Ways to stimulate children's interest in learning Intrinsic motivation, also known as natural curiosity, is key to children's learning. These inquisitive beings are more likely to excel when they find learning fun and important. On the other hand, extrinsic motivation, such as rewards and punishment, is not as effective with younger students. Therefore, experts suggest allowing children some degree of autonomy and freedom in their learning. When trying to stimulate a child's interest in reading, let them choose which books they want to read. It doesn't matter if it's a graphic novel, TV guide, or classic literature, as long as their appetite for reading is being stimulated. Additionally, building a relationship with the child as learners is crucial. Listen to their negative feelings about certain activities and explain why they are valuable, even if not exactly enjoyable. It may be time to abandon the use of threats and rewards and instead give children more choice in how they learn. Bystimulating their intrinsic motivation and allowing them to view their learning as their own free will, children can become more engaged in their education.【重点词汇】1. intrinsic [ɪnˈtrɪnsɪk] adj. 19. If you go shopping in any toy store, you can see clearly the different games and toys for boys and girls: there are a lot of pink toys on one side of the store for girls; and dark colored cars, guns, and soldiers for boys. Some big stores with toys may even have a pink floor for girls and a blue floor for boys. In fact, it is difficult to buy a toy for a girl that is not pink. Some people think that too much pink is bad for girls. Sue Palmer, writer of Toxic Childhood, is very worried that most girls over the age of three are crazy about the color. According to some scientists, this happens for two reasons. Firstly, most companies offer too many products in pink. Also, many parents think their little daughter looks cute in pink. Sue Palmer says that girls at this age cannot make proper decisions by themselves, but the pink can affect (影响)the choices and the decisions they will make in the future. Some parents are worried too-for example, Vanessa Holburn, thirty-two, who has two girls under the age of four. Their bedrooms are a sea of pink and Vanessa is not happy. "Pink says that you are soft and gentle. Blue says that you are strong and powerful. I want my daughters to be strong and powerful. I'm worried that pink will not help them with that," she says. But not everyone thinks there's something wrong with pink. Grayson Turner is a father of three girls and he isn't worried at all. "People forget that things change all the time," he says. "My girls used to love pink when they were little, but as they get older, they change." Turner explains that his twelve-year-old daughter never wears pink clothes anymore. "This love of pink is just a fashion and all fashions change," he adds. "It's only since the 1940s that people have started dressing girls in pink-before that it was a color for boys."(1)Which of the following best shows the structure-of-the passage?A.
1My Book Report on the Lidistar English Storybooks for 3rd GradeHello everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a 3rd grade student. Today I want to share my thoughts on the Lidistar English Storybooks that we've been reading in class this year. These books have been so much fun and I've learned a ton of new words and ideas from them. Let me tell you all about my favorite stories! The first book I really enjoyed was "The Curious Kitten." It's about this cute little kitten named Coco who is always getting into trouble because she's so curious about everything around her. In one story, Coco follows a cute little mouse into a hole in the wall and gets lost in the house's air vents! My favorite part was when Coco's owner Jennifer had to call the fire department to rescue Coco from the vents. I learned some great vocabulary from this book like "mischievous," "vent," and "rescue." The pictures were so bright and colorful too. I loved seeing Coco'scute little face peeking out from all the funny places she explored!Another book I liked was called "The Mighty Dinosaurs." This one had facts about different dinosaur species along with fun stories about them. I thought the Tyrannosaurus Rex sounded so cool - I can't believe how big it was! The book described its "massive head" and "dagger-like teeth." I definitely wouldn't want to meet that dinosaur in real life! But my favorite dinosaur was probably the Diplodocus with its really long neck. The story was about a Diplodocus trying to get water from a pool when some mean Tyrannosaurus brothers started bullying him. In the end, the Diplodocus used his long neck to drink from a different pool the bullies couldn't reach. It was a great lesson about being kind and not underestimating others. My absolute favorite book from the series, though, was "Ava's Awesome Adventures." It's about this girl named Ava who loves science and goes on these crazy adventures every night when she's dreaming. One story took her to the depths of the ocean in a submarine where she discovered crazy creatures like the anglerfish and the vampire squid. Another adventure was in outer space where Ava got to walk on Mars and see the planet's rusty red surface! I learned so many interesting facts aboutscience from these stories. My favorite adventure was probably when Ava went back in time to the era of the dinosaurs. She even got to ride on the back of a Triceratops! How cool is that? I really admire Ava and hope I can be an awesome scientist like her one day.Overall, I absolutely loved reading the Lidistar English Storybooks this year. The vocabulary was challenging in a good way that really helped expand my English skills. And the stories themselves were just so imaginative and fun! I looked forward to reading them every week. I feel like I know so much more about science, history, and the world around me from these books. Not only that, but they taught great lessons about being kind, brave, and curious like the characters in the stories. I'm really going to miss Ava, Coco, and my other friends from these books when I move onto 4th grade next year. I just hope we get to read more awesome stories like these!