Produce farms may need greater separation from cattle, and cattle-raising practicesmay need to be changed to decrease the production of bacteria. We would be appalled to find human waste on our produce:We should be equally appalled to find animal manure,if that is what happened.21.We can learn from the first paragraph that[A]Many people are ill-informed of the danger caused by food pollution.[B]Fresh vegetables are much safer to health than packaged ones.[C]The area of central California is heavily polluted by food industry.[D]No vegetables other than leafy ones contribute to good health.22.What is the consumers’attitude towards the problem of food contamination?[A]Hysterical.[B]Indifferent.[C]Apprehensive.[D]Obedient.23.It can be learnt from Paragraph2that[A]The problem of bacteria pollution is to be further proved.[B]E.coli in leafy vegetables is more likely to cause diseases.[C]Investigators cannot find the causes for the contamination.[D]There are more cases of E.coli contamination in vegetables.24.According to regulators, the contamination most likely happens when[A]vegetables are grown in the fields.[B]people process fresh vegetables.[C]cattle are raised on a large scale.[D]animals drink from streams.25.From the text we can infer that[A]the current administration of food and drug is still inadequate.[B]food industry often overlooks vegetable contamination hazards.[C]animal farms will be integrated into responsible vegetable farms.[D]the solution to food pollution depends on corporate cooperation.Text2The U.S.has trouble controlling the spending habits of a health care colossus that is on track to consume20cents of every dollar by2015,a tripling from1970 levels. The excessive spending is rooted in the nation’s technophilia:medical technology accounts for as much as half the growth in health care spending.Although this trend has benefited everyone, not all those added dollars have been as well spent as device manufacturers would have us believe. Our love affair with next-generation imaging machines and the like has blinded us to the reality that scant evidence often exists for whether something novel works any better than existing equipment. The recently published book Overtreated Shannon Brownlee documents how superfluous computed tomography contributes to billions in medical care that does not better our health.In2005the state of Ohio had more MRI scanners than did all of Canada, leading physicians in Toledo to joke about why cars passing by city hospitals don’t swerve out of control because of strong magnetic fields.Yet studies have shown that imaging techniques such as MRI have not improved diagnosis as much as doctors and patients think they have. One solution, advocated by Brownlee,is a rejuvenation of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality(AHRQ)that would compare different treatments. It would be entrusted with comparing the benefits and risks of drugs, procedures and medical devices, while determining any benefits against costs. The same Congress that eliminated the Office of Technology Assessment(OTA)in1995almost did away with the AHRQ,which barely survived with diminished funding and powers:it now serves only as an information clearinghouse, not an organization that makes recommendations on Medicare reimbursement decisions.Several Democratic candidates have endorsed the need for institutes that would lay the foundation for“evidence-based”medicine.For a revitalized AHRQ to work asit should will require that a new president follow through with adequate funding, and assurance that Medicare will consider seriously its findings and, perhaps most important,a Federal Reserve—like independence from the momentary whims of the political establishment. The original impetus to dismantle the AHRQ came after a group of outraged back surgeons objected to the agency’s recommendation that surgery should not be tried before drugs and physical therapy.A watchdog that helps to ensure we pay only for what works, notwithstanding the entreaties of drug companies and equipment manufactures to do the opposite, will provide a powerful brake on the spiraling costs already choking our medical system.26.The joke by the doctors in Toledo is intended to show[A]Ohio doctors depend on MRI scanners.[B]medical resources are often wasted.[C]MRI scanners are extensively utilized.[D]doctors in Ohio are rendered redundant.27.The word“technophilia”(Para.2)most probably means[A]a love for advanced technology.[B]a fancy for imaging techniques.[C]a craze for medical spending.[D]an obsession with old equipment.28.What is the author’s attitude toward Brownlee’s suggested solution?[A]Skeptical.[B]Cautious.[C]Detached.[D]Supportive.29.The author associates the situation of AHRQ with that of OTA because[A]both of them have turned from bad to worse.[B]the outcome of the latter aggravates the former.[C]the fate of the latter is applicable to the former.[D]they both experienced the loss of public funding.30.Which of the following is true according to the text?[A]Americans are less inclined to be overtreated.[B]New technology are not necessarily effective in diagnosing.[C]It is no easy job to solve the problem of excessive medical spending.