Height is just one of the thousands of features(特征) that your genes decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then maybe you will be tall, too. But if you have questions about how tall you are going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.
But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential. Getting plenty of sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the expected height.
It’s natural that you are wondering how fast you should grow. There is no perfect or right answer. Generally speaking, kids grow about 6 centimeters a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty.
Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. 2cm here and 3cm there make a little
difference to the height you are at now. How have you been growing up to this height? What other changes may your body be going through?
Don’t be amazed if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a very quick growth during the puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or
later--between 7and 13 for girls, 9 and 15 for boys.
You will usually begin to notice that you are growing faster about a year after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.
61. If you want to know how tall you should grow, _______.
A. you should have enough exercise
B. you can ask doctors for help
C. you should take some special medicine
D. you can record your growth during puberty
62. The underlined word “puberty” most probably means a person when is a(n) _______.

B. how your parents’ height influence you
C. how you look like your parents
D. how you grow to a certain height
64. After reading this passage, we can explain ________.
A. how good it is to be a doctor
B. how much sleep time we need
C. why genes can’t decide everything
D. what healthy diet is
65. Which is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A. The features showing the first changes of puberty between boys and girls are different.
B. Girls’ age for starting puberty is usually earlier than that for boys’.
C. Your height most probably depends on how tall your parents are.
D. You may be amazed sometimes when you grow too fast.

When I was about 12 years old, my older brother, James, bought a BB gun into the house. Our parents had lost us many times that we were not allowed to bring home guns or knives, even if they were just toys. Having any form of weaponry(武器) in our home was not allowed at all.
James brought me to his room. He opened his closet door and took out a shoebox that was buried under some clothes. The BB gun was inside. I was enamored(迷恋的) by it at once.
“Can I shoot it?” I asked, hopefully.
“No way,” James said, taking it from me and putting it back.
One day, when no one was home, I went into James’ closet and took it out. For some special reason--I have no idea what I was thinking--I went to the front window of the second floor in our row house. I opened the window, I pointed the gun outside and shot. I quickly shut the window and looked outside.
In a matter of seconds, old Mr. Schlosberg came out of his store, he looked back at his store window. He looked up the street. He looked down the street. Then he looked straight across to our house.
Thankfully, James made it home before Mother of Father.
As he stepped through the door, I could hear old Mr. Schlosberg call his name. “James, James,” he called. “Come here, son.” After several minutes, James ran back across the street and into the living room. I hid in the kitchen. “Alma.” He shouted. “Get out here! You broke Mr. Schlosberg’s window with my BB gun!”
“Oh, please, James!” I cried. “ Don’t let him tell mother! She will hit my bottom real good!”
James wiped my tears and went back across the street to Mr. Schlosberg’s. I don’t know what James said to that man, but there was never a mention of that thing again.
Years later, I found out James had used the money he got from his newspaper route to pay for Mr. Shlosberg’s
broken window. He only got one cent for every paper he sent. He managed to pay back the money just before he went off to fight in World War II. Since that day, I have never touched a gun:a BB gun, a water gun, a real gun, or any other type.
66. Why was the gun hidden in the closet?

A. To deal with the problem
B. To talk with his parents
C. To throw away the gun
D. To tell Mr. Schlosberg’s the truth
