My Understanding of Success
The views about success vary from person to person. Some people hold that success means having the ability to make a great deal of money; and for some, success is equal to the fame and social position, the higher the status is, the more successful you are; some people believe that whoever did an excellent work is successful. These differences lie on people’s various hopes and ideas. Why do the people want to be successful? According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, there is the esteem needs which stand for recognition, respect and reputation. People take efforts to gain respect and attention from others and from ourselves. That is to say, pursuing success is the human beings’nature. For my part, success is something that nobody is unwilling to pursue in order to gain a sense of confidence and satisfaction.
In the world, most of us know the Forbes which is an American national business magazine, an annual ranking of the world's wealthiest people. The total net worth of each individual on the list is estimated, in United States dollars, based on their assets and accounting for debt. They are definitely successful. However, I argue that the successful people are not destined to be famous. Because there are so many ordinary beings also does a glorious job, without noticed to the public, for example, a mother, a teacher, a doctor or even a child.
The praise for the mother is never absent in the history. It also exists at present and in the future. A mother gives birth to their children. Then her life of caring for the kids begins, at the same time, worrying about them. Mother’s love is selfless, for us, she sacrificed all of her time. About teachers, someone says: “a teacher has two jobs, fill young minds with knowledge, yes, but more important, give those minds a compass so that the knowledge does not go to waste.” All of my teachers carry out these two jobs with full hearted. And for the doctor, they are regarded as the white angels around the universe with no doubt, for healing the wounded and rescuing the dying. All of them I think are successful; for one thing, they have
goals to reach, and devoting themselves to it. For another thing, no matter what difficulties they encounter, they never give up. Finally, they get the respect and reputation they deserve.
Then, there was a real story happened recently. A twelve-year-old girl, whose name is Heyue, was one of the ten recipients of CCTV’s “moving china”. She died of brain death in 17th Nov 2013. Having diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her cerebellum, she decided to donate her organs to the people needed in her last three months. Therefore her sorrowful father donor her kidney and liver in her will. The little girl was so young that she was not prepared well to face the death, but it happened. No one can say she is unsuccessful, for her life is short but forever. This prove my view that successful person is not always going to be famous; they may exist in the daily life, around us.
Success brings confidence and reputation to us, which is the reason why everyone is eager to get it. Since success is vital in our whole life. What should we do to achieve it? At the beginning, we should know a lot of factors that contribute to the success. In my opinion, there are four factors, including goal, preparation, opportunity, action.
First of all, setting a goal is essential. As far as I am concerned, knowing what success is in your mind should be the first step to achieve it. Goal-setting can help us do and experience many meaningful things we hope for in life, instead that staying and accepting what the life gives us. What’s more, a goal shows what we want and make us realize where the raft of life drafts away. Without a clear direction, we do not know where to go. There is no denying that all successful people have plans of what their life should be and they set lots of goals, both short-term and long-term.
However, only goal is not enough。