篇2Book Report on Lively Polaris English Picture Book for 3rd GradeHi everyone! My name is Emily and I'm a 3rd grader at Maple Grove Elementary School. Today I want to tell you all about theawesome English picture book series we've been reading in class called Lively Polaris. It's been so much fun and I've learned a ton of new English vocabulary and grammar! The Lively Polaris books follow the adventures of Polaris, who is a super cute and friendly polar bear cub. In the first book, Polaris is just born on the Arctic ice and is still learning about the world around him. His mom has to teach him all the basics like how to swim, hunt for food, and stay warm in the freezing temperatures. I learned some great words from this book like "glaciers", "icebergs", and "blubber". My favorite part was when Polaris tried to catch a fish for the first time - he was so clumsy and kept falling into the icy water! As the series goes on, Polaris grows up and has all kinds of exciting adventures. In one book, he gets separated from his mom during a big blizzard and has to find his way back home. Another book is about Polaris making friends with an Inuit girl named Nauja who teaches him about her culture and traditions. I thought that was really interesting to learn about a different way of life. What I love most about these books is how the stories are simple enough for me to easily understand, but they also teach more advanced English concepts. All of the text is written just inEnglish with no Chinese translations. At the back, there is a English-Chinese glossary that defines the harder vocabulary words. So if I come across a word I don't know, I can just flip to the back to see what it means. The pictures in the books are amazing too! They are all hand-drawn and so vivid and colorful. The illustrations really bring the Arctic setting to life. I can see the sparkling white snow, the bright northern lights dancing across the sky, and Polaris' shiny black nose and cute furry body. The pictures definitely make the stories even more fun and engaging to read.Because the books are all in English, they have definitely helped me improve my reading, writing, and speaking abilities. My English teacher always has us read the books out loud and then discusses the plots and vocabulary with us. We also have to write short book summaries and answer comprehension questions about each story. It's a great way to practice all the English skills I'm learning.I really like how the Lively Polaris books make learning English feel like an adventure instead of just boring studying from a textbook. Following along with Polaris' exciting journey across the Arctic makes me excited to pick up the next book and see what he does next. The stories are so imaginative and fun!At the same time, the books teach some good lessons too. Polaris and his friends show qualities like bravery, loyalty, resilience, and resourcefulness as they face challenges like harsh blizzards, encounters with predators, and times when they get lost and have to find their way. Polaris learns that if he keeps trying his best and doesn't give up, he can overcome any obstacle. I think that's an important message for kids like me to learn.Overall, I give the Lively Polaris English Picture Book series two thumbs up! The books have been such an entertaining and effective way for me to build up my English proficiency this school year. I can't wait to read more adventures about Polaris and his Arctic world. I'd highly recommend these books to any of my fellow students looking to improve their English in a really engaging way. The cute pictures and charming stories make the learning process fly by. Thanks for reading my book report!篇3Book Report on Lively Polaris English Picture Book for 3rd GradeWow, what a totally awesome book the Lively Polaris English Picture Book for 3rd Grade is! I just finished reading it and I'm soexcited to tell you all about it. This book is definitely one of the highlights of being a 3rd grader. The book starts off by introducing us to a group of friends - Polaris the penguin, Aurora the arctic fox, Blizzard the polar bear, and Flurry the snowy owl. They live together in the amazing Arctic region. Even though it's cold, everything is covered in beautiful white snow and there are the most breathtaking views of the northern lights dancing across the night sky. The pictures in the book make you feel like you're really there!Polaris is super curious and loves learning about new things. One day, he convinces his friends that they should go explore and have an adventure to learn more about the Arctic. At first, Aurora is a little nervous because it's freezing outside their warm igloo. But Blizzard and Flurry are really excited and manage to get everyone on board. So off they go, on an epic journey around the Arctic! Along the way, they meet different Arctic animals like walruses, seals, whales, reindeer, and wolves. Each animal friend teaches them something new and interesting about life in the Arctic. Like did you know polar bears actually have hollow transparent fur that looks white but also allows heat from the sun to get to their skin? So cool! Not only do they learn facts, but they also experiencefirst-hand how challenging yet amazing surviving in the Arctic can be. One time, they got stuck on an ice floe that broke off from the main ice sheet. They had to huddle together and wait to be rescued by a kind whale that could tow them back. Another time, Flurry got her wing felt stuck in a crack in the ice. Thankfully, they were able to free her by melting the ice around it. Phew, that was a close one!My favorite part was when the northern lights started dancing in the sky. All the colors were so vivid and mesmerizing. Aurora taught her friends that the lights are created by particles from the sun interacting with gases in the Earth's atmosphere. I'd love to see them for real one day!Throughout all their adventures, the four friends learned that even though the Arctic seems like a harsh, desolate place, it's teeming with life and beauty if you know where to look. They grew so much closer and developed a deep appreciation for their home. By working together as a team, they were able to overcome any obstacles. Friendship is one of the warmest things that gets you through even the coldest nights. In the end, exhausted but happy, they made it back to their igloo, closer than ever. As Polaris said, "The Arctic is anextraordinary place. And I'm so grateful to be able to call it home with you as my friends." It was such a heartwarming moment!I totally recommend this book to anyone, not just 3rd graders! The pictures are gorgeous, the story is exciting and educational, and the characters are just so lovable. You'll come away learning all about what life is like in the Arctic while also seeing the powerful importance of friendship, curiosity, and having an open mind to new experiences. Books don't get much better than this! Two thumbs up from me.。