[D]American medicare used to stay free from political influences.Text3Carbon consumption could hardly be more conspicuous than jetting out to space for a quick peep at the heavens before coming home in time for tea—a form of tourism being pioneered by Sir Richard Branson, the British entrepreneur behind the Virgin brand.Having helped to invent a new way for the rich to add to the world’s abundance of greenhouse gases,Sir Richard is now trying to curb that growth.Last week he pledged to reinvest profits from his businesses into alternative energy. One such scheme involves building plants to make fuel from crops. In all,he plants to devote$3billion to green power sources over the next ten years. Then on September27th he called for the airline industry to cut carbon emissions by as much as a quarter through simple expedients such as towing aircraft to runways and gliding them gently to land. Why the outbreak of greenery?Sir Richard says he has belatedly woken up to the dangers of global warming and is concerned the climate is near a“tipping point”where small increases in greenhouse gases can lead to big changes in temperatures. His epiphany is said to have come during a meeting with Al Gore, the former American vice-president,now an alarmist film-maker.Cynics point out that his desire for greener planes and fuels might be aimed at reaping government subsidies for biofuels and heading off further regulation of transport emissions.Last week Parliament’s environment committee said the government needs to domore to deal with the rapidly growing impact of aviation on the climate.Pressure to limit airline emissions is mounting in Britain, mainly because the industry is producing an ever-larger share of the country’s greenhouse-gas output.Air traffic already accounts for about5.5%of the country’s CO2emissions but the effect may be larger than that figure suggests:scientists worry that pollutants released at high altitude are especially potent. In light of existing pledges by airline bosses to improve the fuel efficiency of new aircraft by50%over the two decades,Sir Richard’s call for a25%reduction looks neither ambitious nor particularly original. But his foray into green energy may be more determined, especially when set against commitments by larger firms such as BP and GE.This week Neste Oil,a Finnish energy company, said it would spend “several billion euros”on biofuels, illustrating what a booming industry alternative energy is becoming. And any breakthrough in biofuels would fit well with Sir Richard’s existing investments in transport. His ideas might not be ground-breaking, but they could well prove money-making.31.Sir Richard’s pioneering of space tour is mentioned to[A]give an episode of his unusual space travel.[B]spotlight his recent move to the application of biofuels.[C]explain why he changed his previous pledges.[D]refute his call for the reduction of carbon consumption.32.Why are larger firms like BP,GE and Neste Oil fascinated with green energy?[A]They deem it potentially profitable.[B]They intend to substantiate their pledges.[C]They are keen on its future rewards.[D]They are eager to enter the competition.33.The word“epiphany”(Para.3)most probably denotes[A]great courage.[B]sudden realization.[C]painful shame.[D]rare ingenuity.34.How does the author respond to Sir Richard’s call?[A]Seriously.[B]Reluctantly.[C]Ironically.[D]Enthusiastically.35.What can be inferred from the text?[A]Outer space explorations must be discouraged.[B]Large firms’pledges turn out to be unbelievable.[C]Conventional fuels are doomed to be obsolete.[D]Aircraft emissions are more environmentally harmful.Text4Because99percent of our evolutionary history was spent as hunter-gatherers living in small bands of a few dozen to a few hundred people,we evolved a psychology not always well equipped to reason our way around the modern world. What may seem like irrational behavior today may have actually been rational100 000years ago.Without an evolutionary perspective, the assumptions of Homo economicus—that“Economic Man”is rational,self-maximizing and efficient in making choices—make no sense.Take economic profit versus psychological fairness as an example.Behavioral economists employ an experimental procedure called the Ultimatum Game.It goes something like this. You are given$100to split between yourself and your game partner.Whatever division of the money you propose,if your partner accepts it,you are both richer by that amount. How much should you offer? Why not suggest a$90-$10split?If your game partner is a rational,self-interested money maximizer,he isn’t going to turn down a free10bucks,is he?He is.Research showsthat proposals that deviate much beyond a$70-$30split are usually rejected. Why?Because they aren’t fair.Says who?Says the moral emotion of“reciprocal altruism,”which evolved over the Paleolithic eons to demand fairness on the part of our potential exchange partners.“I’ll scratch your back if you’ll scratch mine”only works if I know you will respond with something approaching parity. The deeper evolution of this phenomenon can be seen in the behavior of our primate cousins.Frans de Waal and Sarah Brosnan found that in an experiment in which two capuchins were trained to exchange a granite stone for a cucumber slice, they made the trade95percent of the time. But if one monkey received a grape instead(a delicacy capuchins greatly prefer over cucumbers),the other monkey cooperated only60percent of the time, sometimes even refusing the cucumber slice altogether. In a third condition in which one monkey received a grape without even having to swap a granite stone for it,the other monkey cooperated only20percent of the time. And in several instances, they became so outraged at the inequity of the outcome they heaved the cucumber slice back at the human experimenters!Such results suggest that all primates(including us)evolved a sense of justice,a moral emotion that signals to the individual that an exchange was fair or unfair. Fairness evolved as a stable strategy for maintaining social harmony in our ancestors’small bands, where cooperation was reinforced and became the rule while freeloading was punished and became the exception. What would appear to be irrational economic choices today—such as turning down a free$10with a sense of righteous injustice —were,at one time, rational when seen through the lens of evolution.36.Speaking of human evolutionary history, the author suggests that[A]there is a radical change in psychology.