Answer the questions below each text by choosing A, B, C or D. Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET 1. (40 points)Text 1In the 2006 film version of The Devil Wears Prada ,Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, scolds her unattractive assistant for imagining that high fashion doesn’t affect her, Priestly explains how the deep blue color of the assistant’s sweater descended over the years from fashion shows to departments stores and to the bargain bin in which the poor girl doubtless found her garment. This top-down conception of the fashion business couldn’t be more out of date or at odds with the feverish would described in Overdressed, Eliazabeth Cline’s three-year indictment of “fast fashion”. In the last decade or so ,advances in technology have allowed mass-market labels such as Zara ,H&M, and Uniqlo to react to trends more quickly and anticipate demand more precisely. Quicker turnarounds mean less wasted inventory, more frequent release, and more profit. These labels encourage style-conscious consumers to see clothes as disposable-meant to last only a wash or two, although they don’t advertise that –and to renew their wardrobe every few weeks. By offering on-trend items at dirt-cheap prices, Cline argues, these brands have hijacked fashion cycles, shaking an industry long accustomed to a seasonal pace. The victims of this revolution , of course ,are not limited to designers. For H&M to offer a $5.95 knit miniskirt in all its 2,300-pius stores around the world, it must rely on low-wage overseas labor, order in volumes that strain natural resources, and use massive amounts of harmful chemicals.Overdressed is the fashion world’s answer to consumer-activist bestsellers like Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma. “Mass-produced clothing ,like fast food, fills a hunger and need, yet is non-durable and wasteful,” Cline argues. Americans, she finds, buy roughly 20 billion garments a year – about 64 items per person – and no matter how much they give away, this excess leads to waste.Towards the end of Overdressed, Cline introduced her ideal, a Brooklyn woman named Sarah Kate Beaumont, who since 2008 has made all of her own clothes – and beautifully. But as Cline is the first to note, it took Beaumont decades to perfect her craft; her example can’t be knocked off.Though several fast-fashion companies have made efforts to curb their impact on labor and the environment – including H&M, with its green Conscious Collection line –Cline believes lasting change can only be effected by the customer. She exhibits the idealism common to many advocates of sustainability, be it in food or in energy. Vanity is a constant; people will only start shopping more sustainably when they can’t afford not to.21. Priestly criticizes her assistant for her(B)[A] poor bargaining skill.[B] insensitivity to fashion.[C] obsession with high fashion.[D] lack of imagination.22. According to Cline, mass-maket labels urge consumers to(A)[A] combat unnecessary waste.[B] shut out the feverish fashion world.[C] resist the influence of advertisements.[D] shop for their garments more frequently.23. The word “indictment” (Line 3, Para.2) is closest in meaning to(A)[A] accusation.[B] enthusiasm.[C] indifference.[D] tolerance.24. Which of the following can be inferred from the lase paragraph? (D)[A] Vanity has more often been found in idealists.[B] The fast-fashion industry ignores sustainability.[C] People are more interested in unaffordable garments.[D] Pricing is vital to environment-friendly purchasing.25. What is the subject of the text? (C)[A] Satire on an extravagant lifestyle.[B] Challenge to a high-fashion myth.[C] Criticism of the fast-fashion industry.[D] Exposure of a mass-market secret.Text 2An old saying has it that half of all advertising budgets are wasted-the trouble is, no one knows which half . In the internet age, at least in theory ,this fraction can be much reduced . By watching what people search for, click on and say online, companies can aim “behavioural” ads at those most likely to buy.In the past couple of weeks a quarrel has illustrated the value to advertisers of such fine-grained information: Should advertisers assume that people are happy to be tracked and sent behavioural ads? Or should they have explicit permission? In December 2010 America's Federal Trade Cornmission (FTC) proposed adding a "do not track "(DNT) option to internet browsers ,so that users could tell adwertisers that they did not want to be followed .Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Apple's Safari both offer DNT ;Google's Chrome is due to do so this year. In February the FTC and Digltal Adwertising Alliance (DAA) agreed that the industry would get cracking on responging to DNT requests. On May 31st Microsoft Set off the row: It said that Internet Explorer 10,the version due to appear windows 8, would have DNT as a default. It is not yet clear how advertisers will respond. Geting a DNT signal does not oblige anyone to stop tracking, although some companies have promised to do so. Unable to tell whether someone really objects to behavioural ads or whether they are sticking with Microsoft’s default, some may ignore a DNT signal and press on anyway. Also unclear is why Microsoft has gone it alone. Atter all, it has an ad business too, which it says will comply with DNT requests, though it is still working out how. If it is trying to upset Google, which relies almost wholly on default will become the norm. DNT does not seem an obviously huge selling point for windows 8-though the firm has compared some of its other products favourably with Google's on that count before. Brendon Lynch, MMicrosoft's chief privacy officer, bloggde:"we believe consumers should have more control." Could it really be that simple?26. It is suggested in paragraph 1 that “behavioural” ads help advertisers to(B)[A] ease competition among themselves[B] lower their operational costs[C] avoid complaints from consumers[D] provide better online services27. “The industry” (Line 6,Para.3) refers to: (D)[A] online advertisers[B] e-commerce conductors[C] digital information analysis[D] internet browser developers28. Bob Liodice holds that setting DNT as a default(C)[A] many cut the number of junk ads[B] fails to affect the ad industry[C] will not benefit consumers[D] goes against human nature29. which of the following is ture according to Paragraph.6? (A)[A] DNT may not serve its intended purpose[B] Advertisers are willing to implement DNT[C] DNT is losing its popularity among consumers[D] Advertisers are obliged to offer behavioural ads30. The author's attitude towards what Brendon Lynch said in his blog is one of: (D)[A] indulgence[B] understanding[C] appreciaction[D] skepticismText 3Up until a few decades ago, our visions of the future were largely - though by no means uniformly - glowingly positive. Science and technology would cure all the ills of humanity, leading to lives of fulfillment and opportunity for all.Now utopia has grown unfashionable, as we have gained a deeper appreciation of the range of threats facing us, from asteroid strike to epidemic flu and to climate change. You might even be tempted to assume that humanity has little future to look forward to.But such gloominess is misplaced. The fossil record shows that many species have endured for millions of years - so why shouldn't we? Take a broader look at our species' place in the universe, and it becomes clear that we have an excellent chance of surviving for tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of years . Look up Homo sapiens in the "Red List" of threatened species of the International Union for the Conversation of Nature (IUCN) ,and you will read: "Listed as Least Concern as the species is very widely distributed, adaptable, currently increasing, and there are no major threats resulting in an overall population decline."So what does our deep future hold? A growing number of researchers and organisations are now thinking seriously about that question. For example, the Long Now Foundation has its flagship project a medical clock that is designed to still be marking time thousands of years hence .Perhaps willfully , it may be easier to think about such lengthy timescales than about the more immediate future. The potential evolution of today's technology, and its social consequences, is dazzlingly complicated, and it's perhaps best left to science fiction writers and futurologists to explore the many possibilities we can envisage. That's one reason why we have launched Arc, a new publication dedicated to the near future. But take a longer view and there is a surprising amount that we can say with considerable assurance. As so often, the past holds the key to the future: we have now identified enough of the long-term patterns shaping the history of the planet, and our species, to make evidence-based forecasts about the situations in which our descendants will find themselves. This long perspective makes the pessimistic view of our prospects seem more likely to be a passing fad. To be sure, the future is not all rosy. But we are now knowledgeable enough to reduce many of the risks that threatened the existence of earlier humans, and to improve the lot of those to come.31. Our vision of the future used to be inspired by(B)[A] our desire for lives of fulfillment[B] our faith in science and technology[C] our awareness of potential risks[D] our belief in equal opportunity32. The IUCN’s “Red List” suggest that human being are(A)[A] a sustained species[B] a threaten to the environment[C] the world’s dominant power[D] a misplaced race33. Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 5? (D)[A] Arc helps limit the scope of futurological studies.[B] Technology offers solutions to social problem.[C] The interest in science fiction is on the rise.