One midsummer dawn when I was nine, we drove to the local park with our baseballs and gloves.“Morning air carries the ball like you’ve never seen.” Dad told me. He was right. Our fastballs went faster and landed more lightly. The park was all ours for two hours. Then a young mother pushed her stroller toward us. Dad politely approached and gave the baby his best smile. The mother stared at him and then rushed away. Dad covered his mouth with his hand and walked to the car.A month earlier, Bell’s palsy (贝尔氏神经麻痹) had struck Dad, paralyzing the right side of his face and leaving him vague words. He could hardly drink from a cup without spilling onto his shirt. His calmness makes it easy to forget that he’s tracking one of the most dangerous animals in the world. Kasaine is tracking lions—especially one lion called Marti, who is the real-life Lion King of Selenkay Conservancy.Tracking lions on foot may sound like a death wish, but Kasaine has been doing it for most of his life. Born into a traditional Maasai family he quickly grew to understand the beauty and danger of wildlife. Living with big wild animals forces him to develop a good sense of where they have been and where they may be going. During his 12-kilometer walks to and from school, he learned how to tell the paw prints (爪印)of a lion from those of other animals.Growing up, Kasaine knew that improving his tracking abilities would help him avoid surprise meetings with dangerous animals. For many Maasai, tracking is mainly a matter of self-protection. But Kasaine is tracking lions to meet them and to protect them. He leads a small group of wide-eyed tourists over the red sandy path, searching for the lion that has left upon it his prints. Each year, thousands of tourists crowd Kenya’s national parks to tr y to have a look at the"big five”; elephants, rhinoceros, leopards, buffaloes and lions. The international draw of these animals matters a lot because the nation’s economy is tied to the protection of its wildlife. If Kenya’s wildlife disappears, so does i ts second-largest source of income.Wildlife protection efforts in Kenya meant marking off land exclusively(专门地)for animals. But it also meant that the people who had originally lived in the area were forced to leave their land and into smaller surrounding areas, They are also finding it increasingly hard to keep a traditional Maasai lifestyle. But people are glad that it really makes a difference to wildlife protection.28.How did Kasaine track lions?A. By working together with tourists.B. By running after them all the time.C. By going to school every day.D. By studying their paw prints.29.What can we learn from Paragraph 4?A. Maasai people are born animal lovers.B. Tourism is a big threat to Kenya’s wildlife.C. Kenya benefits a lot from its wildlife protection.D. Small animals are not included in their protection policy.30.What does the underlined word "it” in the last paragraph refer to?A. Kenya’s economic development.B. People’s leaving their original homes.C. Kenya’s second-largest income source.D. Kenyan people’s traditional Maasai lifestyle.31.What is the best title for the text?A. Wildlife protection in KenyaB. Meeting a dangerous animalC. Wilson Kasaine’s wise choiceD. Learning to live with lionsDWho could have imagined that a treadmill(跑步机)on wheels would one day become a thing? Lopifit is an unusual means of transportation that allows you to power an electric bicycle by walking on a treadmill.Lopifit founder Bruin Bergmeester says it all started when he asked himself the question. "How can I use a treadmill outdoors?" He eventually came up with a design, to which he added an electric engine, and Lopifit was born. The treadmill bicycle is similar to a typical electric bicycle in that the motor only works when the rider puts power in as well. The Lopifit senses it when you walk on the treadmill and uses the motor to turn a drive chain at the back part of the treadmill, helping you reach a top speed of 17 miles per hour.To use the Lopifit, simply turn on the battery and use your feet to slide the treadmill backwards and activate (激活) the motor. Then get on and enjoy the ride! If you need speed, just walk on the treadmill, and if you want to coast, all you have to do is stay still and admire the view. To stop, you have two hand brakes available. The Lopifit first hit the streets in 2014 and, unsurprisingly, became an instanthit. That was actually quite challenging for the company, because it started get inquiries and calls for orders, but it was nowhere near ready for mass production. The unique treadmill bicycle became available this year, and Lopifit is struggling to keep up with demand, despite the high price tag of $ 2,115.But despite having a very loyal fan-base of so-called Lopifitters, the creative means of transportation also has naysayers who simply consider the invention stupid and unnecessary. They basically believe that if you’re going to walk, you might as well do it the old-fashioned way. But the Lopifit does have the unique advantage of helping you walk really fast without breaking a sweat, or walking at cycling speed, if you will.32. With the help of Lopifit, you can ________.A. cycle to work by walkingB. offer power to any bicycleC. create a treadmill on wheelsD. answer some hard questions33. From the second paragraph, we can learn ________.A. how Lopifit was createdB. where Lopifit can be usedC. who Lopifi t is intended forD. which design is suitable for Lopifit34. What can be learned from the fourth paragraph?A. Lopifit was cheap and available in 2014.B. Lopifit always broke down on the streets.C. It was hard for the company to design Lopifit.D. The supply of Lopifit failed to meet the de mand.35. How do the public react to Lopifit?A. Positively.B. Variously.C. Angrily.D. Cautiously.