Plagiarism is one of the most serious problems in schools and colleges. It has occurred as long as there have been teachers and students, but the recent growth of the Internet has made it much worse. Recent studies show the ways to avoid plagiarism.
* Put in quotations (引号) everything that comes directly from the text.
* Paraphrase (转述),but be sure you aren’t just rearranging or replacing a few words. Instead, read over what you’ll paraphrase carefully; close the text so that you can’t see any of it; and write out the idea quite in your own words. Then check your paraphrase to make sure you haven’t accidentally used the same expressions.
In US and UK universities, plagarism is considered as cheating or dishonesty with punishment from a zero for the homework to a failing grade for the subject, to a loss of all grades for that term or an expel (开除) from the university for at least two terms.
Several methods are taken in US universities to stop students’plagiarizing on line. Some colleges are experimenting with a program that can control the computer’s operating system during the test. Teachers also go to turnitin. com to catch cheaters. However, students need to be made clear of the reason why plagiarizing is wrong.
60. The word plagiarism means __________.
A. cheating in the exams
B. putting others’ words in quotations
C. rewriting others’ articles
D. stealing others’ ideas or words
61. Which of the following is not acceptable to avoid plagiarism?

62. In the US and UK universities, the most serious punishment for plagiarists is _________.
A. being expelled from the university for some time.
B. getting a failing grade for the subject
C. losing all the grades for that term
D. getting a zero for the homework

Certainly people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel as if you’ve known them half your life. These people have something in common. And once we know what it is, we can try to do it ourselves.
How is it done? Here are several skills (技巧) that good talkers have. If you follow the skills, they will help you put people at ease, and make friends with them quickly.
First of all, good talkers ask questions. Almost anyone, no matter how shy they are, will answer a question. One well-known businessman says. “At business lunches, I always ask people what they did this morning. It’s a common question, but it will get things going.” From there you can move on to other matters sometimes to really personal questions. And how they answer will let you know how far you can go.
Second, once good talkers have asked questions they listen for the answer. This point seems clear, but it isn’t. Your questions should have a point and help to tell what sort of person you are talking to. And to find out, you really have to listen carefully and attentively (专心地).
Real listening means certain things. First it means not to change the subject of conversation (对话). If someone sticks to (坚持) one topic (话题), you can take it as a fact that he’ll be really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones (语调) of voice. If the voice sounds dull, then, it’s time for you to change the subject.
Finally, good talkers know well how to deal with the occasion (场合) of parting. If you’re saying goodbye, you may give him a firm handshake and say, “I’ve really enjoyed meeting you.”If you want to see that person again, don’t keep it secret. Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they’ve known yopu half their life.
63. You’ll like to stay with certain people because _________.
A. they know how to get along with others
B. you can often get much help from them
C. they are always glad to do anything for you
D. they will never get you into trouble
64. Asking questions might be quite a good way _________.
A. for you to make more and more new friends
B. to begin your business talks
C. to get the conversation going well
D. for you to make a deep and lasting impression (印象) on others
65. After having asked somebody a question, it’ll be polite of you to __________.
A. make clear what kink of person he is
B. listen to his answer attentively
C. wait quietly and patiently for his answer
D. talk with others
66. Generally speaking, good talkers are persons who __________.
A. are good at making any topic interesting
B. never talk too much or too little
C. always speak in a gentle way
D. know how and when they should change the topic of the talk
(D)
There are stock markets in large cities in many countries. Stock markets in Paris, London, Tokyo, Shanghai and New York are among the largest and most well-known. The stock market, also called stock exchange, is a place where people can buy or sell shares of a factory or company. And each share means certain ownership of a factory or company.
Different people go to stock markets. Some are rich, who want to get more money than they have. Others are not very rich, who buy stocks to try to become rich. Still others as part of their plan to save money.
Of course, investing (投资) money in the stock market is not the safest way to make money. No one can tell exactly whether the share will be doing well. The factory or company may do badly. Then the stocks will go down, and the investors will lose money. The stock may go up or down for a number of untold reasons. Everyone wants the stock to go up, but sometimes even if a factory or company does a good job, the stock may still go down.
No wonder going to the stock market is often compared to gambling (打赌). All are eager to make money by “gambling” in the stock market. Factories and companies that need money are planned that so many people are willing to “gamble”. Instead, the stock market is an attractive and complex part of the business world.
67. _________ can always make money in the stock mardet.
A. The owner of a factory or company
B. A rich investor
C. Not every investor
D. An experienced investor
68. The passage mainly tells us __________.
A. how to buy or sell stock
B. ABC of the stock market
C. the stock market is like gambling
D. stock isn’t always safe
69. All the following are mentioned in the passage except __________.
A. all investors want to make money
B. the stock usually goes up or down with the development of the factory or company
C. buying stocks is less safe than keeping money in the bank
D. the richer, the more money he will make

The introduction of computerized information systems has greatly affected management control in many companies. Even a neighborhood shopkeeper may now use computers to control
sales, billing, and other activities. In large companies, electronic data processing systems monitor entire projects and sets of operations.
Before the widespread use of computers, manager could not make full use of a large amount of valuable information about a company’s activities. The information either reached managers too late or was too late to be used. Today, managers are facing plenty of data processing and information instruments. In place of a few financial controls, managers can depend on computer based information systems to control activities in every area of their company. On any kinds of performance measures, the information provided by these systems helps managers compare standards with actual results, find out problems, and take corrective action before it is too late to make changes.
Now, there are about 220 million microcomputers in use in the United States-9 for every 10 citizens. It is estimated that by 2016, 90 percent of American managers will be using some sort of electronic work station. In order for managers to be sure that the computer-based information they are receiving is accurate, they need to understand how computers work. Although in most cases they do not need to learn how to program computers, managers should understand clearly how computerized information systems work; how they are developed; their limitations and costs; and the manner in which information systems may be used. Such an understanding is not difficult to achieve.
One research has found that business firms are more successful in teaching basic information about computers to business graduates that they are in teaching business subjects to computer science graduates.
