Television Commercials
Nowadays, when we turn on the television, so many various commercials burst into our view that we can hardly enjoy our programs. These commercial are essentially different from what we call public service advertisements because the former ones are for seeking profits while the latter ones may have something to do with philanthropy.
Television commercials are misleading. They encourage people to buy products that either are not needed ore are not good for them. Health care products are a typical example. These kind of commercials always suggest to customers that their products are the best choice for keeping healthy and by taking them every day, people will have no chance of being ill. It is too absurd! Every sensible man knows that medicines more or less contain some toxic substance. If we want to keep fit, we should exercise every day and eat healthy diets.
Television commercials are tasteless and personally irritating. Some contents they potentially propagate are vulgar and disgusting and can have bad effects on people, especially on children. One commercial concerning diet pills advocates that being fat is a shame and a girl like that can by no means be beautiful. It should really irritate people who are not “physically beautiful” and young girls are tend to be misled by this kind of commercials.
Since most of television commercials can be so annoying and useless, people should try to do something to improve the quality of the commercials they must see on television. A boycott can be of no use because its influence can be so insignificant and it is impossible for us not to watch TV. It is more rational and practicable that we should give some feedbacks to the government to express our real feelings to these television commercials. We can write letters or more efficiently, we can put forward some suggestions through the website of the government.。
