then everyone seemed to be riding a lions of them, all black.Cars were rare.Yet since my arrival in Beijing last year,I've found the opposite is true. There are millions of cars. However, people still use their bicycles to get around. For many,it's the easiest and cheapest way to travel today.Bicycles also come in different colors-silver,green,red,blue,yellow,whatever you want. It's fun watching people biking. They rush quickly through crossroads, move skillfully through traffic, and ride even on sidewalks (人行道).Bicycles allow people the freedom to move about that cars just can't provide.Eager to be part of this aspect of Chinese culture,I decided to buy a bicycle.Great weather accompanied my great buy.I immediately jumped up on my bicycle seat and started home.My first ride home was orderly (守秩序的).To be safe,I stayed with a “pack”of bikers while cars on the streets came running swiftly out of nowhere at times.I didn't want to get hit.So I took the ride carefully.Crossing the streets was the biggest problem. It was a lot like crossing a major highway back in the United States. The streets here were wide,so crossing took time, skill and a little bit of luck.I finally made it home. The feeling on the bicycle was amazing. The air hitting my face and going through my hair was wonderful.I was sitting on top of the world as I passed by places and people.Biking made me feel alive.31.According to the author, why are bicycles still popular in China today?A.Because they are traditional and safe.B.Because they are convenient and inexpensive.C.Because they are colorful and available.D.Because they are fast and environment friendly.32.The author decided to buy a bicycle because he intended ________.A.to ride it for funB.to use it for transportC.to experience local cultureD.to improve his riding skills33.How did the author feel about his street crossing?A.It was boring. B.It was difficult.C.It was lively. D.It was wonderful.34.Which of the following best describes the author's biking experience?A.The author enjoyed showing off his biking skills.B.The author was annoyed by the air while riding.C.The author was praised by the other bikers.D.The author took great pleasure in biking.BMany kids are too busy to have time to play creatively or relax after school.Kids who complain about the number of activities they're involved in or refuse to go to them may be a sign that they're burdened with stress. How can you help kids deal with stress?Proper rest and good nutrition can improve such skills,as can good parenting.Make time for your kids each day.Whether they need to talk or just be in the same room with you, make yourself available.Even as kids get older, quality time is important. It's really hard for some people to come home after work, get down on the floor, and play with their kids or just talk to them about their day—especially if they've had a stressful day themselves. But expressing interest in your kids' days shows that they're important to you.Help your child deal with stress by talking about what may be causing it.Together, you can come up with a few solutions like cutting_back_on afterschool activities, spending more time talking with parents or teachers, developing an exercise habit,or keeping a journal. You can also help by anticipating(期待)potentially stressful situations and preparing kids for them. For example, let a child know ahead of time (but not toofar ahead of time)that a doctor's appointment is coming up and talk about what will happen there.Keep in mind, though, that younger kids probably won't need too much advance preparation.Too much information can cause more stress-reassurance(放心)is the key.Remember that some level of stress is normal;let kids know that it's OK to feel angry, scared, lonely,or anxious and that other people share those feelings.35.The passage is mainly written for ________.A.parents B.teachersC.kids D.doctors36.You can do the following to help reduce children's stress EXCEPT ________.A.making yourself availableB.showing interest in kids' daysC.reminding them some stress is OKD.trying to offer more information37.The underlined “cutting back on” in the fourth paragraph probably means ________.A.reducing B.increasingC.creating D.expecting38.The purpose of the passage is ________.A.to find out the sources of stressB.to offer tips on dealing with stressC.to give advice on how to relaxD.to explain why stress is harmfulCYou may be fascinated with pictures of animals in the wild. You might have imagined yourself taking pictures of animals that are rarely seen in the city.If you do get that chance, you may want to consider the following tips or rules.First of all,a lot of professional photographers give respect to these animals and the environment they are in.Just remember that you should respect the animals and the environment in case these animals bite or hurt you.Keep in mind that you are taking pictures of real, live, wild animals.A wild animal may bite to protect itself. You must be sensitive while taking their pictures and be gentle in all your movements.Do not feed the animals,or interact with animals that are sleeping or caring for their young. If you will be going to a place where it is privately (私人)owned, you'd better get the owner's permission first before you start taking pictures.Change the flash of your camera to natural light,so the animals will not be frightened or surprised when you start shooting.Animals do not react well when they are surprised.Be very patient.Make sure you are aware of the changes in behavior of the animal and its moods.Be familiar with the animals' natural habitat. Now if those rules are clear,it is time for planning.Consider the weather;some animals do not go out when it is raining while some animals love the rain. Therefore,a little research on the weather will not hurt. You should consider taking pictures after sunrise and before sunset. Now if the animal is nocturnal (夜间活动的),then you should prepare to battle not only the wild but also the darkness. An adventure in the wild will make you very excited. However, you should be well equipped, have experts to back you up,and also a permit for doing the photo shoot. If you do not have any of these, then maybe you should consider visiting the zoo instead.39.The main purpose of the author in writing this passage is________.A.to call for us to protect animalsB.to show where to buy pictures of animalsC.to explain how to get along with wild animalsD.to give us tips on taking pictures of animals in the wild40.We can infer from the passage that________.A.most animals love being taken pictures ofB.we have to finish the pictures before sunsetC.we'd better take pictures when the animals are sleepingD.we should pay attention to the animals' moods when taking pictures41.What preparation should you do before going to take photos of wild animals?①Preparing some food to feed the animals.②Asking experts for advice.③Knowing the weather in the animals' habitat.④Getting a permit for taking photos of wild animals.A.①②④B.②③④C.①②③D.①③④DFor art fans planning to spend a few days the world, and the National Gallery has one of them.It was painted to decorate the room of his friend Paul Gauguin, whom he was living with at the time. The collection of paintings is said to represent illusion.Bent stripes, called chevrons(人字形),painted on the roads make drivers think that they are driving faster than they really are,and thus drivers slow down. Now the American Automobile Association Foundation for Traffic Safety in Washington D.C.is planning to repeat Japan's success.Starting next year, the Foundation will paint chevrons and other patterns of stripes on selected roads around the country to test how well the patterns reduce highway crashes.Excessive speed plays a major role in as much as one fifth of all fatal traffic accidents, according to the Foundation. To help reduce those accidents, the Foundation will conduct its tests in areas where speed-related hazards(危险)are the greatest -curves,exit slopes, traffic circles, and bridges. Some studies suggest that straight, horizontal bars painted across roads can at first cut the average speed of drivers in half. However, traffic often returns to full speed within months as drivers become used to seeing the painted bar.Chevrons, scientists say,not only give drives the impression that they are driving faster than they really are but also make a lane appear to be narrower. The result is a longer lasting reduction in highway speed and the number of traffic accidents.46.The passage mainly discusses ________.A.a new way of highway speed controlB.a new pattern for painting highwaysC.a new approach to training driversD.a new type of optical illusion47.On roads painted with chevrons, drivers tend to feel ________.A.they should avoid speed-related hazardsB.they are driving in the wrong laneC.they should slow road signs across the countryC.replace straight, horizontal bars with chevronsD.repeat the Japanese road patterns49.What does the author say about straight, horizontal bars painted across roads?A.They are falling out of use in the US.B.They are applicable only on broad roads.C.They cannot be applied successfully to traffic rules.D.They tend to be ignored by drivers in a short period of time.50.The
