第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)Eco-Resort Management
Ecotourism is often regarded as a form of nature-based tourism and has become an important alternative source of tourists. In addition to providing the traditional
resort-leisure product, it has been argued that ecotourism resort(度假村) management should have a particular focus on best-practice environmental management. Couran Cove Resort is such a tourist attraction located on South Stradbroke Island, Australia.
Sustainable(可持续的) Practices of Couran Cove Resort
South Stradbroke Island is separated from the mainland by the Broadwater, which is home to a wide range of plant communities. Located on the offshore island, the Resort is only accessible by means of water transportation. It provides hourly ferry service from the harbour on the mainland to and from the island. Within the Resort, transport modes include walking trails, bicycle tracks and the beach train. The reception area is the counter of the shop which has not changed in 8 years at least. The accommodation is an octagonal(八角形的) building. These are large rooms that are clean but the equipment is old and in some cases just working. The ceiling fan only works at high speed for example. Beds are hard but clean. There is a television, a radio, an old air conditioner and a small fridge in each room.
As an ecotourism-based resort, most of the planning and development of the attraction has been concentrated on the need to co-exist with the natural environment of South Stradbroke Island to achieve sustainable development.
Water and Energy Management
There is groundwater at the centre of the island, which has a maximum height of 3 metres above sea level. The water supply is recharged by rainfall and is commonly known as an freshwater aquifer(含水层). Couran Cove Island Resort obtains its water supply by tapping into this aquifer and collecting it through a pipe. In order to narrow the water uses, all laundry activities are carried out on the mainland. The Resort uses
LPG power station rather than a fuel oil station for its energy supply, supplemented(补充) by wind power, which has reduced greenhouse emissions by 70%. Hot water in the eco-cabins and for some of the Resort‟s vehicles is
solar-powered. Water efficient fittings are also installed in showers and toilets. Visitors who stay at the Resort are encouraged to monitor their water and energy usage by an
in-house television system, and are rewarded with prizes (such as a free return trip to the Resort) accordingly if their usage level is low.
Evaluation
In three years of operation, Couran Cove Island Resort has won 23 international and national awards. It has effectively implemented contemporary environmental management practices. However, the Resort‟s growth will eventually be limited by its carrying capacity, and quantity control should be incorporated in the management strategy of the Resort.

C.provides high quality accommodation
D.operates in harmony with its natural surroundings
2、What is applied for heating water on Couran Cove Island Resort?
A.The LPG power. B.The petro power.

3、According to the study, in the future what should the Resort focus on? A.Increasing the supply of fresh water.
B.Meeting the need of international guests.

22.(8分)The philosopher Robert Nozick used the idea of an “experience machine”
to refute the view that good experiences are all we want from life. He thought that most of us would not choose the machine and prefer reality. “But why?” he encouraged us to ask.
There was no such thing as virtual(虚拟的)reality (VR) when he was writing. But now we can give ourselves computer generated experiences that are like the real thing. The question raised by Nozick has become a real issue. Why should you prefer the trouble and expense of actually visiting Angkor Wat or Niagara Falls when you can get all the experiences of being there by putting on goggles and a body suit?
One answer is that the emotions you feel when you have a virtual experience are not as valuable. When you actually see Niagara Falls, you feel awe and even fear in the face of an overpowering force of nature. Being in the presence of something that causes you these feelings is part of the pleasure.
Visiting a virtual Niagara Falls may also cause you feelings of awe and fear but they are cheapened by your knowledge that the danger is not real and that your mind is being tricked into thinking that it is.
Reality also holds a potential for making discoveries that virtual reality lacks. Those who visit Angkor Wat hope to see more than they expected from tourist information, perhaps even discover what have been missed. Computer simulations(模拟), however good, contain only what have been put into them.
There is a further reason for preferring a real experience. Real experiences connect us to the deeds of past people and place us in contexts where history was made. Viewing an actual paining by Rembrandt is a more valuable experience than viewing a copy, however good. The genuine painting was the work of the man himself. We see his brush strokes on the canvas. We are in the presence of genius.
Virtual reality can take us to places we can never go. It can be exciting, amusing and a good way of spending leisure time. But it will be a substitute for connections with the real thing.
1、What does the underlined word “refute” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Contradict. B.Express.
C.Prove. D.Correct.
2、What does the author think of virtual reality?
A.It can benefit people in certain aspects.
B.It will be smart enough to satisfy our needs.
C.It cannot cause feeling of fear or happiness.
D.It cannot help us understand what has happened.
3、Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.What VR Cannot Offer.
B.How VR Change Our Life.
C.How VR Is Different from Reality.
D.Why VR Cannot Match the Real Thing.
23.(8分)When hospital staff are in full scrubs(手术衣),their faces are almost completely covered by their caps and face masks, and we can only see their eyes and eyebrows. In order to solve the problem, a doctor in Sydney, Australia, called Rob Hackett launched a campaign named “ Theatre((手术室) Cap Challenge”- encourage hospital staffs to write their'names and roles on their caps. At first, his colleagues didn't take it seriously. However, with time going on, it has been adopted around the world with studies from the US and UK reporting how this simple idea can decrease human errors in healthcare.
“I went to a theatre where there were about 20 doctors and nurses in the room,” Dr. Rob Hackett said. "I struggled to even ask to be passed some gloves because the person I was pointing to thought I was pointing to the person behind them, because I don’t know their names. "said Rob. As we all know, doctors are a stressful profession. When faced with life and death, they need to save the patient's life for a second. At the moment, effective communications are important.
“The ‘Theatre Cap Challenge’ is in response to concerns about how easily avoidable mistakes and poor communication are contributing to rising harmful events for our patients.” said Rob. "We need to develop systems which reduce mistakes and misunderstanding without causing harm. For this to happen, we need to let everyone know we’re human. ”he added On the other hand, from the patients' viewpoint, caps with names on them can make patients more unworried. When everyone appears the
same, it is extremely difficult to distinguish who is who. Knowing them relaxed.
1、What can we learn from paragraph1?
A.Hospital staff are asked to cover their faces in hospitals.
B.Rob is in favor of writing names and roles on caps
C.Rob wanted to be a professional doctor.
D.Rob's idea can increase human errors in healthcare.
2、What c an we know about the“Theatre Cap Challenge”from the text?
A.It can make the caps more fashionable.
B.It is strongly opposed to by all the doctors and nurses
C.It aims to avoid mistakes and poor communication.
D.It can help people pass some gloves in a theatre.
3、Which of the following best explains“we're human”underlined in paragraph3? A.We’re generous.B.We’re negative.
C.We’re satisfied.D.We’ re kind

