九年级下册英语作业第一次月考作文范文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My First Big Exam in 9th GradeWow, I can't believe I'm actually in 9th grade already! It feels like just yesterday I was a little kid in elementary school without a care in the world. Now the stakes are getting higher with each passing year of school. My parents keep reminding me how important it is to do well, especially with the big exam coming up at the end of this semester. I have to admit, I'm really nervous about it.The exam is going to cover everything we've learned in English class since the beginning of the school year. That's a ton of vocabulary words, grammar rules, reading comprehension skills, and writing techniques to try to keep straight in my head. Sometimes I find myself spacing out during class instead of paying attention like I should. Maybe if I actually listened instead of daydreaming about playing video games, I wouldn't be so worried right now!My teacher, Ms. Roberts, is super strict but I know she's just trying to prepare us as best as she can. She's always going on about how this exam will be one of the biggest challenges we face in 9th grade. I remember when she passed out a practice test a few weeks ago and I struggled so much trying to get through all the questions. By the time the class ended, I had broken out in a sweat from all the mental energy I had exerted. So many of the reading passages were really complex with difficult vocabulary that I'm just not used to seeing. Don't even get me started on the writing portion - coming up with awell-structured, grammatically correct essay under a time crunch is brutal!I really need to start taking this exam way more seriously than I have been. Mom and Dad have been on me to start a study group with some friends to help keep each other accountable and fill in the gaps where one person is struggling. I've been slacking a bit on that front, only getting together with my buddies every now and then to do some last-minute cramming. We mostly just end up getting distracted and goofing around instead of productive studying. I can definitely see the benefit of working together consistently though, especially for subjects like English where there's so much material to cover.Ms. Roberts has been great about providing us tons of resources and practice materials in the weeks leading up to the exam. She photocopied all these old exam papers for us to work through and identify our weaknesses. I have a massive binder full of them that I really should have been chipping away at bit by bit. Instead, I procrastinated like always and now it's becoming a overwhelming mountain of papers to tackle with only a couple weeks until go time. Why do I always do this to myself? You'd think I would learn after doing the same thing over and over again. In a way, I'm actually looking forward to a tiny bit to taking this exam, as weird as that sounds. It's going to be a nice sense of relief once it's over and the constant worrying can go away. And of course, if I can do well, maybe my parents will finally get off my back about needing to apply myself more in school. They'll be thrilled if I prove to them that I took it seriously by getting a good grade. No more accusations of me slacking off or not living up to my potential. It would be a big weight off my shoulders. These last couple of weeks before the exam are going to be pretty intense. I need to go into serious lockdown mode - minimize playing games or watching YouTube, no more senseless procrastination, and hit those practice tests hard everysingle day. Maybe I'll even look into getting a tutor to make sure there aren't any areas I'm neglecting or struggling with. Ms. Roberts is great about staying after class to meet with students who need extra help too. I should definitely take advantage of those opportunities rather than just rolling the dice.I know I have it in me to do well on this thing, I just need to want it badly enough and put in the necessary work to get there. It's going to take a lot of discipline and mental focus, but I can do it. I need to visualize that moment when I get my test back with a grade that I'm proud of. The satisfaction I'll feel will make all the late nights studying worth it. Just gotta keep that goal in mind and power through!Alright, it's time to stop stressing and psyching myself out. I've gotten this far by taking things one step at a time, so that's what I'll continue to do. First step - go through all the materials Ms. Roberts provided one more time and make a list of concepts or skills篇2Certainly! Here's an essay of around 2,000 words written from a ninth-grader's perspective for their monthly English exam:My First High School ExperienceHey there! I'm a ninth-grader, and let me tell you, high school is a whole new world! It's been a wild ride so far, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Buckle up, because I'm about to share my first high school experience with you!The first day of high school was a whirlwind of emotions. I was equal parts excited and terrified. I'd heard all sorts of stories about how tough high school can be, and I wasn't sure if I was ready. But as soon as I stepped through those doors, I knew there was no turning back. The school building itself was massive! It looked like a maze of classrooms and hallways. I kept getting lost and accidentally wandering into the wrong classrooms. It was so embarrassing! But the other students were really nice and helped me find my way.Speaking of the other students, high school has a lot more people than my old elementary school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but it's also really cool to meet so many new faces. I've already made a few new friends, and they're all super awesome. The classes themselves are a lot more challenging than what I'm used to. The teachers expect a lot more from us, and theworkload is intense. I've had to stay up late studying more times than I can count. But you know what? It's actually kind of fun to learn new things and push myself. One of my favorite classes so far is English. Our teacher, Mrs. Wilson, is hilarious! She always makes the lessons entertaining with her funny stories and jokes. Plus, she's really supportive and helps us whenever we get stuck. I used to dread English class, but now it's one of the highlights of my day.And then there's the whole social hierarchy thing. It's like a whole new world of cliques and popularity contests. I try not to get too caught up in all that drama, but it's hard to avoid sometimes. I just focus on being myself and surrounding myself with good friends.Overall, though, my first high school experience has been pretty amazing. It's been a steep learning curve, but I'm slowly but surely finding my groove. I've already grown so much as a person, and I know there's so much more growth and adventure to come.Who knows what the next four years will bring? I'm sure there will be ups and downs, triumphs and struggles. But I'm ready to embrace it all and make the most of my high schoolyears. This is just the beginning of my journey, and I can't wait to see where it takes me.So, there you have it – my first high school experience in all its glory (and occasional chaos). It's been a wild ride so far, but I wouldn't have it any other way. High school, bring it on! I'm ready for whatever comes next.