[B]hunter-gathers felt unhappy with a50-to-50split.[C]it is human nature to maximize profits.[D]ancestors endeavored to maintain social harmony.37.The word“parity”most probably means[A]mutuality.[B]balance.[C]accuracy.[D]equity.38.The author cites Frans de WAal and Sarah’s experiment to[A]exemplify the characteristics of monkeys.[B]illustrate the fairness-demanding behavior.[C]justify the assumptions on choice making.[D]contradict the theory of evolutionism.39.What can we infer from the text?[A]Few people prefer irrational response toward injustice.[B]Humans are more likely to take advantage of others’generosity.[C]Freeloading must have been despised by our ancestors.[D]Monkeys tend to have a stronger sense of justice than humans.40.From the last sentence of the text,we can safely come to the conclusion that[A]some human traits are inherited from our ancestors.[B]human emotions evolved independently of animals’.[C]modern humans are different from ancient hunters.[D]the sense of fairness cannot pass down from monkeys.Part BDirections:The following paragraphs are given in a wrong order. For Questions41-45,you are required to reorganize these paragraphs into a coherent article by choosing from the list A-I to fill in each numbered box.The first and the last paragraphs have been placed for you in Boxes.Mark your answers on ANSWER SHEET1.(10points)[A]Games may be classified in several ways. There include the number of players required, the purpose of playing, the object of the game, the people who play them,or the place they are played. Many games fall into more than one of these categories,so the most common way of classifying games is by the equipment that is required to play them.[B]Card games,a different type, require a deck of cards, and sometimes paper and pencil for keeping score. Many popular games, including poker, bridge, and rummy, call for a standard deck of52playing cards. Some card games, such as canasta, use more than one deck or a larger deck. And other games use a deck from which certain cards have been removed,or decks with cards designed specifically for the game. [C]Board games probably make up the largest category of games. They are usually played on a flat surface made of cardboard, wood,or other material.Players place the board on a table or on the floor, then sit around it to play.In most board games, pieces are placed on the board and moved around on it.Dice, cards, and other equipment can be used.[D]Many games fall into more than one category. The board game Life, for example, has elements of race games, and Trivial Pursuit is often played at parties.Other types of board games include topical games, which can be based on currently popular movies, television programs,or books;and simulation games, which range from historical war games to civilization-building.[E]Games have been played for thousands of years and are common to all cultures. Throughout history and around the world, people have used sticks to draw simple game boards on the ground, making up rules that incorporate stones or other common objects as playing pieces.About5,000years ago people began to make more permanent game boards from sun-dried mud or wood. One of the earliest games, called senet, was played in ancient Egypt.Like many early games, senet had religious significance.Pictures on the board squares represented different parts of the journey that the ancient Egyptians believed the soul made after death.[F]Role-playing games, which can be played without boards or with playing fields drawn by hand on paper, are often considered a distinct game category. In these games, each player assumes the role of a character with particular strengths and weaknesses. Another player known as the game-master leads the character-players through adventures. The most famous role-playing game is Dungeons&Dragons, which was invented in the1970s.[G]In strategy board games, pieces are placed or moved in order to capture other pieces or to achieve such goals as gaining territory, linking pieces to one another,or aligning pieces together.Other major groups of board games include race games, word games, games of deduction, trivia games, party games, family games, financial games, sports games, action games, and games of conflict.[H]Some games, such as billiards and table tennis, are played on larger surfaces than board games, typically tables with legs. These table games also require different kinds of equipment from board games. In billiards, players use a cue stick to knock balls into one another.Table tennis players use paddles to hit a light ball back and forth over a net strung across the table.[I]The major kinds of card gems include trick-taking games,in which players try to take specific cards;melding games,in which players try to form winning combinations with their cards;betting games,in which players wager on the outcome; and solitaire games, which are played alone.A new category, collectible card games, became an overnight sensation in1993with the publication of Magic:The Gathering. In Magic and similar games, players buy a starter set of cards that they use to compete against other players. They can supplement the starter kit with additional purchases of random assortments of cards.Order:A→41.