Letters of Application
The purpose of a letter of application is to help the applicant obtain the job he is interested in.
Letters of Application should
1) state clearly what position the applicant wants,
2) tell what his abilities are and what he has to offer,
3) provide a quick, clear picture of the applicant‟s qualifications, accomplishments
and aims,
4) present the applicant to possible employers in the best light,
5) be simple, human, person and brief without omitting any essential or pertinent
facts.
Applicants of the letter should:
1)avoid writing a dull, stereotyped letter of application,
2)avoid generalities and make the letter interesting and specific,
Letters of Recommendation
Employers/ schools usually need more information about potential employees than given in letters of application, application forms and resumes. A letter of recommendation will supply this information.
Generally, a recommendation letter includes the following information:
1)The full name of the applicant;
2)How long and how well the referee has known the applicant;
3)The relationship between the referee and the applicant;
4) A report on the applicant‟s attitudes to the job or for the admission to the school;
5)An assessment of the applicant‟s personal qualities;
6)The applicant‟s knowledge of English;
7) A conclusion to show whether the referee is in full support of the applicant for the
job or for the admission to the school.
