The Camel The camel is one of the oldest domesticated animals. Its hump stores fat, not water. This fat is used as a source of energy when food is limited. Baby camels are born without a hump. They can go without water for up to two months. A thirsty camel can drink 151 liters (40 gallons) of wateh zebra has its own unique stripe pattern,like human finger prints. When in a herd, the stripes merge into a big mass and make it hard for predators to single out individual animals. Their stripy coat is believed to disperse more than 70% of heat, preventing them from overheating while in the sun.