专题07 阅读理解之议论文(2022秋·广东肇庆·九年级校考期中)Scientists found that people who have fewer friends in real life are happier than those who have plenty of friends.Researchers from the University of Leeds, UK, studied data from two online surveys of nearly 1,500 people. Those who took part in the survey gave details (细节) about their ages, social interactions (社交活动), and how satisfied they were with their social lives. The researchers found that those who had a small number of close friends generally were happier than those who had a large number of superficial (表面的) friends.“Loneliness has less to do with the number of friends you have, and more to do with how you feel about your friends,” said Wandi Bruine, one of the researchers.Bruine found that older people had smaller social circles than young people, but the people in these circles were closer to them. Younger people, on the other hand, had bigger circles that were made up of “peripheral (次要的) others”—people who are not true friends, but just people they know. These socalled friends didn’t affect younger people’s happiness. The results of the study showed that the stereotypes (偏见) society had about old people being sad and lonely might not be right.“The research shows that older people’s smaller social circles didn’t have a bad effect on social satisfaction and happiness. In fact, older people had a better feeling of happiness than younger people,” said Brine.Based on these results, the study believes that people should pay more attention to the ties with close friends instead of increasing the number of friends.1.According to the study, people may be happier when they ________.A.have a lot of followers on social media B.are satisfied with their work and livesC.make friends with people who are older D.have a small circle of friends2.(新题型) The underlined word “affect” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.A.matter B.hurt C.influence D.discover3.What can we know from Paragraphs 4 and 5?A.Older people have closer friends than young people.B.Young people don’t need to make peripheral friends.C.Older people’s happiness has nothing to do with their friends.D.Both old and young people find it hard to make friends.4.According to the passage, Bruine thought the older people were ________.A.nervous B.happy C.lonely D.sad5.The passage mainly talks about ________.A.different types of friendsB.changes in people’s happiness levelsC.the relationship between happiness and the number of friendsD.interactions between old and young people(2022秋·广东佛山·九年级校考期中)Everyone lives in social groups from the day they were born. In the family, there are parents and relatives. In the school, there are teachers and classmates. At work, there are teammates and leaders.Often, some small things may lead to misunderstandings(误会). Then the relationship(关系) between each other may get worse and worse. However, if we can stand in others’ shoes, we may understand other people’s feelings, and then things will be solved. So how to treat and deal with the relationship correctly bees more important. In society, understanding other people can help us see and understand situations in a different way. Learning some basic skills can help us understand each other better. Understanding others is influenced(被影响) by feelings. This means that if a person is happy, he’ll be more willing to help and understand others. But if a person feels angry, he is less likely to want to understand other people.Listening is one of the best ways to understand others better. If someone is talking, listen carefully. This will make him or her feel good. He or she will be more likely to share the problems with you. Sometimes, we only care our individual opinions, so we think everything we say is correct. No matter what others say, we just refuse to listen. As a result, we won’t understand others. No matter what kind of roles we are in society, when having different opinions or meeting difficulties, we should keep calm to think about the situation we’re facing. Well, maybe you should first learn something about the struggles (斗争) of great scientists. The American Psychological Association (美国心理学会) did a study. More than 400 students in New York City took part in it. The students were divided into three groups. Group 1 read a typical textbook that describes the achievements of great Scientists. Group 2 read about those scientists personal struggles. For example, as a Jew, Einstein escaped from Nazi Germany to avoid being killed. Group 3 read about the scientists’ intellectual (智力的) struggles, such as Marie Curie’s tailed experiments. These stories about struggles also told students how the scientists dealt with these problems. The students took a science test before the study. After the sixweek study, they took another. Scientists found those in Groups 2 and 3 improved their science grades. Students in Group 1 didn’t see a grade increase. Some of them even had lower grades after the study. The study was led by Xiaodong Lin Siegler, a professor. According to Xiaodong, kids often think Einstein was born a genius. They believe they will never match him. Many of them fail to realize that any success requires a long journey. Along the way, there are many failures.Students who read the struggle stories were more likely to say great scientists were like themselves. The “greatminds” also had to solve problems to achieve success.Xiaodong says today’s science textbooks fail to bring science to life. As a result, students hardly consider science as part of their everyday lives. Instead, they just see a long list of facts that they have to remember. Xiaodong thinks textbooks should include more stories about how great scientists had to struggle to succeed. And they should pay more attention to how these scientists responded to the problems they met along the way. 11.According to the passage, we can improve our physics and chemistry grades by ________.A.reading the achievements of great scientists more carefullyB.listening more carefully to our physics and chemistry teachersC.learning about the difficulties that great scientists once experiencedD.spending more time remembering the lists of facts in our science textbooks12.Who took part in the study held by the American Psychological Association?A.Students who went to schools in New York City.B.Students who Studied in secondary school.C.Students who were interested in physics and chemistry.D.Students who were poor at physics and chemistry grades.13.According to the last paragraph, Xiaodong thinks that ________.A.Today’s science textbooks bring much science to lifeB.Students should study harder to bee a great scientist.C.Students only need to remember a long list of facts.D.It is meaningful to learn how scientists struggle to succeed.14.Where can we probably find this passage?A.A novel.B.A fashion magazine.C.A story book.D.An education website.