2020年广州从化市从化中学高三英语一模试题及参考答案
第一部分阅读(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项
A
As a nation, we are getting bigger and eating more. But there are effective ways to control your appetite and eat only as much as you need.
Keep away from low-nutrition snacks
That means ice cream, sweets, chips biscuits, cakes and any other salty orsugary snacks you eat between meals. Although we have a tendency to eat them, you can learn to live without these unhealthy-and-fattening-additions to your diet. Try to make it a habit to eat them only when offered at social events or as a special treat.
Leave half an hour between main course and dessert
Having a break between courses gives your brain time to receive the fullness signal and make you more likely to refuse the sweet stuff. And, in fact, as soon as you feel the first signals of fullness, remove your plate from the table. That will tell your brain that food time is over.
Make yours a small helping
Put an end to super-sized portions. You won’t be missing out—today’s small was the medium or large of a few decade ago. Select or serve yourself a modest portion and eat it slowly enjoying the flavors. Before you know it, small will feel just right. What’s more, ordering the smaller size leads to wearing the smaller size.
Distract yourself
When you find yourself hunting down food, even though you’re even hungry, do something else for 20 minutes. Drink a large glass of water as thirst is often confused with a desire for food. Choose something that engages your brain as well as your hands, such as writing a letter or listening to a song. You could also go for a short walk or do something that you enjoy. If you think you really are hungry, set an alarm for 20 minutes’ time and if you still want to eat when it rings, fine. If not, the urge will have passed.
1. Which way suits you better if you tend to order a large portion of food?
A. Distract yourself.
B. Make yours a small helping.
C. Keep away from low-nutrition snacks.
D. Leave half an hour between main course and dessert.
2. Why should you have a break between main course and dessert?
A. To give people time to chat.
B. To have a good appetite for sweet stuff.
C. To reduce appetite for dessert.
D. To give the host time to remove your plate.
3. When you find yourself pursuing for food, what should you do?
A. Eat some biscuits.
B. Eat some sugary snacks.
C. Have some soft drinks.
D. Listen to a lovely melody.

“We are running out of space and the only places to go to are other worlds... Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth.” These are the words of the famous scientist Stephen Hawking, spoken at a science festival inNorwayin 2017, a year before his death.
Hawking was not alone in this view. Many experts feel that the only way for humanity to last far into the future is to colonize other planets. That way, if an asteroid, a terrible disease, nuclear war, or some other disaster strikes Earth, civilization as we know it would still have a chance. Mars is one of the most tempting destinations. NASA, theUnited Arab Emirates, the private company SpaceX, and the organization Mars One all have plans to send humans there. “Either we spread Earth to other planets, or we risk going extinct, SpaceX founder Elon Musk said at a conference in 2013.
But not everyone agrees that colonizing Mars or any other planet is such a great plan. The most common argument against going is that it’s just too expensive or dangerous. It will take huge amounts of money and other resources just to get people there, let alone set up a place for them to live. It’s not even clear if humans could survive on Mars. One of the biggest dangers there is deadly radiation that bombards the planet.
Maybe all the time and money people would pour into a Mars mission would be better spent on more urgent projects here on Earth, like dealing with poverty or climate change. Some experts argue that handling a problem like an asteroid strike or disease outbreak while staying here on Earth would be much easier and less expensive than surviving on a new planet.
In addition, moving to a new planet could harm or destroy anything that already lives there. Mars seems uninhabited, but it could possibly host microbial life. Human visitors may destroy this life or permanently change or damage the Martian environment. Some feel that’s too much of a risk to take.
What do you think? Should humans colonize outer space or stay home?
4. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Many experts insist that humans should take the risk.
B. Mars is the most attractive destinations for human beings.
C. Hawking firmly believes the only way to save humans is moving to Mars.
D. All the other experts don’t agree with Hawking’s idea.
5. Why do some experts disagree with the plan to colonize Mars?
A. It will cost much more money to settle on Mars than on Earth.
B. It is too long a distance from the Earth to the Mars.
C. Human visitors will bring diseases to Martian environment.
D. The deadly radiation that bombards the planet is the biggest danger.
6. What’s the writing purpose of the passage?
A. To raise people’s awareness of protecting the environment.
B. To present different opinions on whether to move to the Mars.
C. To arouse readers’ reflection on whether to colonize outer space.
D. To inspire people to deal with the environmental problems.
7. In which section of a magazine is the passage most likely from?
A. Fiction.
B. Current affairs.
C. Social Studies.