→42.→43.→H→44.→45.→IPart CDirections:Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments into Chinese.Your translation should be written clearly on ANSWER SHEET2.(10points)Our task now is to make some clarifications of and comments on the“history of educational ideas”and on the chief issues involved in it.Such a history should be distinguished, more than it sometimes is,from a history of education. The former is a history of certain ideas,of certain concepts and theories, and is a part of the general history of thought or ideas;(46)the latter is a history of certain actions, institutions, and practices, and is a part of the general history of what human beings have done and how they did it.The two histories are,of course, very intimately connected, but they should not be confused. In any case, however,a complete history of theories of education will include,in one way or another, histories of the three kinds of“ideas of education”.(47)The history of the idea of education would be the story,if it can be told,of the emergence into full consciousness of the concept of education we tried to analyze above. The closely related history of proposed analyses or definitions of that concept would be a part of the history of analytical philosophy of education, and so might be of interest both for the theory of definition and for the history of ideas. It would certainly appear that many proposed definitions of education are faulty, and that(48)many apparent definitions are really disguised normative theories about what the aims and means of education should be,in which case they belong to the history of such theories. The third of our histories would be a history of“the belief(or faith)in education”that has characterized some thinkers and epochs in our culture, and it or parts of it have often been told. Here we can only analyze the belief.(49)It is not a normative belief about the ends or means of education, but a factual conviction about its effects and results, such as Socrates sometimes appeared not to have.It entails a belief in the presuppositions of education formulated we discussed above, but it goes beyond them, not just to a confidence that education can in fact produce the dispositions it seeks to produce, but to a conviction that the acquisition of these dispositions will have certain hoped for results.(50)In modern times it has been associated with the idea of progress, this is,through the spread of education, man as a race can and will progress steadily toward material prosperity.S ection III WritingPart ADirections:Suppose you are manager of an accounting firm. One of your staff,Mr.Zhang Ying,is going to work in another firm.Write a letter of recommendation for him, including:1)why you write this letter,2)what you know about Mr.Zhang,3)what you think of his ability and personality. You should write about100words.Do not sign your own name at the end of the e“Liming”instead. You do not need to write the address.P art BD irections:A.Study the following picture carefully and write an essay in no less than160-200words.B.Your essay must be written clearly on ANSWER SHEET2.C.Your essay should meet the requirements below:1)Describe the following drawing, interpret its meaning,and2)Find the implications in our life.。

高中冲刺班高一英语作文High School Sprint Class: My Experience。
As a high school student, I have always strived to achieve academic excellence. However, I found myself struggling with English, especially when it came to writing essays and comprehending complex texts. That's when I decided to enroll in the high school sprint class for English, which proved to be a game-changer for me.The high school sprint class is a specialized program designed to help students improve their English skills in a short amount of time. The program is intensive and covers a wide range of topics, including grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and essay writing. The classes are taught by experienced teachers who are passionate about helping students succeed. At first, I was a bit apprehensive about joining the program. I was worried that the workload would be too muchfor me to handle, and that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace of the class. However, I soon realized that my fears were unfounded. The teachers were very supportive and encouraging, and they helped me to develop a strong foundation in English. One of the things that I appreciated about the program was the focus on practical skills. The teachers didn't just teach us the theory behind grammar and vocabulary; they also gave us plenty of opportunities to practice what we had learned. We did exercises, wrote essays, and read challenging texts. I found that this hands-on approach helped me to internalize the concepts more effectively.Another benefit of the program was the sense of community that it fostered. I met a lot of other students who were also struggling with English, and it was comforting to know that I wasn't alone. We worked together on group projects and shared our experiences and insights.I found that this collaborative environment helped me to stay motivated and engaged.Overall, I would say that my experience in the high school sprint class was extremely positive. The program helped me to overcome my weaknesses in English and gave me the confidence to tackle more challenging texts and assignments. I would highly recommend it to any high school student who is looking to improve their English skills.。

