One day, I was waiting for my husband when I saw the most beautiful Cadillac(卡迪拉克) pull in the parking lot.A pretty female driver pulled into the spot beside our car. There was an obvious similarity to Liz Taylor. Her eyes were as blue as the sea, and teeth like an even row of pearls. A few minutes later, a nice looking man entered her car, leaned(倾斜) over and kissed her and she drove away.
Sitting there, I wanted to cry.How could some people have it all?
Then it became almost routine to see her about once a week. She seemed friendly and always waved, flashing a big smile. My envy(嫉妒) continued to exist long after she drove away.
A couple of weeks later, sitting in our usual parking lot, I was holding a book, watching her over the top of it.Her husband came to the car, took her arm and helped her out of the car. I could see very well as she moved to get out.She unsteadily walked around to the passenger side very slowly, leaning on a walking cane.Sitting sideways. She lifted one leg with her hands and then the other. The beautiful lady had a prosthesis(假肢) on the left leg and a brace(支持物) on the right leg.
I couldn't watch them drive away as the tears were blinding me.Through my tears, I told my husband about the beautiful lady.He said he knew her husband and the story. The lady and her parents were in a car that got caught on the railroad tracks and was hit by a train. Both parents were killed and she was severely injured. She was only 12 years old.The railroad made a large settlement with her because the crossing had no signals. He explained her car was specially built for her needs as well as the home.
I prayed for forgiveness all the way home. The lady I thought had everything I didn't.I realized how lucky I was to have my parents, the ability to walk, run or dance through life and many wonderful things money can’t buy.I would not have traded places with the beautiful lady f or anything.
When you meet a person who seems to be much better off than you, don’t be fooled.

Those who are used to looking through thousands of books in big bookstores may find Japan’s Morioka Shoten a little strange. That’s because this tiny bookstore that is located in luxury(奢侈的) shopping district of Ginza, in Tokyo offers just one title to its customers.
Opened in May 2015, Morioka Shoten(Japanese for bookstore)is the brainchild of Yoshiyuki Morioka. The experienced bookseller began his career as a bookstore clerk in Tokyo’s Kanda district before branching out to open his own store. It was here while organizing book readings that he realized that customers usually came into the store with one title in mind.Morioka began to wonder if a store could exist by selling many copies of just one single book.In November 2014, he cooperated with his two friends, to set up a unique bookstore with the idea: “A Single Room, A Single Book.”
Like its offering, the bookstore is simple. The selections that are picked by Morioka change weekly and vary widely to attract customers with different interests. Recent choices include The True Deceiver, all award-winning Swedish novel by Tove Jansson, Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales. and a collection of artist Karl Blossfeldt’s photography of plants. Morioka has also displayed books written by famous Japanese authors Mimei Ogawa and Akito Akagi.
To highlight his single offering, Morioka often uses clever methods. For example, when selling a book about flowers, he decorated his shop with the ones that had been mentioned in the book.He also encourages featured authors to hold multiple talks and discussions so they can connect with customers.Morioka says his final goal is for the customers to experience being inside a book, not just a bookstore!
Risky(冒险的) as the idea might seem, things appear to be going well.Morioka says he has sold over 2,100 books since he opened it.Things can only get better since his bookstore is becoming increasingly popular not just among the locals but also visitors from other countries.

A. It is located in the busy shopping district.
B. It is huge with various books to choose.

A. The practice he used to select books.
B. The way he cooperated with his friends.

D. The experience of organizing book readings.
30. How does Morioka highlight the weekly offered book?
A. By offering flowers to customers.
B. By organizing meetings between writers and readers.
C. By explaining the managing of bookstores.
D. By encouraging readers to read widely.
31. What does the author think of Morioka’ s bookstore?
A. Optimistic.
B. Unrealistic.
C. Boring.

When it comes to drinking, cus toms are different from county to country. In Britain, it’s bottoms up(干杯,一饮而尽) from the week before Christmas till the last firework explodes in the sky announcing the new year. The last Friday before Christmas well- known as’Mad Friday’—is one of the busi est periods for the country’s pubs and clubs.

The study by the University of Sussex followed up nearly 900 participants in Alcohol Concern’s Dry January campaign and found out that 72%of them had kept harmful drinking sessions down and 4%were still not drinking.

The Dos and Don’ts of Learning a New Language
Reasons for learning another language differ from person to person. Some learn another language because they would like to live in another country.36 Some people have to study a language at school and others might decide to learn a language just for fun!
I've been learning French for just over two years, I decided to learn it because I wanted to learn something new and I love French culture. Learning French has been a fun and exciting journey but it’s also been challenging. I've learnt a lot about the challenges while learning a new language and have put together some ‘dos’(该做的事)and ‘don'ts’(不该做的事)to help other language learners.
· 37
Learning a new language can be a hard process that requires a lot of motivation. Try different activities to make your language learning more enjoyable. Why not try watching your favorite TV series in that language or listening to music in that language?
·Do write down your mistakes
38 I like to write the mistakes that I make in a small pocket book.
·Don’t set unrealistic expectations.
If you have recently started learning another language, it may be unrealistic to expect to be fluent within a couple of months. Be aware that it could take a while. 39 It’s very difficult to have a native accent. The most important thing is that you’re clear and people can understand you.
·Don’t be scared
40 I worried about my accent, pronunciation, grammar and didn't make the most of speaking opportunities. Looking back, it seems silly and now I’m more than happy to speak French. Don’t be afraid or overthink it, just be confident and speak.
A. Do enjoy it
B. Be confident
C. Others decide to learn a language because of their job.
D. The same thing goes for accents.
E. I wasn't confident when I first started speaking French.
F. Take your time and celebrate the progress that you've made so far.