篇3My Summer Vacation AdventuresYay, summer vacation is finally here! No more waking up early, no more homework, no more tests...at least for a couple months. I've been looking forward to this summer break all year long. After being stuck in the classroom for what feels like forever, I'm so ready for some fun in the sun and no responsibilities! My parents have been asking me what I want to do over the vacation. To be honest, I don't really have too many big plans. I'm just happy to sleep in, hang out with my friends, play video games, and not have to worry about school for a little while. But my parents seem to think I need to have some kind of schedule or activities lined up. They're always saying things like "You can't just laze around all summer!" and "You need to exercise yourbrain!" Yeah, yeah, I know. They make it sound like we're going to some fancy summer camp or something. The first week was pretty laid back. I slept until noon a few days and didn't put on real pants for like 4 days straight. It was glorious! My friends and I would meet up at the park and play basketball or just goof around. A couple times we went to the movies to see whatever new superhero flick was out. My dad took me mini-golfing one day too, which was actually pretty fun even though I'm terrible at it.After that initial week of pure laziness though, my mom said it was time to "get productive." She signed me up for this reading club at the local library. At first I wasn't too excited about it, but it ended up being not too bad. We had to read a book every couple weeks and then meet up to discuss it. Some of the books were actually kind of interesting, and it gave me a chance to see friends while feeling accomplished. The best part of the summer so far was definitely our family vacation though! We went to the beach for a full week and stayed at this really cool beach house right by the ocean. I loved waking up and having the salty sea air blowing through the windows. Every morning I would run straight into the waves and body surf until my arms couldn't paddle anymore. The ocean wasso refreshing and relaxing. We went mini golfing again, had beachside barbecues and bonfires at night, and I even took a surf lesson! I was terrible at surfing but it was a total blast. On the car ride home, my little sister started crying because she didn't want to leave the beach. I felt that. This summer has been such an awesome break from the normal routine. Part of me doesn't want it to end either! But I guess all good things must come to an end eventually. At least I've got some fun memories and great stories about my summer adventures to tell my friends when I get back to school.I'm actually kind of looking forward to going back, believe it or not. Not for the classes and homework, obviously. But I do miss seeing my friends every day and being part of after-school activities and clubs. The reading club gave me a small taste of that social interaction which I need to survive. As fun as lounging around at home in my pajamas is, I'd go crazy if I had to do it for too long with nobody around besides my family.Plus, and don't tell my parents I said this, but I think a small part of me has even started to miss learning new things. My brain felt a little underused at some points over the summer, with the exception of the reading club. Sure, school can be a drag with all the busy work and tedious assignments. But I dogenuinely enjoy exploring new ideas, concepts, and areas of knowledge that genuinely interest me.There's a certain satisfaction you get from learning something new and adding to your overall understanding of the world, you know? Like when you finally grasp that super confusing math concept after struggling with it forever. Or when you read an amazing book or enlightening article that gives you all new insights and perspectives. Or even just mastering a new trick on your skateboard through pure practice and perseverance. That feeling of accomplishment is pretty addictive.篇4My Life as an Elementary School StudentHello there! My name is Sam and I'm an 11-year-old elementary school student. I thought I'd share with you all about my daily life and what it's like being a kid in 5th grade.First off, I have to wake up pretty early each morning around 6:30am. My mom is usually the one who comes into my room to wake me up. I'm definitely not a morning person, so it's always a struggle to get out of my cozy warm bed! Once I finally drag myself up, I get ready for school by taking a shower, brushing myteeth, getting dressed in my school uniform, and having a quick breakfast like cereal or toast. At 7:45am, my dad drives me to school which is just a few blocks away. The drive doesn't take too long, but there's sometimes traffic which makes us run late. I really don't like being late to school because the teachers make you get a tardy slip from the office. So embarrassing! My first class starts at 8:15am and that's usually math. I actually like math because I find the problems fun to solve, kind of like little puzzles. My math teacher, Mr. Garcia, is pretty nice too. After math, I have reading class with Mrs. Thompson. Reading is probably my least favorite subject just because I find some of the books we read to be kind of boring. At 10am, we get a short snack break where I can quickly eat a granola bar and stretch my legs by walking around outside for 15 minutes. Then it's back to class for science and social studies before lunch at 11:30am.Lunchtime is definitely one of the highlights of my day at school! I get so hungry by that point. The cafeteria food isn't amazing, but I'll usually get a small pizza, some veggies with ranch dressing, and a milk carton. I sit with my group of best friends - Jake, Emma, Sophia, and Ryan. We laugh a lot and talkabout things like video games, movies, sports, or whatever drama is currently happening with our classmates. After lunch, we have PE class a couple days a week which is basically just an hour of running around and playing games like kickball or dodgeball. I'm not super athletic but I still have fun.The rest of the afternoon is spent in more academic classes like writing, art, and computers. In writing class, we're often given journal prompts to respond to or have to write short stories. Art is probably my