I was curious.Growing up in Singapore, I had an unusual relationship with my Chinese name. My parents are ethnically Chinese, so they asked fortune tellers to decide my name, aiming for maximum luck. As a result, I ended up with a nonsense and embarrassing name: Chen Yiwen, meaning, roughly, “old”, “barley (薏米)” and “warm”.When I arrived in America for college at 18, I put on an American accent and abandoned my Chinese name. When I moved to Hong Kong in 2021, after 14 years in the States, I decided to learn calligraphy. Why not get back in touch with my heritage? I thought. In calligraphy, the idea is to copy the old masters’ techniques, thereby refining your own. Every week, though, my teacher would give uncomfortably on-the-nose assessments of my person. “You need to be braver,” he once observed. “Have confidence. Try to produce a bold stroke(笔画).” For years, I had prided myself on presenting an image of confidence, but my writing betrayed me.I was trying to make sense of this practice. You must visualize the word as it is to be written and leave a trace of yourself in it. As a bodily practice, calligraphy could go beyond its own cultural restrictions. Could it help me go beyond mine? My teacher once said to me, “When you look at the word, you see the body. Though a word on the page is two-dimensional, it contains multitudes, conveying the force you’ve applied, the energy of your grip, the arch of your spine.” I had been learning calligraphy to get in touch with my cultural roots, but what I was really seeking was a return to myself. Now I have sensed that the pleasure out of calligraphy allows me to know myself more fully.During a recent lesson, my teacher pointed at the word I had just finished, telling me: “This word is much better. I can see the choices you made, your calculations, your flow. Trust yourself. This word is yours.” He might as well have said, “This word is you.”4. What did the author initially think of her name “Chen Yiwen”?A.It was lucky so she gladly accepted it. B.She felt proud of its symbolic meaning.C.She understood the intention but still disliked it. D.Its strange pronunciation made her embarrassed.5. The author decided to learn calligraphy to ______.A.pick up a new hobby B.reconnect with her originC.gain insights into a new culture D.fit in with local community6. From the teacher’s words, the author learns that calligraphy ______.A.reflects the creator’s spirits B.comes from creative energyC.highlights the design of strokes D.depends on continuous practice7. What does the author intend to tell us?A.Appreciate what our culture offers. B.Find beauty from your inner self.C.A great teacher leads you to truth. D.We are the sum of what we create. Against the supposition that forest fires in Alaska, Canada and Siberia warm the climate, scientists have discovered that cooling may occur in areas where burnt trees allow more snow to mirror more sunlight into space. This finding suggests that taking steps to prevent northern forest to limit the release of greenhouse gases may warm the climate in northern regions. Usually large fires destroyed forests in these areas over the past decade. Scientists predict that with climate warming, fires may occur more frequently over next several centuries as a result of a longer fire season. Sunlight taken in by the earth tends to cause warming while heat mirrored back into space tends to cause cooling. This is the first study to analyze all aspects of how northern fires influence climate. Earlier studies by other scientists have suggested that fire in northern regions speed up climate warming because greenhouse gases from burning trees and plants are released into the atmosphere and thus trap heat.Scientists found that right after the fire, large amounts of greenhouse gases entered the atmosphere and caused warming.Ozone(臭氧)levels increased, and ash from the fire fell on far-off sea ice darkening the surface and causing more radiation from the sun to be taken in. The following spring however, the land within the area of the fire was brighter than before the fire, because fewer tree covered the ground. Snow on the ground mirrored more sunlight back into space, leading to cooling. We need to find out all possible ways to reduce the growth of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Scientists tracked the change in amount of radiation entering and leaving the climate system as a result of the fire, and found a measurement closely related to the global air temperature. Typically, fire in northern regions occurs in the same area every 80 to 150 years. Scientists, however, found that when fire occurs more frequently, more radiation is lost from the earth and cooling results. Specifically, they determined when fire returns 20 years earlier than predicated, 0.5 watts per square meter of area burned are soaked up by the earth from greenhouse gases, but 0.9 watts per square meter will be sent back into space. The net effect is cooling. Watts are used to measure the rate at which energy is gained or lost from the earth.8. According to the new findings, taking steps to prevent northern forest fires mayA.result in a warming climateB.cause the forest fires to occur more frequentlyC.lead to a longer fire seasonD.protect the forests and the environment there9. The following are all the immediate effects after a forest fire EXCEPTA.large amounts of greenhouse gases enter the atmosphereB.the levels of ozone which is a type of oxygen increaseC.snow on the ground mirrors more sunlight back into spaceD.ashes from the fire fall on the ice surface and take in more radiation from the sun10. Earlier studies about northern forest firesA.analyze all aspects of how northern fires influence climateB.indicate that forest fires will pollute the atmosphereC.suggest that people should take measures to protect the environmentD.suggest that the fires will speed up climate warming11. From the passage we can draw a conclusion that forest fires in