After reading King Lear, I was left with a feeling of profound sadness and a deep sense of reflection. The play, written by William Shakespeare, is a tragic tale of power, betrayal, and the consequences of pride and arrogance. The complex characters and the intense emotional journey theygo through left a lasting impact on me, and I found myself contemplating the themes and messages long after I had finished reading. One of the most striking aspects of King Lear is the portrayal of the destructive nature of pride and the consequences of unchecked arrogance. The character of King Lear himself is a perfect example of this, as his pride and stubbornness lead to his downfall and the tragic eventsthat unfold throughout the play. His inability to see beyond his own ego and his refusal to listen to the adviceof those who truly care for him ultimately leads to his demise. This serves as a powerful reminder of the dangersof vanity and the importance of humility and self-awareness.The theme of betrayal is also central to the play, aswe witness the treachery and deceit that occurs withinLear's own family. The betrayal by his daughters, Goneril and Regan, is particularly heartbreaking, as they turn against their father and contribute to his suffering. This aspect of the story serves as a cautionary tale about the destructive power of betrayal and the devastating impact it can have on individuals and families. The play also delves into the complexities of human relationships and the dynamics of family, loyalty, and love. The strained relationship between Lear and his daughters,as well as the loyalty and devotion of characters like Kent and Cordelia, offer a poignant exploration of the bondsthat tie us together and the challenges that can arisewithin these relationships. The portrayal of these dynamics is both raw and honest, and it left me with a profound appreciation for the intricacies of human connection. In addition to these themes, King Lear also offers a thought-provoking commentary on the nature of power and theresponsibilities that come with it. The struggles for power and the abuse of authority that occur throughout the play serve as a reminder of the corrupting influence of powerand the need for responsible leadership. This aspect of the story is particularly relevant in today's world, and itleft me with a sense of urgency to reflect on the impact of power and the importance of using it wisely.Overall, King Lear is a deeply moving and thought-provoking play that left a lasting impression on me. The themes of pride, betrayal, family, and power are asrelevant today as they were when the play was first written, and the emotional journey of the characters is both captivating and harrowing. It is a timeless masterpiecethat continues to resonate with audiences, and I amgrateful for the opportunity to have experienced it. Shakespeare's ability to capture the complexities of the human experience is truly unparalleled, and I am certainthat King Lear will continue to inspire and provoke thought for generations to come.。
Reflections on "Who is the King of the Forest"The captivating book "Who is the King of the Forest" delves into the intricate and fascinating world of the forest ecosystem, inviting readers to explore the dynamic relationships and hierarchies that exist within this diverse and complex environment. As I immersed myself in the pages, I was captivated by the vivid descriptions and the thought-provoking insights that the author presented, leaving me with a renewed appreciation for the intricate web of life that thrives in the heart of the forest. One of the most striking aspects of the book was the author's ability to personify the various inhabitants of the forest, each with their own unique characteristics and roles within the greater community. From the mighty lion, the self-proclaimed "King of the Forest," to the cunning fox, the resourceful squirrel, and the industrious ant, the narrative brought these creatures to life, allowing me to understand their motivations, their struggles, and their place within the delicate balance of the forest.Throughout the book, the author skillfully guides the reader througha series of thought-provoking events and encounters, challenging the traditional notions of hierarchy and power. The lion, confident in its status as the dominant predator, faces a series of challenges that force it to confront its own assumptions and vulnerabilities. As the narrative unfolds, the reader is invited to question the legitimacy of the lion's claim to the throne and to consider the perspectives of the other inhabitants of the forest. One of the most compelling aspects of the book was the way in which the author explored the concept of leadership and the qualities that define a true ruler. The lion's brute strength and intimidation tactics are contrasted with the more subtle and adaptive approaches of other forest dwellers, such as the fox's cunning and the ants' collective intelligence. This juxtaposition highlights the idea that true leadership is not merely about raw power, but rather a delicate balance of strength, wisdom, and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the community. As I delved deeper into the narrative, I was struck by the author's masterful use of vivid imagery and descriptive language. The lush and vibrant descriptions of the forest, from the towering canopy to the intricate understory, transported me to this enchanting world, allowing me to immerse myself fully in the unfolding drama. The author's attention to detail and the way in which they captured the nuances of the forest's inhabitants were particularly impressive, evoking a sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world. One of the most thought-provoking aspects of the book was the way in which it explored the theme of interdependence and the fragility of the forest ecosystem. The author skillfully wove a narrative that underscored the delicate balance that exists between the various species, and the consequences that can arise when this balance is disrupted. The book's exploration of the roles and responsibilities of the different inhabitants of the forest, as well as the consequences of their actions, served as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting the natural world. As I turned the final pages of the book, I found myself reflecting on the deeper messages and themes that the author had so masterfully woven into the narrative. The exploration of leadership, power, and the complex relationships within the forest ecosystem served as a metaphor for the human experience, inviting the reader to consider the parallels between the natural world and our own social and political structures. In the end, "Who is the King of the Forest" is a captivating and thought-provoking work that not only entertains but also challenges the reader to reconsider their understanding of the natural world and their own place within it. The author's skillful storytelling, coupled with their deep understanding of the forest ecosystem, hascreated a work that is both engaging and enlightening, leaving a lasting impression on the reader.。

When the day came, Lear would like his three daughters to express their respect and love towards him in public. Equipped with authority, Goneril and Regan began to despise Lear and maltreated him, which reminded Lear of Cordelia who had been very kind to him.

