Dear Sir,
Recent developments in Europe have led to an increasing awareness regarding Environmentally Relevant Substances within Philips Consumer Electronics. As your company is a supplier of components for our products, we would like to ask you the following:
-Please confirm that all articles supplied by your company’s production sites to Philips Consumer Electronics world wide do not contain substances that are on the Philips CE List of Banned Substances (see annexed list). For this purpose a declaration is attached to this letter.
-This declaration refers to Chain Responsibility: all articles that are supplied to your company, which become a part of the articles supplied to Philips Consumer Electronics must be evaluated. This means that you must ensure yourself that your suppliers refrain from using Banned Substances too.
When articles do contain banned substances (see annexed table for examples of applications), we would like you to fill in the annexed table, declaring:
-the type number of the article(s) containing banned substances;
-which banned substance is present in these articles, and in which amount;
-to which Philips Consumer Electronics factory the article is supplied;
-which corrective actions your company will take in order to phase out the use of the banned substance in articles supplied to Philips Consumer Electronics.
Please note that Philips Consumer Electronics could request proof regarding the statements presented in the Banned Substance Declaration.
In future we need more information on the chemical content of articles supplied to us. Besides banned substances, Philips Consumer Electronics has a list of environmentally relevant substances. You may already be aware of this, and also may have co-operated on this issue with us.

These substances are of importance to Philips Consumer Electronics as they generate problems at the End-of-Life of products, e.g.when recycling materials or high costs when incinerating materials. Besides this, a very important aspect is the negative influence which these substances have on our brand image. After completing the process of the banned substances, we will approach you for the environmentally relevant substances as well in a similar way.
We strongly request you to return a completed and signed Declaration within eight weeks to:
Philips Consumer Electronics
Environmental Competence Centre
Attn. Mr. H. Looren de Jong
Building SWA-4, PO Box 80002
5600 JB Eindhoven, The Netherlands
Or equivalently return the completed forms f.a.o. myself and I will make sure that our environmental competence centre in Eindhoven will receive the originals.
If anything is not clear, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be pleased to answer your questions. The telephone number of Mr. Looren de Jong is +31 – 40 – 27 35157 and his E-mail address is henny.loorendejong@.
