Dear Laura,
Sorry to disturb you while you are enjoying your vacation, I am Li Hua, monitor of Class 4, and I am writing to ask for your timely help about the approaching English Drama Contest.
The English Drama Contest offers a great chance for us to practice spoken English and unite the whole class. With the attached video of our rehearsal, I sincerely hope you could offer your guidance on our performance. I would also appreciate it if you could share your valued opinion on our costumes, acting skills and onstage light and sound effects.
Any suggestions are highly appreciated and we will make proper adjustments accordingly. I hope you have a pleasant vacation despite my disturbing you.
Yours,
Li Hua 第二节(满分25分)
There was always one for him, and one for each of us kids. We waited politely, yet impatiently as Grandpa gave them out to each of us. After each of us seriously placed the snowball into the ground, Grandpa covered our magic snowbank with the dirt that we’d shoveled out of the hole. We were all holding hands and singing Christmas carols as Grandpa buried our magic snowballs. Then, Grandpa wiped his hands on his pants and smiled, “Well, we’ve planted our magic snowballs on the day of the first frost, kids. It’s up to the magic snowbank now.”
When the first snow came, all six of us would run out into the yard. We caught snowflakes on our tongues and in our mittens, tasting shivery delight of falling ice stars. Laughter echoing in the yard, we danced, hugged, giggled, grinned and sang, all six of us together. We had helped the snow to fall once again and it was all Grandpa’s magic, and we were a part of it. Though I’m all grown up now, the first snow every year reminds us of Grandpa, the first frost, our snowbank deep within the earth and our magic snowball time.

M: I'm really annoyed with myself.
W: What happened?
M: I spent ages packing, so I shouldn't have forgotten anything. But I realized when I took my towel out that I'd never put my toothbrush in, only the toothpaste!
(Text 2)
W: Harry, what time do you get up?
M: I normally get up at 6 o’clock but sometimes I have to be up by five.
W: Do you practice yoga in the morning?
M: Yes. I usually practice it half an hour later after I get up.
(Text 3)
M: I told you what! I'm pretty sure that the lady who helped Dr. Nelson is a spy.
W: How could you possibly figure that out? You probably read this book or watched the film before.
M: No, I didn't. I'm just good at guessing the ending of films.
(Text 4)
W: It's a lovely day today. We'll be able to spend all evening doing the gardening.
M: Oh,Sophie. We can do it on the weekend. Maybe we can have something to eat in a cafe.
W: OK.
(Text 5)
M: Hello, Mrs.White. What do you think of your job?
w: Well, as you know, my job is to prevent hotel crime. It's hard but I love it. I've been doing my best to make hotel crime more difficult and risky.
(Text 6)
W: Did I see you at the new restaurant in Elm Street last night?
M: Were you there too?
W: Yes, I was there at the table near the corner with my friends.
M: Did you like the food?
W: Well, I ate a salad and it was good but Paul had the fish and he said it was salty.
M: I had a burger. It was really oily.
W: I think they make good Italian dishes though.
M: Yes, the pizza looked good. Ellie and Pete had that. They liked their food.

M: Yes.If only we had 3,000!
W: If I were rich, we'd spend every winter together on a beautiful island.
M: Really? I'd rather go skiing in the Alps. I don't feel like staying on an island. It is dull. Well anyway, we can't afford it. If you hadn't bought so many clothes,we'd have more money for holidays.
W: But I like clothes! Would you rather I wore a suit all the time, like you?
M: What's wrong with my suits?!
(Text 8)
M: I remember my first meet with a customer.
W:Were you excited?
M: I was feeling more nervous than confident, to be honest.
W: So what happened?
M: I made a list of topics to talk about. But the list was in my pocket and I couldn't remember any of the topics before we got to a cafe.
W: What happened next?
M: I got the customer an orange juice. When I carried it over to the table with one hand, I tripped over a magazine and I just threw the juice all over the customer.
W: Oh no!
M: What's worse, I forget to take my wallet. The customer paid for the juice in the end.

W: Good morning,Doctor Mill's clinic. 'This is Jenna.How may I help you?
M: Yes, good morning,Jenna. This is Alfred James, and I need to make an appointment with Dr. Mill. Is he available today?
W:I'm sorry, he is on a home visit this morning, but he will be back around one o'clock. Is that OK with you?
M: Oh, well, I don 't know if I can wait that long. I woke up this morning with aching eyes. They hurt very badly, and I can't open them in bright light. I am also getting a terrible headache.
W: Maybe your eyes are just tired. Were you on the computer or reading for a long time yesterday? Try putting a warm towel over your eyes for a while, and take some medicine for your headache. Dr. Mill can check your eyes at one o'clock this afternoon.
M:Thanks for the advice. I was up late last night reading a novel. It was so good that I couldn't put
it down.I guess I will just try to rest until I can see Dr. Mill.
W: OK, Mr. James. I will schedule your appointment with Dr. Mill at one o'clock this afternoon.Thank you for calling!
M: See you at one o'clock.
(Text 10)
M: Today we are visiting what is probably the most unusual animal shelter in Britain. It does not house, as one would expect, a variety of wild animals rescued from zoos or sea creatures from ocean parks. So don 't expect to see any lions, elephants or sharks here. What it does have is a lot of very lucky and happy cows, pigs, goats, sheep and chickens. Why lucky? Well, these poor creatures have basically been rescued from becoming your lunch by animal rights groups. They are able to live out the rest of their lives here in Woodhill Shelter.
The shelter was set up by Jill and Ben Smith. Neither of them eats any animal products, but lives instead on a plant-based diet. They say it is a kinder way to live and better for the planet. The idea to build a shelter first occurred to them in 2011, and it was two years later that they put the idea into practice.Three years afterwards, they published a book called Our Farm Family, which was about the stories of the animals on the farm.
All the farm workers are volunteers without pay, but get free lunch and coffee in return for their work. But having done it myself, I can tell you that it is truly a rewarding experience. If you want to visit the farm, you can phone 6978325 for more information. And if you want to become a volunteer, you must visit the website and fill in the online form.Posts are not accepted because letters are easy to lose.。