(2022春·江苏南通·九年级校联考期中)A phenomenon known as “kuakuaqun” or “praise group” has taken Chinese social media by storm. The number of topics like this on Weibo has reached more than 23 million. Users can join a chat group on WeChat or QQ, where they are showered with varieties of generous praise and encouragement.Just imagine the scenes: You get an A in an exam and you want to get some praise. When you post it into a praise group, you are praised for not only your efforts but also being as clever as Albert Einstein. It’s 10 p.m. and you are the only person in the office. You receive a reply, “You are so hardworking! You’ll definitely get a higherposition! Praise to you!” Even if you go to a toilet and forget taking some tissue, someone points out that “you’re caring about trees and the environment! Good for you!”How would you feel? The appearance of “praise groups” provides an opportunity for ordinary people who cannot get positive feedback easily in their daily life to get fort from their hears. It also shows the life and social pressure of today’s young people. Moreover, the popularity of these chat groups is a reflection of Chinese culture which values modesty and humility—people often hide their true emotion of seeking and giving praise. As long as people’s praise doesn’t sound obviously untruthful, you’re likely to wele it. Sometimes, people enjoy praising others as well, just because here they can drop everything and have fun by giving lavish(夸张的) ments. However, some people are also willing to encourage and support others from their hearts. Some netizens(网民) shared their ideas, “I take it as a way of adjusting the mood. The praise group helps in adding our confidence. Some sincere praises can even be inspiring(鼓舞人心的). However, if you’re really in trouble, it is you who holds the final key.” Clearly, some dishonest praise es at a cost. Chen Kan, an professor in Fudan University’s psychology department warned that “The biggest risk is to continue to stress on the ‘false self’, which makes it harder to see the ‘true self’. In the end, people in the group will find that such unreasonable praise doesn’t help solve the real problem. Soon the whole group will be silent and dead.”Perhaps the praise groups are “a flash in the pan”, which might disappear sooner or later. No matter how you think of it, only when you can understand the pressure. criticism and praise correctly, will you face them bravely. Don’t lose yourself in others’ voices—that is what really matters.15.The writer mentions the examples in Paragraph 2 to show ________.A.who wants to join “praise groups”B.how people can join “praise groups”C.what people can get from “praise groups”D.when people need to join “praise groups”16.Why do people like to join “praise groups”?A.To hide real feelings of themselves.B.To ask for suggestions from others.C.To express the values of their own.D.To get fort and be encouraged.17.According to the passage, the writer may agree that ________.A.we should see ourselves correctly and positivelyB.praise group is effective for dealing with troublesC.we should speak highly of others to please each otherD.praise group is necessary for building selfconfidence18.Which is the best title for the passage?A.“Praise Group”: Is it worth giving it a try?B.“Praise Group”: Does it help to know yourself?C.“Praise Group”: Is it important to praise others?D.“Praise Group”: Does it change your personality?(2022春·安徽宿州·九年级统考期中)Everyone has dreams and goals for the future. When they get tired waiting and lose a lot, they get bored.I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula:Dream >Believe >Act >AchieveFor me, act is the most important thing for success, and that’s to Take Persistent Action(Act). “I’ll try” creates wonders. Let’s remember that there will be difficulties in our life. We must face them bravely and solve them. Most successful people made their dreams e true because of their persistent action. Please remember: Action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.19.What should you do when you find your lessons very hard?A.Ask people for help B.Try and keep tryingC.Get ready to create wonders D.Prepare for a harder one20.Why does the writer use the formula “Dream >Believe >Act >Achieve” ?A.To support his idea.B.To ask readers to explain it.C.To show what his goals are.D.To pare it with a bridge.21.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A.Doing Something Valuable B.Studying Hard and Making ProgressC.Realizing Dreams with Persistent Action D.Separating Successful People from Dreams(2022春·四川自贡·九年级四川省荣县中学校校考期中)Modern technology has made it easier for mon people to rent things or services to (将……租给……) others. With an Internet connection and a mobile phone, we can find almost anything. It could be a new dress to wear on the weekend, or someone to clean our house. This is the sharing economy (共享经济), and it is now a $20 billionayear business. But some people are now asking: Just how good is it for society in general? Not long ago, when people went on vacation, they usually stayed in a hotel. Today they have the choice of staying in someone’s private house. They pay less, but what influence does this have on the hotel industry and the economy? Hotels receive fewer guests, but they still have to pay salaries (薪水) to their staff and taxes (税) to the government. Many people who rent out rooms do not. So the government gets less money, and some hotels might even close down. Then there are carsharing websites. Instead of using your own car for a long trip, you can get a ride with someone for a small amount of money. Some people argue this is better for the environment since fewer cars on the roads mean less pollution. But how many people choose to use these websites rather than taking the bus or the train? Public transportation is, after all, much kinder to the environment than cars. Many websites offer cooking services. Instead of going to a restaurant, you can use your mobile phone to order dishes from people in your neighborhood. There is even a website where you can buy leftovers (剩饭) that people haven’t eaten! This is sure to save you time and money. But is it risky? Can you trust the people cooking your food? Restaurants have to follow strict rules to make sure their food is safe to eat. There is no doubt that the sharing economy is growing. Some economists think it will be worth $335 billion by 2025. As new technology makes acmodation ( 住宿), transportation, and sharing food easier, the question of “Is it good for the economy, the environment, and people?” will remain.22.What does the underlined word it in Paragraph 1 refer to?A.Modern technology.B.A mobile phone.C.The sharing economy.23.What may happen if people choose to stay in private homes instead of hotels during their vacation?①People can save a little money.①The government gets more taxes.①Hotels might go out of business.A.①①B.①①C.①①24.Which of the following does the writer support most according to Paragraph 3?A.Driving your own car.B.Getting a ride with someone.C.Taking the bus or the train.25.What do the economists think the sharing economy will be like for the next few years?A.It will end.B.It will grow.C.It will bring the government trouble.