考研英语冲刺班作文多少分
考研英语冲刺班作文多少分As the final sprint of the postgraduate entrance examination approaches, many students choose to attend cram classes to improve their performance in various subjects. Among them, the cram class for English writing is particularly popular. In this essay, I will discuss the benefits and potential drawbacks of attending an English writing cram class, and provide some suggestions for students who plan to attend one.Firstly, attending an English writing cram class can greatly improve one's writing skills. In the classroom, students can learn from experienced teachers, who can provide them with guidance on grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure. They can also get feedback on their writing from their peers, which can help them identifytheir strengths and weaknesses and improve their writing accordingly. Moreover, the class can provide students with a structured and focused environment for writing practice, which can help them develop good writing habits andincrease their confidence in writing.Secondly, attending an English writing cram class can help students save time and effort. Instead of spending hours searching for useful materials and practicing writing on their own, students can get all the necessary resources and guidance in one place. This can help them make more efficient use of their time and energy, and avoid the frustration and confusion that often come with self-study.However, there are also potential drawbacks to attending an English writing cram class. For one thing, the class may not be suitable for students with different learning styles or levels of proficiency. Some students may find the class too fast-paced or too basic, while others may feel bored or unchallenged. Moreover, the class may not be able to address all the individual needs and preferences of each student, as the teacher has to cater to the needs of the whole class. To make the most of an English writing cram class, students should keep in mind the following tips. First, they should choose a class that suits their level of proficiency and learning style. They can ask for recommendations from their peers or teachers, or do some research online. Second, they should actively participate in the class and ask questions whenever they have doubts or difficulties. They should also take notes and review the materials and feedback they receive in class. Third, they should practice writing regularly outside of class, and seek feedback from their peers or teachers whenever possible. In conclusion, attending an English writing cram class can be a great way for students to improve their writing skills and save time and effort. However, students should also be aware of the potential drawbacks and take proactive measures to make the most of the class. By doing so, they can increase their chances of success in the postgraduate entrance examination and beyond.。

老夏考研英语作文预测
老夏考研英语作文预测As the year comes to an end, many students are preparing for the upcoming graduate entrance examination, commonly known as the "Gaokao". For many, the English language section of the exam is one of the most challenging aspects. In this essay, we will explore some possible topics for the English essay section of the Gaokao and provide some high-quality sample responses.1. The Impact of Technology on Education。
With the rapid development of technology, its impact on education has become increasingly significant. Some argue that technology has greatly improved the quality of education, making learning more interactive and engaging. However, others believe that excessive use of technology in the classroom may hinder students' ability to think critically and creatively. In my opinion, while technology has undoubtedly brought about many positive changes in education, it is crucial to strike a balance and ensurethat students still develop essential skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking.Sample Response:The impact of technology on education has been profound in recent years. With the advent of online learning platforms and interactive teaching tools, students now have access to a wealth of resources that were previously unavailable. This has undoubtedly enriched the learning experience and made education more accessible to a wider audience. However, it is important to recognize that technology should be used as a supplement to traditional teaching methods, rather than a replacement. While it can enhance the learning process, it is essential for students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through face-to-face interaction with teachers and peers.2. The Importance of Environmental Protection。

高中英语作文临考突击
高中英语作文临考突击High School English Essay Cramming for the Final ExamAs the final exam for high school English approaches, many students find themselves in a state of panic and anxiety. The pressure to perform well on this crucial assessment can be overwhelming, leading to a flurry of last-minute studying and cramming. However, this approach is often counterproductive and can actually hinder a student's ability to demonstrate their true understanding of the subject matter. In this essay, we will explore the challenges of high school English exam preparation and offer strategies for effective and efficient study habits. One of the primary challenges faced by students during the final exam cramming period is the sheer volume of material that must be covered. High school English curricula are typically broad and comprehensive, encompassing a