favorite special just because I enjoy being creative and making things. Computers class is useful too because we learn skills like typing and using basic programs. Finally, the long school day ends at 3pm. Phew! I'm always exhausted by that point. My dad comes to pick me up and then I just go home and relax. I'll have an after-school snack like apple slices with peanut butter and work on any homework I have for a little bit.My evenings are pretty chill. Once my homework is done, I can watch a bit of TV, play outside if the weather is nice, read, or hang out with family. We'll have dinner around 6:30pm, maybe something like tacos, spaghetti, or baked chicken with veggies. After dinner, I take a shower and then it's pretty much bedtimefor me around 8 or 8:30pm. I need to get lots of sleep to recharge for another busy day tomorrow! The weekends are definitely my favorite time. I get to sleep in late, with no school to worry about! Saturdays are usually when I have my sports practice or games for things like soccer, baseball, or basketball depending on the season. Sundays are more laid-back family days where we'll go to church, out to a park, or maybe run some errands. I also get some freedom to just hang out with my friends in the neighborhood.Overall, being an elementary school kid means my life is a good mix of work and play. The school days are long and require lots of focus, but I get evenings and weekends off to pursue my hobbies, be with family, and just act like a kid! I have tons of energy and am always on the move between school, activities, and hanging with my friends.I know that pretty soon I'll be moving on to middle school and then eventually high school, where things will get even more challenging and complicated. But for now, I'm just trying to soak up and enjoy this elementary school stage of life. Fun times! Well, I've got to get going now - time for my soccer practice soon. See you later!篇5My School Life: Ups, Downs and Everything In BetweenHey there! I'm Sam, a 9th grader at Oakwood High, and boy, do I have stories to tell! School has been a wild ride filled with adventures, struggles, and tons of unforgettable moments. Buckle up because I'm about to take you on a journey through the highs, lows, and all the twists and turns of my school life so far.Let's start with the good stuff, shall we? One of the biggest highlights has to be making awesome new friends. I still remember my first day of 9th grade, feeling like a tiny fish in a massive pond. But it didn't take long for me to find my crew – a bunch of quirky, fun-loving people who just got me, you know? We've been inseparable ever since, sharing laughs, supporting each other, and making countless memories along the way.Speaking of memories, I can't forget about the time our class went on a field trip to the science museum. It was supposed to be an educational day, but it quickly turned into a hilarious adventure. From getting lost in the maze of exhibits to accidentally setting off a few too many interactive displays, wecertainly kept the museum staff on their toes! Let's just say we learned more about chaos theory than anticipated. Then there was the great debate team debacle of sophomore year. Public speaking has never been my forte, and when I had to argue a case in front of the entire school, let's just say my palms were sweatier than a sauna! But you know what? I pushed through my nerves, and although I didn't win, I gained a newfound confidence in myself. That experience showed me that stepping out of your comfort zone is scary, but it's also where the real growth happens. And let's not forget about the extracurriculars! From joining the drama club and performing in school musicals to playing on the soccer team and scoring the winning goal in the championship game, these activities have allowed me to explore my passions, develop new skills, and create memories that will last a lifetime. But perhaps the most significant aspect of my school life has been the personal growth I've experienced. Looking back at my younger self, I can hardly recognize that shy, insecure kid. Over the years, I've learned to embrace my quirks, speak up for myself, and develop a sense of confidence that I never thought possible.School has been a crucible of sorts, forging me into a stronger, wiser, and more resilient version of myself. As I approach the end of my high school journey, I can't help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia. I'm thrilled to embark on the next chapter of my life, but I'll also miss the familiarity and comfort of these halls. The friendships forged, the lessons learned, and the memories made will stay with me forever, shaping who I am and inspiring me to keep growing and pushing boundaries. So, there you have it – a whirlwind tour of my school life thus far. It's been a rollercoaster ride filled with laughter, tears, triumphs, and failures, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Because at the end of the day, it's these experiences that have made me who I am today, and I can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead. Thanks for joining me on this journey, and remember –school may be tough, but embrace every moment, learn from your mistakes, and never stop chasing your dreams. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be the one sharing your wild school stories with someone else!篇6My Amazing Summer VacationThis summer was the best one yet! I had so many incredible adventures and made tons of new friends. I can't wait to tell you all about it.The summer started off with a bang when my parents surprised me and my little brother with a trip to Hawaii! We had never been anywhere that exotic before. The plane ride was really long but it was so worth it when we landed and saw the gorgeous beaches and palm trees. Our hotel was right on the beach and had about a million swimming pools. I spent almost every day swimming, snorkeling, and building elaborate sand castles. My little brother kept trying to smash my castles, but I out-maneuvered him by building a moat around them filled with crabs to guard my architectural masterpieces. One day we went on a boat tour and got to see dolphins and whales up close! The whales were humongous - I had no idea they were so massive. The dolphins were adorable and kept swimming alongside our boat, jumping out of the water. I made friends with another kid on the boat and we competed to see who could get the dolphins to do more tricks. My favorite activity though was taking surf lessons. At first I was terrible and couldn't even stand up on the board. But after a few days of practice, I was finally able to ride some small waves. By the end of the trip, I was a total pro! Well, maybe not a pro...but I was pretty good for a beginner. The surf instructors said I was a natural. My