King Lear- The aging king of Britain and the protagonist of the play. Lear is used to enjoyingabsolute power and to being flattered, and he does not respond well to being contradicted or challenged. At the beginning of the play, his values are notably hollow—he prioritizes the appearance of love over actual devotion and wishes to maintain the power of a king while unburdening himself of the responsibility. Nevertheless, he inspires loyalty in subjects such as Gloucester, Kent, Cordelia, and Edgar, all of whom risk their lives for him.An important question to ask is whether Lear develops as a character—whether he learns from his mistakes and becomes a better and more insightful human being. In some ways the answer is no: he doesn’t completely recover his sanity and emerge as a better king. But his values do change over the course of the play. As he realizes his weakness and insignificance in comparison to the awesome forces of the natural world, he becomes a humble and caring individual. He comes to cherish Cordelia above everything else and to place his own love for Cordelia above every other consideration, to the point that he would rather live in prison with her than rule as a king again.ThemesThemes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work.JusticeKing Lear is a brutal play, filled with human cruelty and awful, seemingly meaningless disasters. The play’s succession of terrible events raises an obvious question for the characters—namely, whether there is any possibility of justice in the world, or whether the world is fundamentally indifferent or even hostile tohumankind. Various characters offer their opinions: ―As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; / They kill us for their sport,‖ Gloucester muses, realizing it foolish for humankind to assume that the natural world works in parallel with socially or morally convenient notions of justice (4.1.37–38). Edgar, on the other hand, insists that ―the gods are just,‖ believing that individuals get what they deserve (5.3.169). But, in the end, we are left with only a terrifying uncertainty—although the wicked die, the good die along with them, culminating in the awful image of Lear cradling Cordelia’s body in his arms. There is goodness in the world of the play, but there is also madness and death, and it is difficult to tell which triumphs in the end.Authority versus ChaosKingThe two elderly characters who suffer the most in the play are Lear and Gloucester. Their stories are similar in many ways; however, while Lear slowly goes mad, Gloucester is blinded but remains sane. Shakespeare implies a parallel between thetwo conditions: Lear and Gloucester both seem to be able to perceive certain things more clearly after they lose their faculties. Lear realizes only as he begins to go mad that Cordelia loves him and that Goneril and Regan are treacherous flatterers. He comes to understand the weakness of human nature, the emptiness of royal claims to power, and the similarity of all human beings as he rambles in his insanity. Similarly, Gloucester comes to understand which son is really good and which is bad at the very moment of his blinding. Still, both Lear and Gloucester sink into despair before their deaths. It is interesting to note that Lear’s eyesight fails in the moments just before he dies, while Gloucester wishes himself insane, thinking he might thus bear his misery more easily. This grim irony suggests a hopelessness that contributes to the general gloom surrounding the play’s end.CloseMadnessInsanity occupies a central place in the play and is associated with both disorder and hidden wisdom. The Fool, who offers Lear insight in the early sections of the play, offers his counsel in a seemingly mad babble. Later, when Lear himself goes mad, the turmoil in his mind mirrors the chaos that has descended upon his kingdom. At the same time, however, it also provides him with important wisdom by reducing him to his bare humanity, stripped of all royal pretensions. Lear thuslearns humility. He is joined in his real madness by Edgar’s feigned insanity, which also contains nuggets of wisdom for the king to mine. Meanwhile, Edgar’s time as a supposedly insane beggar hardens him and prepares him to defeat Edmund at the close of the play.BetrayalBetrayals play a critical role in the play and show the workings of wickedness in both the familial and political realms—here, brothers betray brothers and children betray fathers. Goneril and Regan’s betrayal of Lear raises them to power in Britain, where Edmund, who has betrayed both Edgar and Gloucester, joins them. However, the play suggests that betrayers inevitably turn on one another, showing how Goneril and Regan fall out when they both become attracted to Edmund, and how their jealousies of one another ultimately lead to mutual destruction. Additionally, it is important to remember that the entire play is set in motion by Lear’s blind, foolish betrayal of Cordelia’s love for him, which reinforces that at the heart of every betrayal lies a skewed set of values.SymbolsCordeliaCordelia’s chief characteristics are devotion, kindness, beauty, and honesty—honesty to a fault, perhaps. She is contrasted throughout the play with Goneril and Regan, who are neither honest nor loving, and who manipulate theirfather for their own ends. By refusing to take part in Lear’s love test at the beginning of the play, Cordelia establishes herself as a repository of virtue, and the obvious authenticity of her love for Lear makes clear the extent of the king’s