Healthy Eating for Lifetime: Variety, Balance and Moderation (适度)
A healthy diet includes all foods. Variety is important because no food can provide all the nutrients(营养) the body needs for health. Try new foods to tantalize your taste and vary your nutrient in take.
We can make many possible choices within each food group. Choices may be made to accentuate (强调)specific needs like fibre. For example, in the protein-rich (蛋白质丰富的)“meat” group, beans are a low fat, high fibre option compared to ground beef. In the fruit group, fruit is usually a higher fibre choice than fruit juice.
Foods containing important nutrients can help us prevent disease and even restore (恢复)our health. Choose foods that are better for your health more often.
Without doubt, fats and cholesterol (胆固醇)are the single most important group of nutrients to limit in your diet if you want to reduce your risk of chronic (慢性的) diseases. Heart disease and cancer, two of this nation's leading killers, are linked to diets high in fat. Other chronic health problems may be exacerbated (加重, 恶化)by high fat diets. Saturated fat (饱和脂肪), that is, fat that is solid at room temperature, appears to carry the greatest amount of risk.
Alcohol is not pictured on the food pyramid, but if it were, it would be in the tip of the pyramid. Alcohol has only empty calories (无营养价值的热量)in the way that sugar and most fats do. Pregnant women should avoid alcohol beverages (酒水).
Foods and beverages that are less nutritious do not have to be eliminated (淘汰)but they should be consumed in moderation—saved for special occasions. Making
healthy food choices can be the difference between health and disease.
Tips On How To Make Healthier Meals
Begin by choosing foods low in saturated fat, low in sodium (納盐)and low in calories:
•Try fat free (skim)milk or low fat (1 %)milk.
•Only buy cheeses (奶酷)marked “low fat” or “fat free” on the package.
•Choose to eat fruits and vegetables without butter (黄油)or sauce (酱油)•
•Serve rice, beans, cereals (谷类), pasta (面团), whole grains [e. g.,couscous (蒸粗麦粉), bar- ley (大麦), bulgur (焦干碎麦), etc. ].
•Choose lean cuts (精肉切块)of meat, fish, and skinless turkey (火鸡)and chicken.
•When available (可买到的), buy low-sodium or reduced-sodium (低盐的)or no-salt-added versions of foods.。