proudest moment was when I was able to do a small jump over an incoming wave. I was soaring through the air for a brief second - it was an incredible feeling! We also went on an amazing hiking trip through the mountains and got to see wild animals like birds and small lizards up close. The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking. You could see the whole island surrounded by bright blue ocean for miles and miles. Our tour guide taught us about the history of the island and the different types of plants and animals. It was fun but also educational!Towards the end of the trip, we visited a volcano that had lava tubes you could go inside and explore. It was very dark and a little creepy in there, but our guide made sure we were safe. We saw some ancient cave drawings and formations made from cooled lava. I've never seen anything like it before - it felt like being on another planet! After two weeks of tropical bliss, it was sadly time to return home. I was really going to miss Hawaii and all the fun we had. But I was also excited to see my friends again and tell them about my awesome trip. I hope I get to go back to Hawaii again someday! The rest of summer was a bit more low-key, but I still had a blast hanging out with my friends and staying up way too late. We had endless sleepovers, went to the movies, rode our bikes around the neighborhood, and just goofed around being silly kids. One night we had an epic all-night mock battlefield in the woods behind my friend's house. We used our flashlights as spotlights to scout for "the enemy" and tried sneaking up on each other's forts in the darkness. We got so muddy and scratched up from the branches, but it was totally worth it. My friend's mom was not too happy about the mess we tracked inside though...Another memorable night was when we had a bonfire and told scary stories until we were too freaked out to sleep. I'll never forget the story my friend told about the hairy man-beast that lived in the nearby park. He had us all completely convinced it was real! Every noise in the distance made us jump. Looking back,it was probably just a raccoon, but at the time we were utterly terrified. The last few weeks of summer I spent getting ready to go back to school and soaking up as much freedom as possible. My friends and I vowed to make this school year the best yet. We're all taking fun electives like art, drama, and cooking classes together. And we've already planned our first major prank on the teachers (just kidding...or am I?)So while I'm definitely sad summer is over, I'm also really excited for 9th grade and all the new adventures heading my way.I just need to power through and survive this first month of intense coursework and tests like this English essay. Then I'll be back to living it up again soon enough! This was hands-down the most fun summer ever, and I can't wait to make more amazing memories this school year with my best friends by my side.。

Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice.Passage 1Hotlines (热线)have become common in China. Some radio stations use hotlines to encourage the listeners to take part in the talk shows. That's a good idea. Yet, the fact is, some people do nothing but break the whole program. Some people know little about the topic(话题)under discussion. Sometimes they do not even know what the host(主持人)is talking about. So the host has to tell the caller what the show is about. Usually the caller will ask a few questions which express his hope and show his ignorance(无知).Then the host has to answer and explain —how silly this is ! It wastes a lot of time. It seems that some people phone the hotlines in fun. They just want to let the listeners hear them. They don't care what the topic is, whether they themselves are interested in or how silly they appear to be. I'm totally bored by those people. A film made in this way will leave the audience(观众)cold. And even worse you’ll be wasting a powerful tool --- the camera.A stage is actually a box. One side of the box has been removed(挪开) so the audience can see what’s going on inside. The actors remain at a fixed audience. In the film, however, the camera can bring the audience up close and fix their attention on small but important things: a frightened look, a whisper, a trembling of hands. The camera offers the film maker freedom allowing him to move easily across barriers(界限) of time and space. He can show his action in real cities and on real farms. He can also use the camera to change the scene dozens of times in one film. No expert of the stage can do this.46. [本题1分](C) effort41.The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts.Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participa te in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. It oftenappears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal supplier of information and cash.In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator. Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals. Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established betw een negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator.Clearly, perceptions and differences in values affect the outcomes of negotiations and the success of negotiators. For Americans to play a more effective role in international business negotiations, they must put forth more effort to improve cross-cultural understanding.1、What kind of manager is needed in present international business and foreign investment? [本题2分](B) The man with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication.2、According to the passage, international business negotiation involves . [本题2分](C) Americans has played a more effective role in international business negotiations.5) What is the topic of this passage? [本题2分](C) International business and cross-cultural communication42.How much will international students have misconceptions about the U.S.? In an effort to quash some myths, here are the four most common stereotypes regarding college education in the United States.Myth 1: American students are not as academically driven in comparison to other nations. There are more than 3,000 universities in the United States. Some are highly selective, some not at all. The less selective colleges may consist of students who have little concern for their academic well-being, but in the more selective colleges you will find very committed students who will spend countless hours at night on their homework. This is a phrase in the United States called an ―all nighter‖ which is used when a student stays up all night to perfect an assignment. In truth, it is an issue of prid e. Myth 2: American students party all night and day. While American students do enjoy the freedom to explore a full lifestyle, they are also expected to keep up with very high standards