华东师范大学研究生英语期末考试作文汇总第一篇:华东师范大学研究生英语期末考试作文汇总竞争与合作精神 sense of competition and cooperationEX 1Competition is a common phenomenon in our social life.We compete when we play games, we try to do better than others in our study, and there is constantcompetition for jobs, fame, wealth and so forth. We can say that, in a certain sense, competition is one of the motive forces of the development of the society. We often find competition and cooperation at the same time.Think of a football game.During the game, one team is competing against the other, but each member of the team must cooperate with his teammates.Otherwise, they would lose the game however skilled every individual player might be.While advocating competition, we must not forget cooperation. In modern society, cooperation is especially necessary because except for a few craftsmen and artists, most work is fulfilled with and through other people. In many cases, we can not achieve anything if there are only competition and no cooperation.EX 2Competition and cooperation竞争与合作Cooperation and competition are both important. They are attributes(归因于,属性)which are equally necessary for a person to achieve success in his life.Learn to be cooperative. No one likes a selfish, greedy, or arrogant(自大的)individual. However, everyone likes a considerate(体谅的)and cooperative person.Everything we do today, whether in doing business or making friends, depend upon our ability to get along with one another. In our society, most tasks demand thecooperation of many individuals so that they can be accomplished effectively. In this situation, we must be supportive(支援的)and cooperative. Each person is like a small part of a machine. If only one part is out of order, the machine can’t be running well.Besides, transportation and communication systems are rapidly developing and people all over the world can get in touch with each other more easily. It is hard for a person who is isolated(孤立的)from the society to have a deep understanding of the world he lives and to accomplish(实现)a feat(功绩)in his career.Cooperation is becoming more and more important for a person to earn a good life.Being competitive also has a place in life.If you want to achieve more success and be better than others, you must work harder, study more diligently(勤奋地), and adapt yourself to competition. The desire to succeed and do better than othersinspires(激励)us to work harder. If there were no competition, a sports meet would never be exciting and successful, and we would never have champions(冠军的地位).No doubt, we often find there is an inseparable(不可分离的)relationship between competition and cooperation. In a football match, either team is competing with other. But each member of the team is cooperating with his teammates. We cooperate with others to be more competitive;we compete to earn a better environment for cooperation. Thus we can make progress(前进)continuously.Only competition together with cooperation leads us to realize our goals and satisfy our needs.EX 2Living in an era of information and technology, individuals are confronted with a wide variety of competitions or pressures: in study, we suffer from academiccompetition;in work, we live under pressure of efficiency;in life, we strive against the ascending cost of living. Some are in favor of competition. In their eyes, without competition, it is impossible for the society as a whole to progress.Besides, in their opinion, competition will definitely promote the development of those who spare no effort to work, which otherwise would be impossible.二段:三句话:反方观点+反方理由1(危害)+反方理由1(危害)Rewarding as it is, others hold an opposite perspective.First, what makes many experts worried is that too many competitions may harm people’s physical and mental fitness.Second, to some extent, their opinion derives from the fact that competition between friends or colleagues may impair the friendship or team spirit. As a college student, I am firmly convinced that it is necessary to have some competition. In spite of the disadvantages, we do need competition to enhance our working and studying efficiency.Only by means of proper competition can we hope to witness the ideal scene in which every one spare no effort to their work and study.EX 4How Should College Students Relieve Pressure?Today’s college students face many pressures, mainly from parents’ expectation, study, economy, employment and all kinds of competition.[1]Although pressure to some extent can provide motivation, overdue pressure has a serious negative effect.Pressure can destroy a student’s confidence.[2]More seriously, it might make some students lose control of their emotions and behaviors.[3]Considering the great damage of overdue pressure, college students should learn to how to relieve pressure.[2]First, we should have a right evaluation of ourselves[4]so as to [5]make use of advantages and avoid disadvantages.[2]Second, we should[6]set a clear aim of a struggle. The aim can give us motivation, and make us become active.[2]Third, [7]attending collective activities is an effective way to relieve pressure.[2]Finally, if you find pressure is nearly [8]beyond your control, you’d better turn to professional psychological guidance. From :.[2]As to me, my pressure is mainly from future employment.[4]In order to reduceit, I asked my parents help me analyse my advantages and disadvantages, and produce a more practical job objection.[2]So my employment pressure was relieved greatly. Now I become confident in my future, and I [9]do believe I can get an ideal job after my graduation.EX 5Competition is inevitable;it’s human petition builds character;it strengthens our petition is regarded as an open and fair race where success goes to the swiftest people regardless of their social petition is required to help us reach our fullest potential.(Natural selection and survival of the fittest.)Cooperation offers us a break from the pressure and stress of competition.A win-win approach tends to fosters exploration of the root causes of the conflict and leads to constructive, sustainable solutions with positive expectation for future encounters.Cooperative groups display more coordinated efforts, more division of labor, more acceptance of other ideas, and
Unit OneA.