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)It’s an unquestioned truth of modern life: we are starved for time. We try our best to save bits of time here and there. Add it up, and we will finally get to everything we want to do. But this idea has been completely backward. 36 We build the lives we want, and then time saves itself.Do we really have no time? “ I don’t have time,” often means “It’s not apriority(优先事项).” Time is highly flexible. We cannot make more time. However, time will stretch(延展)to accommoda te what we choose to put into it. No one will leavethe broken water heater aside. So not doing something is not a matter of lacking time;37 Actually, it’s a matter of choice. How do we treat our priorities? First, we need to figure out what our priorities are. Actually we may give ourselves a performance review. What three to five thingsdid we do that made it so amazing? Next, we can write them into next year’s performance review. We will have a li st of six to ten goals we can work on in the next year. 38 .39 Scientists find a really good time to do this is Friday afternoon. Friday afternoon is what an economist might call a “low opportunity cost” time. Most ofus are not sitting there on Friday afternoon saying,” But we are willi ng to think about what those should be. So take a little bit of time Friday afternoon, and make ourselves a three-category priority list: career, relationships, self. It’s about looking at the whole of one’s time and seeing where the good aspectscan go. There is time. 40 . And when we focus on what matters, we can build the lives we want in the time we’ve got.A. it’s that I’m too busy for it.B. it’s that I don’t want to do it.C. When do we plan our priorities?D. Make sur e there’s time for the important things.E. We don’t build the lives we want by saving time.F. Even if we are busy, we have time for what matters.G. And then we need to break these down into doable steps.第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

Kindergarten students are typically four or five years of age.In class, they are introduced to the alphabet, numbers and colors; they study their bodies, their families, and their communities;they listen to stories and read aloud; they make art projects; and they learn about holidays, plants, animals, and other topics in science and social studies. Some kindergartens also teach introductory reading and mathematical skills.Kindergartens tend to offer children a foundation for the development of social skills,self-confidence,motivation,and the process of knowing. The first kindergarten was started by German educator Friedrich Froebel in 177 in Blankenburg,Prussia(now part of German).Froebel chose the German term kindergarten(children’s garden) because he intended children in his school to grow as freely as flowers in a garden.Froebel’s kindergarten was based on the idea that children’s play was s ignificant. At the time, almost no children under the age of seven attended school, but Froebel designed his kindergarten for children between the ages of three and seven. The kindergarten became widely admired for its revolutionary teaching methods, and Froebe l’s followers soon established other kindergartens based on his educational philosophy.Froebel developed his own ideas about education by combining his belief in scientific observation with his belief in the interconnection of all things. In addition,Froebel was concerned that the spread of industrialization would negatively affect the family, but he b elieved that kindergartens could increase the status of mothers and children.Froebel’ s ideas became increasingly popular in the 180s,but because kindergartens were associated with liberalism(自由主义) andfree-thinking,they were banned by the Prussian government after the failure of the liberal revolution of 188.Basic factsabout kindergarten 1. ofkindergartenstudentsFour or five yearsThings to belearnt in akindergarten●They’re introduced to thealphabet, numbers, and colors;they study theirbodies, their families, and their communities.●They listen to stories and read aloud;theymake art projects.●They learn aboutholidays, plants, animals, and other topics inscience and social st udies.●Some kindergartens also teach introductory2. and m athematical skills.续表Basic factsabout kindergartenRoles ofkindergarten●It offers children a foundation to 3.their social skills,self-confidence,motivationand the process of knowing.Details about the first kindergarten ●German educator Friedrich Froebel was the 4.of the firstkindergarten.●Froebel chose the name because he wanted kids to grow5. .●His kindergarten was based on the idea that children’s 6.was significant.●The kindergarten was well 7. for its revolutionaryteaching methods.Froebel’s ideas about 8.●He 9. his belief in scientific observation with hisbelief in the interconnection of all things.●Froebel was concerned that the spread of industrialization wouldhave 10. effects on the family.●Kindergartens could increase the status of mothers and children.答案及剖析:1.Age 信息综合题。
