It is about a Christmas gift that one of my wonderful memories is. Unlike other
gifts, it came without wrap(包装).
On September 11th, 2008, Mum gave birth to Richard. After she brought him
home from hospital, she put him in my lap, saying, "I promised you a gift, and here
it is." What an honor! I turned four a month earlier and none of my friends had
such a baby doll of their own. I played with it day and night. I sang to it. I
told it stories. I told it over and over how much I loved it!
One morning, however, I found its bed empty. My doll was gone! I cried for it.
Mum wept (哭泣)and told me that the poor little thing had been sent to a hospital.
It
had a fever. For several days, I heard Mum and Dad whispering such words as “hopeless”, “pitiful”, and “dying”, which sounded ominous.
Christmas was coming. “Don’t expect any presents this year,” Dad said, pointing at the socks I hung in the living room. “If your baby brother lives,
that’ll be Christmas e nough.”As he spoke, his eyes filled with tears. I’d never
seen him cry before.
The phone rang early on Christmas morning. Dad jumped out of bed to answer it.
From my bedroom I heard him say, “What? He’s all right?” He hung up and shouted upstairs. “The hospital said we can bring Richard home!”
“Thank God!” I heard Mum cry.
From the upstairs window, I watched my parents rush out to the car. I had never
seen them so happy. And I was also full of joy. What a wonderful day! My baby doll
would be home. I ran downstairs. My socks still hung there flat. But I knew they
were not empty; they were filled with love!

Many shopping malls now have special areas that offer shoppers their first chance to experience “VR technology”. You may have entered one out of curiosity, or you may think it is just another piece of useless technology. Whatever your opinion,
VR, or virtual(虚拟的)reality, is going to become a big part of our lives very soon.
2016 saw the introduction of many fancy products in the world of VR, including Microsoft's HoloLens and Samsung's Gear VR. All of them offer an exciting look at the new realities and opportunities that VR brings.
These, however, are the early days of a technology that is expected to go from strength to strength. And 2017 looks like it is going to be the year in which VR technology really takes off.
For a start, using VR will become more normal in 2017. Microsoft and Intel have already discussed their plans for simpler and less expensive VR headsets.
“The idea of VR will stop being a sci-fi (science-fiction) idea, and instead it will turn into an industry of real products used as ways to show off imaginati on.” said Andrew, a designer at US VR Company, Survios.
It is also expected that VR products will play a part in more common and real-life fields like fashion and film. For example, to enjoy the atmosphere and energy of the front row experience at a fashion show, fans will no longer have to go along in the flesh. Instead people will be able to enjoy the experience by just wearing a VR headset at home.
You can also expect VR mirrors and fitting-rooms sooner rather than later. '' This is an especially good opportunity for brands looking to offer very personalized experiences.'' said Roy DeYoung from US-based marketing agency, PMX.
As time goes on, there will be less discussion about whether people will acce p t VR technology. It will simply be a discussion of when.
8. Why do many shopping malls have areas for VR experiences?
A. To collect shoppers'
opinions.
B. To meet the demands of shoppers.
C. To introduce the new technology to shoppers.
D. To entertain shoppers with new technology.
9. The underlined phrase “in the flesh” can be replaced by_ .
A. in time
B. in person
C. in line
D. in order
10. What can we learn about VR products from the passage?
A. They are cheap for the time being
B. They are being used almost everywhere.
C. They won't be accepted for many years.
D. They will meet more personal demands.
11. What may be the best title for the passage?
A. VR Takes Over Fashion
B. VR Mirror Are Around The Corner
C. VR Is Becoming Real
D. VR Meets Our Life Goal

There's a curious thing about people. All of us are driven in some way or another to achieve—we want to run faster, be more creative, win more awards, and earn more money. But here's the thing: if you want to offer warm words of wisdom, constructive criticism or "360-degree feedback", then think again. Most of us would rather not hear
it.
Our easily-broken egos(自尊心)are partly to blame. We all want to meet our own expectations of ourselves, and so being criticized can present a huge threat to our egos.
Yet as decades of psychological theory and research have indicated, people have endless tricky strategies of remaining positive in the face of criticism. For this reason, rather than us welcoming feedback with open arms, our first response is often an automatic defense. These reactions serve to make us feel better about ourselves.
Psychological research exposes this unhealthy appetite for ignorance. In one study, students watched a false educational film about a serious disease called "TAA Deficiency". In fact, TAA Deficiency is completely fictional, but the students were not told this information; instead, they were asked whether they wished to provide a
cheek test for assessing (评估)t heir risk of developing the disease. Half of the
students were told that if they ever developed TAA Deficiency, then the treatment would involve them taking a two-week course of pills. Of this group,52% agreed to provide the cheek test. The other half of students learned the treatment would involve taking the pills for the rest of their lives. Of this group, only 21% agreed to the test.
These findings show a common pattern seen in other studies within and beyond the context of healthcare. That is, people are especially resistant to hearing feedback when they believe it could force them to do something difficult or unpleasant.
12. What can we infer from paragraph 1?
A. People should be satisfied with what they have.
B. People should offer constructive criticism.
C. People should be cautious when giving advice.
D. People should care less about others.
13. How do people usually react when facing criticism?
A. They try to avoid it.
B. They deal with it seriously.
C. They tend to fight against others.
D. They turn to psychological theory.
14.Why didn't most of the second group agree to the test?
A. They didn't believe in the result.
B. They knew there wasn't such a disease.
C. They were sensitive to the negative
result. D. They didn't agree with the test.
15.What can be the best title for the
passage?
A. Meeting Criticism
B. Rethinking Feedbacks
C. Improving Healthcare
D. Fighting TAA Deficiency

作文:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m writing to you to apply for a school loan. I have much financial difficulty in continuing my study.
There are four people in my family. My father is the only one who earns money for the family. My mother was laid off two years ago. My grandmother has been suffering a serious illness for more than five years. I took part-time jobs during the summer vacation, but what I have earned is far from enough for me to pay the required tuition fees. In order to continue my study, I have to apply for a school loan.
If I can get the loan, I will make good use of the money and put heart into study.
I will definitely pay back the loan according to the requirements.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li。