Eliza. W. Farrar,
Thank you !B.An important step in becoming an effective flatterer is to understand why flattery helps you establish better relationships with others. The root cause of the power of flattery gets at a basic principle of human behavior: People crave being appreciated., The vast majority of people are of the similar idea despite different cultures. In Asian cultures the desire for group recognition is generally stronger than the desire for individual recognition. Nevertheless, the need for recognition is present. Many people hold that the joy of work itself is more important than external recognition, including flattery. The joy of work may be a powerful motivator, but even those who get the biggest joy from their work--- such as scientists, artists, and photographers --- crave flat tery and recognition. Otherwise they wouldn’t compete for Nobel Prizes or enter their work in important exhibitions.Another reason flattery is so effective relates to the normal need to be recognized. Although some articles and books have been written and preached zealously about flattery, most people receive less recognition than they deserve. Many people hardly ever receive compliments either on the job or at home, thus intensifying their demand for flattery.Unit FiveA.
1An Image or a Mirage
Unit 1 An Image or a MirageThere is a distinct difference between a winning image and mirage. A mirage is an illusion, and in your quest for a winning image, you must be capable of identifying such mirages.
One of a common misread image stems from what people think about eye contact. How many times have you heard, “You can tell he’s an honest man because he looks you straight in the eye.” Evidently, many people must believe that a dishonest man feels so as hamed that he’s not telling the truth that he can’t even face them directly. But what about an honest individual who is too shy to look straight at you? Furthermore, a good con artist knows that many people judge integrity by the way one looks at them, so he deliberately includes eye contact in his act. Because you can’t count on eye contact as an infallible test, you should never use it to evaluate another person’s honesty. Nonetheless, since most people do judge others by this criterion, be sure that you always look them squarely in the eye.

Unit 2 Down and Out in Paris and London巴黎、伦敦落魄记You discover the extreme precariousness of your six francs a day. Mean disasters happen and rob you of food. You have spent your last eighty centimes on half a litre of milk, and are boiling it over the spirit lamp. While it boils a bug runs down your forearm; you give the bug a flick with your nail, and it falls, plop! straight into the milk. There is nothing for it but to throw the milk away and go foodless.
You go to the baker’s to buy a pound of bread, and you wait while the girl cuts a pound for another customer. She is clumsy, and cuts more than a pound. “Pardon, monsieur,” she says, “I suppose you don’t mind paying two sous extra?” Bread is a franc a pound, and you have exactly a franc. When you think that you might be asked to pay two sous extra, and would have to confess that you could not, you bolt in panic. It is hours before you dare venture into a baker’s shop again.
英语期末考试课文翻译华师大the way for suit dream
one of the factors that sets Dream Hotels apart is the speed and willingness with which the staff do their jobs. Take room service. In your really classy dream hotel this function is performed by an elite corps of deaf mutes who, especially when they are bringing breakfast ,know that you do not wish to speak .They maintain a monastic silence in your presence. They bring you food that is hot. They accept your tip ,even if it is in the wrong currency, with a small reverential bow. Then, pocketing your worthless dong or piastre without a murmur, they depart as quickly and quietly as they came.
Compare that with the kind of thing one is likely to find in the lesser British hostelries patronized by us working journos. When you ring for room service the man at the desk often doesn’t know what room service is. You urge him to make a few inquiries, and eventually, sucking hard at his teeth, he connects you to the laundry. When you finally get through to the appreciate person, you ask, let us say, for tea and toasted sandwiches. then you must be patient. During the time it takes to come you can write a novel, go bald, change sex, perhaps even retire.and when it does arrive, of course, it isn’t toasted sandwiches at all. it’s yesterday’s scones. And the pot contains tepid water and a solitary teabag floating on the surface like a dead frog in a pond.