error in banishing her. For most of the middle section of the play, she is offstage, but as we observe the depredations of Goneril and Regan and watch Lear’s descent into madness, Cordelia is never far from the audience’s thoughts, and her beauty is venerably described in religious terms. Indeed, rumors of her return to Britain begin to surface almost immediately, and once she lands at Dover, the action of the play begins to move toward her, as all the characters converge on the coast. Cordelia’s reunion with Lear marks the apparent restoration of order in the kingdom and the triumph of love and forgiveness over hatred and spite. This fleeting moment of familial happiness makes the devastating finale of King Lear that much more cruel, as Cordelia, the personification of kindness and virtue, becomes a literal sacrifice to the heartlessness of an apparently unjust world.Goneril and ReganThere is little good to be said for Lear’s older daughters, who are largely indistinguishable in their villainy and spite. Goneril and Regan are clever—or at least clever enough to flatter their father in the play’s opening scene—and, early in the play, their bad behavior toward Lear seems matched by his own pride and temper. But any sympathy that the audience can muster for them evaporates quickly, first when they turn their father out into the storm at the end of Act 2 and then when they viciously put out Gloucester’s eyes in Act 3. Goneril and Regan are, in a sense, personifications of evil—they have no conscience, only appetite. It is this greedy ambition that enables them to crush all opposition and make themselves mistresses of Britain. Ultimately, however, this same appetite brings about their undoing. Their desire for power is satisfied, but both harbor sexual desire forEdmund, which destroys their alliance and eventually leads them to destroy each other. Evil, the play suggests, inevitably turns in on itself.。
Once upon a time, in a far-off kingdom, there lived a king who was fond of dressing up in the most extravagant and fashionable attire. He was obsessed with looking his best at all times and spent a great deal of money on his wardrobe. The king's love for fine clothing was well-known throughout the land, and many people sought to please him by creating new and unique designs for him to wear. One day, two swindlers arrived in the kingdom, claiming to be the most skilled tailors in the world. They boastedthat they could create the most magnificent garments ever seen, using a special fabric that was invisible to anyone who was unfit for their position or too foolish to appreciate their work. The king, intrigued by this claim, summoned the tailors to his palace. The swindlers presented themselves before the king, bowing deeply and speaking in grandiose terms about their abilities. They told the king that they had invented a fabric so fine and delicate that it was invisible to anyone who was not fit to rule or was too simple-minded to see its beauty. The king, eager to possess such a wondrous garment, ordered them to make him a suit from this magical fabric. The swindlers set up their looms in an empty room and pretended to work on the fabric day and night. They demanded the finest silks and gold threads, which they claimed were necessary for the creation of their masterpiece. The king, believing that he would soon have the most extraordinary suit in the world, provided them with everything they asked for.As the days passed, the swindlers continued to deceive the king, pretending to work on his suit while secretly selling the valuable materials they had been given. They keptpromising the king that the suit would be ready soon, but always found excuses to delay its completion. Finally, the day arrived when the swindlers announcedthat the suit was finished. The king, excited beyond measure, summoned his courtiers and prepared to view his new garment. The swindlers came before him, carrying nothing but empty hands. They began to praise the suit's beauty and asked the king to put it on.The king, unable to see anything in their hands, assumed that his own stupidity prevented him from seeing the marvelous fabric. He did not want to admit that he was unable to see anything, so he pretended to admire the suit and put it on. The courtiers, too afraid to contradict the king, also pretended to see the non-existent garment and praised its beauty. The king, dressed in his "new suit," walked through his kingdom, parading his supposed elegance before his subjects.Everyone in the kingdom, knowing that the king could not see the truth, played along and complimented his imaginary attire. It was not until a child, innocent and free from the fear of contradicting the king, pointed out that he was wearing nothing at all that the truth finally emerged. The king, embarrassed by his own vanity and the foolishness of his courtiers, realized that he had been deceived by the swindlers. From that day forward, the king learned to value honesty and integrity over appearances. He no longer cared for extravagant clothes and instead focused on being a wise andjust ruler to his people. And the swindlers, having been exposed as frauds, were banished from the kingdom, never tobe heard from again. In the end, the story of the emperor's new clothes serves as a reminder that appearances can be deceiving and that true wisdom lies in seeing beyond the surface. It is a lesson thathas been passed down through generations, reminding us all to be wary of those who seek to exploit our vanity and to always seek the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.。