[D] Our Immediate future is hard to conceive.34. To ensure the future of mankind, it is crucial to(C)[A] explore our planet’s abundant resources[B] adopt an optimistic view of the world[C] draw on our experience from the past[D] curb our ambition to reshape history35. Which of the following would be the best title for the text? (C)[A] Uncertainty about Our Future[B] Evolution of the Human Species[C] The Ever-bright Prospects of Mankind[D] Science, Technology and HumanityText 4On a five to three vote, the Supreme Court knocked out much of Arizona's immigration law Monday-a modest policy victory for the Obama Aministration. But on the more important matter of the Constitution, the decision was an 8-0 defeat for the federal government and the states. An arizona.United States, the majority overturned three of the four contested provisions of Arizona's controversial plan to have state and local police enfour federal immigrations law.The Constitutional principles that Washington alone has the power to "establish a uniform Rule of Anturalization" and that federal laws precede state laws are noncontroversial.Arizona had attempted to fashion state police that ran to the existing federal ones.Justice Anthony Kennedy, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and the Court's liberals, ruled that the state flew too close to the federal sun .On the overturned provisions the majority held the congress had deliberately "occupied the field " and Arizona had thus intruded on the federal's privileged powersHowever, the Justices said that Arizona police would be allowed to verify the legal status of people who come in contact with law enforcement. That’s because Congress has always envisioned joint federal-state immigration enforcement and explicitly encourages state officers to share information and cooperate with federal colleagues. Two of the three objecting Justice-Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas-agreed with this Constitutional logic but disagreed about which Arizona rules conflicted with the federal statute. The only major objection came from Justice Antonin Scalia, who offered an even more robust defense of state privileges going back to the alien and Sedition Acts. The 8-0 objection to President Obama tures on what Justice Samuel Alito describes in his objection as “a shocking assertion assertion of federal executive power”. The White House argued tha Arizona’s laws conflicted with its enforcement priorities, even if state laws complied with federal statutes to the letter. In effect, the White House claimed that it could invalidate any otherwise legitimate state law that it disagrees with. Some powers do belong exclusively to the federal government, and control of citizenship and the borders is among them. But if Congress wanted to prevent states from using their own resources to check immigration status,it could. It could. It never did so.The administration was in essence asserting that because it didn't want to carry out Congress's immigration wishes,no state should be allowed to do so either.Every Justice rightly rejected this remarkable claim.36. Three provisions of Arizona’s plan were overturned because they(C)[A] deprived the federal police of Constitutional powers.[B] disturbed the power balance between different states.[C] overstepped the authority of federal immigration law.[D] contradicted both the federal and state policies.37. On which of the following did the Justices agree, according to Paragraph4? (C)[A] Federal officers’ duty to withhold immigrants’information.[B] States’ independence from federal immigration law.[C] States’ legitimate role in immigration enforcement.[D] Congress’s intervention in immigration enforcement.38. It can be inferred from Paragraph 5 that the Alien and Sedition Acts(D)[A] violated the Constitution.[B] undermined the states’ interests.[C] supported the federal statute.[D] stood in favor of the states.39. The White House claims that its power of enforcement(A)[A] outweighs that held by the states.[B] is dependent on the states’ support.[C] is established by federal statutes.[D] rarely goes against state laws.40. What can be learned from the last paragraph? (B)[A] Immigration issues are usually decided by Congress.[B] Justices intended to check the power of the Administrstion.[C] Justices wanted to strengthen its coordination with Congress.[D] The Administration is dominant over immigration issues.Part BDirections:In the following text, some sentences have been removed. For Questions 41-45, choose the most suitable one from the list A-G to fit into each of the numbered blanks. There are two extra choices, which do not fit in any of the blanks. Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET1.(10 points)The social sciences are flourishing. As of 2005,there were almost half a million professional social scientists from all fields in the world, working both inside and outside academia. According to the World Social Science Report 2010,the number of social-science students worldwide has swollen by about 11% every year since 2000.Yet this enormous resource in not contributing enough to today’s global challenges including climate change, security, sustainable development and health.(41)______Humanity has the necessary agro-technological tools to eradicate hunger , from genetically engineered crops to arificial fertilizers . Here , too, the problems are social: the organization and distribution of food, wealth and prosperity.(42)____This is a shame—the community should be grasping the opportunity to raise its influence in the real world. To paraphrase the great social scientist Joseph Schumpeter:there is no radical innovation without creative destruction .Today ,the social sciences are largely focused on disciplinary problems and internal scholarly debates, rather than on topics with external impact.Analyses reveal that the number of papers including the keywords “environmental changed” or “climate change” have increased rapidly since 2004,(43)____When social scientists do tackle practical issues ,their scope is often local:Belgium is interested mainly in the effects of poverty on Belgium for example .And whether the community’s work contributes much to an overall accumulation of knowledge is doubtful. The problem is not necessarily the amount of available funding (44)____this is an adequate amount so long as it is aimed in the right direction. Social scientists who complain about a lack of funding should not expect more in today’s economic climate. The trick is to direct these funds better. The European Union Framework funding programs have long had a category specifically targeted at social scientists.Thisyear,it was proposed that system be changed:Horizon 2020,a new program to be enacted in 2014,would not have such a category ,This has resulted in protests from social scientists. But the intention is not to neglect social science ; rather ,the complete opposite.(45)____That should create more collaborative endeavors and help to develop projects aimed directly at solving global problems.[A] It could be that we are evolving two communities of socialscientists:one that is discipline-oriented and publishing in highlyspecialized journals, and one that is problem-oriented and publishingelsewhere, such as policy briefs.[B] However, the numbers are still small:in 2010,about 1,600 of the100,000 social-sciences papers published globally included one of theseKeywords.[C] the idea is to force social to integrate their work with other categories, including health and demographic change food security, marine research and the bio-economy, clear, efficient energy; and inclusive, innovative and secure societies.[D] the solution is to change the mindset of the academic community, and what it considers to be its main goal. Global challenges and social innovation ought to receive much more attention from scientists, especially the young ones.[E] These issues all have root causes in human behavior . all require behavioral change and social innovations , as well as technological development . Stemming climate change , for example , is as much about changing consumption patterns and promoting tax acceptance as it is about developing clean energy.[F] Despite these factors , many social scientists seem reluctant to tackle such problems . And in Europe , some are up in arms over a proposal to drop a specific funding category for social-science research and to integrate it withincross-cutting topics of sustainable development .[G] During the late 1990s , national spending on social sciences and the humanities as a percentage of all research and development funds-including government, higher education, non-profit and corporate -varied from around 4% to 25%; in most European nations , it is about 15%.41.[E] These issues all have root causes in human behavior .all require behavioral change and social innovations , as well as technological development .Stemming climate change , for example , is as much about changing consumption patterns and promoting tax acceptance as it is about developing clean energy.42.