Alaska, Canada and Siberia mayA.warm the climate as the supposition goesB.allow more snow to reflect more sunlight into space and thus cool the climateC.destroy large areas of forests and pollute the far-off sea iceD.help to gain more energy rather than release more energyImagine this. You need an image of a balloon for a work presentation and turn to an AI text-to- image generator, like Midjourney or DALL-E, to create a suitable image. You enter the prompt (提示词) “red balloon against a blue sky” but the generator returns an image of an egg instead. What’s going on? The generator you’re using may have been “poisoned”. What does this mean? Text-to-image generators work by being trained on large datasets that include millions or billions of images. Some of the generators have been trained by indiscriminately scraping online images, many of which may be under copyright. This has led to many copyright infringement (侵害) cases where artists have accused big tech companies of stealing and profiting from their work. This is also where the idea of “poison” comes in. Researchers who want to empower individual artists have rec ently created a tool named “Nightshade” to fight back against unauthorised image scraping. The tool works by slightly altering an image’s pixels (像素) in a way that confuses the computer vision system but leaves the image unaltered to a human’s eyes. If an organization then scrapes one of these images to train a future AI model, its data pool becomes “poisoned”. This can result in mistaken learning, which makes the generator return unintended results. As in our earlier example, a balloon might become an egg.The higher the number of “poisoned” images in the training data, the greater the impact. Because of how generative AI works, the damage from “poisoned” images also affects related prompt keywords. For example, if a “poisoned” image of a Picasso work is us ed in training data, prompt results for masterpieces from other artists can also be affected.Possibly, tools like Nightshade can be abused by some users to intentionally upload “poisoned” images in order to confuse AI generators. But the Nightshade’s deve loper hopes the tool will make big tech companies more respectful of copyright. It does challenge a common belief among computer scientists that data found online can be used for any purpose they see fit.Human rights activists, for example, have been concerned for some time about the indiscriminate use of machine vision in wider society. This concern is particularly serious concerning facial recognition. There is a clear connection between facial recognition cases and data poisoning, as both relate to larger questions around technological governance. It may be better to see data poisoning as an innovative solution to the denial of some fundamental human rights.12. The underlined word “scraping” (para. 2) is closest in meaning to ____.A.facilitating B.collecting C.damaging D.polishing13. According to the passage, adding poisoned data might ____.A.increase the accuracy of returned informationB.cause users to forget the prompt key wordsC.interfere with the training of generative AID.discriminate against great masterpieces14. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?A.Data poisoning is somehow justified to direct attention to human rights.B.Computer scientists has learned to respect the copyright of most artists.C.Nightshade is being abused by human rights activists to recognize faces.D.The issue of technological governance has aroused the lawyers’ interest.15. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?A.Data Poisoning: Government Empowering Citizens to Protect ThemselvesB.Data Poisoning: Addressing Facial Recognition Issues Among ArtistsC.Data Poisoning: Risks and Rewards of Generative AI Data TrainingD.Data Poisoning: Restricting Innovation or Empowering Artists“TALKING with you for one night is better than studying books for ten years” this was the comment of an old Chinese scholar after he had had a conversation with a friend. 16 And today thephrase “a night’s talk” has become a current expression for a happy conversation with a friend at night, either past or expected.Such a supreme pleasure as having a perfect conversation with a friend at night is necessarily rare, for as the playwright Li Liweng has pointed out,“ 17 The discovery of a man up in a mountain temple, who really understands life and at the same time understands the art of conversation, must therefore be one of the keenest pleasures, like the discovery of a new planet by an astronomer or of a new variety of plant by a botanist. There is an evident distinction between mere talking and conversation as such. This distinction is made in the Chinese language between shuohua (speaking) and tanhua (conversation), which implies that in conversation the language used is more chatty and leisurely and the topics more trivial and less business like.18 We can discuss business with almost any person, but there are very few people with whom we can truly hold a night's conversation. Hence, when we do find a true conversationalist, the pleasure is equal to, if not above, that of reading a delightful author, with the additional pleasure of hearing his voice and seeing his gestures.19 There will be chats about ghosts and fox spirits, mixed with amusing tales or 39 impassioned comments: on international affairs, and sometimes before we know it, a wise observer and conversationalist may shed light on things that have bothered you for a long time. 20Hey! Finally, small firms offer a more pleasant working environment. Admittedly, you may enjoy higher salaries and more fringe benefits a big company offers. But work is demanding and competitive. The constant need to prove that you are as good or better than your fellowcompetitors creates constant anxiety and stress. In a small organization, however, you won’t feel such a pressure. Your salary may be a little bit lower, but you work comfortably and feel at ease.