Reflection on the King's New ClothesThe King's New Clothes is a classic fairy tale created by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. This story, with its profound meaning and vivid plot, evokes many thoughts after reading. This story has given me a deeper understanding of "truth" and "courage". In the story, the king and most of the ministers chose to remain silent and blindly follow because they were afraid of being ridiculed or appearing different. However, only the little boy, pure and innocent, bravely revealed the truth - the king was not dressed. This made me realize that truth is often not complicated, it is right in front of us, but often for various reasons, we choose to avoid or ignore it. At the same time, the courage of the little boy also tells us that when facing difficulties and challenges, we should remain brave and firm, not afraid of power, and not go with the flow. This story also reveals the weaknesses of human nature. The reason why kings and ministers choose silence and blind obedience is because they are afraid of being ridiculed and losing their position. This mentality is still prevalent in today's society. People often choose to remain silent or compromise because they are worried that their words and actions will be criticized or criticized by others. However, this mentality often leads us to lose the ability to think independently and become subservient to society. Therefore, we should learn to think independently, be brave enough to express our own opinions, and not be influenced by others. This story also reminds us to maintain a pure heart. The reason why the little boy can tell the truth is precisely because he has not yet been blinded by the dust of the world, and his soul is still pure and innocent. However, as we age and gain more experience, we often become more complex and worldly wise. Therefore, we should always maintain a pure heart, not disturbed by worldly disturbances, and maintain our true colors and original intentions.。

How Should Parents Treat Their Children?Chen WanyingWhat I learn from "King Lear" is that a parent should treat all his or her children equally and that a person can not enjoy something that has been given away, like power.King Lear always favours his third-born daughter Cordelia, therefore, apparently, the two elder daughters, Goneril and Regan, are unsatisfied with him. During the time that Lear has power, Goneril and Regan are willing to put up with him and even tell lies to satisfy him. It is a wise father to know his own child, but unfortunately Lear is not such a wise father. Then the two elder daughters begin treating him disrespectfully once Lear has lost his power and there is nothing they can get from him. Hard-hearted though the two daughters are, I won't speak for Lear's treating his daughters unequally.Meanwhile, one of the reasons why Lear comes into friction with Goneril and Regan is that the daughters are unwilling to pay for his soldiers. For the two daughters, the soldiers are not only unnecessary but also very expensive to keep. But for King Lear, the meaning of the soldiers lies in that he feels that he still has power. However, he doesn't have it anymore, and the difference between his imagination and the reality is so cruel that he grows mad.All in all, parents should have equal love for their children. And at the same time,we should either stop imagining enjoying what we no longer owe or simply not give away what we still desire to others.
Reflections on the Reading of "The True and False King"When I opened the book "The True and False King," I expected it to be a simple adventure story, but as I delved deeper into it, I was deeply captivated by a complex world of power, truth, and deception. The protagonist of the story, an ordinary person living a quiet life, is suddenly drawn into a dispute over the inheritance of the throne. In this dispute, two men claim to be the true king—one is a gentle and compassionate prince who cares deeply for his country and wishes to bring peace and prosperity to its people, while the other is a power-hungry usurper who desires the throne at all costs. The narrative style of this book is ingenious, as the author skillfully draws the reader into a world full of intrigue and struggle. In this world, everyone may have their own secrets, and every decision could change the fate of the entire country. I was captivated by the intricate plot woven by the author, feeling as if I had become a part of the story, experiencing adventures and challenges alongside the protagonist.Throughout my reading, I deeply felt the allure of power and the importance of truth. Power can drive people to madness and even lose their sanity, while truth is our only guide in this complex world. This book made me reflect on what a true leader truly is—is it those who only pursue power, or those who truly care for their country and people?Furthermore, this book also made me realize the horrors of deception. In the story, the usurper lied, cheated, and betrayed in order to seize the throne. His actions shocked and angered me, making me cherish sincerity and trust even more. After finishing this book, I was deeply inspired. I understand that in this complex and ever-changing world, we need to maintain a clear mind and firm beliefs to avoid being misled by power and deception. At the same time, we also need to learn to cherish the people and things around us, building beautiful relationships with sincerity and trust.
