Ted: And where did you learn to Rollerblade?Ana: Here in the park. This is only my second time.Ted: Well, it’s my first time. Can you give me some lessons?Ana: Sure. Just follow me.Ted: By the way, my name is Ted.Ana: And I’m Ana. Nice to meet you.(2)Jeff: Hey! Are these pictures of you when you were a kid?Kim: Yeah. That’s me in front of my uncle’s beach house. When I was a kid, we used to spend two weeks there every summer.Jeff: Wow, I bet that was fun!Kim: Yeah. We always had a great time. Every day we used to get up early and walk along the beach. But my parents threw them out!Unit 2 Caught in the rush(1)Lynn: Why is there never a bus when you want one?Sam: Good question. There aren’t enough buses on this route.Lynn: Sometimes I feel like writing a letter to the paper.Sam: Good idea. You should say that we need more subway lines, too.Lynn: Yeah. There should be more public transportation in general.Sam: And fewer cars! There’s too much traffic.Lynn: Say, is that our bus coming?Sam: Yes, it is. But look. It’s full!Lynn: Oh, no! Let’s go and get a cup of coffee. We can talk about this letter I’m going to write.(2)Erica: Excuse me. Could you tell me where the bank is?Man: There’s one upstairs, across from the duty-free shop.Erica: Oh, thanks. Do you know what time it opens?Man: It should be open now. And just one more thing. Do you know where the nearest restroom is? Man: Right behind you, ma’am. See that sign?Erica: Oh. Thanks a lot.Unit 3 Time for a change!(1)Mr. Dean: What do you think?Mrs. Dean: Well, it has just as many bedrooms as the last apartment. And it was in a dangerous neighborhood.Mr. Dean: Let’s see if the real estate agent has something else to show us.(2)Brian: So where are you working now, Terry?Terry: Oh, I’m still at the bank. I don’t like it, though.Brian: That’s too bad. Why not?Terry: Well, it’s boring, and it doesn’t pay very well.Brian: I know what you mean. I don’t like my job either. How do you make it?Jim: Well, first, you take two slices of bread and spread peanut butter on them. Then cut a banana into small pieces and put them on one of the slices of bread. Finally, pour some honey over the bananas and put the other slice of bread on top. Yum!Kate: Yuck! It sounds awful!Unit 5 Going places(1)Julia: I’m so excited! We have two weeks off! I live next door.Stephanie: Oh, hi. I’m Stephanie Lee.George: So, you just moved in? Do you need anything?Stephanie: Not right now. But thanks,George: Well, let me know if you do. Um, by the way, would you mind turning your stereo down? The walls are really thin, so the sound goes right through to my apartment.Stephanie: Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t realize that. I’ll make sure to keep the volume down. Oh, by the way, is there a good Italian restaurant in the neighborhood?George: Yeah. There’s a great one a couple of blocks from here. Try their lasagna. It’s delicious!Unit 7 What’s this for?(1)Daniel: Hey! Nice computer! What’s this for?Andrea: That’s a modem. I really have to stop smoking.Luis: So why don’t you quit?Jody: Well, if I quit, I might gain weight!Luis: A lot of people do, but…Jody: And if I gain weight, I won’t be able to fit into any of my clothes!Luis: Well, you can always go on a diet.Jody: Oh, no. I’m terrible at losing weight on diets. So if my clothes don’t fit, I’ll have to buy new ones. I’ll have to get a part-time job, and…Luis: Listen, it is hard to quit, but it’s not that hard. I think I’ll just go straight.Unit 15 What would you do?(1)Lou: Look at this. Some guy found $750,000! He returned it and the owner thanked him with a phone call.Kate: You’re kidding! I think there should be less pollution in the city.""There should be fewer cars, but I think that the biggest problem is parking. There just isn't enough parking."The pictures vividly reveal that heavy traffic is becoming increasingly serious all over the world. We can deduce(推断)from the pictures that the photographer is trying to attract our attention to the issue of heavy traffic. First of all, every year men and women crowed into cities in search of employment, a decent (得体的)living, and the excitement and stimulation of urban life. As people in mounting(增加的)numbers flood into cities, city services and facilities have been strained(拉紧)to a breaking point. In additon, since in a city with booming