In fact, by the time they begin to write about their research, they have made many seemingly unimportant choices of details that have foreclosed their choice of a theoretical approach. They decided what questions to investigate. They picked a way of gathering information. They chose between a variety of minor technical and procedural alternatives: who to interview, how to code their data, when to stop. As they made these choices from day to day, they increasingly committed themselves to one way of thinking, more or less firmly answering the theoretical questions they thought were still up for grabs. But sociologists, and especially students, fuss about choosing a theory for a practical reason. They have to—at least they think they do—deal with the “literature” on their topic. Scholars learn to fear the literature in graduate school. I remember Professor Louis Wirth, one of the distinguished members of the Chicago school, putting Erving Goffman, then a fellow graduate student of mine, in his place with the literature gambit. It was just what we all feared. Believing Wirth had not given sufficiently serious attention to some influential ideas about operationalism, Goffman challenged him in class with quotations from Percy Bridgeman’s book on the subject. Wirth smiled and asked sadistically, “Which edition is that, Mr. Goffman?”Maybe there was an important difference between editions, though none of us believed that. We thought, instead, that we’d better be careful about the literature or They Could Get You. “They”included not only teachers but peers, who might welcome an opportunity to show how well they knew the literature at your expenses.-------Excerpts of Chapter 8 “Terrorized by the Literature”, from Writing for Social Scientists: How to Start and Finish Your Thesis, Book, or Article

As a high school student with aspirations to further my education, Ive always been fascinated by the idea of pursuing a postgraduate degree. The journey to get there, however, is not an easy one, and it involves a significant challenge: the Graduate Record Examinations GRE. One of the critical components of GRE is the Analytical Writing section, which tests the ability to articulate complex ideas in English. I remember vividly the moment when I first encountered the GRE Analytical Writing task, and the daunting feeling it gave me.The GRE Analytical Writing section is scored on a scale of 0 to 6, in halfpoint increments. Achieving a score of 0.7 on the GRE Analytical Writing is not an easy feat, as it requires a high level of proficiency in English and the ability to construct a wellorganized, coherent, and persuasive argument. It was during my preparation for the GRE that I realized the importance of not just understanding the language, but also mastering the art of writing. My journey began with a comprehensive review of English grammar and vocabulary. I spent countless hours reading articles, essays, and books to enhance my comprehension and expand my vocabulary. I also made it a point to practice writing regularly. Initially, my essays were filled with grammatical errors and lacked coherence. But with each draft, I could see improvement. I learned to structure my thoughts better, to use evidence effectively, and to present my arguments in a logical and persuasive manner. One of the most challenging aspects of the GRE Analytical Writing task isthe time constraint. You are given only 30 minutes to write an essay that critically evaluates an argument or a claim. This requires not just the ability to write well, but also to think quickly and organize your thoughts under pressure. To prepare for this, I practiced timed writing sessions, simulating the conditions of the actual exam. Moreover, I sought feedback from my teachers and peers. Their constructive criticism helped me identify my weaknesses and work on them. I learned the importance of clarity, conciseness, and the effective use of examples to support my arguments. I also learned to avoid common pitfalls such as vague language, circular reasoning, and irrelevant information. In addition to practicing and receiving feedback, I also studied the scoring criteria for the GRE Analytical Writing section. Understanding what the graders are looking for is crucial. It helped me focus my efforts on developing the skills and strategies that would earn me a higher score. I learned to write with a clear purpose, to use evidence effectively, and to organize my essay in a way that is easy to follow. The process was not without its struggles. There were times when I felt overwhelmed by the complexity of the task and the pressure to perform well. But I persevered, driven by my desire to achieve my academic goals. I reminded myself that every great achievement requires hard work and dedication. In the end, my efforts paid off. When I received my GRE scores, I wasthrilled to see that I had achieved a 0.7 on the Analytical Writing section. It was a testament to the countless hours of practice, the valuable feedback I received, and the lessons I learned along the way.Achieving a 0.7 on the GRE Analytical Writing section is not just about mastering the English language. It is about developing critical thinking skills, the ability to construct a compelling argument, and the resilience to persevere in the face of challenges. It is a journey that requires dedication, hard work, and a commitment to continuous improvement. And for me, it was a journey that was both challenging and rewarding, one that has prepared me for the next chapter of my academic journey.。

This needs to run throughout an organization and is not exclusive to management.”(第一章P29 第一段)2.

An important step in becoming an effective flatterer is to understand why flattery helps you establish better relationships with others. The root cause of the power of flattery gets at a basic principle of human behavior: People crave being appreciated., The vast majority of people are of the similar idea despite different cultures・In Asian cultures the desire for group recognition is generally stronger than the desire for individual recognition. Nevertheless, the need for recognition is present.
