Surface Reconstruction Process History First generation of surface reconstruction (80’s): Input = points Process = manual Output = « dead » surfaces, user driven degree, few spans, topology kept Second generation (90’s): Process = manual to semi-automatic Output = « dead » surfaces with low degree and a lot of spans (semi-automatic) or user driven degree and few spans (manual), topology kept Third generation (end of 90’s): Process = more automation Output = « dead surfaces » with low degree and a very large number of spans, topology not kept Fourth generation (2002): Output = dynamic surfaces (can be edited)
