Sentiment after Reading《Cat in the Rain》
I read the noval again and again, of which the hero and hreoine weren't even named,of which I don't even know where and when the story happend . Three main people who were relevant to the cat in the rain were briefly sketched by the author,the American wife,the husband,and the owner of the hotel where this couple lived. However,I really found something that is profound and significant—the unconscious struggle in the wife’s heart, which is between the pursuit of freedom and independence, and being conditioned with the traditional woman situation.
The hreoine,the American wife,was really an obedient one that she uncnditionally comply with her husband from her haircut to everthing she use in her daily life.,who decide wether she should own .It seems that in the marriage the wife is deciplined to play the role of obey and weak.there wasn’t enough right.However,the seed of discontentment was broadcast in her heart,which was great.What’s more,there’s turely some fer tilizer to help it grow.She has the thirst for right and dignity,and she wanted herself to be respected and valued.People incline to have compassion for thing to whom they are alike and people may easy fall in love with the one who give the just thing she want.Then she found and paid attention to the cat and the owner of the hotel,who are two kinds of fertilizer.The cat in the rain was as lonely and weak as her, and she wanted to catch it and put it in her shield.What’more important,she really want to prov e that she could also dominate something and her ability to protect something,or herself.However,the cat disappeared strangely and the little dream was broken.Then she complained lots of things and told about articles she wanted to have to her husband , she became eager for freedom,happiness,and dignity.However, the great reality is still unchanged and she’s still the weak one. The action of her husband was no action.Then the seed growed quickly without being dispersed.For there’s another man who is very op posite to her husband,and the owner of the hotel was so different that the woman was into him.He seemed like a wisp of sunshine who gave the woman warmth and hope in her dark life.The wife liked him. She liked the deadly serious way he received any complaints. She liked his dignity. She liked the way he wanted to serve her. She liked the way he felt about being a hotel- keeper. She liked his old, heavy face and big hands.
Someone commented on the author that” Intentionally his point in the hidden language tip underneath, let the reader all efforts to wonder, to guessing ".Well,that’s just what I feel.At the end of the story, in the doorway the maid held a big tortoise-shell cat pressed tight against her and swung down against her body,and told that the padrone asked her to bring this for the signora.Obeversely,it was not the cat in the rain. Then the story wind up so suddenly that the noval seemed unfinished though in fact it was.Well,if the story happened in real life,what the final result would be ? The woman may still struggle,without being free and independent.They are still the weak ones and there was a long way to go to change this.The end that seemed unfinished just amply represented the expectation of the author mingled with his great indignation and helpless—the woman may get her own freedom,dignity and independence but there was really long way to go .