(2022春·重庆沙坪坝·九年级重庆南开中学校考期中)Two months ago, Starbucks apologized (道歉) to the public for asking four local policemen eating food outside a Starbucks store to leave, which caused lots of discussions on the Internet.Reports show some people threw eggs to the store and some stopped the cleaning staff from cleaning up to express their dissatisfaction and anger with the pany.Such behavior should not happen, nor is it necessary. We don’t support any radical (激进的) action. And it is believed this is not what most Chinese people would like to see, nor does it stand for the general public opinion in China. In fact, the backlash (激烈反应) about Starbucks’ behavior happened for some reasons. Starbucks said that there was no “driving away the police”, and it was just a “misunderstanding” caused by the improper munication between the staff and the policemen. The way Starbucks apologized didn’t take the feelings of the Chinese public seriously. As an American pany that has been deeply developed in China for many years, Starbucks should have a full understanding of the basic values of Chinese society and respect them. People in China respect the hard work of the police and show their kindness to the police, but the Starbucks staff drove away the four policemen and asked them to find another place, plaining that they could have a negative influence on the store’s image. That is another reason why many people were still angry with what the pany did.________ It once apologized to the public for some other events such as selling food that went bad and not accepting coins from customers, but the result even added the oil to the fire. Starbucks should reflect on why this happens repeatedly.26.The reason why Starbucks apologized to the four policemen was that ________.A.the Starbucks staff failed to invite them to the storeB.the policemen punished the staff for their bad behaviorC.the Starbucks staff were influenced by the policemenD.the policemen were required to leave by the staff27.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT TRUE?A.Many people weren’t pleased with Starbucks.B.Starbucks should fully understand Chinese basic values.C.The writer is for the radical behavior towards Starbucks.D.Starbucks once apologized to the public for some other events.28.Which sentence is the best to put in the “________”?A.Starbucks should care more about food safety as well.B.This is not the first time for Starbucks to light a fire.C.However, that does not mean Starbucks has no problems.D.So what action should Starbucks take to deal with the terrible situation?29.The structure of the passage may be ________.(①=Para.1①=Para.2①=Para.3①=Para.4①=Para.5①=Para.6)A.B.C.D.(2022春·山东烟台·九年级统考期中)①In July last year, China introduced the “double reduction(双减)” policy. It hopes to reduce students’ learning burden(负担). How do students feel about this new policy?①“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13yearold Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “I have joined a group. The exercises are mainly from the textbook.”①According to Shen, teachers now teach at a much slower speed. “Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments(实验) and learn from real life,” said Shen. “For example, we went to research ants in afield during a biology class. Some students now spend more time having fun when homework is finished early.”①For 13yearold Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is the increased time in afterschool activities. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore, I can learn all kinds of skills out of class,” said Zhang.①Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they don’t think it’s necessarily a good thing. “This is a much better way to learn things than just hitting the books. Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points,” Zhang said.①Shen also pointed out that when the burden is reduced, selfdiscipline bees the key. “Exams push me to study harder. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind your peers(同龄人),” he said.30.How do Shen and Zhang like having fewer exams?A.It has some disadvantages.B.It can certainly bring good results.C.It is good for their health and study.D.It will be weled by every student.31.What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?A.To encourage students to relax themselves in their free time.B.To express how happy Shen feels about the new policy.C.To tell students that they still need to spend certain time studying.D.To discuss how to solve the problems the new policy brings.32.What’s the passage mainly about?A.How to reduce students’ learning burden.B.What students do in their spare time.C.How to make students’ free time more colorful.D.Different ideas about the “double reduction” policy.(2022秋·河北石家庄·九年级统考期中)Michael Jordon is the greatest basketball player till now. Even the best kid can be bad sometimes. So, what should happen when a kid does something bad? Should parents just talk to the kid? Or, should they punish the kid? These used to be easy questions. In the past, young children and students were beaten when they did something bad. It was mon for parents to beat young children. They would hit the child with their hands. If a student talked in class or didn’t do his homework, his teacher would hit him on the hand.I’m shamed to say that I was often punished when I was a very young boy in primary school. I didn’t like it, and sometimes I didn’t think I deserved it. But, was I harmed by this punishment? No, not really. Did the punishment improve my behavior? Well, only for as long as my hand hurt.Beating children is not allowed in most countries, including China. Today, most children can only be punished with “words”. But, is talking to them enough? Or are there some other better forms of punishment?36.In the past, if a student didn’t do his homework, what should his teacher do?A.His teacher would hit him on the bum.B.His teacher would get him out of the classroom.C.His teacher would hit him on the hand.D.His teacher would ask his parents to beat him.37.Was the writer often punished when he was in primary school?A.Yes, he was.B.No, he wasn’t.C.Yes, he did.D.No, he didn’t.38.What is the main idea of the passage?A.It’s about how to educate the children.B.It is about how to behave well at school.C.It tells us how to get on well with classmates.D.It tells us that teenagers shouldn’t depend on parents.。

2023届阅读理解话题分类专练:教育话题(共4题)一、阅读理解题(共4题)Teachers are conditioned to tolerate a lot of bad treatment—it's a professional suffering—but what teachers at Sir G.E. Cartier Elementary School in London went through last spring seems beyond the call of duty: a few of them agreed to be tied to a rail in the gym while students hit them in the face with cream pies. Why on earth would they do that To raise $3,000—enough cash for an interactive whiteboard, the most desirable piece of educational technology on the market right now. These Internet-age boards are essentially giant computer touchscreens, and they are all the fashion in schools. But with little room for them in school budgets, many educators are doing whatever it takes to raise the money themselves. "We are a desperate breed, aren't we " says Sharon Zinn, one of three teachers who volunteered for Cartier Elementary's whipped-cream-flavored activity. At schools fortunate enough to have them, interactive-white boards are a blessing for educators struggling to attract a generation of students who got accustomed to using the Web from the early age. In the UK—where 70 percent of all primary and secondary