[F] Despite these factors , many social scientists seem reluctant to tackle such problems . Your translation should be written clearly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (10 points)It is speculated that gardens arise from a basic need in the individuals who made them: the need for creative expression. There is no doubt that gardens evidence an impossible urge to create, express, fashion, and beautify and thatself-expression is a basic human urge; (46) Yet when one looks at the photographs of the garden created by the homeless, it strikes one that , for all their diversity of styles, these gardens speak os various other fundamental urges, beyond that of decoration and creative expression. One of these urges had to do with creating a state of peace in the midst of turbulence, a “still point of the turning world,” to borrow a phrase from T. S. Eliot. (47)A sacred place of peace, however crude it may be, is a distinctly human need, as opposed to shelter, which is a distinctly animal need. This distinction is so much so that where the latter is lacking, as it is for these unlikely gardens, the foemer becomes all the more urgent. Composure is a state of mind made possible by the structuring of one’s relation to one’s environment. (48) The gardens of the homeless which are in effect homeless gardens introduce from into an urban environment where it either didn’t exist or was not discernible as such. In so doingthey give composure to a segment of the inarticulate environment in which they take their stand.Another urge or need that these gardens appear to respond to, or to arise from is so intrinsic that we are barely ever conscious of its abiding claims on us. When we are deprived of green, of plants, of trees, (49)most of us give into a demoralization of spirit which we usually blame on some psychological conditions, until one day we find ourselves in garden and feel the expression vanish as if by magic. In most of the homeless gardens of New York City the actual cultivation of plants is unfeasible, yet even so the compositions often seem to represent attempts to call arrangement of materials, an institution of colors, small pool of water, and a frequent presence of petals or leaves as well as of stuffed animals. On display here are various fantasy elements whose reference, at some basic level, seems to be the natural world. (50)It is this implicit or explicit reference to nature that fully justifies the use of word garden though in a “liberated” sense, to describe these synthetic constructions. In them we can see biophilia- a yearning for contact with nonhuman life-assuming uncanny representational forms.46. yet when one looks at the photographs of the gardens created by the homeless, it strikes one that, for all their diversity of styles, these gardens speak of various other fundamental urges beyond that of decoration and creative expression.然而,令人震惊的是,当人们看到又无家可归者建造的花园照片时,由于风格的多样性,所有这些花园显示了超越了装饰与创造性表现的其它各种各样的基本诉求.47. When he was in sixth grade, he received a toy microscope for Christmas. Some of the first things he saw through its lens were tiny creatures inside droplets he’d gathered from a local pond. He was fascinated with the microorganisms. After eighth grade, Berdan upgraded to a more advanced model and realized it was a gateway to another world. “The new microscope changed my life,” he says. “I could see so much more.” He began studying photography and buying cameras to fit on his microscope. He captured images of mushrooms, and trees, and learned how to develop films. He also developed his microscopy skills, so much so that he earned a doctoral degree in cellular biology and spent five years running a lab at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. But Berdan never forgot his two early passions—being involved in nature and photographing its tiny details—and he decided to return to them. His subjects range from snowflakes to spruce trees. To see the latter under a microscope, Berdan collects a small branch and uses specialized tools to shave off paper-thin slices, which he dyes red or blue. For the final images, he often uses a process called focus stacking, in which similar photos with different focal planes are combined to achieve a more profound depth of field, and he sometimes stitches photos together to create panoramas, an impressive view of a wide area.“I investigate anything that might have possibilities,” he says. And he encourages others to do the same with a microscope. “Any tool that amplifies(放大)our ability to see will enhance our creativity,” he notes. “Our observations can potentially lead to new discoveries and solutions.”24. How did Berdan find his first experience of using microscope?A. Upsetting.B. Amusing.C. Engaging.D. Shocking.25. What can we learn about Berdan from paragraph 3?A. Berdan creates special images without any effort.B. Berdan achieves great success in biology.C. Berdan has his unique way to use microscope.D. Berden has always been keen on his childhood interests.26. What does Berdan want to highlight in the last paragraph?A. The strong power of creativity in our daily life.B. Our creativity to be enhanced by large tools.C. The important role that observations play in our life.D. Everything is possible through careful investigations.27. Which of the following best describes Robert Berdan?A. Creative but stubborn.B. Ambitious but careless.C. Skillful and considerate.D. Persistent and encouraging.CThe rainforests are alive with the sound of animals. Besides the pleasure of the noise, it is also useful to ecologists. If you want to measure the biodiversity of a piece of land, listening out for animal calls is much easier than searching in the undergrowth for tracks. But such “bioacoustic(生物声音的)analysis” is still time-consuming, and it requires an expert pair of ears.In a paper published on October 17th, a group of researchers led by Jorg Müller, an ecologist at the University of Würzburg, describe a better way: have a computer do the job. Smartphone apps already exist that will identify birds, bats or mammals simply by listening to the sounds they make. Their idea was to apply the principle to conservation work. The researchers took recordings from across 43 sites in the Ecuadorean rainforest. Some sites were relatively clean, old-growth forest. Others were areas that had recently been cleared for pasture or cacao planting. And some had been cleared but then abandoned, allowing the forest to regrow.Sound recordings were taken four times every hour, over two weeks. The various calls were identified manually by an expert, and then used to construct a list of the species present. As expected, the longer the land had been free from agricultural activity, the greater the bio-diversity it hosted. Then it was the computer’s turn. The researchers fed their recordings to artificial intelligence models that had been trained, using sound samples from elsewhere in Ecuador, to identify 75 bird species from their calls. “We found that the AI tools could identify the sounds as well as the experts,” says Dr Müller.Of course, not everything in a rain-forest makes a noise. Dr Müller and his colleagues used light-traps to capture night-flying insects, and DNA analysis to identify them. Reassuringly, they found that the diversity of noisy animals was a reliable indicator of the diversity of quieter ones, suggesting that this method could be used to monitor the effectiveness of reforestation projects. The study, published in Nature Communications, could have implications beyond ecology. Companies such as L’Oreal and Shell have been investing in forest restoration projects worldwide. Dr Müller suggests that this automated approach could provide a standardized way to monitor these efforts and verify whether they are as successful as claimed.28. What information does paragraph 1 provide about “bioacoustic analysis”?A. It requires special skill and time.B. It can only be performed on land.C. It assesses biodiversity easily.D. It makes animal calls attractive.29. What does “the job” underlined in paragraph 2refer to?A. Describing how the research was conducted.B. Protecting the birds and mammals from danger.C. Measuring the biodiversity of a piece of land.D. Monitoring how the smartphone works.30. What can be inferred from paragraphs 4 and 5?A. Biodiversity can be enhanced by minimizing agricultural activities.B. Both light-traps and sound recordings can be used to identify noisy animals.C. The larger number of noisy animals, the smaller number of quieter ones.D. Al tools could potentially be used to monitor agriculture development.31. What can be a suitable title for the text?A. Protect a Forest’s Inhabitats by ListeningB. Indentify the Calls of the Wild with AI AidC. Promote Rainforest Biodiversity Through AID. Find a Way to Monitor Deforestation SituationD“Tooth loss and gum disease, which is inflammation(发炎)of the tissue around the teeth that can cause shrinkage(萎缩)of the gums and loosening of the teeth, are very common, so evaluating a potential link with brain diseases is incredibly important. Our study found that these conditions may play a role in the health of the brain area that controls thinking and memory, giving people another reason to take better care of their teeth,” said study author Satoshi Yamaguchi, Ph. D. of Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. The study involved 172 people with an average age of 67 who did not have memory problems at the beginning of the study. Researchers found that the number of teeth and amount of gum disease was linked to changes in the left hippocampus of the brain. For people with mild gum disease, having fewer teeth was associated with a faster rate of brain shrinkage, which was the same for people with severe gum disease having more teeth. After adjusting for age, researchers found that for people with mild gum disease, the increase in the rate of brain shrinkage due to one less tooth was equal to nearly one year of brain aging. By contrast, for people with severe gum disease, the increase in brain shrinkage due to one more tooth was equal to 1.3 years of brain aging.“These results highlight the importance of preserving the health of the teeth and not just maintaining the teeth,” Yamaguchi said. Though the study does not prove that gum disease or tooth loss causes diseases like Alzheimer’s, it only shows an association. Yamaguchi added, “Future studies are needed with larger groups of people.” The current experiment involved only a small group of people in one region of Japan, and that too from one particular region of the world.32. What does Satoshi Yamaguchi’s research focus on?A. The reason for gum disease.B. The influence of brain shrinkage.C. The advances in memory improvement.D. The link between dental health and brain.33. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?A. Supporting evidence for the research results.B. Basic theories and results of a previous research.C. A further explanation of the research methods.D. The detailed procedures of the scientific research.34. What does Yamaguchi suggest people do?A. Treat a brain problem with replacing teeth.B. Frequently visit the dentists to maintain teeth.C. Protect gums and teeth in their original good state.D. Pull out one of their unique teeth as a study object.35. What probably can be involved in the follow-up study?A. The application in related fields.B. The further research in wider range.C. The difficulties of making the previous studies.D. The suggestions for preventing teeth disease.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