industry, land is precious and cannot be extravagantly(无度地)used by traffic, traffice flows constantly rise to fill whatever scale of roads and highways are provided for them.It is imperative(必要的)for us to improve this situation. For one thing, the number of private cars should be limited while more bus routes should be opened up because buses can accommodate more passengers. For another, more streets and roads should be constructed. Since neither of the suggestions can effectively solve the problem, there is an increasing awareness that the two solutions may be combined with other possible solutions to produce the best effect. Some words about transportation services-by train (passenger)transport during the Spring Festival period 春运local train(慢车)、direct train(直快)special express(特快)hard seat(硬坐)soft seat(软坐),semi cushioned berth(硬卧)还是cushioned berth(软卧)first class 软卧硬卧second class 硬坐third classSingle单程票& Return买往返票standing-room ticket站票tickets-booking agency/office订票点volume of passenger transport 客运量Transportation services: by planeto go economy 坐经济舱an economy class air ticket经济舱机票a first-class ticket(头等舱票)headset=headphone=earphone-----耳机; call-button----叫人纽;steward/stewardess 男/女空中服务员Is this bag OK as hand luggage? Can I take this through security? Can I have a window seat, please? Can I have an aisle seat, please?Which gate do I need to board from? How long is my transfer time?A:I feel like throwing up.(呕吐)B:Use this waste bag in case you want to throw up.Because of the altitude pressure,my ears are humming terribly.(耳鸣)Track of my tears(《辛酸的旅程》)Migrant workers, employees working outside their hometowns and students are the main body of passengers during Spring Festival. It’s probably October 31st, or Halloween.Halloween is a day when people go out wearing costumes and colorful makeup. Some people think that Halloween started in Ireland during the 400s. October 31st was the end of summer, and people believed that everyone who died during the year came back on that day. To scare away the dead, people put on costumes and went out into the streets to make noise.Different cultures have different ways of celebrating Halloween. Like just a few years ago, they made a cell phone that also surfs the Inter net. Soon, we might not even need laptops or MP3 players- everythingwill be in one piece of equipment, you’ll have fewer things to carry. GRANDFATHER: Exactly! Using Nice Talking with You 1, my students get their first training in English fluency practice. The next step is to encourage them to extend their discourse, and there are of course many ways to do that. Nice Talking with You 2 achieves this by focusing on two key goals, both within the reach of students who have completed basic fluency training: • Learning to say more • Learning to do more in a conversation than just talk about a topic To push students toward these goals, students need practice extending the length of their turns and performing simple interpersonal or transactional functions. Let’s look at how this text does this.

Unit 1 A time to remember2. Conversation: Where did you learn the skate?p2A: Oh, I am really sorry. Are you OK?I am fine, but I am not very good at this.Neither am I.Say, are you from south America?Yes, I am originally.I was born in Argentina.Did you grow up there?Yes, I did. But my family moved here ten years ago when I was in junior high school. And where did you learn to skate? Here in the park. This is only my third time.Well, it’s my first time. Can you give me some lessons?Sure, just follow me.By the way, my name is Ted.And I am Anna.Nice to meet you.B: Hey, that was fun, thanks for the lesson. No problem.So. Tell me a little about yourself. What do you do?I work in a travel agency.Really, what do you do there?I am in charge of their computers. So, you are a computer specialist.Well, sort of. Yeah, I guess so.That’s great. Then maybe you can give me some help with a computer course I am taking.Oh, sure….. But only if you promise to give me some more skating lessons. It’s a deal.

(A man and a woman are learning to Rollerblade in the park):(2)Ted: Where did you learn to Rollerblade?Anna: Here in the park. This is only my second time.Ted: Well, it’s my first time. Can you give me some lessons?Anna: Sure. Just follow me.(After a while)Ted: Hey, that was fun. Thanks for the lesson!