classrooms have interactive whiteboards, compared withjust 16 percent in the United States—students in those classrooms made the equivalent of five mouths' additional progress in math. So far, the data on the efficacy (有效性) of touchscreens in US classrooms is inconclusive, but promising. Multiple recent studies suggest that the devices advance attendance rates and classroom participation. Ever since Dorchester School District 2 in Summerville installed 1,200 interactive boards in its classrooms, disciplinary incidents are cut down. "Students were bored" before the touchscreens arrived, says Superintendent Joe Pye. "Trips to the principal's office are almost nonexistent now."But for some teachers, learning to use the device is not easy, and a generation gap has opened with teachers who are still used to writing lesson plans with a pen and paper. Many older educators are terrified by the boards, says Peter Kornicker, a media specialist in Harlem, where despite a student poverty rate of 98 percent, all 35 classrooms are equipped with touchscreens. "As always, it comes back to the ability of teachers to master this technology," says Andy Rotherham of Education Sector in Washington, D.C. "We have to train them to use it. Otherwise, it's just another underused, expensive thing."(1) How does the author view the deed of some teachers at Sir G.E. Cartier Elementary SchoolA.It is what most teachers are going through.B.It is something worth praise.C.It is too much for most teachers to tolerate.D.It is due to the conflict between teachers and students.(2) Which of the following is true about the present generation of studentsA.They are heavily influenced by the Web.B.They don't respect teachers and observe disciplines. C.They are bored with the way teachers teach.D.They are only good at mathematics.(3) What can we know about the situation in the USA.A high percentage of schools are using touchscreens. B.The effectiveness of touchscreens has been proved. C.Touchscreens promote attendance and classroom participation. D.All teachers are receiving training to use touchscreens.(4) What is the most important to make the touchscreens a success in classroomsA.To get enough financial budget to equip classrooms with touchscreens.B.To give up the traditional way of writing lesson plans with a pan and paper.C.To familiarize more students with the use of interactivetouchscreens.D.To train teachers to master and use the modern device.Of all the things that have effects on your future, I believe that personal growth is the greatest. Many people talk about sales growth, profit growth, and possession growth, but none of these will happen without personal growth. In fact, I'd like to have you memorize a most important sentence. It is "The key to your future is you yourself."There are many things that will help you better your future. If you belong to a strong, dynamic (充满活力的) and progressive company, that will help. Good training will help. Strong leadership will help. If the neighbors stay civil (文明的), that will help. If your relatives don't trouble you, that will help…All these things will help. We can go on and on with the list; but remember, the things that I've covered above just play minor (次要的) roles in helping you reach a good future. The major cause doesn't lie outside. It lies inside.Strangely enough, when two different men work in the same company, the first person may earn $1,000 a month, while the second may earn $10,000 a month. What causes the difference when they have the same job, use the same tools, and get the same trainingThe cause of the difference lies in believing, in trying, in accepting failures, in thinking, in a smile at people around, and in the ways of dealing with problems. All of these can be major causes of your good future. You can see all these come from inside. In fact, the real difference is you yourself. You are the key to your future. Teens are the most wonderful and important period in life. If you want a great future, begin to improve yourself from now on!(1) Among all the things mentioned, which one is the most important in the author's opinionA.Sales growth. B.Profit growth.C.Possession growth. D.Personal growth.(2) Which of the following may play a main role in influencing your futureA.Being determined. B.Working in good companies. C.Having rich relatives. D.Getting leaders' help.(3) All may cause the two men's different earnings EXCEPT that_____.A.the second person buys expensive houses or carsB.the first person treats others badlyC.the second man has a positive attitude to problemsD.the first man gives up after failures(4) The passage is mainly written for _____.A.old people B.adults C.teenagers D.babiesIt seems like just yesterday that you had to persuade your daughter to bathe. But then she turned 11 and started spending hours in the bathroom and glancing at her image (映像) in every mirror she passes. She is concerned about her looks. What happened And is it healthyAs they approach the teen years, it's common and natural for kids to become more interested in appearances—their own and others'. Their bodies are going through some big changes as they grow and go through puberty (青春期). As teens change physically, they become more aware of how they look.Growth and puberty affect more than a teen's appearance—body image is affected, too. Having a healthy body image means that most of the feelings, ideas, and opinions about the body and appearance are positive. It means accepting and appreciating their bodies and feeling mostly satisfied with their appearances. Developing a healthy body image happens over time. It can be influenced by experiences and shaped by the opinions of others and by cultural messages. Preteens and teens often compare their looks with others' or with media images of the "right" way to look. And ideal images are so unrealistic—it's all too common to be dissatisfied with some aspects of appearance. Being criticized (批评)or laughed at about appearances can be particularly hurtful at this age.As teens try on different looks, parents can help by being accepting and supportive, providing positive messages, and encouraging other qualities that keep looks properly. Keep in mind that it's important for preteens or teens to eat nutritious food, limit junk food, and get plenty of physical activities, but it's not advisable for them to diet. Being overly concerned about weight, limiting food, or exercising too much can be signs of an eating disorder. Talk to your doctor if you notice any of these signs in your kids.Still parents can be frustrated (沮丧的) when looks seem to matter so much to kids. It's important to encourage teens to take pride in their appearance but also to focus on the deeper qualities that matter more.(1) What's the purpose of the questions in the first paragraph A.To lead in the topic.B.To offer some tips.C.To show different opinions.D.To introduce the importance of health.