英国首相卡梅伦在联合国气候峰会英语演讲稿Distinguished delegates,
It is my honor and privilege to address this august gathering of representatives from across the globe, gathered here today for the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
As we gather here today, we are faced with a grave challenge: the looming threat of climate change, that threatens the very basis of our shared existence. Climate change, as a global emergency, threatens to undermine our efforts towards achieving sustainable development, universal wellbeing, and prosperity for all.
We face an existential crisis where the consequences of our inaction could erode the very foundation of our civilization. The scientific evidence supporting this fact is irrefutable. The recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which clearly outlines the consequences of global warming, has sent a clear and ominous signal for all of us.
We need to act urgently to address climate change. We need to take coordinated and swift action, by undertaking mitigation and adaptation measures, protecting our natural ecosystems, and at the same time, supporting vulnerable communities who are most affected by climate change. This challenge requires us to work in partnership, ensuring that the benefits of our actions are distributed equitably and justly.
The United Kingdom is committed to achieving net-zero
greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and has recently set more ambitious targets than those previously announced, aiming to reduce our emissions by 68% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. We recognize that this would require significant investments in low-carbon infrastructure, technologies, and practices, but we are committed to leading this transition, within a green and sustainable future.
We also acknowledge the need to ensure a just transition, recognizing that the impacts of climate change and our response must not fall disproportionately on low-income and vulnerable groups.
But the United Kingdom alone cannot solve this global challenge. It is imperative that all countries come together, co-operate and collaborate to address the urgent need to limit global warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We must work together to create the necessary conditions for delivering a just and sustainable transition to a low-carbon economy.
The Glasgow Climate Summit next year offers a crucial opportunity to demonstrate global leadership and determination to overcome the climate challenge. We must use all our skills, resources, and innovation to create a sustainable future for generations to come.
In conclusion, I would like to reiterate the urgent need for action to address climate change, one of the greatest challenges of our time. We can only overcome this challenge by working together, in cooperation and in good faith, to establish a sustainable future for
all, in which world prosperity and individual well-being are inextricably linked to a healthy planet.
Thank you.。
