My name is Timmy and I'm a 4th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. I've got some really exciting news to share with all of you! Our school is hosting its very first super huge Writing Contest and I'm helping to spread the word.Mrs. Anderson, my amazing teacher, came up with the idea. She always says how much she loves reading the creative stories we write during class. One day she had a thought - why not have a big writing competition for the whole school? She says it will be a fun way to get everybody's imaginations going and celebrate all the talented young writers we have.So she brought the idea to our principal, Mr. Roberts, and he loved it! He agreed it would be an awesome way to encourage kids to explore their interests and writing skills. They decided every student from kindergarten all the way up to 5th grade could enter. How cool is that? Here are all the details about the contest that I know so far:What We're Looking ForYou can submit any kind of writing you want - a short story, a poem, a comic book script, instructions for an amazing invention you thought up...honestly, the options are endless! Theonly rule is it has to be your 100% original writing. No copying stuff from books or websites.Mrs. Anderson says the judges (which will be some teachers and maybe some special guests!) will be looking for creative ideas, good descriptions that paint a picture in your mind, decent spelling and grammar for your grade level, and an overall entertaining piece that keeps them wanting to read more.Age CategoriesTo make sure it's a fair competition, there will be different age categories for entries:Kindergarten & 1st Grade2nd & 3rd Grade4th & 5th GradeThat means you'll only be judged against other kids around your age. The judges will pick a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner for each age group. I think that's a really smart way to do it.Word CountsTo keep things fair and give everyone enough time and space for their writing, there are word count limits:K & 1st Grade: 100-400 words2nd & 3rd Grade: 300-800 words4th & 5th Grade: 500-1000 wordsThose are just the minimum and maximums though. You can write any length in between those ranges.DeadlinesEntries need to be submitted by Friday, May 12th at the absolute latest. That gives everyone a few weeks to work on their masterpieces! You can turn in your entry to your homeroom teacher or the big orange submission box that will be set up in the library starting next week.Prizes! Now for the really exciting part - the prizes! Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Roberts were able to get some amazing donations from local businesses. The 1st place winners in each age group will receive:A 50 gift card to Barnes & NobleA trophyTheir work published in a school writing anthologyThe 2nd place winners get:A 25 gift card to Barnes & NobleA medalAnd the 3rd place winners receive:A 10 gift card to Barnes & NobleA certificateJust think how awesome it would be to get your writing published in a real book that everyone can read! I'm definitely going to enter for a chance at that.Writing TipsIf you've never entered a writing contest before, don't worry - I've got some tips that will hopefully help:Brainstorm, brainstorm, brainstorm! Mrs. Anderson is always telling us to write down as many ideas as possible first before picking one to go with. The more you brainstorm, the better your final story or poem will be.Ask people what kinds of stories, comics, etc. they find interesting. That can give you great ideas for what to write about.Try doing a quick first draft without stopping, then go back and polish it up. Don't worry about perfection on the first try.Read your draft out loud - it helps you catch mistakes and awkward phrasing more easily.Don't freak out about the word counts. Just write what feels right for your idea and check the lengths after.Have fun with it! This isn't a test or anything. The judges just want to see your creativity shine.Okay, I've covered all the important details that I know about so far. As soon as I learn anything else, like who the special guest judges might be, I'll be sure to spread the word.I really hope tons of kids enter this amazing writing contest. We've got so many talented writers at our school, and I can't wait to read all the cool stories, comics, poems, and whatever else everyone comes up with. This is your chance to let your skills and imagination loose! If you have any other questions, just ask your teacher. Now get those pencils and pens ready and start brainstorming ideas. The judges and I can't wait to be wowed by your words!篇5Call for Submissions!By Claude the AI AssistantHi everybody! My name is Claude and I'm a 3rd grader at Oakdale Elementary School. I'm really excited to tell you about something super cool that's happening at our school. Our amazing principal, Mrs. Patterson, had a brilliant idea. She wants our school to start its very own student writers' magazine! Isn't that awesome? A real magazine filled with stories, poems, comics, and all kinds of creative writing by kids just like you and me.Mrs. Patterson says the magazine will be called "Young Voices" and will come out three times per school year - once in the fall, winter, and spring. Every issue will have different sections for fiction stories, non-fiction articles, poetry, book reviews, drawings, and more. The very best student work from all grade levels will get published!I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. Maybe you have a funny short story about your silly dog or your wacky little brother. Perhaps you're working on an epic fantasy novel about dragons and wizards. Or you might be a whiz at writing creepy ghost stories that make your friends jump out of their skin! Nomatter what kind of writing you enjoy, this is your chance to share it.Not only that, but our art teacher Mr. Katsaros said he'll pick some of the coolest illustrations and drawings to go along with the stories and poems too. So all you doodlers and painters out there better get those pencils and brushes ready! Here are some tips straight from Mrs. Patterson on what kinds of submissions they're looking for:Fiction StoriesThese can be any kind of made-up story you dream up - fantasy, humor, mystery, adventure, sci-fi, you name it! Just make sure your story has good spelling, grammar, characters, a clear beginning/middle/end, and sense of creativity. Stories should be no more than 1000 words.Non-Fiction ArticlesDo you have a big interest or hobby you know a lot about? Write an informative article teaching others all about it! You could cover topics like your favorite sport, an amazing animal, a historical event, video games, science experiments, etc. Make it factual and educational but still fun to read. Non-fiction pieces should be 500 words or less.PoetryPoets, this is your time to shine! Submit your most moving, metaphor-filled, rhyme-tastic poem for consideration. It can be on any subject and in any style you like - just make sure to grab readers' attention and paint pictures with your beautiful words. Poems should be no longer than 25 lines.Book ReviewsFor all you bookworms out there, write a review of your favorite book (or least favorite, for that matter!). Summarize what it's about, describe the main characters, and give your honest opinion on whether it's a must-read or not. Make me want to pick up that book! Reviews should be 250 words max.Comics/CartoonsTalented comic artists and cartoonists, send in your very best single-panel cartoons or short multi-panel comics. Make sure the humor and illustrations are original and kid-appropriate!Hand-drawn entries are preferred over computer art.Drawings/ArtworkWhile Mr. Katsaros will choose some art to go along with the writing, you can also submit standalone drawings andillustrations on any subject. Pencil, colored pencil, paint, chalk, charcoal, pastel - whatever medium you like working with is fine. Those are the main categories, but Mrs. Patterson said they're open to other cool ideas too. Maybe you can write and illustrate your own mini graphic novel, attempt an epic poem about cafeteria food, or create mind-bending concrete poetry using funky fonts and shapes. Use your imagination!Once your masterpiece is complete, make sure to proofread it a few times to catch any silly mistakes. Then print it out or write it up neatly to turn in to your teacher by the deadline of May 20th. Unfortunately, they can't accept every single piece due to space, but don't be discouraged if yours doesn't make it in this time. You'll have two more chances later in the year!I truly believe every single one of you has a story worth telling and a unique voice that deserves to be heard. That's why I'm so glad Mrs. Patterson came up with this idea - to celebrate our creativity and imaginations. So start brainstorming today! Who knows, you might just be the next Dr. Seuss or J.K. Rowling.I'll be submitting a few entries myself, like my short story "The Alien Chicken Invasion" and maybe some alien-themed drawings too. I've been working super hard on them and I hopeyou'll all get to read and see them in the first issue of "Young Voices." Wish me luck!I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. This is going to be the coolest magazine ever! Thanks for reading, and happy writing and doodling!Your friend,Claude篇6Call for Writers! Submit Your Stories to the Elementary Authors ShowcaseHey kids!