(2) When the kids are around ten, _____.A.they have to be persuaded to batheB.they will pay attention to their looksC.they will be shy of the physical changesD.they would like to stay with their parents(3) What can we learn from Paragraphs 3 and 4A.The opinions of others will hardly affect the form of a healthy body image.B.Having a healthy body image means the kid's look is accepted by others.C.Usually most kids are satisfied with their appearances. D.Kids are easy to be hurt when their looks are laughed at. (4) According to Paragraph 5, kids should _____.A.avoid being worried about their weight too muchB.have a strict physical activity arrangementC.try keeping the shape by limiting foodD.often visit the doctor to see if they are fitThe most prevalent use of intelligence test scores is to predict degree of academic success. Such scores are used in some communities as bases for admitting able children to schools at ages younger than normal, and they are very generally used to determine admissions to schools beyond public secondary school. Another use common in elementary schools involves comparing such scores with performances in various subjects to identify children who are working below capacity. The greatest problem in using intelligence tests for the purpose of prediction is that no dependable criterion (标准) of their accuracy exists. The ideal criteria would be objective and reliable achievement tests following instruction in each subject, but there are few such tests, especially at the college level. Studies have shown that correlations (相关度) between intelligence tests and achievement tests in various subjects through secondary school range roughly from 0.5 to 0.8. Such correlations are fairly high, but they do not suggest anywhere near complete agreement. At the college level there are two major tests used as criteria of admission. By far the more important is the College Entrance Examination, constructed by the Educational Testing Service authorized by the College Entrance Examination Board. These tests are returned to the Educational Testing Service for scoring, and the results are then made available to the various colleges authorized by the students to receive them. The second test of this type is the American College Test, which operates in essentially the same fashion. Both tests constitute measures of certain skills, abilities, and knowledge that have been found to be related to success in college. Their correlations with academic success are limited for three outstanding reasons. First, measures of achievement incollege are themselves perhaps no more reliable than those in elementary and secondary schools. Second, intellectual factors do not alone determine academic success, especially at the college level. Many students drop out of schools because they are inadequately motivated or because they dislike the instructional program. Third, correlations are lowered because the use of such tests for denying admission to some students means that the range of scores for those admitted is restricted, and such restrictions tend to reduce correlation.(1) The intelligence scores can be used in the following way EXCEPT _____.A.telling in advance the degree of academic success B.admitting intelligent children to school at the age younger than ordinaryC.finding out children working below capacity in primary schools D.selecting pupils by public secondary schools(2) What can be inferred from the second paragraphA.The standards for the evaluation of college students' academic achievements need to be improved.B.The correlations between intelligence and achievement tests in middle schools are not as high as predicted.C.Intelligence test scores can help predict accurately the degree ofstudents' academic success.D.The high correlations can prove that the results of academic tests exactly agree with intelligence test scores.(3) What can we learn about the two major tests for college admissionA.The papers of the College Entrance Examination are set by the College Entrance Examination Boar.B.The American College Test is of the same importance as the College Entrance Examination.C.The results of the two examinations will be sent to colleges with the students' permission.D.The College Entrance Examination is as fashionable as the American College Test.(4) Which of the following does not account for the reduction of the correlation between the two admission tests and the academic success in collegeA.Measures of students' achievements in college B.Students' motivations for and interest in their study C.Some students' being refused the admission to the college D.The popular use of the intelligence test答案一、阅读理解题(共4题)1.

her life.It was not until last year, after she participated in a reality show and became a restaurant server, that her situation began to improve dramatically. The restaurant in Shanghai where she works is the Forget Me Not Cafe.It shares the goal of providing job opportunities for elderly people who have Alzheimer’s disease or other cognitive impairments.“I provide basic services for guests, such as pouring water, serving and taking orders.I can now remember all the dishes on the menu,” said Zhu,who has come to the restaurant three times a week since February and works three hours a day.“The colleagues take good care of us.They never allow us to deliver hot dishes such as soups. The guests are also very tolerant of us,because sometimes we make mistakes.”Because of memory loss,Zhu writes down all the information she wants to remember on sticky notes, such as the names of the volunteers and teachers as well as English words.“People with cognitive impairment actually refuse and fear to communicate with society but this will worsen their condition,” she added.“With the weakening of brain function, they may gradually lose memory and the ability to take care of themselves and might even see the loss of emotions.” In addition to the job opportunities for the elderly, information about cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease is posted on a board outside the restaurant to help people recognize symptoms and seek treatment as soon as possible. As China faces an aging population, the increasing number of seniors with cognitive impairment has become a significant social issue.