Text 10
Third World countries often mistakenly decide to permit rapid industrialization. When this industrialization occurs, many new factories open, and workers get jobs。
Unfortunately, many of these new jobs are not permanent。
The leaders of an industry want their factories to be as productive as possible, and they will do anything to achieve that goal. Whenever they can, they take advantage of automation, which means that workers are replaced by a more efficient machine。
As a result, a worker trained for a specific factory job becomes unemployed, and the profits of the factory owners are maximized。
Many experts in Third World economics are concerned about rapid industrialization because it brings problems as well as progress。
The leaders
of Third World countries should be aware of the dangers as well as the advantages of rapid industrialization。

The last school bell rings and your kids are off for the summer. For most kids those thoughts of schoolwork and lessons are a distant memory that they won’t be thinking about again until fall. So it's important for them to continue some learning.
Have Your Kids Hit the Library
Encourage your kids to read by taking them to the library during the summer。
If they don't have a library card, get them one. Many local libraries sponsor (主办)summer reading clubs that keep your kids wanting to read. Be sure to let your kids pick their own books out; summer is for fun reading.
Have Your Kids Read Every Day
Ask your kids to read outside in the sun. Join in with them, read aloud their favourite books, no matter how many times you have read them。
Pick a time every day when you all stop and read as a family together. Nothing will stimulate a child to read than to have adults reading with them。
Find Other Ways to Encourage the Kids
If you are planning a family trip, have them check out the map。
Let your kids go online and research where you are going。
Have your kids check the weather report in the newspaper or what big event is happening and then have them report back on it at dinner time. Have your kids check out magazines or websites for recipes (食谱) that can be prepared。

About twenty years ago I had the pleasure of teaching a disabled young woman. Not only was she good at maths and science, but she was also extremely talented in art。
She could draw and paint beautifully。
When Audrey graduated from university she got two degrees, one in fine arts and one in chemistry. Not too many people do well in two such different areas of study.
Just before her high school graduation, Audrey gave me a wonderful gift. It was a watercolor painting of a mother and her baby. A tear fell from the mother’s eye as she looked lovingly at her child. Beneath the painting Audrey had written these words:“The deep love from Mother, through me, touches another." What a beautiful gift! I had the piece of art framed (给……做框) and hung in my office.
Years passed with many moves from one office to another and I lost the painting。
Last year, after about eight years of not knowing where it was,I received a phone call from a former colleague who said she had something of mine. It was the picture Audrey had painted for me 18 years earlier. When cleaning out a storage room she had discovered my gift.
I was struck that the precious gift came back。
I knew Audrey very well. When she was four years old, Audrey had a serious disease. What’s worse, her father left the house。
It was her mother who brought her up with much trouble. She survived (从……中活下来,幸免于) the disease but was disabled.

After a particularly (尤其) busy period at work, I decided to get away from it all by going on a hike in the mountains in southern France.

Playing the violin was once one of my dream. Because of lack of practice and playing skills, I did it very bad in the beginning and was often laughing at by other students。
Gradually, I lost confidence to myself and wanted to give up。
But my teacher told me,“Nothing was easy, and struggle is a vital part of our
life。