Many people hold that the joy of work itself is more important than external recognition, including flattery. The joy of work may be a powerful motivator, but even those who get the biggest joy from their work—such as scientists, artists, and photographers 一・crave flattery and recognition. Otherwise they wouldn't compete for Nobel Prizes or enter their work in important exhibitions.

You should decide on the best choice and write the answer on the Answer Sheet. Many disease researchers have warned that rising global temperatures could lead to more diseases, for example by allowing tropical diseases to expand their ranges into what are now mild regions. This is a particular fear for the diseases carried by insects such as malaria(疟疾)and sleeping sickness. But the reality is more complex, argues Kevin Lafferty, a disease ecologist at the US Geological Survey’s Western Ecological Research Center in Santa Barbara, California. He argues that a warming climate could favor some diseases in certain regions while inhibiting them in others.Lafferty does not deny that climate change might allow malarial mosquitoes(疟蚊) to spread to new areas. However, he believes that hotter and drier conditions may also eliminate mosquitoes from areas where they currently thrive, such as Sahel region in Africa. If this were the case, he says, there would be little, if any, net increase in the risk of disease. In addition, many temperate regions such as southern Europe or the southern U.S. have good sanitation and insect control programs which, Lafferty says, would prevent diseases from becoming prevalent even if climatic conditions were suitable. Finally, he argues, climate change could wipe many species off the planet.Infectiouspathogens(病原体) depend on their hosts for survival so they too may become endangered — especially if they, like malaria, rely on more than one host.Laffery’s paper caused such a big stir among its reviewers that the editor handling it, Ken Wilson of Lancaster University in the UK, commissioned a series of responses arguing both sides of the debate to publish alongside it.“I disagree with the whole line of reasoning,” says Mercedes Pascual of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She points out that there are large human populations in the east African highlands, just outside of the existing range of malarial mosquitoes, and as temperatures rise, the mosquitoes will reach these areas. This will more than offset any benefits from decreased risk elsewhere, she says. Most of the ecologists do, however, seem to agree on one point: predicting where a disease is going to go next involves far more than just climate. No matter how the debate is resolved, they all agree that health concerns should continue to play a critical role in climate policy, and the debate shouldn’t be regarded as weakening the case for action on global warming.42.Disease researchers generally believe that rising global temperature might cause _________.A.more diseases to be transferred into tropical regionsB.tropical diseases to be spread out of its original areasC.malaria and sleeping sickness to become more complexD.some diseases to be prevalent in all regions43.The underlined word “inhibiting” in the first paragraph is closest in meaning to _________.A. preventingB. livingC. freezingD. assistingfferty believes that a warming climate may __________.A.help mosquitoes in currently thriving areasB.cause a sharp decrease in the risk of diseaseC.prevent diseases from becoming prevalent everywhereD.kill many species that carry diseases45.Mercedes Pascual thinks that __________.fferty’s reasoning is partly acceptableB.east African highlands will be affected by mosquitoes due to global warmingC.mosquitoes will reach areas with large human populationsD.rising temperature will benefit places out of Africa46.Most of the ecologists agree that ___________.A.climate plays no role in predicting diseases.B.health issues should be the uppermost concern in policy makingC.action on global warming shall not be affected by the debateD.a policy should be made immediately to stop climate changeSection CDirections: In this section you will read a passage discussing Happiness. There are three paragraphs (Para.2-4) with incomplete sentences. You are asked to finish each sentence with NO MORE THAN 10 WORDS (see Questions 47-49). An example is provided in paragraph 1 (seeExample). After reading the whole passage, there will be three questions for you to answer (see Questions 50-52).1. What do we know about happiness? We know that people’s reports of immediate joy and misery fluctuate from activity to activity. We also know that subjective well-being can be complex. People can be happy about work and sad about love. The opposite of happiness, research suggests, is not necessarily despair, but rather apathy(淡漠). Some people just (Example).Answer: don’t feel much of anythingdon’t have (much) feeling for anythingfeel nothing/don’t feel much no matter what happens2. Nonetheless, people who say they are generally happy tend to be economically secure, married, healthy, religious, and busy with friends; they tend to live in affluent (富裕的), democratic, individualistic societies with activist, welfare-state governments. The connection between reporting happiness and personal traits often runs both ways. For example, being healthy adds to happiness, and (47)___________________.3. For decades, researchers