of social behavior and academic excellence. Internation al students often join clubs or organizations where they can become involved in exciting programs both on and off campus.Myth 3: American students are all rich and can afford a college education.Although a certain percentage of American college students do come from wealthy families and have large expendable incomes, most American college students come from moderate-income families. Most American students enter college knowing they must apply for loans, work part-time, and earn scholarships in order to meet their financial obligations.Myth 4: Most Americans (and college students) live in large cities which are crime-ridden with drugs and drive-by shootings.Of all industrialized nations, the United States has one of the lowest crime rates. College campuses are no exception. Safety is of primary importance to all students, parents, and staff at universities.Universities centered in major cities have endless services to ensure the safety of all students, from campus transportation services to on-campus police officers. Most of universities located outside of the city are very safe, and various precautions are made based on their demographic situation.(1) According to the passage, the word ―myth‖ means _______. [本题2分](B) misunderstanding2) In selective colleges, you will find students_______. [本题2分](C) spend countless hours on their homework(3) Which of the following is NOT the way most American students pay for their college educatio n? [本题2分](D) Borrow money from their parents4) College campuses in the United States _______. [本题2分](A) are very safe(5) According to the passage, what can we learn about American college students? [本题2分](B) Some students have little concern for their academic well-being.43.In the United States there are six million tennis players and twelve million golfers. These figur es would not surprise most people. But many would be surprised to learn that twenty million Am ericans ride motorcycles. Few people realize that motorcycling is fast becoming one of America’s most popular sports. Many kinds of people enjoy motorcycling. The average American motorcyclist is between the ages of twenty-one and thirty-five. He owns his own house, and has a wife, more than one child, and at least one car. He is a responsible citizen.Cycle Magazine, a monthly publication with almost 280,000 readers, claims that about fifty-five per cent of American motorcyclists are businessmen, with three per cent in the professions and nine per cent in government service. Such information is offered by motorcyclists in the hope of i mproving the general p ublic’s impression of their sport. The public has tended to believe that all motorcycles are ridden by wild, irresponsible, lawless young man. There are several things about motorcycling that the average citizen dislikes. Motorcyclists oft en look dirty; in fact, they are dirty. On the road there is little to protect them from mud, crushe d insects, and bird droppings. For practical reasons they often dress in old clothing which looks much less respectable than the clothing of people who ride in cars.Probably the machine itself also produces anger and fear.Motorcycles are noisy, though som e big trucks are even noisier. But trucks are big and carry heavy loads; they are accepted beca use they perform a needed service, making America move. Motorcycles, on the other hand, make an unpleasant noise just to give their riders pleasure. That is what is commonly thought.Of course the danger of motorcycling also helps account for many people’s low opinion of th e sport. Its defenders, however, claim that careful cyclists are in less danger than is commonly b elieved. As motorcycling becomes more common in years to come, it will be interesting to see how p eople in general feel about the sport. Perhaps it will someday become as ―respectable‖ as tennis or golf.(1) Motorcyclists . That’s why textbooks vary greatly from school to school, and from teacher to teacher e ven though they are all teaching the same subject in the same grade. Some schools provide bo oks to use, but teachers do not strictly follow them. They only use them as a reference, and enj oy pointing out mistakes and wrong information given in the books. They often share their own p oints of view with their students. Teaching like this has many advantages. Teachers can bring ou t their expertise, fully elaborating their most familiar areas. Students are more interested in what t hey are studying. Also this flexible teaching style benefits students in the development of critical t hinking skills and the ability to apply them. On the other hand teaching like this also has many drawbacks. It causes uneven study levels. It is even more so among different schools and distric ts. Students in the same grade do not usually have a thorough understandi ng of a subject taught in the same school year. The teacher for the following year would have to spend a lot of time f inding out what the students already know or do not know in the subject before starting his/her own teaching plan. Some parts may be repeated, resulting in waste of time; and other parts may not be covered at all.Exams in American schools are much less rigid than those in China. Teaching is flexible, so are exams. Even if you memorized the whole textbook, it might not be of much help in the exa ms. My Chinese friend envied me for not having to worry about the competition for attending the best schools by taking endless exams.1) What are advantages of the flexible teaching style? People play different games in winter and summer.Games and sports often grow out of people's work and everyday activities. The Arabs use horses or camels in much of their everyday life; they use them in their sports, too. Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football, for example, has spread around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or in those with many rivers. Some sports or games go back to thousands of years ago, like running or jumping. Chinese boxing, for example, has a very long history. But basketball and volleyball are rather new. Neither one is a hundred years old yet. People are inventing new sports or games all the time.People from different countries may not be able to understand each other, but after a game they often become good friends. Sports help to train a person's character. One learns to fight hard but fight fair, to win without pride and to lose with grace.21、According to this passage we know that people began to play about one hundred years ago. A:TB:F22、The writer didn't tell us in this passage that basketball was invented in America.A:TB:F23、People all over the world enjoy sports because sports are interesting.A:TB:F24、From this passage we can see that according to the author sports and