Place of birth, gender, race, history, nationality, language, ethnicity, stereotypes and aesthetics are all aspects of our lives that define us as a person. With so many different types of people and cultures in our world, someone can be defined by the color of his or her skin or the sound of their voice. Even if a person comes from one side of the world but lives on the other, they can be defined by their cultural identity and differences.Everyone who is born and raised on this earth has a cultural identity. With so many people populating our earth, there are hundreds of different identities that exist now, or have existed in the past. Our cultural identity and status in society are defined by many things, including family, religion, food, technology you use, occupation, clothes, and customs. These traits impact one’s life, define who they are and make them different from any other person in society.I was born in what has been called a traditional family with a father and a mother and their children.My dad was a high school graduate. I have enrolled in language classes to improve my proficiency in Mandarin and Hokkien, joined cultural clubs to learn traditional arts like lion dance and Chinese painting, and engaged in dialogues about Chinese history and philosophy. These endeavors not only deepen my understanding of my heritage but also empower me to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about Chinese culture.Reflecting on my personal ethnography, I realize that my cultural identity is dynamic, multifaceted, and constantly evolving. It is a product of my family's migration, my upbringing in a multicultural society, and my interactions with the globalmunity. While it can be challenging to reconcile the various aspects of my identity, I embrace thisplexity as a source of strength and resilience.Moving forward, I hope to continue nurturing my cultural roots while remaining open to new experiences and perspectives. As a global citizen, I aspire to contribute to cross-cultural understanding and promote a world where diversity is celebrated and respected.。

My Own Cultural IdentityWhat is cultural identity? I have been contemplating my own cultural identity and would like to explore exactly what it is that makes me, or anyone else for that matter, unique from anyone else in the world.Cultural Identity is formed through countless aspects of our everyday life. Place of birth, gender, race, history, nationality, language, ethnicity, stereotypes and aesthetics are all aspects of our lives that define us as a person. With so many different types of people and cultures in our world, someone can be defined by the color of his or her skin or the sound of their voice. Even if a person comes from one side of the world but lives on the other, they can be defined by their cultural identity and differences.Everyone who is born and raised on this earth has a cultural identity. With so many people populating our earth, there are hundreds of different identities that exist now, or have existed in the past. Our cultural identity and status in society are defined by many things, including family, religion, food, technology you use, occupation, clothes, and customs. These aspects of life define people of different cultures as a person. These traits impact one’s life, define who they are and make them different from any other person in society.I was born in what has been called a traditional family with a father and a mother and their children.My dad was a high school graduate. He loves reading. That made me an eager reader. Sometimes, we just sit in the same room and read our own books all the day without saying any words. Sometimes he would like to discuss something in the book with me. He wanted to know my ideas about the book or the writer. But there would always been arguments. We could have never been convinced by each other. W ell, it doesn’t matter. On the contrary, it madethe conversation more meaningful.My mom is a smart woman. Since I was very young, she thought me to keep everything in order. So, I keep my room tidy and clean all the time.What’s more, my p arents told me I should do everything right and not make bad friends. With their instructions, I have lived an observant life.When I was a little girl, I was told that I should follow the rules that my parents set for me invisibly. Besides, I should behave myself. Then I went to school and tried my best to study hard to get good marks.However, when I grew up, I was sort of rebel. I knew my own mind clearly. I thought I could do everything that I wanted to do. Then I argued with my parents about all that I have done. Finally, the result was obvious, I failed. But now, I realize what my parents have done is good for me.Actually, my parents’educational style is forced by the China’s traditional culture. The Chinese traditional Confucian culture emphasize “the cultivation of one’s moral character, the running of one’s family, the administration of a state, the peace and security of the world”. In this directional thought, my family education is bestowed on the direct social significance. In addition, the Chinese traditional culture also regards the family education and children's individual growth as the direct correlative causes and effects. I know my parents care about the reputation in educating us, thinking educating us to become a useful people. But if not, they may feel shameful.Rather than feeling devoid of a single culture, I started to see myself as a collection of fractions, borrowed from an infinite array of sources, which manifest themselves in my work as well as in the way I talk, eat, dress and act.This is not an apology. On the contrary, it is a realization that I have access to, and more importantly, appreciation of all these things that I admire and acknowledge as compelling. I do not try to “become” a n intellectual. Instead, I absorb facets, consciously or not, into what I hope is my own unique mixture.As a young girl, I'd like to keep pace with my age and learn as much knowledge as possible to be literate. I believe that my dream can come true if I have courage to pursue them .When I was young, my father always asked me what I would be in the future. Sometimes I found it very hard to give a certain reply. “I want to be a doctor.” “I want to be a teacher.” and “I’d like to be a scientist!” Many of these answers are perhaps very childish and ridiculous. But I never think they are far away.How time flies! I know clearly that those high buildings are based on solid foundation. As a student, I should have a reasonable dream, and study hard. My dream is to be a successful businesswoman. I know it’s hard, but I will come across many difficulties and frustrations. But no matter what they are, I’ll keep working on it and never give up. My teacher says there is only one kind of people that are truly successful: those who are brave enough to put up with hardships.E ven if I won’t achieve the goal, I have no regrets for what I have done, for I have struggled for my life.The development of my cultural identity has not easily evolved. There were many times I was confused, even rejecting parts of my inherited culture. However, I have learned that my cultural identity is a blessing. Now, I love the culture that I learn. I can view life situations from different perspectives, giving me a broader scope of the "big picture."。
