied with their vacation. Because they think their vacation is shorter than other student in other school. We will find the reason and try to get their understanding.2. Methodology2.1 Research subjectsThe satisfaction of people on their vacation2.2 Research methods and proceduresWe will vote on the Internet and understand people's satisfaction and their views to their summer and winter vacations. We designed two questions: One is whether they satisfied with their vacation. The other is if they understand what factors affect the length of their vacation.2.3 Data collection and analysis2.3.1 Data collectionWe invited to the 203 people participate in our online vote.In the first question (Are you satisfied with your vacation?), there are 36 people said they are satisfied with their vacation, 12 people think they vacation is too long, 142 people complain about their short vacation and 13 people have no idea on their vacation because they believe that there is a vacation is enough.A B %70%D A B CDIn the second question(Do you know what affect the length of your vacation ?), there are 28 people very clear what affect the length of their vacation, 116 people don’t know the factors, and 59 people haven’t considered this problem .2.3.2 Data analysisCan be seen from the first result, nearly 80% of people are not satisfied with their vacation. The second result shows that nearly 60% of people don't know what affect the length of the vacation. Therefore, a lot of people complain for their vacation, but they do not know what affect the length of their vacation.3. Results and discussions3.1 Findings from the researchWe have done some search from the Internet, and summarize several following factors, which affect the length of the vacation. There is: The school cost, educational philosophy, to ease the traffic pressure, the geographical location of the school andsocial activities.3.2 Major findingsNow these factors are going to be introduced respectively.(1)The school costBy Yajing HooIt is a common phenomenon that Private universities extend the vacation for reducing the cost. For private schools, their winter vacation ranges from 32 to 50 days, such asthe vacation time for Kevin vocational college of science and technology in Shandong province from January 14 to March 1, vacation time is 46 days; the vacation time of science and technology vocational college of Shandong province, January 15 to February 25, up to 42 days. These private schools start their winter vacation on January 15, about 10 days earlier than the public universities in the province. Judging from the vacation length, there is 40-50 days for private school winter vacation, and about 35 days for public universities. The arrival of winter, the school entered its period of high investment. In fact, as winter months approaching, teaching costs are getting higher. This is the reason why many schools prefer the vacation begin early. Schools run with air conditioning for heating. Each of those classrooms has an air conditioner whose power is 2000w and each air conditioner have to work 6-8 hours a day. So schools cost least 112640 kWh of electricity per month. According to the ladder price, the school should perform the third electricity charges per household per month more than 400 degrees, under the existing electricity prices based on the fare increase of 0.3 Yuan per unit, perform 0.8469 Yuan per unit. In this way, monthly electricity costs 95000 Yuan, if winter vacation has more than a month off, school can save more than 90,000 Yuan.In other words, the nature of Shandong Xinhua Academy of computer is training institution, is not classified as "College". It belongs to the personnel department and the Labor Department supervision. For these organizations, the policy of Department of education shall not apply. Beside, most of the curricula of training institutions are more flexible, leading to the starting date of vacation is not specified.(2)Educational philosophyBy Nan NeeEducational philosophy affects the length of vacation. I will take an example to explain it. As you know, many universities have the short semester which always takes place after the summer semester, such as Peking University, RUC (Renmin University Press), Renmin University Press, our school BUCT etc. The short semester usually at least lasts two week that make our summer vocation shorter than before. But why does these universities establish the short semester? It’s all because of the influence of advanced educational philosophy. The short semester is a new education model, on which college seriously research and arrangement teaching activities in order to let students learn more knowledge and get good practical abilities. This philosophy originated in the U.S. All thedomestic colleges which have the short semester hope in line with international standards and create more opportunity to go abroad for the students. So these colleges set up the short semester so that we have a shorter summer vocation. And so I say educational philosophy can affects the length of vacation.