Li Hua
参考答案:
Dear editor,
I’ve learned that you are seeking for English reporters for the new column Foreign Cultures, so I’m writing to you to recommend myself as a qualified candidate.
My name is Li Hua and I’m a student of Grade 1, which means I can devote much of my time and energy to the paper so as to acquaint myself with this field more quickly. More importantly, I have a good command of English and writing. Rather than play computer games, I would spend my time in the library or the English corner, and that’s why I have acquired much knowledge of culture and fully improved my English. For this reason I firmly believe I have potential as an outstanding journalist. Las t but not least, I’m easy-going and attach much importance to cooperation, even under great pressure. Nowadays it’s team spirit that guarantees success, isn’t it? So I have great confidence in myself.
Foreign Cultures provides new access for us students to the outside world. I would appreciate it if I could get your offer, and I would spare no pains to introduce as many foreign cultures as possible to bridge the gap! Looking forward to your reply.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

Boys and girls,
I feel honored to say something about learning English here.
参考答案:
Boys and girls,
I feel honored to say something about learning English here. In learning English, I think we should preview the lessons that the teacher will teach before class, making marks where we have questions. And in class, we should listen to the teacher carefully. After class, it is better to finish our homework on time.
In our spare time, we must pay attention to our notes. We should write down what the teacher have taught us and keep the notes in good order.
When we have problems in learning English, we must turn to the teacher for help. It is very useful to learn good sentences by heart. It is also important to read aloud and read more English articles. May you study well.
That’s all. Thank you.
三、阅读理解
21. Beavers are a very unique species in the world of nature and wildlife﹣﹣they are architects.Their dams are fine examples of engineering.
A pair of beavers will build a dam, using branches, mud and stones, across a river. The water held back by the dam flows over the bank on either side of the river, flooding the nearby ground and forming a pond.At some point in the pond the beavers then build their home, which is called a lodge. This consists of a cone﹣shaped(锥状的)pipe of branches and sticks of two to six feet in length held together with mud and stones, the top of which projects above the waterline. It serves as a shelter from the bad weather,a safety from enemies and a base for food supplies to be drawn upon in winter. From an engineering point of view the lodge could hardly be improved. Not only does it contain a central room just above water level, which is accessible only through underwater tunnels, but it also has"walls",one or more escape tunnels and an air hole at the top, which controls the temperature inside and gives air﹣conditioning. It is altogether a clever piece of construction, with all modern conveniences. It is,in fact, better protected against the effects of flooding than many human houses.Trees are essential to beavers. They eat the bark on the upper branches. But they must first fell the trees, using their four front teeth. With these sharp tools,it takes only a few minutes to cut down a tree.
The engineering skill of beavers is to a large extent a result of their ability to use their front paws as hands.A female will carry her young held under her chin(下巴)with her front paws, walking on her hind legs.A similar method is used by all beavers when transporting stones or mud, although they also carry such materials on their broad flat trails. The fore﹣paws are also used for digging and for dragging heavier pieces of wood.
32.Which of the following pictures best shows the beaver's lodge?
A.B .
C.D.
33.Which of the following sentences is Not the reason why trees are important to beavers?
A.They live on the barks on the upper branches of trees.
B.They use branches to transport mud and stones.
C.They build their lodge with the branches.
D.They use trees'branches to build dams.
34.The underlined word"fell"in Paragraph 4 probably means.
A.cut down
B.move away
C.cut up
D.move about
35.This text is mainly about.
A.the beaver's lodge
B.the beaver's engineering skills
C.the beaver's dam
D.the beaver's intelligence.

河狸是自然和野生动物世界里独特的物种,因为它们是优秀的建筑师,它们建造的大坝和草屋就是它们拥有工程技能的很好例子.
32题答案:C 考查细节推理,首先根据第二段的"This(the lodge)consists of a cone﹣shaped(锥状的)pipe of branches and sticks"(草棚是由锥形的树枝和棍子组成的管道)可知D选项排除(D是方形的),又根据后面的"It serves as a shelter from the bad weather"(草棚充当糟糕天气的遮蔽)可知A 选项排除(A选项草棚有大的开口,无法防止恶劣的天气),又根据第三段的"Not only does it contain a central room just above water level"(它不仅包含一个刚好位于水平线以上的中央室)可知B选项排除(B选项活动空间在水平线以下).综上,只有C选项符合.
33题答案:B 考查细节推理,根据文章最后一段的"A similar method is used by all beavers when transporting stones or mud"(同样的方法(用前爪搬东西)被河狸用来运输石头和泥)可知B选项不是树对河狸而言重要的原因.
34题答案:A 考查细节推理,根据后面的"With these sharp tools,it takes only a few minutes to cut down a tree"(用这些尖锐的工具(牙齿),只需要几分钟就可以砍倒一棵树)可知本题答案为A选项.
35题答案:B 考查文章大意,本文主要以大坝和草屋来说明河狸具有很好的工程技术,故本题答案为B选项.
22. John Harrison has an enviable job in most people’s opinion. He’s the official taster for Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, one of the best-selling ice-cream brands in the U.S.A. On an average day, Harrison has to sample sixty ice creams at the Dreyer’s headquarters. When he isn’t doing that, he travels all over the country, buying Dreyer’s ice cream i n supermarkets so that he can carry out spot checks for appearance and flavor. But, no matter how wonderful this job may sound, it is actually quite tough. It’s difficult work, requiring discipline, selflessness, and thorough preparation.
Before tasting a sample, Harrison uses his eyes first. If the ice cream doesn’t look attractive, he skips it. Then, he uses a gold spoon instead of one made of wood, plastic, or other metals. This is because regular spoons leave an aftertaste that can dull the taste buds(味蕾). In addition, the temperature of the ice cream may also influence the taster’s taste buds.
When Harrison samples ice cream, he first takes only a small bite of the ice cream, swishes it around in his mouth to introduce it to each of his taste buds, lightly licks his lips, and then gently breathes in so as to bring the smell up through the back of his mouth to his nose. With each step, he carefully sizes up whether the ice cream conveys the ideal balance between dairy sweetness and the flavor of the added ingredients. And last of all, no matter what the ice cream tastes like, he spits(吐) it out, since a full stomach makes for a dull palate(迟钝的味觉).
For Harrison, keeping a sharp palate means no onions, garlic, or cayenne pepper. He also doesn’t have
any coffee or tea, since these block the taste buds. But to him, this is just a small price to pay for what he
calls “the world’s best job” .
Harrison’s family has been in the ice-cream business for four generations, and Harrison himself has spent almost his whole life in it as well. Yet, he has never lost his love of the cold, creamy sweetness. He orders ice cream in restaurants for dessert, even when he’s not at work. On these occasions, he swallows the ice cream, taking in about a liter a week. Though he has gai ned some weight over the years he’s been with Dreyer’s, he couldn’t care less. “Who would trust a skinny ice-cream taster?” he jokes.
34. What is forbidden in Harrison’s job?
A. Doing shopping.
B. Eating the ice cream.
C. Using gold spoons.
D. Skipping the ice scream.
35. What can we learn about Harrison?
A. He learned his work skills from his family.
B. His job affects his appetite for the ice cream.
C. He is willing to give up something for his job.
D. He has to gain some weight to meet the need of work.
36. What does Harrison think of his job?
A. Creative.
B. Ordinary.
C. High-paying.
D. Proud.
37. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To describe Harrison’s job and how he does it.
B. To analyze the reasons why Harrison chose his job.
C. To make suggestions on how to apply for popular careers.
D. To introduce the advantages of working for a best-selling brand.
