人教版高中英语教案Unit 1 Women of achievement

Unit 1 Women of achievementThe first period: Warming up and readingThe rules concluded in the earlier unit can be applied here to identify great women. Students should be encouraged to discuss what these great women did was useful for other people, and what problems they had to overcome or what they had to give up to achieve these ambitions.Important points: let students learn about great women and their achievements in different fields in the world, and get students to read the passage and learn different reading skills.Difficult points: how to develop students` reading skills and talk about women of achievement.Knowledge aims: get students to learn useful new words and expressions: achievements, welfare, project, institute, specialist, connection, campaign, organization, behave, behavior, shade, worthwhile, nest, bond, observe, observation, childhood, outspoken, respect, argue, argument, entertainment, crowd, inspire, support, human beings, move off, lead a ….. life, crowd inStep 1 Leading inHave a free talk with students. Ask them the following questions:1) Do you know any great people or important people?2) What makes a great person?(clever, brave, determined, confident, hard-working, unselfish, kind, generous. ) Step 2 warming up1. Show some pictures of women for students to guess who they are and then talk about them.1). Joan of Arc (1412-1431), FranceShe was born in France, a girl from the countryside who dressed as a man and went to fight for the French and to drive the English out of France. She was caught and put to death by the English.2). Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845), BritainShe was a Quaker. She helped improve prison conditions and gave prisoners work and education. Her work helped the Quakers get the Nobel Peace Prize in 1947.3). Song Qingling (1893-1981), ChinaShe was Dr Sun Yat-sun`s wife, was one of the top leaders in modern Chinese history. She concentrated herself with welfare projects, leading China Welfare Institute especially for women and children.4). Lin Qiaozhi (1901-1983), ChinaShe was a Chinese, a doctor who became a specialist in women`s illness. She devoted all her life to medical work for Chinese women and children. Her work encouraged many other women to become doctors.5). Jane Goodall (1934- ), BritainAs a young girl, she always wanted to study animals. She went to Africa and studied chimps. Her research showed the connections between chimps(猩猩) and human beings. She works to protect chimps everywhere.6). Jody William (1950- ),USAShe is American. She helped found an international campaign to stop the use of landmines. She worked hard to make as many countries as possible agree not to use them. She and her organization were given the Noble Peace Prize in 1997.2. Let students read the following and examine the six women using the rules3. Have a discussion in pairs what they have in common and what makes them great and give their reasons. For reference:As great women, they don`t care for themselves at all, and at some point or rather, they must give some sacrifices, just like Lin Qiaozhi, she devoted all her life to medical work for Chinese women and children and had chosen not to have a family of her own. Instead, she made sure that about 50,000 babies were safely delivered totheir mothers. Not all people can do this. Once they have chosen their careers, they would carry on with them without any withdrawal. What they did is encouraging thousands of people to continue their careers. Those who are only famous but not great can`t matched.Step 3 Pre-leadingAsk students to answer some questions to lead in the new text. What do you think Jane Goodall went to Africa to study chimps rather than to university? Do you think she is right? Give some reasons. After a glance the title, what do you think the passage is about?Where doo you think the photos were taken? What do you think of when you see the pictures?Step 4 Reading1. Fast reading.Let students have a discussion and answer the following questions:1). Who is the students?(Jane Goodall.)2). What animals are observed?(Chimps.)3). Where did Jane Gooodall arrive at Gombe?(She arrived at Gombe in East Africa.)4. What did Jane do in the forest?(She studied the animals in the forest.)5). What is the writer doing in the forest?(She is watching the chimps wake up.)2. Intensive reading: ask them to read the text carefully and do some exercises.2). Choose the best answers after reading the passage.(1).What did the group do first in the morning? They -------.A. went into the forest slowlyB. left the chimp family sleeping in a treeC. observed the family of chimps wake upD. helped people understand the behavior of the chimps(2). Why did Jane go to Africa to study chimps in the wild? Because she wanted to -------.A. work with them in their own environmentB. prove the way people think about chimps was wrongC. discover what chimps eatD. observe a chimp family(3). Jane was permitted to begin her work after ------.A. the chimp family woke upB. she lived in the forestC. her mother came to help herD. she arrived at Gombe(4). The purpose of her study was to --------.A. watch the wild chimps in cagesB. gain a doctor`s degreeC. understand and respect the lives of chimpsD. live in the forest as man can(The answers: CACC)3. Reading and discussing:Read and then discuss the following questions:What do you think Jane is called a student of African wildlife? What did Jane have to give up when she went to live in the forest?Do you thin it is important to study chimps in the wild rather than in the zoo?Do you think you will go if you are asked to study animals in the wild? Why or why not?4. Help students analyze some long, difficult sentences and guess the meaning of some new words and expressions according to the text: achievements, welfare, project, institute, specialist, connection, campaign, organization, behave, behavior, shade, worthwhile, nest, bond, observe, observation, childhood, outspoken, respect, argue, argument, entertainment, crowd, inspire, support, human beings, move off, lead a ….. life, crowd inStep 5 ConsolidationSome questions for them to answer:Did you think the reading interesting?Who do you think was telling the story?Would you prefer that it was written by Jane? Why?Step 6 Closing down by discussingLet students discuss the following questions:1). What should we learn from Jane Goodall?2). What made her a great success?3). What do you think is the best way to protect the wildlife? For reference:(Wisdom and courage; deeply love for the animals; her consideration; her hard work.We think there are two points that made her successful. One is her way to study chimps, and the other is her true love for the animals. The first one is facile, because it is only a way. Everyone can do it. But for the second one, it is more easily said than done. As a woman, she gave up everything, went to the forest to study the chimps and devoted all her love to these animals. It is really not easy. What we cannot understand is that how she has such a great personality. We should call for all the citizens to love animals, protect their living conditions, forbid hunters to kill them freely, build more natural reserves for them and we should not disturb them. The national wildlife protection parks shouldn`t be open to the tourists.Step 7 HomeworkLearn the useful new words and expressions by heart.Read the reading passage again and try to write something about Jane Goodall. The second period: Learning about language: Important language points The emphasis of this period will be placed on the important new words, expressions and sentence patterns in the parts Warming up, Pre-reading, Reading and comprehending. In order to make students understand these important points thoroughly, we can first get students to understand their meanings in the context, then give some explanations about them, and later offer some practice to make students master their usages.Important points: enable students to grasp the usage of such important new words and expressions as campaign, behave, respect, argue, support, move off, lead a ….. life, crowd in, etc. And some patterns:Following Jane`s way of studying chimps, our group are all going to visit them in the forest.Watching a family of chimps wake up is our first activity of the day.Only after her mother came to help her for the first few months was she allowed to begin her project.Difficult points: get students to understand some difficult and long sentences.Knowledge aim: 1). get students to learn and grasp the important and useful new words and expressions: achievements, welfare, project, institute, specialist, connection, campaign, organization, behave, behavior, shade, worthwhile, nest, bond, observe, observation, childhood, outspoken, respect, argue, argument, entertainment, crowd, inspire, support, human beings, move off, lead a ….. life, crowd in 2). 高中英语 Unit1 Women of achievement教学设计 新人教版必修4-新人教版高一

Unit 1 Women of achievementPeriod 1 Warming up&Speaking一、内容及其解析1内容:本单元中心话题是Women of achievement “伟大女性〞。