My first thought when I opened the tissue paper and saw the blouse was that it was another candidate to hang in the back of my closet. I felt like the most important person didn’t care enough about me to think about my likes and dislikes.“What do you think, Mom?” Jason asked, hardly waiting for me to pull the blouse out of the box. “I thought it would look so nice on you.” He smiled at me with anticipation. At that moment, I realized Jason saw me as someone who would be open to receiving and wearing something more elegant than my usual clothes. He wanted to give me something special. It was a flash of sudden recognition. Then everything changed.“It’s beautiful,” I was able to say genuinely as I hugged him.“Try it on. I want to see how it looks,” Jason added.“I know just the skirt to try it with,” I said as I headed towards my closet. When I returned with the outfit on, Jason was waiting. “It looks just like I thought it would. It’s pretty on you, Mom,” Jason said.I tried to stop the tears that were welling in the corner of my eyes. “Thank you, honey. It isa beautiful blouse. I can tell you put a lot of thought into picking it out.”Jason probably wondered why I was so emotional over the gift. It made me think back on the gifts I’d ignored. Maybe the people who gave me the gifts saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. That opened me up to change and growth. In the years since, I received my son’s present. I have rarely felt disappointed when a gift doesn’t match my interests or desires. I’ve started appreciating the thoughts and efforts behind every gift and accepted it with gratitude. This change has made holidays more joyful anddeepened my appreciation for family and friends. There is surely something special about receiving a gift that is perfectly suited for you. But I have found that it is just as special to receive all gifts with an open mind and a grateful heart. 4.How did the author feel in the beginning when receiving the present from her son?A.Curious.B.Relieved.C.Guilty.D.Dissatisfied. 5.What mainly changed the author’s attitude toward Jason’s gift?A.The understanding of Jason’s thoughts.B.The recognition of her own potential.C.The skirt that matches the blouse.D.The praise from Jason.6.After reflecting on past gifts, the author became _________.A.careful about choosing giftsB.indifferent to receiving giftsC.joyful about choosing giftsD.grateful for receiving gifts7.What can we learn from this passage?A.What suits you is best for you.B.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.C.An open mind is the source of progress.D.Unspoken gratitude is often the most heartfelt.Eating a plant- based diet has been shown to be very good for your heart and your overall health. In fact, a recent study found a young person could live an additional 13 years by eating more vegetables and legumes (豆类), as well as whole grains, fruit and nuts.Which makes the findings of a new analysis of the diets of nearly 400,000 UK adults published Monday in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition rather shocking: Eating veggies, especially cooked ones, doesn’t reduce your risk of heart disease over time.“Our large study did not find evidence for a protective effect of vegetable intake on the occurrence of CVD (cardiovascular disease),” said Qi Feng, an epidemiologist at the University of Oxford, in a statement. While the study found eating raw veggies could protect against heart disease, cooked vegetables did not. Any benefit went away when researchers factored in lifestyle factors such as physical activity, educational level, smoking, drinking, fruit intake, red and processed meat consumption, and use of mineral and vitamin supplements.“Instead, our analyses show that the seemingly protective effect of vegetable intake against CVD risk is very likely to be accounted for by bias (偏差)… related to differences in socioeconomic situation and lifestyle,” Feng said.Don’t start celebrating yet, veggie haters. Experts in the UK and United States quickly took exception to the study’s conclusion“Although this study found that eating more vegetables wasn’t associated with a lower risk of heart and circulatory diseases once other lifestyle and other factors were taken into account, that doesn’t mean we should stop eating vegetables,” said Victoria Taylor, a senior dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, in a statement.“The results are not surprising. Picking out one single component and assuming just adding it to the diet, e. g., vegetables, is not likely to result in the desired effect,” Alice Lichtenstein, director and senior scientist at Tufts University’s Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory, told CNN in an email.