On the whole, math is one of the most important courses in China, so most schools take it seriously. There are about 7 classes each week. More often than not, the teacher will explain the basic knowledge and ask the students to learn it by heart. In order to help the students learn math well, some more exercises are requested after class. In this way, students can really master the skills of what they have learned in class. Apart from this, some students would rather spend extra time studying math further.
Don’t worry. I believe you can easily fit into the Chinese family.
Yours, Li Hua
Notice In order to learn more about the development of our school, all the students are welcome to watch the short film Growing Together, which is a documentary on the history of our school. Produced by our teachers and us senior students, it reflects years of hard work. If you are curious about the history of our school or concerned about its future, you mustn’t miss this excellent opportunity! We encourage any kind of feedback on the film from our viewers. It will be shown in Room 1, First Teaching Building, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, June 10, Sunday. We are looking forward to your participation.
In a word, nothing happens by accident. It is because of our devotion to math that we have made great progress on it.
Yours, Li Hua
Dear Tom, It has been a while since my last talk to you, and I
First and foremost, you are supposed to arrive at your friend’s house 5 to 10 minutes earlier. Additionally, to bring a suitable present is a good choice. You can take some fruit or flowers. Last but not least, you had better eat the food in front of you in that putting your chopsticks in front of others is considered a bad manner. Always keep in mind that you can’t be too talkative when you are eating.
Hopefully, these suggestions will be helpful for you. Best wishes!
Yours, Li Hua
Dear Terry, I learn from your last letter that you are going to
pay a visit to your Chinese friend. Here are several relevant details you have to pay attention to.
Since some people are very cautious about time, I strongly advise you to arrive 5 to 10 minutes earlier. You may take a gift with you, but it doesn’t have to be something of great value. It makes sense to take some fruit with you. And you’d better practice using chopsticks in advance or let them know ahead of time that you need a fork or spoon.

Dear Tom, It has been a while since my last talk to you, and I
would love to answer your questions concerning how math is taught and learnt in our high schools.
would love to answer your questions concerning how math is taught and learnt in our high school.
A typical Chinese high school student usually has seven to eight math classes per week, in which teachers often address key points and the most common problems they have found in students’ homework. Due to teachers’ immediate feedback, most students are able to have a good command of their learning materials, even though the workload is quite huge. Besides homework, some students also manage to spend extra time reviewing what they have learned in class and get their notes organized. While the revision style varies, there is a common belief among students that math is of great importance.
Personally, I think it is such a good opportunity for high school students that it can help them develop an international outlook and learn to be independent. So high school students should be encouraged to go on international study tours if their parents can afford it.
I hope these suggestions would be of benefit to you. Yours, Li Hua
Dear Terry, How are you doing these days? I hear you are
invited to dinner at your Chinese friend’s house. As for this, I don’t think there is much for you to pay attention to. However, I do have a few suggestions for you.
Firstly, I would like to suggest that you arrive 5 to 10 minutes earlier, which is common in Chinese traditional culture. Secondly, if I were you, I would bring some gifts with me, such as souvenirs from my own country. Besides, table manners are also what you should pay attention to. For example, you are not supposed to stick your chopsticks into your food. Instead, laying them on your dish is a smart choice.

However, it will cost parents a lot of money to send their kids abroad. And students often pay more attention to travelling than learning. That is why some people say it is a waste of time and money.
Hope this is helpful, and let me know if you have other questions.
Yours Li Hua