games are significant to our life in many respects.A:TB:F25、The writer's attitude towards sports is positive.A:TB:F二Many people who work in London prefer to live outside it, and to go in to their offices or schools every day by train, car or bus, even though this means they have to get up early in the morning and reach home late in the evening. One advantage of living outside London is that houses are cheaper. Even a small flat in London without a garden costs quite a lot to rent. With the same money, one can get a little house in the country with a garden of one's own. Then, in the country one can really get away from the noise and hurry of busy working lives. Even though one has to get up earlier and spend more time in trains or buses, one can sleep better at night and during weekends and on summer evenings, one can enjoy the fresh, clean air of the country. If one likes gardens, one can spend one's free time digging, planting, watering and doing the hundred and one other jobs which are needed in a garden. Then, when the flowers and vegetables come up, one has got the reward together with those who have shared the secret of Nature. Some people, however, take no interest in country things: for them, happiness lies in the town, with its cinemas and theatres, beautiful shops and busy streets, dance-halls and restaurants. Such people would feel that their life was not worth living if they had to live it outside London. An occasional walk in one of the parks and a fortnight's two weeks visit to the sea every summer is all the country they want: the rest they are quite prepared to leave to those who are glad to get away from London every night.26、Which of the following statements is NOT true_________A:People who love Nature prefer to live outside the city.B:People who work in London prefer to live in the country.C:Some people enjoying city life prefer to work and live inside London.D:Many nature lovers, though working in London, prefer to live outside the city.27、With the same money ________, one can buy a little house with a garden in the country.A:getting a small flat with a gardenB:having a small flat with a gardenC:renting a small flat without a gardenD:buying a small flat without a garden28、When the garden is in blossom, it means that one ________ has been rewarded.A:living in the countryB:having spent time working in the gardenC:having a garden of his ownD:having been digging, planting and watering29、People who think happiness lies in the town would feel that _______ if they had to live outside London.A:their life was meaninglessB:their life was invaluableC:they didn't deserve a happy lifeD:they were not worthy of their happy life30、The underlined phrase get away from in the 3rd paragraph refers to ________.A:deal withB:do away withC:escape fromD:prevent from三、完型填空Mr. Clarke works in a middle school. What is the topic sentence and why is it important?A topic sentence is a brief statement of the subject of the paragraph. It is very important because it determines the content of the whole paragraph. Therefore, special attention should be paid to it.5. Which sentence is the topic sentence in the following paragraph? My mother has passed along to me certain rules for getting along with others. Don't argue with parents;they will think you don't love them. Don't argue with children; they will think themselves victimized. Don't argue with spouses; they will think you are a tiresome mate. Don't argue with strangers; they will think you are not friendly. My mother's rules, in fact, can be summed up in two words: Don't argue. My mother has passed along to me certain rules for getting along with others.6. The following topic sentences are not good ones, try to make them better.●There is much to say about any problem.●Time is money●He found an old book in our library last Thursday afternoon●There is much to say about the problem of unemployment.●It is a shame to waste time in college years.● One of his interests is to spend time in libraries.7. Different people usually have different ways to stay healthy. In my opinion, the most important thing is to keep a healthy attitude toward life.It is true that physical factors affect on e’s health conditions a great deal, but at the same time, we should not neglect the mental factors. Many scientific researches have shown that anger, suspicion and envy do great harm to human bodies while being optimistic can cure some small diseases. We have also heard of many people who live much longer than doctors’ prediction after they have been diagnosed incurable diseases. That is, because they keep a good mood and struggle with the difficulties in life. Compared with those people who suffer serious physical pain, we healthy people are much more lucky and therefore have more reasons to maintain a healthy attitude to life no matter what kind of hardship life may give us.People use all kinds of methods to keep healthy because they want to live happily. Then in my point of view, there is no other way than keeping a healthy attitude toward life can make people happier or more healthy, both physically and mentally..Should Raising Pets be Banned? With the steady growth in the coun try’s economy as well as the people’s living standard, a great many city dwellers take up the hobby of keeping pets. To their mind, pets bring great happiness and fun to their life. In reality, pets have become a member of the pet owner’s family. However, recently this phenomenon has triggered a heated discussion as to whether city people should be allowed to raise pets. There are people on both sides of the argument who have very strong feelings. The pet lovers claim that raising a pet benefits us a lot. First of all, a pet is a faithful and obedient companion to its owner. Pets are affectionate and cute. Secondly, they possess the inborn ability to entertain people, providing a rich source of pleasure and fun. They help people rid their loneliness and ease the tense life pressure. Moreover, keeping a pet does good to childr5en’s psychological development, because it teaches children how to care for others and how to appreciate life while helping them to cultivate a strong sense of responsibility. Pets also have some practical uses. They can be a loyal companion, a doorkeeper or a guide dog. In some special cases, pets even act as the protector and savior of the owner. In a word, there are many advantages to keeping a pet at home.On the other hand, there are also many opponents who strongly condemn this hobby. From their point of view, pets bring far more harm than good to us city dwellers. To begin with it is a costly and time-consuming hobby. You have to accommodate them, care for them and spend time with them. How can a bustling city person afford that? Moreover, it is very dirty. They litter everywhere and may carry some fatal