“One thing that has become clear over the past decade is we should not be looking at single food s or nutrients, rather the whole dietary pattern,” said Lichtenstein.8.What can we learn from the new study led by Feng?A.It followed a young UK person for 13 years.B.Its findings came as no surprise to other people.C.It overturned the conclusion of previous studies.D.Its purpose was to find the right vegetables for people.9.What did Feng imply about vegetables’ protective effect?A.It was totally made up by some researchers.B.It still held true despite some different findings.C.It could only be achieved by living a healthy lifestyle.D.It was a misconception caused by differences in people.10.Which of following is closest in meaning to underlined phrase“ take exception to”?A.V oice objections to.B.Add details to.C.Display ignorance of.D.Take notice of.11.What did Lichtenstein think of the study?A.It was groundbreaking.B.It was one- sided.C.It would cause confusion.D.It needed more evidence.I have taught medical students for 40 years in many contexts — on hospital rounds, during patient appointments, running small group discussions, and teaching large classes. I have lectured on topics that range from biochemical pathways to lifestyle diseases to nutrition science and the biology of aging. The most pleasing part of teaching is passing along the less visible aspects of being a physician — how to show respect for patients and be a true caregiver. I do this by telling stories about my clinical experience during lectures and the pay-off for me is engagement with students. The pandemic and its consequent shift in how students learn has changed all of that.In my 40 years of teaching, I’ve never seen such a dramatic change. The pandemic forced first- and second-year medical students into virtual classes, causing in-person attendance to dive. As I watched this shift to remote learning, I worried about its impact on future doctors. The engagement I once saw in the classroom is now hidden behind screens, and I find myself wondering if my stories and lessons are having the same impact. The shift to virtual learning also worries me about the future of medical education. The personal nature of medicine, often seen in clinical skills training and up-close body studies, is hard to obtain virtually. I’m also concerned about other crucial aspects of early medical school education that I’ve seen benefit students over the years — things like research opportunities, specialty exploration and volunteer work. These activities are much harder to do remotely. These experiences are vital for developing well-rounded, skilled doctors who can provide thorough treatment. Finally, there is a very real threat to medical education in changing the role of the physician professors. Doctors are unusual among professions in the expectation that they will teach medical students regardless of where and what specific field of medicine they practice. Remove professors’ satisfaction that comes with face-to-face teaching and we risk losing their commitment, much ofwhich is often done on an entirely voluntary basis.12.What did the author enjoy most in the past 40 years?A.Telling attractive stories.B.Lecturing on many topics.C.Sharing his values and attitude.D.Being experienced and respected. 13.What is important for the future of medical education?A.Appealing nature of medicine.B.Well-rounded clinical trainings.C.Hands-on non-virtual experiences.D.Students’ special personal talents. 14.According to paragraph 5, what worries the author?A.Medical professors might be expected to teach wherever they are.B.Medical professors might not fully devote themselves to teaching.C.Medical professors might lose most of the students’ satisfaction.D.Medical professors might change their role to be student-centered.15.What is the main idea of this passage?A.The issues with reduced face-to-face lecture attendance.B.The debates over necessity of virtual medical education.C.The problems of medical students, low employment rate.D.The concerns about the shift to virtual medical education. In the modem world, we are encouraged to be busy and as productive as possible. Most of us probably feel the pressure to perform efficiently. 