Hundreds of millions of people watched on television on July 20, 1969, when American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to land on the moon. Back then, businesses sold many products connected to the event and many such products are now on sales again — in celebration of the moon landing’s 50th anniversary.
A limited number of Omega’s gold Speedmaster watches — the same kind that Buzz Aldrin wore on the moon — will be sold at $34,600. Omega Speedmaster watches have been an important part of space travel since NASA chose them for its moon landing in 1965. Other watches had failed required tests. Omega gave its gold Speedmasters to the astronauts at a dinner in 1969 before the landing. Another less costly type of silver Speedmasters will be sold at $ 9,650. It carries a picture of Aldrin stepping down from the moon lander.
Something for children-as well as adults — is the NASA Apollo 11 moon lander set. Made by Lego, it is a group of small pieces to put together to make a model of the moon lander.
Other things for sale include the anti-gravity Fisher Space Pens, developed just for the Apollo 11 mission. They work even when writing upside down. Now Fisher Space Pen Company has a limited-edition pen for sale at anout-of this-worldprice: $700, with real material from the Apollo 11 spacecraft.
Back in 1969, companies were quick to show their Apollo 11 connections with media and advertisements. The food company Stouffer’s made sure consumers knew it provided food for Apollo 11 astronauts once they returned to Earth. It started the ad campaign “Everybody who’s been to the moon is eating Stouffer’s”. Fifty years later, the company is celebrating with a media campaign to share some recipes from 1969.
Marketing experts David Meerman Scott says, “Since 1972,we’ve gone around and around the earth many times, and it is not interesting to people any more. I’m not sure whether they can accept such crazy prices. Now NASA has had plans to go to Mars in the 2030s and marketing efforts for a NASA Mars mission should be in development.”

A. It will be sold at $34,600.

D. The event of going to Mars will be another good chance to advertise.
11. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To show how to design the best advertisement.
B. To forecast the sales of the products in the text.
C. To introduce some of the products connected to Apollo 11.
D. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

I have a memory of being about five years old, picking up a beautiful grilled(烧烤的)cheese sandwich made for me by my hard —working mother and turning it over to see that theother side was burned. Suddenly what I
thought was the perfect sandwich was not so perfect. Mom had tried to hide that fact from me. There was no question; I ate it anyway without complaining. However, that moment has stuck in my mind for many years. Now, at the age of 43 as a mother of two children and as a biology professor where I am routinely the "academic mother" of hundreds of students every year,I find that I believe inThe Grilled Cheese Principle. Here is what I mean Making a grilled cheese sandwich is easy right? But when I think of how many burned grilled cheese sandwiches I have eaten, or I have made myself, I realize that most of the grilled cheese sandwiches I have known have had at least one burned side. The thing is that although it is a ly easy thing to make, I can also easily lose focus, and before long the sandwich is burned. For my mother, the first side was usually perfect and the second side got burned due to her being distracted. For me,I have tended to burn the first side, but then I more carefully monitor the second side.Either way,the grilled cheese sandwich suffers because it has not been given the attention it deserves
So, I have learned that even the simplest task deserves my full attention. When I am multi-tasking, I am doing none of the tasks well. And when I allow myself to be distracted, I am not in the present moment — not paying attention to the small details of living or enjoying the process
So now, I believe the best way to make a perfect grilled cheese sandwich is to make only one at a time and give it my full attention.
12. How did the writer react to the sandwich with burned side?
A. She ate it with some complaints
B. She showed no interest.
C. She thought it was still perfect
D. She was deeply impressed with it
13. What doesThe Grilled Cheese Principlemean?
A. Even simple things deserve full attention
B. Losing focus makes the sandwich burned
C. Self-made sandwiches are always burned
D. we should make only one sandwich at a time
14. Which of the following can we infer from the passage?
A. Everything cannot be done well without full attention
B. Moms always like to lie to kids when they have done something wrong
C. We can lose focus more easily when we do easy things.
D. Multi-tasking can be an obstacle to the achievement of tasks.
15. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A. Nothing is perfect
B. Learn to appreciate the burned sandwiches
C. Devote yourself to one thing at a time.
D. Never do multi-tasks
