as可以作连词、介词及关系代词。
一、 as作连词的用法:
1. 作“当……的时候”,引导时间状语从句。 (注意与when、 while的用法区别)
A) 用于表示同一个人的两种动作交替进行,指"一边……,一 边……"。如: The girl dances as she sings on the stage. He looked behind from time to time// as he went forward. B)表示两个同步发展的动作或行为,译为"随着……"。如: As time went on / by, she became more and more worried. As children get older, they become more and more interested in the things around them. C)表示两个短促行为或事件几乎同时发生。如: I thought of it just as you opened your mouth. Just as the flying worm hit her face, she gave a loud cry.
3. as作“像”、“按照…的方式”解,引导方式 状语从。 =in the way that
He speaks English as Americans do. When in Rome, do as Romans do. Zhoukai went and did as he was told
4. 作“虽然”、“尽管”讲,引导让步状语从句。 常用倒装语序,即: adj. /adv. / n.+ as +主语+谓语+其他。
三、 as作介词的用法:
as引导的介词短语大多用作状语, as译为"作为";少数情况可引起宾语补足语。 如: As a League member, I'll take the lead in ever ything. (状语) As a young man, he was active in sports. She works as a doctor. (状语) They have me as one of their own children. (引起宾语补足语)
常用的as引导的非限制性定语从句固定表达有: as everyone knows/ as we all know/ as is known to all/ as is well-known (众所周知)/ as I can remember(正如我所记得的) / as we expect / as was expected (正如预料的那样)/ as often happens / as we all can see / as can be seen / as has been said before (如前所述)…
②as引导定语从句,先行词可是人也可是物,先行词 常被the same, such等词修饰时,常用as来引导。如: I was reading the same book as he bought yesterday Such teachers as know Tom think him bright.
2. as作“既然”、“由于”讲,引导原因状语从 句,常用来表示已为人们所知或显而易见的 原因或理由。=since
As you're not feeling well, you may stay at home. As he wasn't ready in time, we went without him. As it is cold outside, we’ll put on our overcoat.
He is very careful, as his work shows. As is well-known, Taiwan belongs to China.

They helped the old man as often as possible. I don't speak English so/ as well as he does. I’m not as tall as he is
二、as作关系代词,
①引导的非限制性定语从句可修饰整个主句, 可以放 在主句前,主句后或插入主句中间。作“正如”讲。
比较:1. That is the same watch as I lost. That is the same watch that I lost. 2. He is such a good student as is liked by everyone. He is such a good student that he is liked by everyone.
Tired as they were, they walked on. Child as he is, he knows a lot. (child前不用冠词)
5.引导比较状语从句,用于as...as...或 not so/as...as...句型中,前一个as是副词,后 一个as是连词(连词后面可跟动词、形容词、 及句子),