Answer the questions below each text by choosing [A], [B], [C] or[D]. Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET 1. (40 points)Text 1In the 2006 film version of The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, scolds herunattractive assistant for imagining that high fashion doesn’t affect her. Priestly explains how the deep bluecolor of the assistant’s sweater descended over the years from fashion shows t o department stores and to thebargain bin in which the poor girl doubtless found her garment. This top-down conception of the fashion business couldn’t be more out of date or at odds with the feverishworld described in Overdressed, Elizabeth Cline’s thre e-year indictment of “fast fashion.” In the last decade orso, advances in technology have allowed mass-market labels such as Zara, H&M, and Uniqlo to react to trendsmore quickly and anticipate demand more precisely. Quicker turnarounds mean less wasted inventory, morefrequent releases, and more profit. These labels encourage style-conscious consumers to see clothes asdisposable—meant to last only a wash or two, although they don’t advertise that—and to renew their wardrobeevery few weeks. By offering on-trend items at dirt-cheap prices, Cline argues, these brands have hijackedfashion cycles, shaking an industry long accustomed to a seasonal pace. The victims of this revolution, of course, are not limited to designers. For H&M to offer a $5.95 knitminiskirt in all its 2,300-plus stores around the world, it must rely on low-wage overseas labor, order in volumesthat strain natural resources, and use massive amounts of harmful chemicals.Overdressed is the fashion world’s answer t o consumer-activist bestsellers like Michael Pollan’s TheOmnivore’s Dilemma. “Mass-produced clothing, like fast food, fills a hunger and need, yet is non-durable, andwasteful,” Cline argues. Americans, she finds, buy roughly 20 billion garments a year—about 64 items perperson—and no matter how much they give away, this excess leads to waste.Towards the end of Overdressed, Cline introduced her ideal, a Brooklyn woman named Sarah Kate Beaumont, who since 2008 has made all of her own clothes—and beautifully. But as Cline is the first to note, it tookBeaumont decades to perfect her craft; her example can’t be knocked off.62Though several fast-fashion companies have made efforts to curb their impact on labor and the environment—including H&M, with its green Conscious Collection line—Cline believes lasting change canonly be effected by the customer. She exhibits the idealism common to many advocates of sustainability, be it infood or in energy. Vanity is a constant; people will only start shopping more sustainably when they can’t affordnot to.21. Priestly criticizes her assistant for her[A] poor bargaining skill.[B] insensitivity to fashion.[C] obsession with high fashion.[D] lack of imagination.22. According to Cline, mass-market labels urge consumers to[A] combat unnecessary waste.[B] shut out the feverish fashion world.[C] resist the influence of advertisements.[D] shop for their garments more frequently.23. The word “indictment” (Line 2, Para.2) is closest in meaning to[A] accusation.[B] enthusiasm.[C] indifference.[D] tolerance.24. Which of the following can be inferred from the last paragraph?[A] Vanity has more often been found in idealists.[B] The fast-fashion industry ignores sustainability.[C] People are more interested in unaffordable garments.[D] Pricing is vital to environment-friendly purchasing.25. What is the subject of the text?[A] Satire on an extravagant lifestyle.[B] Challenge to a high-fashion myth.[C] Criticism of the fast-fashion industry.[D] Exposure of a mass-market secret.Text 2An old saying has it that half of all advertising budgets are wasted—the trouble is, no one knows whichhalf. In the internet age, at least in theory, this fraction can be much reduced. By watching what people searchfor, click on a nd say online, companies can aim “behavioural” ads at those most likely to buy.In the past couple of weeks a quarrel has illustrated the value to advertisers of such fine-grained information: Should advertisers assume that people are happy to be tracked and sent behavioural ads? Or shouldthey have explicit permission? In December 2010 America’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC) proposed adding a “do not track” (DNT)option to internet browsers, so that users could tell advertisers that they did not want to be followed. Microsoft’sInternet Explorer and Apple’s Safari both offer DNT; Google’s Chrome is due to do so this year. In February theFTC and the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) agreed that the industry would get cracking on responding toDNT requests. On May 31st Microsoft set off the row. It said that Internet Explorer 10, the version due to appear withWindows 8, would have DNT as a default.Advertisers are horrified. Human nature being what it is, most people stick with default settings. Fewswitch DNT on now, but if tracking is off it will stay off. Bob Liodice, the chief executive of the Association ofNational Advertisers, says consumers will be worse off if the industry cannot collect information about theirpreferences. People will not get fewer ads, he says. “They’ll get less meaningful, less targeted ads.”It is not yet clear how advertisers will respond. Getting a DNT signal does not oblige anyone to stop63tracking, although some companies have promised to do so. Unable to tell whether someone really objects tobehavioural ads or whether they are sticking with Microsoft’s default, some may ignore a DNT signal and presson anyway. Also unclear is why Microsoft has gone it alone. After all, it has an ad business too, which it says willcomply with DNT requests, though it is still working out how. If it is trying to upset Google, which relies almostwholly on advertising, it has chosen an indirect method: There is no guarantee that DNT by default will becomethe norm. DNT does not seem an obviously huge selling point for Windows 8—though the firm has comparedsome of its other products favourably with Google’s on that count before. Brendon Lynch,Microsoft’s chiefprivacy officer, blogged: “We believe consumers should have more control.” Could it really be that simple?26. It is suggested in Paragraph 1 that “behavioural” ads help advertisers to[A] ease competition among themselves.[B] lower their operational costs.[C] avoid complaints from consumers.[D] provide better online services.27. “The industry” (Line 5, Para.3) refers to[A] online advertisers.[B] e-commerce conductors.[C] digital information analysts.[D] internet browser developers.28. Bob Liodice holds that setting DNT as a default[A] may cut the number of junk ads.[B] fails to affect the ad industry.[C] will not benefit consumers.[D] goes against human nature.29. Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 6?[A] DNT may not serve its intended purpose.[B] Advertisers are willing to implement DNT.[C] DNT is losing its popularity among consumers.[D] Advertisers are obliged to offer behavioural ads.30. The author’s attitude towards what Brendon Lynch said in his blog is one of[A] indulgence.[B] understanding.[C] appreciation.[D] skepticism.Text 3Up until a few decades ago, our visions of the future were largely—though by no means uniformly—glowinglypositive. Science and technology would cure all the ills of humanity, leading to lives of fulfilment andopportunity for all.Now utopia has grown unfashionable, as we have gained a deeper appreciation of the range of threats facing us,from asteroid strike to epidemic flu and to climate change. You might even be tempted to assume that humanityhas little future to look forward to.But such gloominess is misplaced. The fossil record shows that many species have endured for millions of years—so why shouldn’t we? Take a broader look at our species’ place in the universe, and it becomes clear that wehave an excellent chance of surviving for tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of years. Look up Homo sapiens inthe “Red List” of threatened species of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and youwill read: “Listed as Least Concern as the species is very widely distributed, adaptable, currently increasing, and there are no major threats resulting in an overall population decline.”So what does our deep future hold? A growing number of researchers and organizations are now thinkingseriously about that question. For example, the Long Now Foundation has as its flagship project a mechanical64clock that is designed to still be marking time thousands of years hence.Perhaps willfully, it may be easier to think about such lengthy timescales than about the more immediate future. The potential evolution of today’s technology, and its social consequences, is dazzlingly complicated, and it’sperhaps best left to science fiction writers and futurologists to explore the many possibilities we can envisage. That’s one reason why we have launched Arc, a new publication dedicated to the near future. But take a longer view and there is a surprising amount that we can say with considerable assurance. As so often, the past holds the key to the future: we have now identified enough of the long-term patterns shaping the historyof the planet, and our species, to make evidence-based forecasts about the situations in which our descendantswill find themselves. This long perspective makes the pessimistic view of our prospects seem more likely to be a passing fad. To besure, the future is not all rosy. But we are now knowledgeable enough to reduce many of the risks thatthreatened the existence of earlier humans, and to improve the lot of those to come.31. Our vision of the future used to be inspired by[A] our desire for lives of fulfillment.