3. grammar: p3Where were you born?I was born in Argentina. Were you born in Buenos Aires?Yes, I was.No, I wasn’t.I was born in Cordoba. When did you move to Los Angeles?I moved here ten years ago. I didn’t speak English.Did you take English classes in Argentina?Yes, I did. I took classes for a year. No, I didn’t. My aunt taught me at home.4. listening p3 life as an immigrantWhere are from originally, Yu Hong?I am from china. From near shanghai. And when did you move here?I came here after I graduated from college. That was in 1992.And what do you do now?I am a transportation engineer.I see. So you are an immigrant to the United States.Yes, that’s right. What are some of the difficulties of being an immigrant in the U.S.?Oh, that’s not an easy question to answer. There are so many things really.I gues s one of the biggest difficulty is that I don’t have any relatives here.I mean I have a lot of friends. But that’s not the same thing. In china, on holidays or the weekend, we visit relatives. It isn’t the same here. And what do you miss the most from home?Oh, that’s easy. My mom’s soup. She makes great soup. I really miss my mother’s cooking.AjayWhere are you from, Ajay?I am from India. And when did you move to the U.S.?It was in 1991.Are you studying in here at the moment? Not now. I came here as a student and graduated two years ago.I am working as a computer technicianUh-huh. And what was it like when you first came here? Was it difficult?Yeah, It was at times. The main difficulty I had was with educational system. Things are very different here. Teaching methods. Everything is very different from what I was used to in India. And what do you miss the most from India? To tell you the truth. After you’re here for a while, You don’t miss anything very much. But I guess the weather and my family are the things I miss. And the quality of life. The quality of life is much nicer back home, frankly speaking.7. Perspectives How have you changed? P5Listen to these statements about changes. Check those that are true about you.1. When I was a kid, I used to be very messy, but now I am very neat.2. I used to have a lot of hobbies, but now I don’t have any free time.3. I didn’t use to collect anything, but now I do.4. I used to be really into fashion, but these days, I am not interested it anymore.5. I never used to play sports, but now I like to keep fit.6. I never used to worry about money, but now I do.7. I didn’t use to follow politics, but now I read the newspaper everyday.8. When I was younger, I used to care a lot about my appearance. Now, I am too busy to care howI look.Unit24. listening p9Quite a number of things have been done to help solve traffic problems in Singapore. For example, motorists must buy a special pass if they want to drive into the downtown business district. They can go into the business district only if they have the pass displayed on their windshield(挡风玻璃).Another thing Singapore has done is to make it more difficult to buy cars. People have to apply for a certificate if they want to buy a car. And the number of certificates is limited. Not everyone can get one. There is also a high tax on cars, so it costs three or four times as much to buy a car in Singapore as it does in, say, the United State or Canada. The other thing Singapore has done is to build an excellent public transportation system. Their subway system is one of the best in the world. And there is also a very good taxi and bus system.8. B Excuse me. It’s me again. I’m sorry. I need some more information- if you don’t mind. Not at allThanks. Do you know how much a taxi to the city cost?Well, it depends on the traffic, of course. But it usually costs about $40.Forty dollars? I guess I’ll take the bus. That’s means I have almost an hour till the next one. Where can I find an inexpensive restaurant in the airport? Maybe a fast-food place?Go upstairs and turn right. You’ll see a snack bar on your left. Thanks very much. Have a nice day. You, too.Units1-21.listeninginterviewer: Thanks for taking the time to speak with me, Jeri.Jeri: Oh,it's my pleasureYou have a beautiful accent. Where did you grow up?I grew up in England, in a city called Brighton. How do you spell that?B-R-I-G-H-T-O-NJust like it sounds.Yes.What was that like?Brilliant. It’s a lovely city, right by the sea. My family still lives there. My family owns a restaurant, and my mother teaches school. What did you want to be when you grew up?Well, I never thought I’d be a model! I wanted to be a doctor or maybe a writer. Why not a model?Well, I always thought