The Emperor's New Clothes is a classic fairy tale that has been passed down through generations, captivating audiences with its timeless message about the power of human nature and the importance of speaking up against deception. As I delve into this enchanting story, I am struck by the profound insights it offers, the timeless lessons it imparts, and the enduring relevance it holds in our modern world. At the heart of this tale lies the story of an emperor who is obsessed with his appearance and craves the admiration of his subjects. Eager to maintain his image of grandeur, he falls victim to the schemes of two cunning swindlers who promise to weave him the most magnificent set of clothes, clothes that are invisible to those who are unfit for their positions or are hopelessly stupid. Blinded by his vanity and desperate to appear wise and sophisticated, the emperor readily believes their lies and eagerly awaits the unveiling of his new attire. As the story unfolds, the swindlers continue to perpetuate the deception, convincing the emperor and his court that the non-existent garments are indeed the finest in the land. The emperor, fearful of being exposed as a fool, goes along with the charade, parading through the streets in his "new clothes" while his subjects, too afraid to speak the truth, feign admiration and awe.It is not until a young child, unencumbered by the societal pressures and expectations of the adults around him, boldly declares that the emperor is, in fact, wearing nothing at all, that the spell is broken. The crowd, once silent, erupts in laughter and murmurs, finally acknowledging the truth that had been staring them in the face all along. The power of this story lies in its ability to capture the complexities of human nature and the ways in which we can be manipulated by our own desires and insecurities. The emperor's vanity and the court's fear of speaking out against the deception are all too familiar, and the tale serves as a cautionary warning against the dangers of blindly following authority and succumbing to the pressure of conformity. Moreover, the story's enduring relevance is evident in its ability to transcend time and culture, resonating with audiences across the globe. The themes of truth, courage, and the importance of independent thinking are universal, and the tale continues to be retold and reinterpreted in various forms, from children's books topolitical satire. As I reflect on the deeper meanings of this classic tale, I am struck by the ways in which it can be applied to our own lives and the society in which we live. The emperor's obsession with his image and the court's unwillingness to challenge the deception are all too familiar, and the story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of speaking up and standing up for the truth, even in the face of overwhelming pressure to conform. In our modern world, where information is often manipulated and the truth is obscured by the noise of propaganda and misinformation, the message of The Emperor's New Clothes becomes all the more crucial. It reminds us of the importance of critical thinking, of questioning the narratives that are presented to us, and of having the courage to speak out against injustice and deception, no matter the consequences. As I conclude my reflection on this timeless tale, I am left with a renewed sense of appreciation for the power of storytelling and the enduring lessons it can impart. The Emperor's New Clothes is a masterful work of fiction that transcends its origins and speaks to the very core of the human experience, reminding us of the importance of truth, courage, and the unwavering pursuit of justice in the face of overwhelming odds.。

Reflection on King Lear英语142赵文静201402957Reflection on King LearAfter reading this book —King Lear, it seems that I have seen an impressing movie in which I hold my breath lest I miss one scene. No fierce fight, but the plot has haunted in my mind so far. With two main plots involved —one about King Lear and his three daughters, the other concerning Earl of Gloster and his two sons.King Lear wants to divide his realm among his three daughters, and offers the largest share to the one who loves him best. Goneril and Regan both proclaim in fulsome terms, which pleases him. For Cordelia, she speaks honestly but bluntly. Her tactless honesty enrages her father, who gives her nothing, dividing her portion between his other daughters. After the King Lear abdicated, Goneril and Regan forced him to leave his homeland. He became homeless. Cordelia knew the situation and leaded a group of troops to fight against her sisters. But unfortunately, she failed, and at last she was dead. In the end, the King Lear was in deep sorrow and died beside his little daughter. And the subplot, a story of the fortunes of Gloucester, another father suffering from filial ingratitude and from his false judgment of the characters of his children. The main plot and the subplot are interwoven with each other in the play.I would like to explain my thoughts in the following parts. Firstly, I will give priority to language. The play, King Lear, definitely proves the saying that language has its own power. What the characters say