16 Faster doesn’t equal better. And being busier does not mean we are more productive. We might also struggle to slow down. So how do we slow down? Here are some science-based strategies to try.Take intentional pauses. Taking intentional pauses can lead to better outcomes. It turns out that when teachers pause after asking a question and after receiving a response, it improves students’ use of language and logic. This suggests that we should give ourselves a bit more time to think through the questions we encounter in life. 17Spend less time on your phone. We often feel tired and need a break from our busy day, so we pick up our phones. We surf through social media, the news, or shopping websites. 18 That’s the opposite of slowing down. To start, it would do us some good to spend less time on our phones. Then, it also matters a lot how we spend time on our phones. Are we stimulating our brainwith information or anger? Or are we using our phones to relax and recover?19 Sometimes when we feel overwhelmed by life, s fast pace, the true source of that chaos often lies within our own minds. Maybe we’re running over what we’ll say to our coworker tomorrow. 20 One effective strategy to aid this process can be daily journaling — we get those thoughts out of our heads and onto paper. We might also go for a run or take a cold shower — two techniques that can help our brains change direction and start thinking differently.A.Slow down your mind.B.Write down your thoughts.C.And being busier means that we are more productive.D.Thus, we are more likely to come up with better answers.E.But all that these activities do is make our heads even fuller.F.Sometimes we just need to stop briefly and reset our thought.G.But this feeling of “time urgency” actually leads us to perform worse.二、完形填空Rob made ends meet for his family as a handyman, doing odd jobs around the area. A balanced XLR output and coaxial digital output ensure the highest sound quality when recording, giving the GT-6B a decisive advantage over other bass multi-effects.--------------------------------------------------------------COSM Modeling for BassThanks to proprietary COSM technology, the GT-6B can model the sound of six classic bass amps including “Concert 810,”“Session,” “T.E.” “Bass 360,” “B Man,” and “Flip Top.” But amps are only half the story, so the GT-6B also includes several speaker cabinet models like 8 x 10, 4 x 10, 2 x 15 and others. Now you can get great tone direct!--------------------------------------------------------------Killer Effects with COSMThe GT-6B features BOSS’ finest “bread-and-butter” effects—including chorus, reverb, delay, flanger and more—all tuned for bass guitar. And with COSM Overdrive/Distortion Modeling and Wah Modeling, bass players can get some of their favorite tones and effects without using amps or noisy stompboxes. The GT-6B also features new COSM Compression, which offers models of several well-known compressors. With all of these amazing COSM effects, bassists can literally just plug in and play.--------------------------------------------------------------Auto Slap, Looping and MoreNew performance effects include an Auto Slap feature, which creates automatic slap patterns using Preset or User templates, plus sound-on-sound looping for creating loops “on the fly”—even fat synth bass sounds with killer tracking. Peer Pressure Since I attend college, I feel more and more peer pressure. While I used to be a top student in senior high school, and was always praised by teachers and envied by peers, now I find there are a lot of talented peers in college and I am temporarily and relatively poor in academic performance. Therefore, I feel that I have changed from a hero to a zero.

But there are some parts of the world where even now people cannot write. The only way that they can preserve their history is to recount it as sagas -- legends handed down from one generation of storytellers to another. These legends are useful because they can tell us something about migrations of people who lived long ago, but none could write down what they did. Anthropologists wondered where the remote ancestors of the Polynesian peoples now living in the Pacific Islands came from. The sagas of these people explain that some of them came from Indonesia about 2,000 years ago. But the first people who were like ourselves lived so long ago that even their sagas, if they had any, are forgotten. So archaeologists have neither history nor legends to help them to find out where the first 'modern men' came from.Fortunately, however, ancient men made tools of stone, especially flint, because this is easier to shape than other kinds. They may also have used wood and skins, but these have rotted away. Stone does not decay, and so the tools of long ago have remained when even the bones of the men who made them have disappeared without trace.New words and expressions 生词与短语fossil man (title)adj.