viruses, which are great threats to human health. They even spread some infectious diseases to their owners and sometimes even those people around the. Last of all, they are troublemakers to the neighborhood. Some pet dogs or cats enjoy barking or miaowing at midnight, which is an irritating disturbance to the neighbors. Pets may sometimes attack neighbors and passers-by. On some occasions, they cause some damage to other’s property. On any accounts, they are unwelcome and troublesome.J ust as the saying goes, “so many people, so many minds”, it is quite understandable that views on this issue vary from person to person. As far as I am concerned, it is advisable not to keep a pet in a city, because this hobby brings us more drawbacks than merits. If there were too many pets running on the streets, baking at night, lettering everywhere better give up this hobby for the common good.Unit 3: 说明文和描写文(Exposition and description)1. What is an exposition?Exposition means explaining or expounding something, the purpose of which is to inform or instruct, to make the reader understand what he reads. It is a kind of writing that is used often by a scientist, a specialist, a professional or a college student. In expository writing, the writer may present a concept, a process or a fact, and explain it by using the ways of listing the elements or steps, which make up the concept, the process or the fact. It deals with processes and relationships mainly.2. What are the common methods of writing an exposition?Illustration by example●Division and classification: The purpose of division is to divide a thing into parts and it is used to dealwith one thing.●Classification is used to organize things sharing certain qualities and the purpose of which is to groupthese things systematically.●Comparison and contrast: a comparison means the way to explain how things are similar; butcontrast explains how tings are different.●Cause and effect: it means a piece of expository writing which shows or explains the cause and effectof something.Definition: it means the way that a writer uses when he wants to introduce to the reader a new and unfamiliar term or concept.3. What is a Description?Description is painting a picture in words of a person, place, object, or scene. My favorite ColorWhen referring to colors, we have certain aspects of them. For instance, red may stand for passion, white for peace and purity, black for mystery, and so on. As far as I am concerned, blue is my favorite color, and there are a brief story and reasons behind it.The story could be traced back to my childhood. At the age of 8, I received a gift from my dear grandparents who paid their first overseas visit to Japan. It was a blue Mickey Mouse watch. The watchband was made of leather dyed in navy blue, and the watchcase was also of navy stainless with inside a cutenavy-uniformed Mickey Mouse whose hands pointed at the hours and minutes. At that time, about 22 years ago, this kind of watch was rare and Mickey Mouse seemed to me a fairytale which I could only imagine instead of possessing the real object; therefore, every time I put the watch on, I gained jealousy from my peer and classmate s. In other words, this behavior satisfied my childish vanity then. However, since it was a delicate and beautiful watch, I seldom put it on. On one rainy evening, my younger sister, Wen-fang, had a serious fever. Having decided to take her to see a do ctor, my mother had my brother on her back, held my other 2 sisters’ hands and asked me to embrace my sick young sister, and we walked half an hour to the clinic. After coming home, I found my Mickey Mouse watch disappeared. I hurried to seek for my lost watch in the exact path that we walked through, but couldn’t find it. I was quite sad about it, but fortunately, my sister soon recovered under the doctor’s treatment. Till now, I still remember that lost blue watch vividly and from then on, I made a specia l and favorable impression on blue. Moreover, it is magical that blue sky and blue sea have enchanting and amazing power over me. Whenever I am depressed, I especially enjoy looking up the blue sky and if it is allowed, I like going to see the deep blue oc eans as well. It’s a great relief to see the blue color, and it really soothes my nerves. Under this enormous blue vault, I, myself, and my depression are too tiny to be compared to it; the peaceful deep blue seas with the touchable melody of which the waves compose is the best cure for my unhappiness or sadness. To sum up, my definition of blue stands for relief and freedom of soul. Though some may consider blue is a sign of gloom, since I am an optimistic and independent person, when I am blue, I will tell myself to look on the bright side instead of including myself into being over sorrowful. I favor blue for its fine distinction and definition as mentioned above. Hence, I consider that no other colors are more suitable to me than blue. The Pet I KeptMany people have an experience of raising a pet. They may have different feeling and sensations towards their pets. No matter how they feel, the same feeling of having a pet is love. People treat their pets with love and the pets also spend their whole lives companying with their masters. When we have pets, we have to take care and love them. Therefore, keeping a pet is not a tough work but as a good learning experience to learn how to be responsible and patient.I kept a dog as a pet when I was in elementary school. Its name was “little white” because it was white in color. I got the puppy from my classmate because there were too many dogs after his mother-dog reproduced. He wanted me to pick up one from 7 puppies. I choose “little white” because it has a pair of beautiful and bright eyes and a very cute face. I happily brought it home and cleaned it and fed with milk. From that moment, the puppy became one of my family members.Few months later, when it grew up, it became a big dog with a short month, sharp teeth, bright eyes, a small black nose, fox-like ears and a feather duster-like tail. It had bad temper and was interested in bitinganything, especially people. I was been one of the victims. Although it got a terrible temper, it gave me the unforgettable and happy moments during my childhood. After possessing “little white”, I could have a little realization about how difficult of being parents. The puppy could have faces anywhere in the house and I got to clear them up. The defecation smelt bad and made me feel vomitive. Every time after I cleaned the feces, I shout to the puppy to release my bad emotion of cleaning the stink shit. Besides, I had to catch the fleas, which are too small to be caught on the puppy. Moreover, I had to clean the puppy regularly. The puppy was so hated to be scrub that it ran away when it heard “taking