have been especially interested in — and, with the recent invasion of economists, are now obsessed with — whether money makes people happy. We know that being poor makes people less happy. Some researchers argue, however, that having more money beyond that needed for basic security returns no additional happiness and can even create unhappiness. Making more money may be fruitless because people adapt psychologically to their levels of wealth and, like addicts and drugs, need ever more money to get the same level of pleasure. Or perhaps it’s not really about the money; it’s about position. People chase money to feel superior to the folks next door. That, of course, becomes a vicious and pointless cycle. Other researchers agree that the more money one makes, the more money it takes to move the happiness meter, but they nevertheless insist that more money — unlike the futile experience with drugs — does (48) , just at a slower pace.4. The money-happiness question was initially raised by economist Richard Easterlin, who observed that growing affluence since the mid-twentieth century had not led to more reports of happiness in national surveys. One explanation of the Easterlin Paradox, aside from adaptation and competition, is that increasing materialism ruined the pleasure Americans might have gotten from becoming wealthier. Some have argued that there is no paradox to start with, because the growing wealth since the 1970s has concentrated in the hands of the few. Average Americans haven’t gotten happier in part because(49)____________________.5.The experts pressing for happiness indicators are reacting to policymakers’ habit of assessing progress only in terms such as the Gross National Product. Happiness researchers propose blending their numbers with other measures of well-being, such as health statistics, educational attainment, social ties, political voice, and sustainability.6. Still, cautions are in order. Politically, this move expands the generation-long division between tree-hugger and lunch-bucket liberals. “Post-materialists,” who believe that Americans have extracted all the happiness wealth can provide, argue that we should work on other sources of happiness, such as personal relationships and experiencing nature. Materialists, who believe that too many Americans are stuck way below some wealth-and-happiness optimum, argue that we should keep pushing for more and better-paid jobs.50. In Paragraph 3, money is compared to drugs. What’s their similarity?51. According to the passage, what factors may explain Easterlin Paradox?52. In order to gain more happiness, what is the claim of “materialists”?Section DDirections: In this section you will read two articles discussing sleep. Unit 4How to write a winning resume如何写一份成功的简历The main purpose of a resume is to convince an employer to grant you an interview. There are two kinds. One is the familiar “tombstone” that lists where you went to school and where you‟ve worked in chronological order. The other is what I call the “functional” resume--- descriptive, fun to read, unique to you and much more likely to land you an interview.
It‟s handy to have a “tomb-stone”for certain occasions. But prospective employers throw away most of those un-requested “tombstone”lists, preferring to interview the quick rather than the dead.
Put yourself first:In order to write a resume others will read with enthusiasm, you have to feel important about yourself.
[D]:A woman once told me about a cash-flow cris her employer had faced. She‟d agreed to work without pay for three months until business improved. Her reward was her back pay plus a 20 per cent bonus.I asked her why that marvelous story wasn‟t in her resume. She answered,“It wasn‟t important.” What she was really saying of course was “I‟m not important.”
”Sell what you can do,not who you are:推销你可以做什么,而不是你是谁:试着将你的个性特质,性格,成果和成就融入进工作领域。
[C]:For example, if you have a flair for saving, managing and investing money, you have money management skills.
Toot your own horn! Many people clutch when asked to think about their abilities. Some think they have none at all! But everyone does, and one of yours may just be the ticket an employer would be glad to punch---if only you show it.
[A]:A woman who lost her job as a teacher‟s aide due to a cutback in government funding wrote:”Principal of elementary school cited me as the only teacher‟s ai de she would rehire if government funds became available.”
”Be specific, be concrete, and be brief!让简历特殊,明确,简洁!Turn bad news into good:Everybody has had disappointments in work. If you have to mention yours, look for the positive side.
[B]:One resume I received included the following:…Invited by my superior to straighten out our organisation‟s accounts receivable.Set up orderly repayment schedule reconciled accounts weekly, and improved cash flow 100per cent.Rewarded with raise and promotion.
Never apologize:If you‟re returning to the work force after fifteen years as a parent, simply write a short paragraph (summaryof background)in place of a chronology of experience.Don‟t apologize for working at being a mother:it‟s the hardest job of a ll.If you have no special traing or higher education, just don‟t mention education.
How to psych yourself up:a printed resume is far superior to photocopies. It shows an employer that you regard job hunting as serious work, worth doing right.
Isn‟t that the kind of person you‟d want working for you?