wide range of literary genres, grammar rules, and writing techniques. Attempting to cram all of this information into a short period of time can be an exercise in futility, leading to a superficial understanding of the concepts and a highlikelihood of forgetting the material shortly after the exam. Moreover, the high-stakes nature of the final exam can exacerbate the stress and anxiety experienced by students. The pressure to perform well can lead to a state of panic, which can in turn impair cognitive function and hinder the ability to recall and apply the necessary knowledge. This vicious cycle can be difficult to break, and can ultimately result in subpar performance on the exam.To address these challenges, it is essential for students to adopt a more strategic and proactive approach to their exam preparation. Rather than relying solely on last-minute cramming, students should begin their study routine well in advance of the exam date. This allows them to gradually build a deeper understanding of the material, rather than simply memorizing facts and formulas. One effective strategy for high school English exam preparation is to focus on understanding the core concepts and principles, rather than simply memorizing isolated facts. This approach encourages students to develop a more holistic understanding of the subject matter, which can be more readily applied to a variety of exam questions and scenarios. Additionally, students should make use of practice tests and sample questions to familiarize themselves with the format and structure of the exam, and to identify areas where they may need additional support.Another key component of effective exam preparation is the development of strong study habits and time management skills. Students should allocate dedicated study time each day, and should prioritize the most challenging or unfamiliar material. Additionally, they should make use of a variety of study techniques, such as note-taking, flashcards, and group discussions, to reinforce their understanding of the material. In conclusion, the high school English final exam can be a daunting and stressful experience for many students. However, by adopting a proactive and strategic approach to their exam preparation, students can overcome these challenges and achieve success. By focusing on understanding the core concepts, developing strong study habits, and managing their time effectively, students can increase their chances of performing well on the exam and demonstrating their true mastery of the subject matter.。

Education has the ability to transform lives, open doors, and create opportunities. It is the key to personal growth and societal progress. However, the current education system is far from perfect. It is plagued by numerous challenges and shortcomings that need to be addressed. One of the biggest issues in the education system is the lack of resources. Many schools, especially those in rural areas, are severely underfunded and lack basic facilities such as libraries, laboratories, and computers. This puts students at a disadvantage and hinders their ability to learn and explore their interests. It is imperative that we invest more in education and provide schools with the necessary resources to create a conducive learning environment.Another problem is the emphasis on rote memorizationand standardized testing. The current education system places too much importance on memorizing facts and regurgitating them in exams. This approach stiflescreativity and critical thinking skills. Instead of encouraging students to think independently and develop their own ideas, it promotes conformity and a one-size-fits-all approach to learning. We need to shift our focus towards fostering a love for learning and developing skills that are relevant to the real world.Furthermore, there is a lack of qualified and motivated teachers. Teaching is a noble profession that requires dedication, passion, and expertise. However, many teachers are overworked, underpaid, and undervalued. This leads to a high turnover rate and a shortage of experienced educators. We need to attract and retain talented individuals in the teaching profession by providing them with better compensation, training, and support. In addition, there is a need for greater inclusivity and diversity in the education system. It is important that all students, regardless of their background, have equalaccess to quality education. This means providing supportfor students with disabilities, promoting gender equality, and embracing cultural diversity. By creating an inclusive and diverse learning environment, we can foster empathy, understanding, and tolerance among students.Lastly, there is a lack of emphasis on practical skills and real-world application of knowledge. The current education system focuses heavily on academic subjects and neglects the development of practical skills that are essential for success in the workforce. We need to incorporate more hands-on learning experiences, internships, and vocational training programs to prepare students forthe challenges of the real world. In conclusion, while education is a powerful tool for personal and societal development, the current education system is in need of reform. We need to address issues such as lack of resources, emphasis on rote memorization, shortage of qualified teachers, lack of inclusivity and diversity, and neglect of practical skills. By making these changes, we can create an education system that is trulytransformative and prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century.。
