Once upon a time, the animals decided that they must do something heroic to meet the problems of “a new world”. So they organized a training school.
They organized an activity curriculum (课程) consisting of running, climbing, swimming and flying. To make it easier to manage the curriculum, all the animals took all the subjects. The duck was excellent in swimming, in fact, better than his instructor, but he made only passing grades in flying and was very poor in running. Since he was slow in running, he had to stay after school and also drop swimming in order to practice running. This was kept up until his webbed (脚蹼) feet were badly worn and he was only average in swimming. But average was acceptable in school, so nobody worried about that except the duck.
The rabbit started at the top of the class in running, but had a nervous breakdown because of so much make-up work in swimming.
The squirrel was excellent in climbing until he developed frustration in the flying class where his teacher made him start from the ground up instead of from the treetop down. He also develop ed a “charley horse”(肌肉痉挛)and then got a C in climbing and a D in running. The eagle was a problem child and was disciplined severely. In the climbing class he beat all the others to the top of the tree, but insisted on using his own way to get there. At the end of the year, an abnormal eel (鳗) that could swim very well, and also run, climb and fly a little, had the highest average and was the one who gave a good-bye speech. The prairie dogs stayed out of the school because the administration would not add digging to the curriculum.
21.Why was the duck only average in swimming? Because ________.
A. he over-trained himself in running.
B. he dropped swimming classes.
C. he was better than his instructor.
D. he had to practice climbing.
22.We can learn from the passage that ________.
A. the squirrel met frustration during practicing climbing.
B. in fact, the duck did better than any other animal in class.
C. the rabbit liked to make up in water so she failed at last.
D. the abnormal eel’s average score is the highest in all subjects.
23.What activity curriculums were not offered in this training school?
A. Running
B. Swimming
C. Digging
D. Flying

When I was going home to India last year, I called up my mother to ask if she wanted anything from China.
When India had not opened up its markets to the world, I carried suitcase loads of dark glasses and jeans. Thankfully, we can get all these anywhere in India now.
Still, her answer surprised me: “Green tea.”
As far as I can remember, she didn’t even drink Indian tea.
I dutifully bought a big packet of Longjing and headed home to hear the story. My mother and her brother, both regular newspaper readers, believed that Chinese green tea was the wonder medicine for all illnesses.
At the turn of the century, China was not really familiar to the average India. It was a strange country.
How things change! And how soon!
Now every town of any size seems to have a “China Market”. And everyone is talking about China.
The government of India has planned to send a team to China to see how things are done.
A minister once said that India must open the doors for more foreign investment and such a step would “work wonders as it did for China”.
But it’s a two-way street. I just heard about a thousand Shenzhen office workers who have gone to Bangalore(班加罗尔) to train in software. Meanwhile, all the Indian IT majors are starting to set up more business in China.
No wonder that trade, which was only in the millions just ten years ago, is expected to hit about US $ 15 billion for last year and US $20 billion by 2008, a goal set by both governments.
No wonder, my colleague wrote some weeks ago about this being the Sino-Indian(中印)century as the two countries started on January 1 the Sino-Indian Friendship Year.
But what is still a wonder to me is my mother drinking Chinese tea.
24. Why did the mother ask for Chinese green tea?
A. She was tired of Indian tea.
B. She believed it was good for health.
C. She was fond of Chinese products.
D. She had a son working in China.
25. What does the author mean by “it’s a two-way street” in Paragraph 10?
A. The exchanges between India and China benefit both.
B. China and India have different traffic rules.
C. Chinese products are popular in both China and India.
D. Tea trade works wonders in both India and China.
26. What do we know about the Indian IT industry?
A. It will move its head office to Shenzhen.
B. It has attracted an investment of US $15 billion.
C. It is trying to make further development in China.
D. It caught up with the US IT industry in 2008.
27. In the text the author expresses ______.
A. his surprise at China’s recent development
B. his support for drinking Chinese green tea
C. his worry about his mother’s health
D. his wonder at the growth of India’s IT industry
C
NOT all memories are sweet . Some people spend all their lives trying to forget bad experiences . Violence and traffic accidents can leave people with terrible physical and emotional scars . Often they relive(再体验)these experiences in nightmares .