英语作文a busy week

英语作文a busy week

英语作文a busy weekA Busy WeekIt was a hectic week for me, filled with a whirlwind of activities and responsibilities that left me feeling both exhausted and accomplished. From work deadlines to social engagements, it seemed like every moment of my waking hours was occupied with something demanding my attention. Yet, despite the frenetic pace, I found myself surprisingly energized and motivated to tackle each challenge that came my way.The week began with a flurry of work-related tasks. As a project manager, I was responsible for overseeing the launch of a new product line for my company. This entailed coordinating with various departments, ensuring that deadlines were met, and addressing any issues that arose along the way. It was a high-pressure situation, but I thrived on the challenge, working tirelessly to ensure that everything ran smoothly.Alongside my professional obligations, I also had a packed social calendar. On Monday evening, I attended a networking event organized by my industry association. It was an opportunity toconnect with peers, exchange ideas, and stay up-to-date on the latest trends and developments in our field. The event was a resounding success, and I left feeling energized and inspired, having made several valuable connections that I knew would serve me well in the future. The following day, I had a lunch meeting with a potential client. This was a crucial opportunity to pitch our services and secure a lucrative contract. I spent hours preparing for the meeting, meticulously crafting my presentation and anticipating any questions or objections the client might have. When the time came, I delivered my pitch with confidence and enthusiasm, and to my delight, the client was impressed and agreed to move forward with our proposal.Midweek, I found myself attending a charity gala organized by a local nonprofit organization. As a board member, I had a responsibility to not only attend but also to actively participate in the event's success. I spent the evening mingling with donors, encouraging them to contribute to the cause, and even taking to the stage to deliver a heartfelt speech about the organization's mission and the impact it was making in our community. It was a humbling and rewarding experience, and I left the event feeling proud to be a part of such a worthy endeavor. The latter half of the week was no less demanding. On Thursday, Ihad a series of back-to-back meetings with my team, discussing project updates, addressing any challenges, and strategizing for the weeks ahead. It was a long and intense day, but I was impressed by the dedication and hard work of my colleagues, and I felt a deep sense of pride in the progress we were making.Friday was a day of personal obligations. I had to attend a family wedding, which meant coordinating with my partner, selecting the perfect outfit, and navigating the social dynamics of a large extended family gathering. While it was a departure from my professional responsibilities, I embraced the opportunity to connect with loved ones and celebrate the joyous occasion.By the time the weekend arrived, I was physically and mentally exhausted. However, I knew that I couldn't simply collapse and rest. On Saturday, I had volunteered to help with a community clean-up event, where I spent several hours picking up litter, planting trees, and beautifying a local park. It was hard work, but it was also deeply rewarding, and I felt a sense of accomplishment in contributing to the betterment of my neighborhood. Finally, on Sunday, I had a chance to catch my breath. I spent the day relaxing at home, catching up on some reading, and reflecting on the whirlwind of the past week. As I looked back, I was struck by the sheer volume of activities and responsibilities I had taken on, but Ialso felt a sense of pride and satisfaction in the way I had handled each one.In the end, this busy week was a testament to my resilience, my adaptability, and my ability to thrive under pressure. It was a reminder that even in the face of overwhelming demands, it is possible to stay focused, organized, and driven. And while the week may have been physically and emotionally draining, it also left me with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the opportunities and challenges that life presents.。

英语作文 a weekA WeekIt was a Monday morning, and the sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the week ahead. As I sipped my morning coffee, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for the days to come. The first day of the week is always a bit of a whirlwind, with meetings and deadlines to meet. But I found that by staying organized and focused, I was able to get through the day with relative ease. I made a to-do list and prioritized the tasks that needed to be completed, and I even managed to squeeze in a quick lunch break to recharge.Tuesday rolled around, and I found myself feeling a bit more settled into the routine of the week. I had a few important projects that I needed to work on, and I was determined to make some significant progress. I put my head down and got to work, and by the end of the day, I had accomplished more than I had expected.Wednesday is often referred to as the "hump day" of the week, and this one was no exception. I found myself feeling a bit sluggish andunmotivated, but I knew that I needed to push through. I had a big presentation to give to my team, and I spent the day preparing and rehearsing. When the time came, I delivered the presentation with confidence and ease, and my colleagues were impressed with the work I had done.Friday is always a cause for celebration, and this week was no exception. I wrapped up my work for the day and headed out to meet some friends for happy hour. We laughed and talked about our weeks, and I felt a sense of relief and accomplishment wash over me.The weekend was a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of the workweek. I spent Saturday doing some errands and catching up on chores around the house, and on Sunday, I took some time to relax and unwind. I read a book, went for a long walk, and even cooked a delicious meal for myself. As I reflected on the week that had just passed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction. I had accomplished a lot, both professionally and personally, and I was grateful for the opportunityto do so. I knew that the week ahead would bring its own set of challenges, but I felt ready to tackle them head-on.In conclusion, a week is a microcosm of the ebb and flow of life. It has its highs and lows, its moments of stress and moments of joy. But by staying organized, focused, and resilient, we can navigate the ups and downs and emerge stronger and more fulfilled. It's getting hot in here! At least, that's what global warming advocates would have us believe. As for me, I completely agree, and I'm pretty sure we can mostly blame this phenomenon on increased wealth throughout the world, and on the world itself.