[B] our faith in science and technology.[C] our awareness of potential risks.[D] our belief in equal opportunity.32. The IUCN’s “Red List” suggests that human beings are[A] a sustained species.[B] a threat to the environment.[C] the world’s dominant power.[D] a misplaced race.33. Which of the following is true according to Paragraph 5?[A] Arc helps limit the scope of futurological studies.[B] Technology offers solutions to social problems.[C] The interest in science fiction is on the rise.[D] Our immediate future is hard to conceive.34. To ensure the future of mankind, it is crucial to[A] explore our planet’s abundant resources.[B] adopt an optimistic view of the world.[C] draw on our experience from the past.[D] curb our ambition to reshape history.35. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?[A] Uncertainty about Our Future[B] Evolution of the Human Species[C] The Ever-bright Prospects of Mankind[D] Science, Technology and HumanityText 4On a five to three vote, the Supreme Court knocked out much of Arizona’s immigration law Monday—amodest policy victory for the Obama Administration. But on the more important matter of the Constitution, thedecision was an 8-0 defeat for the Administration’s effort to upset the balance of power between the federalgovernment and the states. In Arizona v. United States, the majority overturned three of the four contested provisions of Arizona’scontroversial plan to have state and local police enforce federal immigration law. The Constitutional principlesthat Washington alone has the power to “establish a uniform Rule of Naturalization” and that federal lawsprecede state laws are noncontroversial. Arizona had attempted to fashion state policies that ran parallel to theexisting federal ones.Justice Anthony Kennedy, joined by Chief Justice John Roberts and the Court’s liberals, ruled that the stateflew too close to the federal sun. On the overturned provisions the majority held the Congress had deliberately65“occupied the field” and Arizona had thus intruded on the federal’s privileged powers. However, the Justices said that Arizona police would be allowed to verify the legal status of people whocome in contact with law enforcement. That’s because Congress has always envisioned joint federal-stateimmigration enforcement and explicitly encourages state officers to share information and cooperate withfederal colleagues. Two of the three objecting Justices—Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas—agreed with this Constitutionallogic but disagreed about which Arizona rules conflicted with the federal statute. The only major objection camefrom Justice Antonin Scalia, who offered an even more robust defense of state privileges going back to theAlien and Sedition Acts. The 8-0 objection to President Obama turns on what Justice Samuel Alito describes in his objection as “ashocking assertion of federal executive power”. The White House argued that Arizona’s laws conflicted with itsenforcement priorities, even if state laws complied with federal statutes to the letter. In effect, the White Houseclaimed that it could invalidate any otherwise legitimate state law that it disagrees with. Some powers do belong exclusively to the federal government, and control of citizenship and the bordersis among them. But if Congress wanted to prevent states from using their own resources to check immigrationstatus, it could. It never did so. The Administration was in esse nce asserting that because it didn’t want to carryout Congress’s immigration wishes, no state should be allowed to do so either. Every Justicerightly rejected thisremarkable claim.36. Three provisions of Arizona’s plan were overturned because they[A] deprived the federal police of Constitutional powers.[B] disturbed the power balance between different states.[C] overstepped the authority of federal immigration law.[D] contradicted both the federal and state policies.37. On which of the following did the Justices agree, according to Paragraph 4?[A] Federal officers’ duty to withhold immigrants’ information.[B] States’ independence from federal immigration law.[C] States’ legitimate role in immigration enforcement.[D] Congress’s intervention in im migration enforcement.38. It can be inferred from Paragraph 5 that the Alien and Sedition Acts[A] violated the Constitution.[B] undermined the states’ interests.[C] supported the federal statute.[D] stood in favor of the states.39. The White House claims that its power of enforcement[A] outweighs that held by the states.[B] is dependent on the states’ support.[C] is established by federal statutes.[D] rarely goes against state laws.40. What can be learned from the last paragraph?[A] Immigration issues are usually decided by Congress.[B] Justices intended to check the power of the Administration.[C] Justices wanted to strengthen their coordination with Congress.[D] The Administration is dominant over immigration issues.Part BDirections: In the following text, some segments have been removed. For Questions 41—45, choose the mostsuitable one from the list A—G to fit into each of the numbered blanks. There are two extrachoices, which donot fit in any of the blanks. Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET 1. (10 points)The social sciences are flourishing. As of 2005, there were almost half a million professional social scientistsfrom all fields in the world, working both inside and outside academia. According to the World Social Science66Report 2010, the number of social-science students worldwide has swollen by about 11% every year since 2000.Yet this enormous resource is not contributing enough to today’s global challenges including climate change, security, sustainable development and health. (41) Humanity has the necessaryagro-technological tools to eradicate hunger, from genetically engineered crops to artificial fertilizers. Here, too,the problems are social: the organization and distribution of food, wealth and prosperity. (42) This is a shame—the community should be grasping the opportunity to raise itsinfluence in the real world. To paraphrase the great social scientist Joseph Schumpeter: there is no radicalinnovation without creative destruction.Today, the social sciences are largely focused on disciplinary problems and internal scholarly debates, ratherthan on topics with external impact.Analyses reveal that the number of papers including the keywords “environmental change” or “climate change”have increased rapidly since 2004. (43)When social scientists do tackle practical issues, their scope is often local: Belgium is interested mainly in theeffects of poverty on Belgium, for example. And whether the community’s work contributes much to an overallaccumulation of knowledge is doubtful. The problem is not necessarily the amount of available funding. (44) This is an adequate amount so long as it is aimed in the right direction. Social scientists who complain about a lack of fundingshould not expect more in today’s economic climate. The trick is to direct these funds better. The European Union Framework funding programs have long hada category specifically targeted at social scientists. This year, it was proposed that system be changed: Horizon2020, a new program to be enacted in 2014, would not have such a category. This has resulted in protests fromsocial scientists. But the intention is not to neglect social science; rather, the complete opposite.(45)That should create more collaborative endeavors and help to develop projects aimed directly at solving globalproblems.[A] It could be that we are evolving two communities of social scientists: one that is discipline-oriented andpublishing in highly specialized journals, and one that is problem-oriented and publishing elsewhere, such as inpolicy briefs.[B] However, the numbers are still small: in 2010, about 1,600 of the 100,000 social-sciences papers publishedglobally included one of these keywords.[C] The idea is to force social scientists to integrate their work with other categories, including health anddemographic change; food security; marine research and the bio-economy; clean, efficient energy; and inclusive, innovative and secure societies.[D] The solution is to change the mindset of the academic community, and what it considers tobe its main goal.Global challenges and social innovations ought to receive much more attention from scientists, especially theyoung ones.[E] These issues all have root causes in human behavior: all require behavioral change and social innovations,as well as technological development. Stemming climate change, for example, is as much about changingconsumption patterns and promoting tax acceptance as it is about developing clean energy. [F] Despite these factors, many social scientists seem reluctant to tackle such problems. And in Europe, someare up in arms over a proposal to drop a specific funding category for social-science research and to integrate itwithin cross-cutting topics of sustainable development.