(3)To ease the traffic pressureBy Yi Chow It is a long-held cultural belief for most Chinese people that Chinese New Year is a time to reunite with the family. People come home from work and study and have the Reunion dinner with their family on New Year's Eve. Since the Chinese economic reforms of the late 1970's, new economic opportunities have emerged outside of people's ancestral homesteads, a significant increase occurred in the amount of floating population around the country. Places such as Special Economic Zones and the wealthy coastal regions offer a sought-after lifestyle of many people. A massive migration also occurred with rural populations moving to booming urban areas. In addition, Chinese education reforms have increased the number of university students, who often study outside their hometown. So every year the traffic is very busy during the Spring Festival especially the train station. Most of the passengers are college students on their winter vacation and migrant workers returning for Spring Festival. The volume of passenger traffic will reach the maximum during that time.In order to ease the traffic pressure, many schools in some place whose passenger flows is concentrated, such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Wuhan, choosing arrange they winter vacation begin at different day. In terms of those schools in the same city, some school winter vacation will start one week earlier than other school. Beside, the start times for a new semester are also different. These phenomena cause the length of winter vacation isn’t same from one school to the other school. What will happen if every school winter vacation starting on the same day? Beijing, for example, there will be nearly 800,000 college students flock train station. There are four train stations in Beijing and it means that each station will have an enormous passenger flow for students about 200,000. The traffic pressure is too high and it’s dangerous to have too many people gathering at train station. In conclusion, in order to ease the traffic pressure, staring vacation in different time is one of the factors affect the length of vacation.(4)The geographical location of the schoolBy Liyun Shee There are some special provisions for vacation arrangement. It generally determined by the administration to the circumstance of curriculum arrangement in order to complete the teaching plan for the principle. But considering the weather factors and trying to avoid local relatively severe weather condition, causes the student to study in the right environment as far as possible. When the freezing winter is coming, northeastern university has a long time for winter vacation, in order to avoid harsh winter cold and save energy. Affected by latitude location factors, the northern winter cold time usually begin at September; it’s too cold to studentsand teachers to go to class. For example, Jilin province is located in the north. Because of the characteristic of the cold winter, for many years Jilin province continues get long winter vacation and the length of summer vacation is short for practice. (Of 47 days of winter vacation, 37 days of summer vacation. 42 days of winter vacation and 30 days of summer vacation for high school student.)Our country is monsoon climate. The climate is characterized by the rain heat over the same period. In the northern hemisphere, winter is shorter than summer leading all of the summer vacation is longer than winter vacation. In addition, the farther north, the higher the latitude, the longer the winter. So the winter vacation for the place in northeast is much longer than the place at the south of Yangtze River.Summer and winter vacation let you spend the hottest and coldest time at home rather than at school. So we can come to the conclusion that the geographical location of the school, further said that the climate and the temperature is tow of the factors that affect the length of vacation.(5)Social activitiesBy Liujuan YueThe social activities also have an influence on vacation. For example, when 2008, Beijing Olympic Games held, the summer vacation for Beijing students almost as twice as usual, from June thirtieth to September first. As the host city for 2008 Olympics, Beijing should be able to provide good services to athletes and guests from over 200 countries and regions. Thus, there was a big demanded for volunteers. In order to train volunteers and give them more time to adapt their duties. Because most of the volunteers were undergraduates, universities should provide them more convenience to serve for Olympics. Another reason for the long vacation was to relieve the stress of the city. It was known to all that Beijing was the most crowded city. Long-time vacation gave citizens more time to have a trip to other cities or other countries to make the city less crowded. Another example is Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. Many universities ahead their schedule of vacation to make students go home earlier and give time to volunteers. When the attention to the whole world gathered in Nanjing, the city shows her most beautiful elegance.3.3 Discussions and ConclusionsAfter our discussion, we think that the teaching cost and school teaching ideas are the main factors influencing the length of the vacation. The geographical location of the school and for traffic considering are the minor factors that affect the length of vacation. The probability that vacation is affected by the social activity is small. It doesn’t often happen and it only happens in a particular place. (The Olympic Games just held in Beijing.)1In the End of Study4.1 LimitationsOur study is based on the university vacation, primary and secondary schoolvacation is not considered.4.2 SuggestionsWhen school release its vacation arrangement, it should let people know the reason of this arrangement at the same time. What we should do is understand why the vacation is arranged like that rather complain the arrangement but have no idea on our mind.。
