Lesson 60 Get a Good Education
1. Analysis of the Students
The students of Grade 9 have mastered certain vocabularies,expressions and structures. They also have the abilities of self-teaching and working in groups. Most of them are willing to express their opinions in English.
2. Analysis of Teaching Content
Lesson 60 is the sixth lesson in Unit 10, Book 5.This unit focus on the subject Get Ready for the Future, Students cares about the subject because it is close to everyone. Lesson 60 also the last lesson in the junior school, it mainly talks about Danny’s experience of he met an astronaut by on his diary. It also stressed the importance of a good education.

1. To master the words: mall, agency, definitely, faint.
2. To master the phrases: hold out, Canadian Space Agency, keep one’s eyes on. 『能力目标』
Improve the students’ ability of speaking, listening, reading and writing. 『情感目标』
To know to strive for the realization of the ideal.

To master the words and phrases.

Learn how to express what to do to achieve their dream.

Step 1. Warm-up
1.Show some famous people and introduce them.
2.Free talk: (1) Have you ever met any famous people? Who?
(2) What do you think of being an astronaut?
Step 2. Presentation
1.Explain the new words.
2.Free talk: What do you think of being an astronaut? (to elicit the lesson. T: How about Danny?)
3.Read the text and answer the following questions:
(1)How long did they talk?
(2)Why can’t Danny be an astronaut?
(3)Did Jack Hall give Danny good advice?
4.Check the answers.
5.Explain the language points:
Guess what? 猜猜怎么回事?
本句中的what可以看作是what it was的省略。
另外,单独使用what可表示未听清或感到惊讶而要求对方重复一遍,或者表示怀疑、气愤等。
e.g. – I received a letter.
– What?
—我收到一封信。
—什么?
what还可以放在句末表示疑问的添加部分, 意思是“不是吗,是不是;还是别的什么”。
e.g. A nice boy, what?
真是个好男孩啊,是不?
What are you, a teacher, a nurse, or what?
你是做什么工作的?教师、护士?还是别的什么职业?
at (the) first的意思是“起先,开始时”。
e.g. At first I didn’t know how to say.
开始我不知道该怎么说。
hold out 在本句中的意思是“伸出”。
e.g. He held out his arms to give his students a hug.
他伸出双臂拥抱了他的学生们。
hold out还有“提供;坚持,不退让”的意思。
e.g. His invention holds out hope for the people.
他的发明给人民带来希望。
someday(也可以写作 some day)和 one day都可以表示将来的“某天”,若表示过去的“某天”,只能用one day。
e.g. I believe I will succeed some day / one day.
我相信总有一天我会成功的。
Step 3. Practice