I looked funny.I can’t imagine it. Were you popular when you were growing up?Not really. I wasn’t unpopular, but I wasn’t in the popular crowd at school. I had a nice group of friends, thought. How did you like school?Oh, I loved school. I was a great student. My mother actually taught at my primary school. I always thought that was terrific. What about your free time as a child. Did you have a hobby?I used to paint. Actually, I still do. I have some paintings in a gallery right now. That’s impressive.Well, it’s a very small exhibit. But it’s something I really enjoy.Did you have a favorite game when you were growing up?That’s easy. My favorite game was chess. My grandfather taught me how to play. I used to visit his house in the country. We would have chess tournaments. It was wonderful. What about a favourite place?Hmm. My favorite place? I used to go to summer camp in Ireland. I loved that. I got to go horseback riding almost every day.Do you still go to Ireland? No. Not very often.Unit 3. p18 5. listening capsule hotelWelcome to the program your home is my home. Our guest tonight is Brad Philips from California. Brad, tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do?Well, at the moment, I’m working as an English teacher in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo is an exciting city, but it’s also very spread out. It can sometimes take hours to go from one part of the city to another. When I don’t feel like going all the way home, I sometimes stay in a capsule hotel.A capsule hotel? Can you explain what that is?Yeah. It’s a hotel with lots of small rooms. Actually, they’re not really rooms. They’re spaces that are two meters by one meter, and only a meter high. In other words, they’re very cramped! But the hotel is cheap and very convenient. And what’s inside each little room, or should I say, each space?Well, inside every capsule there’s a bed, a TV, a reading light, a radio, and an alarm clock. The hotel also has lockers, where you can keep your personal belongings. That’s great. And what kind of people stay in a capsule hotel?Well, probably people like me. People who miss the last train home or don’t want to go all the way home only to turn around and come back to work again. So, it gets pretty busy, as you can imagine. Finally, would you recommend a capsule hotel to other people?Sure! The rooms are small, but you get used to sleeping in a small space. I just wouldn’t recommend a capsule hotel to people who can’t relax in small, cramped spaces.7. snapshot Wish Wish is followed by past tense forms but refers to the present.Fact I don't like my job.Wish I wish(that)I could find a better job.I wish I worked somewhere else.Fact I live with my parents.Wish I wish I lived in my own apartment.I wish I didn't live with my parents.Fact Life is difficult.Wish I wish it were easier.I wish it weren't so difficult.Unit3 8 B P19.Yeah! Which snack are they talking about? Number the photos from 1 to 4.1.WOMAN:I love to eat this at the movies. Sometimes I even make it myself at home. It’s really easy. First, you put a little oil in a pan. Then heat the oil. When the oil’s hot----but not too hot ---- put in the kernels. Next, when you see they’re starting to pop, cover the pan. Shake the pan a little until the noise stops. After that, pour it into a bowl. Finally, Sprinkle a little salt over it and enjoy!2.MAN: Let me tell you how to make my favorite snack. It takes some time, but it’s worth it. First, youtake an avocado(鳄梨) and mash(捣碎) it.Next you chop half a tomato and half an onion and add them to the avocado. After that, you chop a little cilantro(香菜)---- you know, Chinese parsley(香芹菜)---- and put that in, too. Then, squeeze a lemon or a lime on top. Finally, sprinkle the mixture with a little salt, pepper, and of course, hot sauce. Mmm, it’s great with chips.3.3.WOMAN: A friend from New York City taught me how to make this. First, cut it in half. Then toast it. After that, let it cool a little and then spread cr eam cheese on it. It’s really good for breakfast, but you can eat it any time.4.MAN:Some people buy the frozen kind at the supermarket but I like to make my own. you need dough, olive oil, sauce, and cheese – lots of cheese. First, you roll out the dough into a circle and rub a little oil on it. Then put the dough into the oven and bake for a few minutes. Next, spoon a little sauce over the dough. After that, cover the sauce with grated cheese. Then put it back into the oven and bake for anot her ten minutes or until the cheese melts. Finally, cut it into slices.