[G] During the late 1990s, national spending on social sciences and the humanities as a percentage of allresearch and development funds—including government, higher education, non-profit and corporate—variedfrom around 4% to 25%; in most European nations, it is about 15%.Part CDirections: Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments into Chinese. Yourtranslation should be written clearly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (10 points)It is speculated that gardens arise from a basic human need in the individuals who made them: the need for67creative expression. There is no doubt that gardens evidence an irrepressible urge to create, express, fashion, and beautify and that self-expression is a basic human urge,(46)yet when one looks at thephotographs of thegardens created by the homeless, it strikes one that, for all their diversity of styles, these gardens speak ofvarious other fundamental urges, beyond that of decoration and creative expression. One of these urges has to do with creating a state of p eace in the midst of turbulence, a “still point of theturning world,” to borrow a phrase from T. S. Eliot. (47)A sacred place of peace, however crude it may be, is adistinctly human need, as opposed to shelter, which is a distinctly animal need. This distinction is so much sothat where the latter is lacking, as it is for these unlikely gardeners, the former becomes all the more urgent.Composure is a state of mind made possible by the structuring of one’s relation to one’s environment. (48) Thegardens of the homeless, which are in effect homeless gardens, introduce form into an urban environment whereit either didn’t exist or was not discernible as such. In so doing they give composure to a segment of theinarticulate environment in which they take their stand.Another urge or need that these gardens appear to respond to, or to arise from, is so intrinsic that we arebarely ever conscious of its abiding claims on us. When we are deprived of green, of plants, of trees, (49)mostof us give in to a demoralization of spirit which we usually blame on some psychological conditions, until oneday we find ourselves in a garden and feel the oppression vanish as if by magic. In most of the homelessgardens of New York City the actual cultivation of plants is unfeasible, yet even so the compositions often seemto represent attempts to call forth the spirit of plant and animal life, if only symbolically, through a clumplikearrangement of materials, an introduction of colors, small pools of water, and a frequent presence of petals orleaves as well as of stuffed animals. On display here are various fantasy elements whose reference, at somebasic level, seems to be the natural world. (50)It is this implicit or explicit reference to nature that fully justifiesthe use of word garden, though in a “liberated” sense, to describe these synthetic constructions. In them we cansee biophilia—a yearning for contact with nonhuman life—assuming uncanny representational forms.Section III WritingPart A51. 英语作文该不该用网络

英语作文该不该用网络

英语作文该不该用网络英文回答:The question of whether or not internet use should be incorporated into English composition remains a topic of significant debate. On the one hand, proponents of internet integration argue that it can enhance learning and improve students' writing skills. Access to online resources, such as grammar checkers, thesauruses, and online dictionaries, can provide students with invaluable support in refining their written work. Additionally, the internet offers a vast repository of writing samples, literary analysis, and writing guides that can serve as valuable learning tools. On the other hand, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of internet use on English composition. Detractors argue that overreliance on the internet can lead to a decline in students' critical thinking skills and a diminishing ability to express their ideas independently. Moreover, the ease with which studentscan access and copy content from the internet may foster a culture of plagiarism and undermine the integrity of their written work.To strike a balance between these contrasting perspectives, it is essential to approach internet use in English composition with carefully considered guidelines. Educators should encourage students to use the internet as a complementary tool to enhance their learning rather than as a primary source of content. By integrating internet resources judiciously and fostering critical evaluation skills, teachers can harness the potential of the internet to improve students' writing while mitigating potential risks.中文回答:在英语写作教学中是否应该使用互联网的问题一直备受争议。

从网上获取新闻知识的好处英语作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The Internet is Awesome for Learning News!Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I love using the internet to learn about news and what's going on in the world. It's so much fun and I've learned a ton of cool stuff! Before I started going online, I didn't really know much about current events. I would sometimes hear little bits on the radio in the car with my mom or see headlines when we passed a newspaper stand. But I didn't understand most of it. News always seemed kind of boring and hard to follow. Then one day in class, our teacher Mrs. Thompson showed us some kid-friendly news websites. That's when everything changed for me! All of a sudden, I could readeasy-to-understand news stories on just about any topic. And they had videos, games, and activities to make learning even more interactive and enjoyable. From those sites, I've learned about amazing science discoveries, cool new technology, important events happening around the world, and so much more. News isn't boring at all when you can explore it in a fun, engaging way meant just for kids. Let me tell you about some of the awesome things I've learned recently!A few months ago, I read an article about these new robots that scientists invented to help explore other planets. The robots can roll around really easily and even drill into rocks to take samples. Isn't that crazy?! It's like having a little science lab on another world. I watched a video that showed how the robots work and it was so fascinating. I want to be a scientist now so I can build cool robots like that!Another time, there was a news story about a massive storm that hit a country called Mozambique in Africa. The storm was called a cyclone and it caused terrible flooding. So many people lost their homes and didn't have food, water or shelter. But then I saw that people and organizations all around the world were sending help like food, medicine, blankets and even temporary housing. It was amazing to see how people came together during such a horrible disaster. It really opened my eyes to how connected everyone is globally.I've also gotten to follow some fun news stories that weren't too serious. Like when the first pictures came back from the new James Webb Space Telescope that was launched into space. The images of distant galaxies were mind-blowing! It was like seeing a picture for the first time of those starry night sky scenes I used to only imagine. And who knew that scientists could even take pictures of that?Using kid-friendly internet sites has allowed me to explore news & current events in a way I can actually understand and enjoy. The stories are clearly written, there are helpful visuals, and I can find trustworthy sources filtered for my age level. I'm genuinely excited to learn about what's happening now in science, technology, world events, and so much else.I can't get all of that from just watching TV news shows or reading regular newspapers. Those are mostly made for adults and go way over my head. But everywhere I go online, there are new surprises and fascinating information made just for young people like me.My friends who don't use the internet to learn about news are really missing out. Half the time when I bring up an interesting new topic, like the asteroid NASA just slammed a spacecraft into (how cool is that?!), they're completely clueless.Meanwhile, I know all about it because I read the exhilarating play-by-play updates when it actually happened.Getting news from the internet has made me smarter for sure. But more importantly, it's opened up my eyes to this amazing world we live in. Every day there are new discoveries, new events shaping the future, and incredible stories unfolding across the globe. And now I have a front row seat to it all!I may only be a kid, but thanks to the internet, I'm truly a global citizen. I know what's happening in My town and also halfway across the world. I learn aboutancient histories and cutting-edge innovations happening today. Massive world events and tiny personal stories are all at my fingertips with a few taps on a screen. The adult version of news seems so dry and dull to me now. Give me the interactive, multimedia, easy-to-digest kids news any day! I'll take the immersive worlds of knowledge over the talking-heads reading headlines off a teleprompter. Not to mention that a lot of "grown-up" news has to censor things to avoid inappropriate content for children. Why watch篇2The Awesome Advantages of Getting News OnlineHi there! Today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite things - using the internet to learn all sorts of amazing facts and news from around the world. Raise your hand if your parents or teachers have told you that spending too much time online can be bad. I used to think that too, until I realized just how powerful the internet can be for learning new things every single day!Let me start by saying that of course, we shouldn't spend ALL our time staring at screens. It's important to play outside, read physical books, and interact with family and friends in the real world too. But when it comes to accessing a massive libraryof constantly updating information on every topic you can imagine, nothing beats the internet! It's like having a doorway to the whole world's knowledge right at our fingertips. One of the best