“We should feel lucky that the whole society is concerned about the seniors, especially for people like us.The neighborhood committee always checks on our situation and watches for other elderly people with symptoms,” Zhu said.1.What can we know about Zhu Caiping?A.She always made mistakes at work.B.She made efforts to be equal to the job.C.She was a full-time restaurant server in a Shanghai café.D.She was one of those suffering from severe cognitive impairment.2.How might people with cognitive impairment feel?A.Forgetful and upset.B.Anxious but lucky.C.Tolerant and careful.D.Indifferent but energetic.3.Why is information about cognitive impairment posted outside the restaurant?A.To provide treatment for the sick.B.To seek approval from the citizens.C.To offer the elderly job opportunities.D.To equip people with relevant knowledge.4.In which section of a newspaper the passage most likely be found?A.Health.B.Society.C.Culture.D.Business.B(2022广东广州高三调研测试)If you have trouble falling asleep, listen up.You might fall asleep 15 minutes earlier and wake up far less during the night if you put on a pair of socks at bedtime. To understand why,you first need to grasp the relationship between core body temperature and sleep.During daylight hours, the human body has an average temperature of 37℃.But your core body temperature drops as much as 1.2℃ over one night’s sleep. This gradual decrease is a key part of how we sleep.Put simply, the faster you can lower your core body temperature, the faster you will fall asleep. One way that your body controls its temperature is through blood vessels(血管) in the skin.If your body is too hot, your blood vessels widen, pushing the warmer blood nearer the skin’s surface, helping it to cool.If your body is too cold, the opposite happens.Your blood vessels narrow, restricting the flow of blood to the surface. The palms of your feet are one of your body’s most efficient heat exchangers, since they are hairless and less protected than other skin surfaces.Researchers have shown that warming the feet before going to sleep using a warm foot bath or by wearing socks promotes blood vessel widening, which in turn lowers the body’s core temperature faster than going to sleep with cold, bare feet.Scientists suspect that socked feet have a sleep-benefiting effect on the brain as well. The warm-sensitive neurons(神经元) in the brain become more active when there’s a temperature difference between the body’s core and the feet.Researchers have found that these neurons become more active as we get sleepy and slow down as we wake up,so that warming up the feet before bedtime may give them an extra drive, making you feel sleepier. In a small study, researchers found that wearing a pair of special “sleeping socks” not only sped up the coming of sleep, but increased overall sleep time by an average of 30 minutes and cut nighttime waking episodes in half.If you’re worried about becoming too warm, look for socks made of natural fibers.5.In which section of a newspaper can we find this text?A.Advertisement.B.Lifestyle.C.Opinion.D.Trend.6.What change does warm feet bring to the body?A.Slowed brain reaction.B.Narrowed blood vessels.C.Reduced core body temperature.D.Decreased blood pressure.7.How might the brain’s warm-sensitive neurons help sleep?A.They might help to warm up the feet.B.They might speed up temperature growth.C.They might slow down the brain’s blood flow.D.They might bring on sleepiness when activated.8.What is the finding of the small study mentioned in the last paragraph?A.The warmth of socks depends on their material.B.People wearing socks fall asleep 50 percent faster.C.Special socks increase temperature more effectively.D.Sock wearing helps people sleep longer and wake less.C(2022江淮十校高三第三次联考)By being able to wait for better food, cuttlefish showed self-control that’s linked to the higher intelligence. It was part of an experiment by Alex Schnell from the University of Cambridge and colleagues.“What surprised me most was the level of self-control shown by cuttlefish,” she tells Weekend Edition. The experiment was essentially a take on the classic “marshmallow(棉花软糖)” experiment from the 1960s.In that experiment, young children were presented with one marshmallow and told that if they can resist eating it for several minutes, they will get two marshmallows. But if they eat it,that’s all theyget. The children who are able to delay satisfaction do better on tests and are more successful later in life.To adapt the experiment for cuttlefish, the researchers first figured out the cuttlefish’s favorite food:live grass shrimp;and their second-favorite food:a piece of king prawn.Instead of choosing one or two marshmallows, the cuttlefish had to choose either their favorite food or second-favorite food. Each of the food items was placed in a clear box within their tank. One box would open immediately, while the other box would only open after a delay. It essentially tested whether they could resist the temptation(诱惑) of their second preference food and wait for their preferred food. The cuttlefish learned to wait.“Animals like rats and pigeons find it difficult to resist temptation, only waiting for several seconds,” Schnell says,“while animals such as chimpanzees and parrots show more advanced self-control and wait up to several minutes. And the cuttlefish in our study waited up to between 50 to 130 seconds.”Animals that are able to exercise self-control in this way have advantages. For example, animals can hide food to eat later. In cuttlefish,Schnell thinks the delayed satisfaction relates to theirlifestyle.“Individuals who wait for better-quality prey could find food more efficiently and limit their exposure to predators(捕食者),”Schnell writes.9.Why does the writer mention the experiment conducted in the 1960s?A.To highlight the intelligence of humans.B.To offer statistics to the experiment for cuttlefish.C.To show the differences between humans and animals.D.To provide supporting background information for the following experiment.10.What can we learn about the experiment for cuttlefish from the passage?A.The box with cuttlefish’s favorite food wouldn’t open instantly.B.The cuttlefish had to choose between the food they liked and disliked.C.Cuttlefish could not wait to eat their favourite food immediately.D.The food was put at the same place for cuttlefish to choose from.11.What can be inferred from the passage?A.Cuttlefish is probably born with the ability to resist temptation.B.It is a disadvantage for animals to exercise too much self-control.C.Cuttlefish may be less intelligent than Chimpanzees.D.We must take immediate measures to protect cuttlefish.12.Where can we most probably read this text?A.In a personal diary.B.In a 第56题单选修改Internet(因特网)use seems to cause a decline(下降)in psychological(心理的)health, which is reported by a study.Even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet felt more depression(沮丧)and loneliness than those who spent little time on the Internet, the two-year study showed. And it wasn't that people who were already feeling bad spent more time on the Internet, but that using the Internet seems to cause the bad feelings.Scientists are surprised at the results, which were quite different from what they thought before. They thought that the Internet would make people psychologically healthier than TV, since on the Internet users are free to choosetheir information and to communicate(交流)with others. However, the scientists also said, when people spend a lot of time or even all the day time on the lntemet, there is no time left for them to be with their family and friends.

What can the magic pen do ?,引导学生用英语说出Maybe it can…,并在图片环游的时候学习单词:ink, waste, mix, magic等。