Cause & Effect - Review

In this last paragraph, the author is clear to show the transition that resulted from an important event in his personal life. We can see before, during, and after. In academic writing, we can use the same type of format to discuss an important event or circumstance, then to discuss how it came to be, or what will happen as a result.
Format 2
Likewise, we can also use the format we saw in the review paragraph we saw earlier. In that case, the body is divided into three parts: In the first part, we discuss what things were like before the catalyst (before), then we state the catalyst (cause), and we follow up by discussing the outcome of the situation (effect). The following essay is a good example:
Notice!

The two paragraphs of the body can be seen in this way:
– –
1. Man made causes (cause & effect) 2. Natural causes (cause & effect)

This progression clearly shows us how somethe outcome of our topic. We understand what will happen, and also why it will happen.
Cause & Effect
Cause & Effect – Review from last term (1 paragraph)
One night my house burned down. Although I lost many things in the fire, the experience helped me to grow up. I went from being a boy to being a man after my trial by fire. Before the fire, I was selfish. I always complained to my mother about how small my room was or how few clothes I had. I never thought about her troubles, just my own. Then, the fire came and destroyed everything we owned. It all happened so fast I didn’t have time to think about it. We were suddenly poor and had to borrow everything, even food. At first, I had a hard time, but slowly I began to realize that I didn’t really need all my old things. I just needed my family. After all, you can get new clothes anytime, but a family can never be replaced. It is true that the fire took many good things from me, but it gave me something too. It taught me to appreciate people more than things.
Cause & Effect – Roots and Results

Cause & Effect

The purpose of cause and effect essays can be one of two things.

First, we can analyse the root of an issue (cause) to try and see what will happen (effect) Or, we can look at a result (effect) to try and find what the reasons for it are (cause)
In the past, people led simple lives. They used little or no electricity, because they didn’t own any technology that required it. They rode horses or took bikes to travel. Buses and cars were unheard of. People also reused everything they could. New items were expensive, and often hard to come by. There was no Ren Ren Le or Wal-Mart where one could buy anything cheaply.
Example 2
It's getting hot in here! At least, that's what global warming advocates would have us believe. As for me, I completely agree, and I'm pretty sure we can mostly blame this phenomenon on increased wealth throughout the world, and on the world itself.
Of course, people aren't entirely to blame. Many scientists believe that a large part of global warming is due to cyclical global patterns. That means that even if people entirely stopped consuming and polluting, the earth would keep getting hotter. This is expected to continue for the next several hundred, if not thousand, years, so we'd might as well get used to it and prepare ourselves for even worse. All is not lost. We should do our part to pollute less and thus slow global warming as much as we can. In the end though, given it's inevitability, the best thing we can do is relax and prepare. It's getting hot in here, but we'd better stay cool.
As the world's people get richer, the earth keeps getting warmer. Essentially, it's because increased wealth means increased consumption. Increased consumption means increased production, and both of those factors mean increased pollution. Today, people often buy things, use them once, then throw them away. Moreover, everyone wants big, polluting items such as cars. These desires caused by wealth lead to global warming.