Now American researchers think they are close to developing a pill , which will help people forget bad memories . The pill is designed to be taken immediately after a frightening experience . They hope it might reduce , or possibly erase(抹去), the effect of painful memories .
In November , experts tested a drug on people in the US and France . The drug stops the body releasing(释放)chemicals that fix memories in the brain . So far the research has suggested that only the emotional effects of memories may be reduced , not that the memories are erased .
The research has caused a great deal of argument . Some think it is a bad idea , while others support it .
Supporters say it could lead to pills that prevent or treat soldiers’ troubling memories after war . They say that there are many people who suffer from terrible memories .
“ Some memories can ruin people’s lives . They come back to you when you don’t want to have them in a daydream or nightmare. They usually come with very painful emotions , ” said Roger Pitman , a professor at Harvard Medical School . “ This could reduce lot of that suffering . ”
But those who are against the research say that changing memories is very dangerous because memories give us our identity(特质). They also help us all avoid the mistakes of the past .
“ All of us can think of bad events in our lives that were horrible at the time but make us who we are . I’m not sure we want to wipe those memories out , ” said Rebecca Dresser , a medical expert .
28. The passage is mainly about __________ .
A. a new medical invention
B. an argument about the research on the pill
C. an introduction to the function of a new pill
D. a way of erasing painful memories
29. The drug tested on people can __________ .
A. erase the emotional effects of memories
B. stop people remembering bad experiences
C. cause the brain to fix memories
D. prevent body producing certain chemicals
30. We can infer from the passage that __________ .
A. the pill has probably been produced in America
B. taking the pill will do harm to people’s health
C. not all of the people support the research
D. the pill will put an end to people’s bad experiences
31. Which of the following does Rebecca Dresser probably agree with ?
A. Some memories can ruin people’s lives .
B. Experiencing bad events makes us different from others .
C. People want to get rid of bad memories .
D. The pill will reduce people’s sufferings from bad memories
D
Fitzgerald, a very wealthy English man, had only one child, a son, who naturally was the apple of his eye. His wife died when the child was in his early teens. So Fitzgerald devoted himself to fathering the kid. Unluckily the son died in his late teens.
Meanwhile, Fitzgerald's wealth was increasing all the time. He spent a lot on art works of the masters. Later Fitzgerald himself became seriously ill. Before his death, he had carefully prepared his will as to how his wealth would be settled——to sell his entire collection at an auction(拍卖).
Because of the large quantity and high quality of his collection, a huge crowd of possible buyers gathered for the auction. Many of them were museum directors and private collectors eager to bid(出价). Before the auction, the art works were shown, among which was a painting of Fitzgerald's son by an unknown artist. Because of its poor quality, it received little attention.
When it was time for the auction, the auctioneer gaveled(敲槌)the crowd to attention. First the lawyer read from Fitzgerald's will that the first art work to be auctioned was the painting of his son.
The poor-quality painting didn't receive any bidders except one——the old servant who had attended to the son and loved him, and who for emotional reasons offered the only bid.
As soon as the servant bought the painting for less than one English pound, the auctioneer stopped the bidding and asked the lawyer to read again from the will. The crowd became quiet, and the lawyer read from the will: “Whoever buys the painting of my son gets all my collection.”Then the auction was over.

Do you like to study in the living room, that is not a good place? The living room is too much noisy, and you need the quiet place. A quiet place can help you only thinking about one thing. Remembered when you study, don’t think about other things at the same time. Only think about your lessons. When you do your homeworks, only think about it. 第二节书面表达(满分25分)
One possible version:
With the development of technology, people have designed solar cars in order to decrease the pressure of environment pollution.
Solar cars are cars that use the sun’s energy. An advantage of using the solar energy is that it can save energy and reduce the use of petrol, which means they are cleaner and more environmentally friendly. So far there are many solar races held in Australia to call on people to use them and raise environmental awareness. However, some people think the cars are too slow and not easily accepted.
In my opinion, the solar car has a long way to go. With the scientists all over the world making contributions to it, the car’s future will be brighter and brighter. 敬请批评指正