24.(8分)Language learning apps are very popular now and offer opportunities to learn vocabulary and practice grammar. But there has been a discussion about just how effective such apps can be.
Among the most popular apps are Duolingo and Busuu. A previous research found positive results on the use of them. But it mainly concentrated on studies with learners who had signed up to language courses and these apps worked as an after-class support, so the results were not always reliable. A recent study of 4,095 Busuu users has been carried out aimed to find out if users can actually learn a language with an app.
Busuu provides learning materials for 12 different languages. It offers special model where some content is available for free while some content is not. We find that its users are an even mix of men and women. More than half consider themselves to be at the beginner level as there is a decrease in users as their language levels go up. Most people use the app because of personal interest, or because they want to study or live abroad. Female users tend to use it less often but for longer periods of time than male users.
Getting any feedback on Busuu depends on whether your answer is correct or not. While it is helpful, this is not the sort of feedback language teachers prefer, as it does not explain why the answer is right or wrong. In spite of this, feedback in the app is very highly rated.
More than 92% of respondents state that the app has met their expectations and 86% rate the app as very good or good. In fact, more than 80% of the users surveyed strongly agree that using the app has helped them improve their knowledge of the language they are learning.
Besides, language learning apps also create an environment where mistakes are only known to the users, and this can address the performance anxiety that many learners suffer from when asked to speak a foreign language. So language teachers should encourage their students to use them to do the grammar work, leaving precious class time for more language communication.
1、The results of the former research weren’t always dependable because _________. A.it was only carried out before class
B.it didn’t consider users in class
C.it just focused on positive results
D.it used out-of-date methods
2、What can we learn about the app Busuu from the text?
A.All the contents are free to use.
B.Most users consider it satisfying.
C.It’s used by more advanced learners.
D.It’s more popular with female learners.
3、Which of the following can probably replace the underlined word “address”? A.deal with B.write down
C.turn to D.speak of
4、What is the main idea of the text?
A.Students won’t suffer anxiety in learning languages by using Busuu.
B.Language learning apps are effective and satisfactory to language learners. C.Language learning apps are very popular with most language teachers. D.Students should be required to use apps for homework after class.
25.(10分)Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens are to start a war on gray-headed
flying foxes. These super bats have invaded one of Australia’s mos t famous public spaces. Officials have said the animals are destroying trees and have to move on.
These unwanted guests at Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens look like tiny foxes with wings. Officials have estimated there are about 11,000 of them living in the picturesque harbor-side park. After inspecting damage to dozens of trees they now believe there are twice as many as previously thought. Branches have been breaking under the weight of these furry invaders and their droppings have been poisoning plants.
Help may well be at hand, however, in the shape of the ordinary garbage bin. The gardens’ director Dr. Tim Entwistle hopes the unpleasant sounds of crashing bin lids
will agitate the flying foxes and force them to move on. “The way to disturb them is to use noises, so we’ve used the loud noises made by rubbish bins in the past. You can also use speakers as long as you move the noise around, and what we’ll do is have a series of noises, at the beginning and end of the day. What we’ve found in the past is that the flying foxes leave the gardens and go somewhere else,” said Tim.
The gray-headed flying fox is Australia’s largest bat. It flies around at night using its eyes and a powerful sense of smell to search for fruit and flowers. Officials at the Royal Botan ic Gardens in Sydney have said they’re optimistic the unwelcome colony can be uprooted. If and when the bats do move to other parts of the city they will of course then become someone else’s problem.
1、According to the passage, Why do people want to get rid of the flying foxes ? A.Because the garden are important public places.
B.Because they are polluting the city.
C.Because many garbage bins have been damaged by them.
D.Because they’re threatening the survival of trees and other plants.
2、In order to get rid of the flying foxes, what are people doing?
A.They are shooting them.
B.They are using rubbish containers.
C.They are shaking the trees hard.
D.They are cutting some trees down.
3、Which of the following can replace the underlined “agitate” in Paragraph 3? A.Excite B.kill
C.disturb D.discourage
4、What does the writer imply from the last paragraph?
A.The bats will still stay in the gardens.
B.Some area will have to deal with the bats.
C.The grey-headed flying fox often eat trees
D.The damage caused by the bats is serious
