Saturday, March 24th
We have arrived in the hot, wet city of Bangkok. This is our first trip to Thailand(泰国). All the different smells make us want to try the food. We are going to eat something special for dinner tonight. The hotel we are staying in is cheap, and very clean. We plan to stay here for a few days, visit some places in the city, and then travel to Chiang Mai in the North.
Tuesday, March 27th
Bangkok is wonderful and surprising! The places are interesting. We visited the famous market which was on water, and saw a lot of fruits and vegetables. Everything is so colorful, and we have taken hundreds of photos already! Later today we will leave for Chiang Mai. We will take the train north, stay in Chiang Mai for two days, and then catch a bus to Chiang Rai.
Friday, March 30th
Our trip to Chiang Rai was long and boring. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life--no computers or phones. They are the kindest people I have ever met. They always smile and say “hello”. Kathy and I can only speak a few words of Thai, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness. I feel good here and hope to be able to come back next year.

Once upon a time there were two friends who lived in a palace with their families, who worked in service of the King. One of these boys knew a girl he liked so much that he wanted to give her a present.
One day, he was walking with his friend in the main palace hall, and he saw a big vase filled with the loveliest flowers you could imagine. He decided to take one to give to the girl, thinking that no one would see him do so. He did the same thing the next day, and the next, and the next… until one day, the King noticed how few flowers were left in the vase. He was so angry that he called everyone in the palace to him.
When they were all before the King, the boy thought he should say it had been him who took the flowers. However, his friend told him to be quiet, because the King would be terribly angry with him. The boy was filled with fear, but when the King came near he decided to confess.
As soon as the boy said that he had done it, the King went red with anger, but on hearing what the boy had done with the flowers, a smile appeared on the King's face, and he said,

One cold day last November, my wife and I came home from work to a sick young daughter and we decided to stay at home for the night. Problem was, we had two tickets to see Miranda July, the performance artist, being interviewed at the Herbst Theatre. We decided to sell them online for $50. One hour before the event, a guy named Peter called me and said he wanted to buy the tickets. Since the time was limited, I told Peter to pay me the next day. Peter seemed touched and we said a fond goodbye.
However, a month later, Peter still didn’t pay me back. A few more weeks passed. Another month. There’d been one e-mail promising to mail the check, then silence.
Maybe he was having a hard time, I thought. But truth was, Peter seemed to be having a pretty normal time. According to the pictures and messages on his Facebook, he had been playing golf, dancing happily with his friends, and traveling on a boat. But he just refused to answer my calls, or reply to my e-mails or messages. So I tried reaching him with my wife’s phone one night.
And he didn’t pick up when I called, but texted right back, playfully wondering who might be calling him.
“You should go to his office,” my wife said, “he would have to give you the money if all his coworkers were watching.”
But I didn’t want to become a debt collector. My efforts to reach Peter over these months had been light and I wanted to keep it that way. My initial exchange with Peter had been just two regular people agreeing to handle things humanly. There was a rare niceness in that, and I still wanted to keep that balloon in the air, however disappointing it was starting to look. I wanted to believe we could still trust each other.
23. For what reason did the author and his wife decide to sell the ticket?
A. They thought it was too cold that night.
B. They needed to look after their daughter.
C. They wanted to save some money.
D. They were going to be interviewed.
24. On the night the author sold his tickets to Peter, he
A. knew he might not get the $50.
B. felt a little hesitant.
C. thought he could trust Peter.
D. was moved by Peter’s kindness.
25. Why didn’t Peter pay t he author back?
A. Because he didn’t remember it.
B. Because he was too busy to pay.
C. Because he didn’t want to pay.
D. Because he was having a tough time.
26. What can we infer about the author?
A. He would never trust strangers.
B. He might call the police for help.
C. He would go to Peter’s office to talk to him.
D. He still hoped Peter would pay him back.
D
It is the injury from breathing cigarettes that has led to the invention of e-cigarettes. Using these cigarettes requires small power from battery and these cigarettes are also available in various flavors and varied nicotine levels. Owing to the fact that the charge from a short cable is required, carrying the electronic cigarettes can't be that easy in some case. This means that the smoking habits of individuals are in fact controlled! Also, the human body is protected from harmful smoke that is not given off by the electrical version of these New Age cigarettes.
The cigarettes are in a fine pack and they are durable (持久的)! For the first time ever, tobacco smokers do not have to carry matches and lighters which may cause burns to their finger tips and boring holes into their clothes! The result is basic dignity for the smokers because they will not disrespect the non-smokers among them by polluting the air that they breathe. Electronic cigarettes and the packages they come in can also be reused, which means that a lot of money can be saved.
They are environmentally friendly. For starters, this kind of cigarettes cannot be put on unless with a source of an electrical current. This means that rooms and pathways do not, under any circumstances, get filled with smoke just because a smoker passed by! The smoke is done away, meaning the air, even around a smoker, is always fresh! Disposals (处理) for the cigarettes have also been invented so that there are no harmful smoking bits and pieces carelessly thrown away which pollute the environment!
E-cigarettes have made the world a better place at the very least. Those who are addicted to smoking on a regular or even irregular basis can therefore do so responsibly and give better consideration to their health.
27. What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A. The original smoking habits of smokers are hard to control.
B. E-cigarettes have different tastes and nicotine levels.
C. The electronic cigarettes are convenient to carry.
D. The short cable is used to determine how fully the batteries are charged.
28. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. Why do e-cigarettes produce no smoke.
B. E-cigarettes are environmentally friendly.
C. Why are disposals for the cigarettes invented.
D. E-cigarettes benefit both smokers and non-smokers.
29. According to the author, e-cigarettes ___________.
A. matter less to heavy smokers
B. are right alternatives to smokers
C. shouldn’t be overvalued
D. should be made cheap
30. What’s the purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce an invention.
B. To describe the wide spread of e-cigarettes.
C. To explain the injury from breathing cigarettes.
D. To show how to smoke e-cigarettes.

参考范文
Dear teachers and friends,
I feel greatly honored to give a speech here on behalf of all the exchange students.
Living and studying here in Canada makes us very fulfilled. During our stay, we have a better understanding of the Canadian life, culture, society and so on, which have not only enriched our knowledge but also broadened our horizon. Apart from that, our abilities including listening, speaking and writing English have also got greatly improved. And it is all the English teachers and classmates here that we should owe many thanks to. Without their help, we couldn’t achieve so much.
True friendship never ends, so I hope we can keep in touch with each other even after we go back home. And I also sincerely hope that someday you can come to China for a visit.
That’s all! Thank you!。