reflectstheir inner world, together with their standpoint, and thus present a vivid scene in my mind. From what the characters say, I am able to be furious as King Lear to be when he is abandoned by his two daughters. I can even experience the huge regret and anxiety when Gloucester knows that he is beguiled by his bastard son Edmund to kill his biological son Edgar. Moreover, different language, more accurately, different words represent distinct characters. Therefore, the various portrayals are authorized to have their own lives. They are tridimensional rather than rigid. So, I almost integrate myself into the play, I cry when they weep, I am gloomy when they are filled with sorrow. When Goneril asked King Lear to reduce his knights and banished him who gives her one third of his kingdom where she possessed, King Lear said desperately:“Suspend the purpose, if thou didstintend to make this creature fruitful!Into her womb convey sterility!Dry up in her the organs of increase,And from her derogate body never spring a baby to honor her!If she must teem, create her child of spleen,That it may live and be a thwart disnature’d torment to her!”Such words are full of antipathy, such a malicious curse that no living father shall say to his daughter. From his words the readers areinformed that the king’s heart breaks into pieces.Next, I would like to analyze some characters according to my understanding. There is no doubt that King Lear was a tragic figure. He convinced those wicked hearts under the cloak of sweet words. Therefore, he expelled his beloved daughter—Cordelia and his loyal eral—Kent. Maybe that was the beginning of the tragedy: evils laughed because they got what they dreamt of , however, the kinds were being calumniated. If he had realized what blunder he had made, such a tragedy would be avoided. But, until his two daughters refused to take care of him did he know that he was cheated. He was addicted in the exalting words instead of judging by fact and his own wisdom.Reflecting on King Leat. I remember a philosophical truth, that is: the essence is always hiding behind the phenomenon. Though King Lear’s tragedy, the significant perceptionI get is: Don’t bewitched by those attractive phenomena, judge everything by your own awareness, fairness and righteousness. Those who love you and support you never change their minds as time goes by. So , what you can’t judge or resolve immediately, just leave it to the time.Touched by Kent and Edgar, I can understand humanism which Shakespeare extolled in the period of the English renaissance. It was evident that Kent and Edgar were innocent, they were misunderstood and calumniated. Although they were in such agonizing situation, their loyaltyand love never changed. Kent disguised as a servant to accompany King Lear without complain and dissatisfaction. Edgar pretended to be insane in order to survive. When he came across his father Gloucester whose eyes were put out, he didn’t lose temper to blame him, instead, he comforted his father, supported him and helped him to survive. What he did ascribe to his enduring love to his father. On the one hand, Shakespeare criticizes foolishness and ignorance. On the other hand, he revels the kind and benevolent side of human beings. To some extent, Kent, Edgar and Cordelia stand for moral achievement which Shakespeare calls on in that society. Cordelia said: “O dear father! It is try business that I go about…No blown ambition doth our arms incite,But love, dear love, and our ag’d father’s right.”What she says is the value of humanism: respecting people and pursuing happiness. As Kent says, “to be acknowledg’s, is o’erpaid.”. to Kent, if his loyalty could be understood, that’s his comfort and happiness. Similarly, Cordelia’s happiness lies in loving her father forever. The theme of King Lear is not simply filialingratitude. The play depicts a great social upheaval. The miseries of Lear disclose the essence of a corrupt society; in which each is ready to destroy the other. No images are more frequently met with in the plat than the images ofanimals and beasts, the lion, the bear, the wolf, the fox, the dog, the monkey, the rat and the worm. This is a reflection of the juggle law of the age of primitive accumulation, symbolically presented with poignancy and power in the famous storm scene of the tragedy. Moreover, King Lear also presents Shakes peare’s affirmation of national unity and royal responsibility. The root of Lear’s tragedy lies in his irresponsibly dividing up his kingdom owing to mistaking his two daughters’ insincere flattery for genuine love. Here, Shakespeare seems to point out that the king, however great he might be, should be responsible to the people. If, in one way or another, he betrays the people’s trust, history will condemn him.Usually, people learn more from failure than success. Though the background of the play doesn’t apply to the modern world, the play is a sort of treasure waiting for people to read and take it into deep consideration. Like Francis bacon says, “history makes men wise.”. Besides experiencing by yourself, reading, reflecting together with summarizing provide you with unique and undistorted thoughts towards the world and people.