things about getting news and knowledge from websites is how fresh and current it all is. When major events happen anywhere on the planet, you can read all about them online in just seconds. Can you imagine if we had to wait for news stories to be printed in books or newspapers? By the time we read about something happening, it would already be old news! But because journalists and bloggers are constantly posting updates to the internet, we can follow along with breaking news as it unfolds live. How cool is that? From politics to science, sports, entertainment, you name it - the internet has it all. I'm sure we've all used a search engine like Google or Yahoo to look up facts for a school project before. But have you ever gone a step further and checked out some news websites too? They're awesome! My favorite is the NASA website for learning about the latest space missions and discoveries. Just the other day I read an article about the Mars rover finding new evidence that there may have been ancient life on the Red Planet. Mind blowing stuff!Speaking of far-out places, the internet also lets us virtually visit any location on Earth through photos, videos, maps and more. Planning a dream vacation? No problem - just do some online research to get a sneak peek at the sights you want to see. Or if traveling to the other side of the world isn't an option, no worries - the internet brings it all to you. With just a few clicks, you can take a video tour of the Egyptian pyramids, the Amazon rainforest, or the Great Barrier Reef. How's that for an educational adventure from the comfort of your couch? But it's not just about learning facts from websites. The internet also connects us to real people's personal experiences and perspectives through blogs, forums, and social media. We can read first-hand accounts of current events as they happen, straight from people witnessing them live. Or hear stories and viewpoints from folks in other countries and cultures. It really opens our eyes to how amazingly diverse the human experience is all over our big, beautiful planet.Another super power of the internet is how easy it makes collaborating with others who share your interests, no matter where they live. Maybe you're really into coding and want to start your own website. Or maybe dinosaurs are your passion and you want to swap fossil facts with a friend in Australia.Online, you can connect with awesome people all over who are just as enthusiastic about the same topics as you!In my opinion, the more we take advantage of the internet to soak up news and knowledge from around the globe, the better! It motivates us to keep exploring, questioning, and being curious about our rapidly changing world. Speaking of which, what fascinating new things have YOU discovered online recently? I'm always eager to learn more, so comment below and share your favorite websites or mind-blowing internet finds! At the end of the day, having the world's information at our fingertips is an incredible opportunity that kids centuries ago could only dream about. We live in an age of endless exploration and discovery, and the internet is our gateway to experiencing it all. So let's use it to become a generation of learners, adventurers, and problem-solvers who are plugged into the pulse of what's new and amazing, both locally and globally. The wonders of the web are waiting - all you have to do is start clicking!篇5The Amazing World of Online News!Hi there! My name is Jamie and I'm a 4th grader who loves learning about what's happening in the world around me.Thanks to the internet, I can discover SO many cool things that are going on every single day. Let me tell you about some of the awesome benefits of getting news and information from online sources!Convenience at My FingertipsOne of the best things about online news is how easy it is to access from pretty much anywhere. All I need is a phone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection and I'm set! I don't have to wait for the morning paper to be delivered or for the evening news to come on TV. Whenever I'm curious about current events, I can just do a quick search and find all sorts of articles and videos from news sites all over the world. It's super convenient to be able to learn about breaking news stories as they happen from my devices.Multimedia Keeps Me EngagedSpeaking of videos, another great advantage of web news is that it combines text with photos, videos, audio clips, graphics, and interactive elements to make the information way more engaging. Reading long articles with nothing but words can get boring after a while. But online stories often have cool multimedia components that grab my attention and help me better understand what's being discussed. The videos especiallymake major events like natural disasters, protests, sports championships and more come alive in a vivid way.Exploring My Diverse InterestsThe internet opens up a whole universe of news about the topics that fascinate me most. Whether I'm into technology, gaming, movies, science, animals, outer space, or pretty much anything else, there are dedicated sites out there packed with interesting stories and the latest updates related to my niche hobbies and obsessions. It's amazing how I can go down a rabitt hole learning all about my favorite things whenever I want.Getting Global & Local PerspectivesAnother awesome benefit is that the web gives me access to both a global view of the world and an inside look at what's happening in my own community. With just a few clicks, I can read about major international events happening across the globe one minute, then switch over to a local news website or blogger to see what's new in my city or neighborhood the next. This overview from macro to micro level perspectives helps me understannd how world issues impact my life at home and vice versa.Developing Critical ThinkingWhile getting news online is super cool and convenient, my parents and teachers always remind me that I can't believe everything I read on the internet. There's a ton of false information, rumors, and purposely misleading content out there mixed in with the facts. This has really pushed me to develop my critical thinking abilities from a young age. Whenever I come across a new news story, I have to carefully analyze the source, cross-check the details across multiple outlets, and decide what seems truthful and what might be biased or inaccurate. Practicing this critical eye against online misinformation will serve me well as I get older.Different Viewpoints & Open DiscussionsThe best thing about news on the internet, in my opinion, is the ability to easily find diverse viewpoints and perspectives on hot issues, then engage in open discussions with others. Pretty much every news article or video I read/watch online has a comments section where people from all walks of life chime in with their reactions, opinions, and additional context. I love reading these different points of view — some which align with my thinking and some which challenge it. And if I have more thoughts, I can jump into the conversation respectfully and either defend my stance or rethink my position based on whatothers say. These types of open dialogues and civil debates are so valuable for expanding my understanding of complex topics.A Never-Ending Educational ResourceAt the end of the day, the internet is an endless treasure trove of news and knowledge that I can always keep exploring. Anytime I finish reading about one event or subject, I can simply open up a new tab and dive into something else that piques my curiosity. I can spend hours upon hours clicking around reputable news sites, absorbing new information that impacts me as a student, a member of my community, a citizen of my country, and a resident of planet Earth. Every bit of quality data I consume helps make me a more informed and aware young person who is ready to make a positive impact on the world when I grow up. The vastness of online news is myalways-available virtual classroom. So those are some of the top reasons why I thinkgetting news from the internet is amazing. It makes keeping up with current events incredibly easy and immerssive. It opens up a globe of knowledge tailored to my particular interests. It gives me multiple perspectives so I can think critically about important issues. And ultimately, it's an infinite well of educational resources to help me become a well-rounded person. Whilebeing a kid in the digital age certainy has its downsides and risks, being able to access accurate, fact-based news from online sources is definitely one of the awesome advantages that will only help fuel my curiosty and prepare me for the future.