washing”. Therefore, every time I had to chase the dog on the street and catch it back and then tie it up and give a rinse. Thus, cleaning dog is not only a hard work but also an exhausted exercise. However, having a pet did not mean having a trouble. Sometimes, a pet can play an important role in our mental health. For example, when I was in bad mood, the puppy became my royal listener and stayed with me and never could not “complain” because it could not speak “human language” to grumble at me. When I was in good mood, I played with the dog and shared my happiness through having good time on the playground or giving some special abundant meals. On the contrary, the dog also had its own emotions and would have many special method of expressing its feeling. For instance, when “little white” was in good mood, it would ask me to play with it by “throwing” its “toys”, such as the fake bones or some clothes it liked to sleep with. Also, the “little white” had emotional reactions and would show its feeling on face. When the dog was happy, it would not only shake its tail but also “smile”. When the dog felt bored, it would ask me to play with it by biting my pants. When the puppy wanted to go out for fun, it would scratch the door and bark. When the dog was hungry, it would bark like “begging”. Although the puppy could not talk, it also could express its feeling through many ways In addition, the “little white” was also the security guide of family because of its “sharp nose, ears, and bad temper”. The dog almost barked at and bit anyone who tried to get into my house, including our friends, classmates, neighbors, visitors, and even the passerby except my family. Therefore, when the visitors came, we had to catch the “little white” and locked it into the “toilet” until the visitor left. After a long time, all my friends knew that I had a very bad temper dog.. As a result, keeping a pet is not a tough work but a good learning experience to learn how to be responsible and patient. After raising a dog, I not only learn how to take care of a dog but also realize that “little white” as a pet is a life, which has feelings and thought as human did and spends all its life with me, and depends on me, and trusts me. Therefore, I shall cherish the relation between us.Unit 4: 实用文(Practical writings)1. What aspects should you pay attention to when you design a cover letter?Whether mailing or hand-delivering a resume, always include a short covering letter. The following aspects you should especially pay attention to:●Address your letter to an individual, not to a title alone. Although you may address your resume to Mr.Patrick Burns, Marketing Manager, don't address your letter (or envelope) to Marketing Manager. The employer may conclude that, because you were unable or unwilling to search out his actual name, you will demonstrate an equal lack of initiative on the job. He may be instinctively more sympatheticto the applicant who uses his correct name.●Stipulate the type of job you are applying for. If you don't mention the specific job or type of work, itimplies that you are simply looking for "work." If so, you may not be the interested, motivated, anddedicated individual that the employer is looking for. Tell also what caused you to apply, whether anadvertisement, the recommendation of a friend who works there, etc, or your own research, etc. Bedirect and to the point. Don't waste the employer's time.●Be specific and factual. Mention any personal characteristics that may be relevant to the opening. Bespecific and factual. Avoid generalities and exaggeration. Back up any claim modestly and succinctly.●Be direct and natural. Write as if you were speaking face to face to the employer. Avoid ostentation.Stay clear of complicated grammar.●Be brief. Keep the letter to one page. Write as if you were speaking face to face to the employer.Avoid ostentation. Stay clear of complicated grammar.●Be brief. Keep the letter to one page.●Propose a next step (e.g., a meeting).●Tailor your letter to different readers. Although you may want to send the same resume to allemployers, you probably should vary the covering letter somewhat in order to emphasize differentinterests or strengths. Certain of your qualifications may be of more importance to one employer than to another.2. Write on Answer sheet one a note of about 50-60 words based on the following situation:You have heard that your friend, Jack, wishes to sell his walkman. Write him a note expressing your interest in it, asking him about its condition and offering a price for it.December 7, 2011 Dear Jack,I have heard that you want to sell your walkman. You know, I want to buy a used walkman in order to do some listening practice. I want to know if your walkman functions well. And I offer 200 yuan to buy it. Suppose now you are a freshman (大一学生) in a college. You want to have a part-time job. Yet yourparents don’t agree with you and urge you to focus your time and energy on your study. Now write a letter no less than 150 words to tell them the importance and value of part-time job to a college student, ensure them that you can balance your study and the part-time job well, and therefore persuade them to agree with your choice at last.Pay attention to the form of a letter: the heading, the salutation, complementary ending , and makeyour letter as powerful as possible.October 20, 2011Dear,In our country there are more and more college students undertaking a part-time job or even more than one part-time job. It’s becoming quite common to see students busy running errands after lessons.Although it is a truth that for a college student, his most important goal must be to learn well and to get a high score in examinations, it surely does not need to be the only target. In fact, college life which consists of only study is not balanced and may cause the student to miss out on other valuable learning experiences. In addition to bringing more balance to a student’s life, part-time work can broaden his social experience. He will have the precious opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and will be faced with a wider variety of problems to solve. Furthermore, work helps a student to develop greater independence, and earning his own pocket money can teach him how to handle his finances. Finally, a part-time job can help a student to develop a greater sense of responsibility and team-work spirit, both for his own work and for that of the team he works with. For all of these reasons above, I firmly believe that most students would benefit from taking a part-time job while they are at college. Of course, they must be careful not to let it take up too much of their time because study is still their primary responsibility. To sum up, living a balanced life is the best way to be successful.Sincerely,Wang Yingzhi。