篇6Title: Why Getting News from the Internet is Awesome!Hi there! My name is Lucy, and I'm a 10-year-old girl who loves learning new things every day. One of my favorite ways to learn is by reading news articles on the internet. I know what you're thinking - "News? Isn't that boring stuff for grown-ups?" But trust me, getting news knowledge from the internet is actually really cool and has so many benefits! Let me tell you all about it.First of all, the internet is like a gigantic library that never closes. Whenever I want to learn about something new happening in the world, I can simply go online and find tons of articles, videos, and even interactive games that teach me all about it. It's like having access to the most up-to-date information on every topic imaginable, right at my fingertips! One of the things I love most about getting news from the internet is how it helps me understand what's going on indifferent parts of the world. You see, traditional news sources like newspapers and TV shows often focus on major events happening in big cities or other countries. But thanks to the internet, I can read stories and see videos from people living in small towns, remote villages, or even in the middle of the rainforest! It's like taking a virtual field trip to all these amazing places without ever leaving my bedroom.Another great thing about getting news online is that it helps me learn about different cultures and perspectives. When I read articles written by people from different backgrounds, I get to see how they view the world and understand their unique experiences. It's like having pen pals from all over the globe, except instead of writing letters, we're sharing our stories and ideas through the internet. But it's not just about learning new things - getting news from the internet is also a lot of fun! There are so many cool websites and apps that present information in really engaging and interactive ways. Some sites even have games or quizzes that test my knowledge on current events, which makes learning feel more like playing than studying.Another thing I love about getting news from the internet is how it encourages me to think critically and form my ownopinions. When I read different perspectives on the same issue, it challenges me to analyze the information, consider various viewpoints, and then decide what I believe is right or wrong. It's like being a detective, gathering clues and piecing together the puzzle to find the truth. But the best part about getting news knowledge from the internet is how it inspires me to take action and make a difference in the world. When I learn about important issues like climate change, animal conservation, or human rights, I feel motivated to do something about it. Whether it's starting a recycling campaign at school, organizing a fundraiser for a good cause, or simply spreading awareness among my friends and family, the internet gives me the knowledge and tools to become an active global citizen. So, if you're like me and love learning new things, I highly recommend getting your news knowledge from the internet. It's a fun, engaging, and eye-opening way to explore different cultures, understand global issues, and develop your critical thinking skills. Plus, who knows? You might just discover your passion for a particular topic or cause and end up making a real difference in the world!。

因特网的起源英文作文英文:The origin of the Internet can be traced back to the 1960s, when the United States Department of Defense created the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET). The purpose of ARPANET was to create a communication system that could survive a nuclear attack, by allowing information to be transmitted through multiple routes. In the 1970s, the development of TCP/IP protocols allowed different computer networks to communicate with each other, laying the foundation for what we now know as the Internet. The first email was sent in 1971, and thefirst domain name was registered in 1985.The Internet as we know it today really took off in the 1990s, with the introduction of the World Wide Web and the first web browser, Mosaic. This made it much easier for people to access and share information online, and openedup a whole new world of possibilities.Overall, the Internet has had a huge impact on the way we communicate, work, and live our lives. It has revolutionized everything from shopping and entertainmentto education and politics.中文:互联网的起源可以追溯到20世纪60年代,当时美国国防部创建了高级研究计划局网络(ARPANET)。

中国在技术发展方面的优势英语作文

中国在技术发展方面的优势英语作文China's Amazing Tech Power!Hi friends! Today I want to tell you all about the awesome technology that my country China is working on. China is becoming a total tech superpower and I'm really proud of all the cool innovations we are making.First off, let me tell you about China's push into artificial intelligence or AI. AI is like super smart computer brains that can think and learn almost like humans. China has some of the best AI scientists and companies in the world. We are the leaders in things like facial recognition software that can identify people from pictures or videos. Our AI is used a lot for security to help catch bad guys. China also rules when it comes to voice recognition AI that can understand the human voice and languages like Chinese.Another area where China is a technology master is 5G mobile networks. 5G is the latest ultra fast cell phone network that lets you stream videos, play games, and browse the internet at lightning speeds from anywhere. China jumped out ahead of most countries in rolling out 5G across our major cities. Companies like Huawei are global leaders in 5G infrastructureand equipment. With 5G, we can connect more devices to these superfast networks to enable smart cities, self-driving cars, and the Internet of Things.Speaking of the Internet of Things, that's another area of tech where China shines. The Internet of Things is about connecting everyday objects like fridges, lights, watches and more to the internet through sensors and chips. China is a manufacturing powerhouse, so we are taking the lead in producing smart home appliances, wearable devices, and other cool connected gadgets. Companies like Xiaomi make incredibly affordable but high-tech phones, smart watches, and robot vacuum cleaners that WiFi right into your smart home system.Renewable energy is another field where Chinese tech companies are rocking it. We are the world's largest producer of solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicle batteries. Companies like Trina Solar are leaders in photovoltaic cells that turn sunlight into electricity. China also makes a ton of thehigh-tech components that go into solar farms and wind energy plants around the globe. Our push into renewables is helping protect the environment too! When it comes to advanced transit, China is deploying some mind-blowing transportation tech across our cities as well. Wehave bucket-loads of electric vehicles on the roads, fromeco-friendly buses to hot electric cars like those made by Nio. But even cooler are/is(?) the development of cutting-edgehigh-speed rail networks to connect major cities with trains that can reach over 350 km/h! Shanghai even has a super-advanced Maglev train line that uses powerful magnetic levitation to glide at crazy speeds.Aerospace is the next big frontier, and China is making huge strides in space exploration tech. Our astronauts have been visiting our brand new Tiangong space station that we assembled in orbit. We also landed robot rovers on the dark side of the Moon, which was a world first! Coming up, China is aiming to launch a historic crewed mission to Mars by the end of this decade and bring back soil samples. We are investing tons into R&D for new rockets, satellites, landers and more. The sky is definitely not the limit! One area that makes me particularly proud is China's advances in technology to help people. We are a global leader in medical robots and machines that can assist doctors and nurses. The amazing Da Vinci robot helps surgeons operate with tiny instruments to make procedures less invasive. Our scientists also use gene sequencing technology to map DNA and developtreatments for diseases. Growing up, I want to be part of this booming biotech sector that is extending lives and curing the sick. While I've mentioned a bunch of serious high-tech fields, China's gaming and entertainment technologies rock too! We have massively popular titles like Honor of Kings that hundreds of millions play. Our gamers compete in huge esports tournaments showcasing the best graphics and multiplayer experiences. Chinese filmmakers are pioneering new ways to capture mind-blowing visual effects using motion capture rigs, CGI rendering and advanced video editing software. The movie-viewing experience is also being transformed by amazing VR/AR headsets developed by Chinese companies for the ultimate in immersion into virtual worlds. With all this incredible technological progress, it's no surprise that China's private tech giants like Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu are real titans on the global stage now. These companies are just as innovative as American counterparts like Google, Amazon or Apple. In fact, Chinese tech companies excel in areas like mobile payments, ecommerce and digital finance. China is really at the forefront of amazing new financialtechnologies or "fintech" that make things like banking, investing and shopping so much easier.I could go on and on, but I've hopefully given you a glimpse into how China's technological capabilities are becomingworld-class acrossalmost every domain. From artificial intelligence and renewables to aerospace, biotech and more, we are a force to be reckoned with in the global technology race. My generation is being raised immersed in all this incredible innovation happening around us. It's normal for us to have super smart tech assisting us in every aspect of our lives. The future is being created through the tools we develop today. China is taking its rightful place as one of the great leaders in driving progress through ambitious research, investment and implementation of cutting-edge technologies. We are no longer just an economy that manufactures products dreamed up elsewhere. Chinese companies, universities and labs are birthing whole new fields and industries that didn't even exist a decade ago. This tech revolution is just getting started.Who knows what will be possible with the unleashing of Chinese technological creativity combined with our hard work, discipline and determination to be pioneers? The 21st century could very well belong to China when it comes to achievingbreakthroughs that transform our world in wildly unexpected ways. As for me, I can't wait to see what future Chinese innovations will make possible and hopefully contribute to that process someday. The sky's the limit, or should I say the cosmos is the limit! China's reachalready extends into outer space and will go even farther thanks to our techsavviness. Watch out world, here we come!。
